Thanks to Obamacare more young women are being diagnosed with cervical cancer. And that's a good thing.

Courtesy of Think Progress:

More young women are getting screened and diagnosed with early-stage cervical cancer, potentially because Obamacare allows them to access insurance benefits through their parents’ plans, according to a new study from American Cancer Society researchers.

The researchers examined a large database that tracks cancer cases in the United States. They compared the cancer diagnoses among women between the ages of 21 to 25 to the diagnoses among women between the ages of 26 to 34 — both before and after the Affordable Care Act’s coverage expansion took effect.

An Obamacare provision that allows young adults to remain insured through their parents’ plans until the age of 26 appears to have affected the rates of cervical cancer diagnosis among that demographic. After the ACA, the diagnosis rates significantly rose for the women in their early twenties and remained fairly constant for older women.

“It’s a very remarkable finding, actually,” researcher Dr. Ahmedin Jemal told the New York Times. “You see the effect of the ACA on the cancer outcomes.”

It’s better to receive an early cancer diagnosis because the disease is easier to treat in its early stages and patients are more likely to survive. Even though it might not sound like a good thing that cervical cancer cases are on the rise, it’s actually reflective of the fact that more people are using their health insurance to get screened. Previous research has found that people with insurance are more likely to take advantage of preventative health services like screenings that can detect cancer as soon as possible.

Just another reminder of how President Obama has positively affected this country, and its citizens.

And don't forget that if the Republicans get their way, they will gladly take this away from us.

And in doing so condemn potentially hundreds of people to an easily avoidable death.

My sister is just incensed that Obama is our President. She and her husband own a couple of small businesses, and you'd think any tax they pay is going directly into Obama's bank account. Her husband is on Medicare and loves it; she HAS to get Colorado ACA because "Obama ended my perfectly good plan that cost $200 a month and now I can't even afford to got to the doctor."
But wait, after she saw her financial advisor, who told her to LOOK at the options, lo and behold, she found a plan she can afford, that covers her doctor visits, her shots, and her inevitable accidents (she is a 60 year old klutz, who is always falling off a bike, or tripping, or needs an emergency appendectomy.) But is she happy? Oh no. IF they close their business, she will have to repay the subsidies that she thinks come out of the taxpayers' pockets. I tried to tell my mom (my sister and I do not speak) that a subsidy is just a tax break, and yes, if she takes in more money than they predict, or they close, she will owe the taxes back. But no, it's all a scam by Democrats to make her poor and miserable. Meanwhile, she buys whatever new gadget she wants for 'the business,' and she runs three websites, gets money from Google ads for her posted videos..poor dear. Oh, and they are 7th Day adventists or something, so no Christmas or Easter or any of those days set aside by pagans and fake Christians.(Also gets her off the hook for corresponding with her five siblings once a year.)
Nope. They have their own feast days and Passover and something....I tell you, a whole other world.

Those 6 out of 10 have to earn less than $23K per year or they don't get more than $80 as a subsidy. Just signed my daughter up and that's what she has. I am grateful for the coverage but it isn't as "cheap" as the above site claims. You have to use your pre-tax income NOT your AGI. That is very misleading on the website at .gov. and can kick people who might get very low coverage up quite a lot (like my daughter).

The RWNJ's will interpret this as proof that Obamacare causes cervical cancer.

I'm thankful today because without Obamacare, I never would have been able to secure medical insurance due to having a preexisting disease. I've been cared for well since!

Thank you, President Obama and the Democrats that passed the Bill initially!

They will NEVER do away with it (Republicans) because they know they will never see one of their candidates sitting in the White House were they to do so. Too many millions are using the coverage currently and like it!

They are nothing but one sick, screwed up party and are coming across like that to Americans throughout the country.

6:28 AM Yea, we all are going to die sometime and very likely in a hospital with the medical insurance as coverage!

I have a parent who died within the past year of cancer and afterwards I thanked Obamacare/medical insurance for the coverage she was able to have! It allowed for the outstanding pain drugs she was provided that made dying for her easier as well as for our family in attendance.

Thank you, President Obama and Democrats! Because of the insurance coverage her family did not have to declare bankruptcy! Without it, they assuredly would have had to!

Death is not fun to watch, but without the care provided in the hospital under the coverage she had, it would have been so much worse . Her pain was very much minimized making her death easier for her and us!

    2. Well, apparently less since the early stages of this awful disease are being diagnosed and treated.

The same care they could receive from PP. Ya know, that organization the RWNJ's want to defund.

  8. I'm glad these young ladies are being diagnosed, but the study leaves out too much information to draw any conclusions as to the ACA being responsible for these findings. It could be that cervical cancer is on the rise period, which is a good bet.

    1. But probably not.

These are just women who now will not die from undiagnosed cancer.

So - the way Faux Neus will interpret this is that the Affordable Care Act causes cervical cancer.

Not only has it saved lives because it covers college age kids under their parent's plan, but it screens for HPV, the virus that often causes cancer, and the shots and backup shots that make it effective. Doing a fake voo doo spell on a step while chanting "No boys beyond this step" just makes the folks against it look dumber than a box of wigs.
I can only speak for myself, but I've noticed a marked difference in health care......for the better.
