John Bel Edwards so thoroughly beat David Vitter last night in the race for Louisiana governor, that Vitter is not seeking reelection to the Senate.

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

Completing a long-shot bid that ran counter to the conservative tide sweeping the Southern states, Democratic state Rep. John Bel Edwards was elected governor of Louisiana on Saturday, defeating his Republican rival, U.S. Sen. David Vitter.

Edwards was the top vote- getter in the state’s open primary last month and then built a lead over Vitter that he never surrendered.

With 1,800 out of 3,945 precincts reporting, Edwards led Vitter 55 percent to 45 percent, prompting the Edwards campaign to declare victory late Saturday evening.

Not only did Edwards win, but apparently his campaign against "Diaper" Dave Vitter was so effective, and so humiliating, that Vitter will not seek reelection to the Senate:

Sen. David Vitter announced Saturday night (Nov. 21) that he will not seek re-election in 2016, after losing the Louisiana governor's race.

"I've reached my personal term limit," Vitter joked during his gubernatorial election concession speech at a Hilton hotel across from the airport in Kenner.

Now THAT is a successful campaign!

Diaper Dave: as you exit the political arena, don't let the butt wipes chafe your ass on the way out. Go away.

Thank God! And with a Mississippi win for a Dem preventing a Republican supermajority, perhaps we can start stemming the tide of these horridly gerrymandered state legislatures.

You betcha. After five years of service in the Congress, House or Senate, 'our" representatives walk away with financial security, which increases for each year of service. They then take lobbying jobs, or legal positions, and double-dip for life.

Not quite true. Congress pays into Social Security, and when he is old enough to get it, the amount will reduce his passion. They PAY for health care, same as the rest of us. I assume the retiree plan, like the one my husband and I are in, will cost more than while employed. So don't think he's getting a free ride. And if LA is like other ALEC states, they are now taxing pensions. So while he is a POS and I'm glad he's leaving Congress for good, he was only in Congress 10 years, which is not a full pension, and he is only 54, so if he takes it now, it will be much reduced.

Look at the net worth of some that are members of Congress. They became millionaires AFTER they began serving, not before!

And, after they finish serving (if not too old) they become lobbyists and make huge money doing that! FACTS folks!

I wonder if his wife will stick around? She looked like a whipped dog when he "confessed" after being outed by the prostitute. Prior to that she made a nasty comment about Hillary Clinton, saying if HER husband acted like Bill Clinton, she would go "Lorena Bobbitt" on him, At least Bill did normal things, shameful as it was, unlike Diaper Dave.

Keeping my fingers crossed that we'll have a Democratic sweep in 2016. There is change coming in many of the states already! Yea!!!

We need to get the voters out - work hard, Americans! Votes count, not money!

  9. Anyone else getting the instinct, now that he's a political corpse, sightings of David and Wendy together are going to get as rare as Todd and whatsername?

Let's hope this is a harbinger of change across the country. Maybe there ARE enough sentient humans in this country?

  11. No worries. Vitter will end up at a neocon "think" tank with Jindal. Wing-nut welfare for all the losers and destroyers of states.

Edwards announced he will issue an executive order to adopt Medicaid expansion, thereby enabling 250,000 working Louisianans to afford medical insurance -- unlike Piyush Jindal whose approach to uninsured was "get sick, die."

The "Democrat" is anti-choice, anti-gay rights, and pro-NRA. Tell me again how this is anything to celebrate? Sure Vitter got his walking papers, but this guy is going to govern in much the same way Vitter would have.

Vitter obviously has some urgent need to get out of DC. His type doesn't resign or retire.

But it's amusing that when he put his dirty self right in Louisiana's face, wanting the governorship, they couldn't stand the stink, whereas while he was in DC the awful people of Louisiana had no problem electing him.

  16. So, now that he's lost his bid for governor and won't be running for senate....will he be joining the clown car and run for president?
