Second House Republican admits that Benghazi investigation is all about Hillary.

Courtesy of Think Progress:

A second House Republican has now conceded that the overarching purpose of the House Select Committee on Benghazi has been to attack former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In September, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) argued that one of House Republicans’ successes has been using the Benghazi Committee to drive down Clinton’s poll numbers. Though McCarthy tried to walk back his controversial comments, Rep. Richard Hanna (R-NY) argued on Wednesday that the Majority Leader had it right to begin with.

“Sometimes the biggest sin you can commit in D.C. is to tell the truth,” Hanna said in an interview on Keeler in the Morning, a radio show in upstate New York. The third-term congressman paused for a moment, perhaps recognizing the importance of what he was about to say, before going on to agree with McCarthy’s original statement.

“This may not be politically correct, but I think that there was a big part of this investigation that was designed to go after people and an individual, Hillary Clinton,” Hanna said.

He explained further why he believes the Benghazi Committee’s purpose has been in part to attack Clinton. “After what Kevin McCarthy said, it’s difficult to accept at least a part of it was not,” Hanna said. “I think that’s the way Washington works. But you’d like to expect more from a committee that’s spent millions of dollars and tons of time.”

Okay so I have changed my point of view slightly.

In the past as you know I have suggested that the Democrats remove themselves from this House Select Committee and that Hillary refuse to testify now that everybody knows for certain that it is nothing but a witch hunt.

But now I think perhaps Hillary SHOULD show up, as it demonstrates she has nothing to hide, and also because the committee members will literally be terrified to push too hard for fear of proving what we already know.

In the Democratic debate Hillary sounded almost anxious to start her testimony before the Benghazi Committee and I can understand why.

Currently she really holds all of the cards, and can use ANYTHING the Republicans do or say that seems partisan or unnecessarily aggressive to help her raise money for her campaign.

As a matter of fact at this point, if I were a Republican member of Congress, I would be telling everybody who would listen that it is time to abandon this investigation, count their losses, and move on to something else.

Of course considering the fact that these are the House Republicans that something else would probably be investigating Planned Parenthood some more.

    ALSO TOO

    off topic but

More revelations about Republican hero Ayn Rand at Salon.

"Libertarian superstar Ayn Rand defended Native American genocide: “Racism didn’t exist in this country until the liberals brought it up”
EXCLUSIVE: New transcript of Rand at West Point in '74 enthusiastically defends extermination of Native Americans "

    http://www.salon.com/2015/10/14/libertarian_superstar_ayn_rand_defended_genocide_of_savage_native_americans/

"Massive applause followed Rand’s comments, which clearly strongly resonated with the graduating class of the U.S. military. Rand’s most extreme and opprobrious remarks, nevertheless, were saved for her subsequent discussion of Native Americans.
“Savages” who deserved to be conquered

In a logical sleight of hand that would even confound and bewilder even Lewis Carroll, Ayn Rand proclaimed in the 1974 Q&A that it was in fact indigenous Americans who were the racists, not the white settlers who were ethnically cleansing them. The laissez-faire leader declared that Native Americans did not “have any right to live in a country merely because they were born here and acted and lived like savages.”

“Americans didn’t conquer” this land, Rand asserted, and “you are a racist if you object to that.” Since “the Indians did not have any property rights — they didn’t have the concept of property,” she said, “they didn’t have any rights to the land.”

If “a country does not protect rights,” Rand asked — referring specifically to property rights — “why should you respect the rights they do not have?” She took the thought to its logical conclusion, contending that anyone “has the right to invade it, because rights are not recognized in this country.”

Rand then blamed Native Americans for breaking the agreements they made with the Euro-American colonialists. The historical reality, though, was exactly the contrary: white settlers constantly broke the treaties they made with the indigenous, and regularly attacked them."

No0 wonder she is one of the founding fathers of the modern Republican just make shit up party.

  5. From day one the Republicans saw this as nothing more than an opportunity to take down both President Obama and Hillary Clinton. Four Americans died from this horrible tragedy and anyone politicizing their deaths to further an obvious agenda should be ashamed of themselves. Their fake outrage really pisses me off.

      Agree with you 100%.

I'm still waiting for a REAL 9 1 1 investigation. You know, when thousands of human beings were incinerated to scare the rest of us into agreeing to an illegal war. (cough{{{bushcheneyrummy}}})

They should be ashamed (but won't be) but should really just be sued right up their tight smug asses. Sued and required to reimburse the gov't for the wasted $$.

"the committee members will literally be terrified to push too hard for fear of proving what we already know."

Wow dude, you do NOT comprehend how conservative minds operate. If she shows up, they will pull out all the stops to try and make her look as bad as possible in any way they can concoct, legitimate or purely assholish. A typically desperate double-down in an attempt to show why what they're doing is "justified" and how "still spined" they are standing up against "political correctness" and the liberal media.

And the Fox bobbleheads will be cheering them on the whole way.

That's the problem with Liberals, you give people too much benefit of the doubt. ;)

Oh, they have already said they are going to have a select committee to investigate Planned Parenthood so that they can defund it and if not then they are going to shut it all down.

Listen to Hanna's remarks. He brings up Benghazi near the 9:40 mark.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/richard-hanna-benghazi-committee-hillary-clinton

Hillary Clinton's campaign quickly denounced the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Wednesday after a second House Republican, Rep. Richard Hanna (R-NY), admitted that the committee was established in part to go after Clinton.

"House Republicans aren't even shy anymore about admitting that the Benghazi Committee is a partisan farce. After failing to produce any new information on the tragic 2012 attacks at Benghazi despite a 17-month investigation, John Boehner has reportedly urged the committee to shift its focus to Hillary Clinton's emails in an ongoing effort to try to hurt her politically," Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon said in a Wednesday night statement. "Hillary Clinton will still attend next week's hearing, but at this point, Trey Gowdy's inquiry has zero credibility left."

Rep. Hanna is not a member of the Freedom Caucus. By modern standards in the House, he is a moderate Republican. Earlier in the same interview, Hanna talked about the need to work with Democrats to get things done.

The Clinton campaign was right. House Republicans aren’t even trying to hide it anymore. The Benghazi Select Committee is a total sham. Trey Gowdu and his committe have absolutely no credibility. Two House Republicans and a former investigator for the committee have now confirmed that the purpose of the committee is to get Hillary Clinton.

House Republicans are out of options. Their bogus committee isn’t fooling anybody. It’s time to shut it down.

O/T Gryphen, but more on California related to your previous post:

California Democrats Show Republicans What Good Government Looks Like

There is one example of a state that leads the nation in economic growth, job creation, and the ability to govern for all the people. This week, in a seriously stunning editorial by a very conservative newspaper they readily admit and praise California with its Democratic super-majority and governor as the model the rest of the nation and Republicans in Congress should follow.

    http://www.politicususa.com/2015/10/15/californias-democratic-majority-shows-national-republicans-govern-people.html

California is where U.S. policy isn’t paralyzed

...With every stroke of the pen, Brown and the Legislature have telegraphed a message to Congress: If you can’t work together, the rest of us will act without you. Lawmakers here aren’t without problems. Too many are far too swayed by campaign money. But as the legislative year closes, it’s worth noting that not everyone in this country has stopped believing that big ideas can happen and thoughtful governance can take place.

O/T but OMG, he really said this!

Huckabee Suggests Poor People Should Be Sold Into Slavery For Stealing

Host Jan Mickelson began by bemoaning that the “criminal justice system has been taken over by progressives.” In order to fight back, he argued, conservatives should look to the biblical Book of Exodus. “It says, if a person steals, they have to pay it back two-fold, four-fold,” Mickelson explained. “If they don’t have anything, we’re supposed to take them down and sell them.”

Mickelson went on to argue why jails, which he claimed are a “pagan invention,” are inferior to slavery: “We indenture them and they have to spend their time not sitting on their stump in a jail cell, they’re supposed to be working off the debt.”

“Wouldn’t that be a better choice?” the host asked.

“Well, it really would be,” Huckabee replied without missing a beat. “Sometimes the best way to deal with a nonviolent criminal behavior is what you just suggested.”

    Listen to it:

    Fuck Benghazi

At this point, the Rude Pundit thinks he's speaking for the vast majority of Americans when he says, "Who the fuck cares anymore about whatever the fuck happened in Benghazi?" For three fuckin' years, we've been subjected to the attempt by Republicans to fuck Benghazi into some meaningful analogy for the failures of Hillary Clinton and President Obama. Yet no matter how many times they stick their dicks into Benghazi, no matter how many times they fuck Benghazi in the mouth, in the ass, in the ears, in the eyes, it remains what it is: an unfortunate fuck-up in an unfortunate, fucked-up situation. At this point, inbred-eyed geek Trey Gowdy is just cutting new holes in Benghazi to fuck, saying that, yes, fuck, this time, this time, with the emails, the motherfucking emails, we'll finally get something, some little moan from Benghazi that'll show everyone we were right.

No, you won't. What Republicans have actually done is taken a tragedy and politicized it to such a ludicrous extent that any semblance of tragedy has been erased from it. Now it's just that abstract event where Hillary Clinton used a secret vagina gun to murder Ambassador Chris Stevens while allowing ululating hordes of Allah-worshippers to overrun the American compound before sending out Susan Rice to lie before she came back to the White House to eat her out while Barack Obama jacked off into a dead security agent's skull.

Anyone other than family members and friends who gets choked up or outraged about Benghazi anymore ought to be treated like just-released child molesters: shunned, labeled, driven away from places where decent people want to gather.
