Perhaps the inspiration for the Immoral Minority?

Somebody sent this Bloom County cartoon from 1981 to me the other day, and said they had stumbled upon it and were amused by the fact that it mentioned an Immoral Minority.

Well coincidentally this was one of my favorite strips back then as well.

However I forgot about this particular strip until I saw it again.

I have said many times in the past that the inspiration for the name of this blog was always in response to Jerry Falwell's Moral Majority, and that's true.

That being said it is also possible that this cartoon stuck in my subconscious for twenty three years and in 2004 when I started IM, there it was.

Well I can only hope to have the same positive impact on all of you, that Bloom County had on me way back when I was a fresh faced 21 year old kid.

  1. On the side of the file cabinet by my desk I have a 3.5" ceramic disk with a magnetic back and a glazed full-color front. The caption is "Sometimes a good THPPFT... can help you get through a rough day." Standing on a grassy hillock are Bill, Opus, and a smaller person whose identity I've forgotten, all going "THPPFT!" The articles on Immoral Minority help too!

    Please keep it up.

  2. I still have my "Immoral Minority" button from back then, when J. Falwell was spouting off.

I jut discovered IM early this year. Now, invariably, it is one of the first sites I check every day to see what is going on. I am eternally grateful that there are people like Gryphen brave enough to expose any and all immorality (especially as it relates to $arah$aysPayme).

Happy holidays everyone. May peace be with you.

I found this site, along with Regina and others the first time the name "Saskwatch Failin of Alaska" came up, the McCain campaign was scrubbing sites like there's no tomorrow, I added them to my faves, only to find them either taken down or fake info about his vp pick. It was the bloggers I stayed with, and found Gryphen's to be the most informative and entertaining.
Then, I realized something fishy with the timing of the pregnancy and birth, but the truly immoral thing I found was Sarah's wild ride lie, voo doo witch doctor "blessing" her and the whole Assemblies of God movement. The rest, as they say, is history.
Thanks Gryphen! Don't say it often enough, but I appreciate all you've done and continue to do.

I had a pin that said Immoral Minority on it when I was in high school, early 1980s. So the phrase has definitely been around for a while.

  7. The "immoral minority" was a catch-phrase for quite a while before the emergence of this blog. Even so, I thought Gryphen would have been aware of its prior usage.
