GOP prepares for brokered convention in last ditch effort to stop Donald Trump.

Courtesy of Washington Post:

Republican officials and leading figures in the party’s establishment are preparing for the possibility of a brokered convention as businessman Donald Trump continues to sit atop the polls in the GOP presidential race.

More than 20 of them convened Monday near the Capitol for a dinner held by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, and the prospect of Trump nearing next year’s nominating convention in Cleveland with a significant number of delegates dominated the discussion, according to five people familiar with the meeting.

Weighing in on that scenario as Priebus and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) listened, several longtime Republican power brokers argued that if the controversial billionaire storms through the primaries, the party’s establishment must lay the groundwork for a floor fight in which the GOP’s mainstream wing could coalesce around an alternative, the people said.

In response to this news, and realizing that it applies to his potential nomination as well, Ben Carson is threatening to leave the Republican party:

“If the leaders of the Republican Party want to destroy the party, they should continue to hold meetings like the one described in the Washington Post this morning,” Carson said in a statement released by his campaign.

“If this was the beginning of a plan to subvert the will of the voters and replace it with the will of the political elite, I assure you Donald Trump will not be the only one leaving the party,” he continued.

Forget Netflix this is rapidly becoming the best reality show on TV!

Best case scenario as far as I'm concerned will be that the GOP establishment wrests the nomination away from Trump, who then launches a third party candidacy out of spite, allowing the Democratic candidate to waltz into the presidency without having to spend a dime on advertising.

I think the Ben and Don Show will be out off the GOP well before the convention. Trump already wants paid to debate ("what's in it for me me me!!") and Carson needs about one more inane comment before they dump him.
Then maybe the media can be bothered to look into Cruz' religion and how he intends to convert all of America to it. I'm telling you, it's going to be Mitt.

    1. Anonymous5:52 PM

Romney does not want to go down that road again. He does not want to lose another election. He is not the great white hope. He is done.

Oh goodie- a brokered convention where the nomination will be handed to Sarah America...

I feel sick just typing that LOL

Why would you even type something like that?

  3. Anonymous2:58 PM

BFD if those losers leave. If Trump, Carson and any other want to be politicians are really serious about leaving the GOP then tell them to go to the Kingdom of Alaska and join the Alaskan Independence Party, pucker up and plant a big wet one on her Heinous's flat ass.

    He has the KKK:

    1. Trump also got the endorsement of the New England Police -- wait for it -- Benevolence (!) Association of 5,000 cops the day after Trump's bar the Muslims speech.
Association said it was because Trump advocates the death penalty for killing a cop.

  6. Anonymous3:08 PM

To paraphrase a Romneyism … the GOP built this.

  7. Anonymous3:18 PM

Although I want to believe America is too smart to choose any of these clowns, I remember telling my spouse that there was no way GW would win his second term (he didn't win the first one, either). But, being at war played a big part in his election. Pundits kept saying we wanted to send a untied, supportive message to the world. Now, I fear that terror attacks occurring prior to primaries and the election could cloud the thinking of a fearful nation. Trump or Cruz for POTUS is as frightening a scenario as I could imagine and the terrorists would enjoy influencing the outcome.

    1. Anonymous4:12 PM

That will be the ticket one way or the other.

    4. Anonymous6:00 PM

Actually Bush stole #2 as well...they rigged the Ohio machines, and Kerry knew it, but didn't want to put the country through another Florida mess. That is why Rove came unhinged when Obama won Ohio..he KNEW they had it rigged, but turnout screwed him, and saved America.

      @Anonymous 7:15 PM

That is one thing I will never get over, is that the Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court allowed a man who did not win the presidency to be sworn in, TWICE. Two election thefts, and he got away with it by them allowing him to be sworn in.

And Yes Karl Rove tried to do it again with Obama vs. Romney by the internet group ANONYMOUS stopped the theft.

    7. Anonymous3:34 AM

      Dyslexics untie!

    8. Anonymous4:58 AM

Wasn't that something! They all freaked out. Rove thought He was going to have the last word on the election. The looks on their faces was priceless. And now, there's Annonymous. Love him fucking with Dump. Is is going to be cat and mouse with the voting machines this time? Is R Money's son still in the voting machine business? Crooks of a feather certainly Do flock together.

  8. Anonymous3:23 PM

Anon 2:58 what about the true Alaskans who are United States of America citizens? When Trump builds his wall along the Kingdom of Alaska's border, what happens to the USA citizens who didn't sneak across into the lower 48 before the wall is completed? Will they be forever stuck in the Kingdom of Alaska like the East Germans in the Communist days?

    1. Anonymous3:28 PM

If Bristol wants to trap another man in the lower 48 before the wall goes up then she better start lubing up now and head on down to Vegas.

I am waiting for a First Lady ad to be shown on tv featuring Melania Trump. The first foreign born First Lady [where's her birth certificate? can she prove she is now a US citizen] And pictures of her nude photo shoot photo shoot published in GQ magazine in January 2000 with the cover headline Melania Knass earns Her Air Miles. all taken on Trump's plane. There are just some "firsts" that aren't all that good.

Leaders from foreign countries would know what the First Lady of the United States looks like nude! Now that's embarrassing.

    1. Anonymous3:55 PM

I can't agree more. Money can't buy class.

    2. Anonymous5:48 PM

Make that Melania knASS. Her secret service code name will be: T&A.

You just know that the boys being boys who have fucking up royally the last few years will be all over keeping Ms. knASS totally covered and then some.

    3. Anonymous10:22 PM

Was she 8-9 months pregnant in the GA pictures? I saw photos in Vogue of her pregnant, nude on the stairs of Trump's plane.

  10. Anonymous3:28 PM

And I bet Mitt Romney is in a waiting room already, holding his breath.

    1. They'll choose Jeb! over Rmoney. He had his shot and he blew it.

    2. Balzafiar6:06 AM

Not because of the GOP leadership talking him into it, but because Queen Ann of Kolob dragged him there. She wants to be the force behind the throne.

  11. Anonymous3:32 PM

Will prostitution be allowed in the KOA? If you know who's wife is the Prime Minister then no one will be able stop Pimp Daddy.

  12. This is all fine and dandy but we Democrats have to get our own house in order. We can win if we get out the vote and put up good candidates in the down ballot races.

AND, most importantly, get our messaging straight! The Republicans have been allowed to control the message for way too long. We need to be out there, telling the US what Obama has done. And what the Republicans will do if they get into office again. In straight, no nonsense terms. I'm not worrying about who the Republicans put up, I'm worried about OUR campaign.

  13. Sister Sarah's long-lost sister?
    Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs!

  14. Anonymous3:41 PM

I continue to subscribe to the theory that The Donald will leave the field on his own because he doesn't want to be a "loser". This has all been to feed his insatiable narcissism. He'll have to find a way to bow out of the race so that he gives the impression that he feels he can serve the republic and build the better America by creating jobs and brokering peace deals with his superior negotiating powers.

The other scenario that I might envision is that the RNC lets him proceed because at this point he has poisoned the brand completely. The RNC may just let him run because he won't win and at that point they can work towards building the future of the GOP into a party that has meaning. (Believe it or not it once did offer a valid alternative)

    1. Anonymous6:42 PM

Even if the RNC gives up on winning the White House, they still have to be concerned about Congressional and state races. If Trump is on the ballot, they know that many of the sane Republican voters will decide to stay home rather than voting for him. Way more GOP seats in Congress are up for reelection than Democratic seats, so Trump as candidate could be a disaster for the GOP.

    2. Anonymous9:44 PM

Guess he doesn't need a title to make a difference - that sounds vaguely familiar!

    3. I think the GOP is stuck with him.

If they steal the nomination from him he'll run an independent campaign, split the vote and that will hand the election to the Democrats no matter who is on the ticket.

Better to let the blowhard run and lose than split the vote. Once he loses they'll never have to tolerate him again.

    4. Anonymous5:42 AM

A friend offered up the theory that he's trying to be as outrageous as humanly possible so that the GOP will find a way to kick him off the bus, which will let him say, I would've won this thing if the GOP hadn't blocked me. It's long been my own theory that he is out to stick a big middle finger in the GOP eye, ergo the playing nice with Palin, who the GOP would also clearly like to disappear from the planet. Friend's theory is also that Trump doesn't really want to be Pres: doesn't want the hours, the work, the curtailment on personal freedom, the pay cut...

    5. Balzafiar6:08 AM

Sarah is the herpes sore on the GOP lips. They need to remember they were the ones who wanted to play with her so now they are paying the price.

    6. Once he's president, I don't think there is any law that compels a president to actually do his job. (Probably why Rubio wants the job.) So after Trump is elected, he can move into the White House, then use it as a base to hold his business meetings, play a lot of golf, etc. He wouldn't have to do a damned thing and there is nothing anyone can do to make him. He'd also get free use of Air Force One.

I'm not even sure failure to do your job is grounds to impeach a president. If too many vacation days were grounds Bush would have been impeached.

  15. Anonymous3:43 PM

I'm getting worried about this election.

It's tarting to feel like 1968 again, and that's not a good feeling.

    Daily Banter:
Can Anyone Understand Sarah Palin’s Latest Facebook Rant on Sharia Law in America?

According to Sarah Palin, Sharia law is coming to America, so Donald Trump is right — we must stop muslims coming into the country! Or at least that what it appears she thinks.

Here was the former Vice Presidential candidate’s latest facebook monstrosity, purportedly written in english:

Gov’t Isn’t Sifting Pro-Americans From Those Following Sharia Law, Which Conflicts With, and Actually HATES, Our Constitution and Ethics. SHARIA LAW DESTROYS AMERICA

Firstly, who are “Those Following Sharia Law” coming into the country? This would be like saying: who are “Those Following Canadian Socialism” coming into the country?

    4. I've been talking about Sharia law for some time. Maybe that's where Sarah picked up on this. Google "Sharia law" and you will find lots of information.

There is a map of the U.S. showing what states have voted to ban it, and the states who have tried and have been rejected.

      Here is another website:

After Khashoggi ran into financial problems, he sold the yacht in 1988 to the Sultan of Brunei, who in turn sold it to Donald Trump for USD 29 million. Trump renamed the yacht the Trump Princess. No way will Sarah Palin go against Donald Trump. Sarah won't even break camp from Donald Trump when Donald Trump made fun of Americans like her son who are disabled and handicapped. Sarah Palin wants to be Secretary of Energy and is willing to step on her son's back to ride Donald Trump's coattails into Washington DC.

Sarah Palin who do you side with? $9 billion or $32 billion?

Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, whose wealth dwarfs even that of Mr Trump, uses Twitter to call on Republican front-runner a disgrace to all America

Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate who has shot to the head of the polls with a campaign based on hyperbole and bombast, has done it again, this time engaing in a very public slanging match with a Saudi prince.

Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who is thought to be worth $32 billion (£21 billion), called on the Republican frontrunner to withdraw from the race following his demand that Muslims to be banned from entering the US...

Intriguingly, his media holdings include a considerable stake in the parent company of Fox News, one of Mr Trump's frequent platforms.

Earlier this year the prince said he would be giving away all his money to charity.

In contrast, Mr Trump claims to be worth $9 billion - also built from a $1 million loan from his father - but four of his companies have claimed bankruptcy.

On Friday night, he responded to Prince Al-Waleed in typically unrestained style.

Mr Trump's comments have already cost him business in the Middle East, with a major chain of department stores halting sales of his glitzy "Trump Home" line of lamps, mirrors and jewellery boxes.

On Thursday, Dubai real estate firm Damac, which is building a $6 billion golf complex with Mr Trump, stripped the property of his name and image.

It is just the latest in a series of Twitter spats for Mr Trump, whose campaign uses outrage to generate headlines and keep the 69-year-old on television talk shows.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt's family attack Donald Trump over Muslim ban policy

Republican front-runner claimed his plan was 'no different than FDR' when he authorised incarceration of Japanese-Americans during the war

Franklin Delano Roosevelt's family has criticised Donald Trump for his proposal that Muslims should be banned from entering America.

The Republican presidential front-runner said his idea was "no different than FDR", whoauthorised the internment of Japanese-American citizens during the Second World War.

Roosevelt's granddaughter, Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, said that Roosevelt's actions in 1942 had been wrong and that "any effort to discriminate against a group of people based on their race or religion is wrong today".

"Japanese Americans, who were loyal citizens and who served bravely in the US military, were scarred not only by the physical deprivation of internment but by the denial of the dignity and respect of their own country," Mrs Roosevelt said.
