Ultimately asking how “stupid” Iowans and Americans are to “believe this crap,” Trump was more showman than seasoned politician as he stepped out from behind the podium and acted out the stabbing while drawing delighted laughter from the crowd.
“He lunged that knife into the belly of his friend but, lo and behold, it hit the belt. And the knife broke” a mocking Trump explained. “Give me a break. Give me a break.”
“So I have a belt and somebody hits me with a knife, it’s going in because the belt moves this way. It moves this way, it moves that way,” Trump continued as he mugged for the crowd. “He hit the belt buckle. Anybody have a knife? Want to try it on me? Believe me, it ain’t gonna work. You’re not going to be successful, but he took the knife and went like this and he plunged it into the belt and, amazingly, the belt stayed totally flat and the knife broke.”
“How stupid are the people of Iowa? How stupid are the people of the country to believe this crap?” he deadpanned.
You know of all of the bullshit that Carson has spouted I have to admit that this has troubled me more than most.
And part of the reason is because it is so completely implausible.
Carson identified the knife used in the attack as a "camping" knife. That would seem to indicate a fairly sturdy blade.
Knives like that do NOT snap unless they are placed under great pressure.
IF Carson had actually struck a solid unyielding surface, the most likely outcome would be that the tip broke off the knife but that most of the blade remained intact.
Hitting the belt buckle, just as Trump points out, might have caused the knife to alter course a few inches but it still would have plunged into the other boy's stomach.
This story, like seemingly ALL of Carson's stories, is full of shit.
And yes, the people of Iowa, and the conservative voters behind those poll numbers, are stupid for believing it.
And now Trump has unnecessarily insulted the French, following the terrorist tragedy there.
ReplyDeleteTrump really screwed up with his tweet about France and gun control. I hope this is the downfall of his candidacy.
DeleteActually, he insulted them in January after the Charlie Hebdo attacks. The French official who answered that tweet didn't realize it. It was still stupid in January, I agree, but since he's running for President now, he tweeted something positive. Probably prayers, since he's so religious.
DeleteCraziest thing is that Carson wants us to believe that he really did tried to kill his friend, and he really did tried to hit his mother with a hammer or bat and he feels this makes him special. Because he was once violent and angry and now he speaks as if he is trying to put people to sleep.
ReplyDeleteI think Trump may have a point there. The thing is...does anyone really believe that he tried to kill his mother or stab his friend? And if they do believe that, why would you want him as president?? This clown show is baffling but fun. We shall see who rises as the cream to the top. No wonder they are all in...anything could happen!
DeleteTrump's tweet was from some months ago. He has posted his condolences and the ambassador has posted an apology to Trump. That incident is over.
ReplyDeleteTrump said what i've been thinking: hoe stupid are the people eho believe the knife story? I'm already tired of hearing that Trump shouldn't have insulted the voters. Those who believe Carson's crap should be called stupid. (I am not a trump supporter, i'm a dem),
It gags me to agree with Trump, but on this one, I'm in. Every time a new story is published, like the one about his criminal "best friend in the world", for instance, his supporters just scream MEDIA LIARS, and that's the end of it.
DeleteThis kind of back-and-forth is great. If Carson fizzles out, how many of his supporters are going to Trump? They will most likely stay home and not vote. If Trump fizzles out, how many of his fans are going to Carson? They will most likely also not vote.
ReplyDeleteCarson voters go to Cruz. All of 'em are crazy. What is wrong with this country??!!
DeleteGreat post Gryph, a little levity in a hard, trying day for our friends over there an our friends over here. I have a feeling several yanks may have been taken
ReplyDeleteSarah you better keep your big mouth shut. Take care of your own family you cheap filthy charlatan.
Carson is scary nuts. Scarier still that he's a frontrunner.
ReplyDeleteYeah, "you had you half-black man for eight years, we'll usher in a true one."
DeleteThere is absolutely NO comparison and scarier than hell! This is the best you have to offer, Repubs? Seriously?
Good LORD.
i'm really enjoying watching the reich wing splinter/implode ..
ReplyDeleteReich Wing. Excellent.
DeleteIf only they will implode before they cause WWIII.
“How stupid are the people of Iowa? How stupid are the people of the country to believe this crap?” he deadpanned.
ReplyDelete-------
May not like the Donald, but he's right.
Stupid enough to think Trump is honest &/or is concerned about them.
DeleteTonight we all cry for France...
DeleteWhat a horrific ordeal.
Yeah, wait until he starts in on that.
DeleteHe's already dissing Canada.
Curiosity led me to google who Carson turns to for foreign policy advice. He's getting his screwball ideas from Robert Dees, a man who is on a mission to christianize the world through our military. Read the Foreign Policy article. Carson is on a mission. Scares the hell outta me.
ReplyDeleteI hope Trump stays on Carson -- somebody needs to get him out of the running.
Believing Trump will solve all the country's and world's problems with 'good management' is as stupid as believing Carson's nonsense.
ReplyDeleteHadn't seen Trump for a while, he is apparently a whole lot more nuts nowadays. Good to see.
ReplyDeleteYou know, if I was a RWNJ I would actually be voting for Trump. He has a point and I can't wait for Ben Carson to be taken down iin flames. You know Trump has the best TV advisers in the world that are now seemingly more powerful than political advisers who are a dime a dozen. Think Trump-Comcast..you know it's coming! Oh the horror! Privatize everything and let it be the Corporate State Of America. All it boils down to is who is going to take the most taxpayers money. Republicans fight for corporate welfare while denying help to women and children (once they are born) and hate on us the people who work hard and pay our taxes so they can waste it to line their pockets. That's my take basically.
ReplyDeleteBut doncha see?
ReplyDeleteIt's a miracle that knife broke!
And the more Donald Trump and you prove that it is impossible for that knife to have broken...
the greater the miracle it is that the knife broke!
Praise Jesus the Most Holy and Most High in His infinite wisdom of saviourness and knife-breaking at the most opportune time!
Is NASCAR on yet?
I'm not so sure the knife thing didn't happen. When I was a kid I had a switchblade that looked like it could have passed for a "camping knife", provided you didn't know much about camping knives.
ReplyDeleteThing is, that blade was attached so flimsily it would have broken off if I'd have tried to stab a loaf of stale bread.
Agree with Trump; Carson's story can't be true.
ReplyDeleteAnother part of that story which Carson leaves out is the aftermath, the reaction of school officials. Didn't the kid run to a teacher in a panic and ask for protection from Carson? The fact that this student was attacked with intent to put a knife in his abdomen, would require the school on lockdown. How come Carson's redemption story doesn't bring up any stories of consequences? Where does the story end? Was Carson expelled? Did the student's parents press charges? Did Carson have a criminal record and how did he get into Yale with such a record?
If no one pressed charges or expelled Carson after he intended to knife, injure or kill another student, then the story is bogus.
Hey, could have been one of those made in china cheap Trump belts Macy's no longer sells. Trump calling Carson Pathological is like the fire calling the kettle black Not Excusing Dr Carson's behavior and lies, but. Trump's Pathology is HOOOOOOOGE!
