Planned Parenthood decides to stop taking reimbursements for tissue donation.

Courtesy of the Wall Street Journal:

Planned Parenthood Federation of America said it is immediately stopping taking reimbursements for procuring fetal tissue for medical research, an attempt to tamp down controversy that has led to Republican investigations in Congress and efforts to end federal funding.

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards said in a letter Tuesday to the National Institutes of Health that the organization’s affiliates will no longer accept any reimbursements for costs associated with procuring tissue from abortions. Fetal tissue has been provided by affiliates in California and Washington state, and the Washington clinics haven’t been taking any money for it, she said. The Oregon affiliate has been providing placental tissue for reimbursement. Planned Parenthood didn’t disclose the amount it will forgo with its new policy.

“The real goal of these extremists has nothing to do with our fetal tissue donation compliance process but is instead to ban abortion in the U.S. and block women from getting any health care from Planned Parenthood,” Ms. Richards wrote. “Today, we’re taking their smokescreen away.”

Gee how will the Republicans justify shutting down the government in order to defund Planned Parenthood now?

And let's face it this was such a small part of what Planned Parenthood did, and only in so few states, that stopping it will have virtually no impact on them whatsoever.

I think the word here is "Checkmate."

I think this decision was for the best. And yes, Checkmate to the Republicans. What the Republicans don't want to tell us is that are going after birth control. They want the government to stop woman from getting birth control.

I have not commented on anything you have posted on Bristol recently because quite frankly, she is not worth my time. But her recent screed on teenagers getting birth control in Washington State proves my point. Forget about abortion, these R's want to take away all the options a woman legally has to ensure she does not have children until she chooses.

Talk about getting government in our faces. In the Republican world, it's okay for the government to get involved. Be it birth control, abortion, gay marriage, etc..., the R's want to use government to make it all illegal as it was when I was growing up in the 1960's.

You're forgetting that in her imagination Bristol is in a position to judge everyone else's behavior and looks.

PP needs to hire Bristol as a spokesperson ....

"If I had used Planned Parenthood's services, I would not be a single mother of two. PP should continue to be funded"

Bristol is a whore for money and would do this for PP.

    Outstanding position to take!

Now, the asshole Republicans should leave Planned Parenthood alone and go away with their red faces between their legs!

Sorry, Gryphen, that ain't gonna happen. These idiots want PP GONE. They want any and all personal control of a woman's person BY a woman to be GONE. They will stop at NOTHING to accomplish that.

We've already seen they will deliberately lie and fabricate "evidence" to try to stop what PP does - and continue to use that false evidence even when it HAS been proven false. What in Hell makes ANYONE think they will stop just because ONE aspect of their attack has been thwarted?

These are fanatics we are dealing with! They WILL find another way to try to attack PP and accomplish their goal of total control over a female's body and the personal rights that go along with that!

I think we see the next GOP "move" already. They're going after Margaret Sanger's statue now. Petty, petty, petty! ;-)

Republicans do not care one iota about abortion or birth control. This is just how they fire up the mokes to vote for them. That and fear of the brown people. All of them are morally bankrupt scumbags.

Is there a PP in Alaska? If so, I certainly hope some Alaskan millenial girls avail themselves of its services. There seems to nr an epidemic of young, unmarried, pregnant girls who forego college to marry, procreate and remain ignorant. Unless they're lesbian, then they're just married and ignorant.

  12. If the transportation and processing costs were in the neighborhood of $100 per sample sent, I'm sure they can absorb these costs internally or even cover them with donations. There have been plenty of donations to Planned Parenthood in retaliation for the Right Wing Witch Hunt

Good on Richards for taking away their stool and exposing their real intentions.

Won't stop them. Just make them look more foolish.

It's a shame that PP has been intimidated into changing their policies. It's a partial win for the Talibangelicals and the morally bankrupt repugs in congress.

However, if that's what it takes, then so be it. What part of PP's program will they attack next?
