Alabama Congressman says that President Obama is "the most racially divisive President" since slavery. Say what?

Courtesy of Mediaite:

Brooks discussed the president’s State of the Union speech on The Dale Jackson Show yesterday, where he said without a hint of irony that it was rich to hear the most “racially divisive” president in the last 150 years bemoan divides between political parties.

“There probably has not been a more racially divisive, economically divisive president in the White House since we had presidents who supported slavery,” Brooks said. While he conceded that Obama couldn’t be considered the worst ever when compared to presidents who tolerated African American enslavement, Brooks went on to declare that Obama was definitely the worst since the Civil War ended in 1865.

Host Dale Jackson later remarked how racial tensions have become an increasingly sensitive sociopolitical point in past years; Brooks responded that it was part of Obama and Democrats’ goal to sharpen the divides between various groups and compensate for policy weakness.

Do you believe that people spout this garbage?

You know the reason why these idiots think that the President is racially divisive?

Because the minute the first black president was sworn into office, hell before he was even elected, the racists from all over came swarming out of the woodwork to complain bitterly that "their country" was being taken away from them.

All the President had to do to earn their scorn, was to exist.

And by the way does anybody else look at a picture of Congressman Mo Brooks and think it looks like he just then pulled off a white hood?

Nah, Gryph, he's still got the white hood on.

The bigoted Repubs love to make that ignorant, untruthful statement. They are still trashing President Obama, and he is almost out of office.

The truth is, the RACISTS and the NON-RACISTS are divided, and that is not President Obama's fault.

Couldn't agree more. It's the continual effects PTSD from Slavery In America has on white Americans that still can't accept that all men are created equal (i.e., it's no longer legal to own other people and no, you are not superior to others -- regardless of how inferior you think they are).

The Repubs can't let up on the bigotry, even in President Obama's last year in office.

It's really very simple. If blacks knew their place, they would realize the the presidency wasn't their place.

Nope. They are really more p.o.ed because this is a half black president, which means ...miscegenation. And the result that is an intelligent, athletic, handsome and caring and successful man, instead of the illegitimate monsters they think all people of mixed race should be (cause their god told'em so) it just turns their whole worldview upside down. EVERYTHING they've been told since childhood - from parents to pastors ... is a lie.

You're right, 11:39. Not only did Barack's mother have sex with a black man, she had the audacity to obtain a Ph.D. Those things are not allowed in GOPland.

And yet they have Carson, who in their minds "knows his place" and will be a mouthpiece for them. Ive often wondered how that works with people like ben who vote against the good of the all people and especially their own race?

What a despicable POS. If the American people can't see these idiots for what they are and elect a Republican President I will have lost all respect for my Southern neighbours.

The majority of Americans already see the republican idiots for what they are. That's why Obama easily won two terms as our President.

You are 100% right, Gryphen. The election of a black president unleashed a shitstorm of racism, and if Republicans really wanted to know whom to blame, they'd look in the mirror. But they are the biggest bunch of shameless, despicable, bullshitting hypocrites. And I say this as someone who is critical of President Obama in many ways (for the opposite reasons those cretins are though), so it's not as if I'm blindly pro-Obama. But the disrespect he has been shown due to his race alone is just shocking. And this unself-aware ignorant racist you've quoted is a prime example of blaming the victim. It's fucking outrageous.

I stand with you on your opinion and, the last time I checked, we are still a democracy. Isn't it too bad that their candidates lost handily in '08 and '12. Get over it!

  7. It gets so madding that these low life politcians can say anything they want, regardless the truth, without ever having to back up their statements with facts. What i read from this is that our first black president may very well turn out to be the best prez.elected in my lifetime, and i am 63. Effing lying republicains.....

And it makes me laugh that him and his ilk say some of the damned dumbest things. They make about as much sense as a sugared up four year old trying to discuss geo-politics while driving a semi-truck down the freeway with a blindfold on.

Austin is NOT as liberal as people believe! I have been a Texan all of my life and lived in Austin for over six years. They have some very racist, bigoted right wing freaks there. Houston is far more blue than they get credit for. Dallas is basically hopeless. That plsce is a cesspool of Republican stupidity and ignorance.

As many have stated here, imagine what could have been accomplished by our supposed "leaders" if they would have worked together for the good of the citizenry that elected them. But NO, aim for the Black man; he must fail.

That President Obama has weathered all of it with grace and dignity speaks volumes of his character. I really am going to him, and look forward to his plans once he returns to "privste" life. Truly, the best President of my lifetime, warts and all.

I don't think President Obama has ANY warts! He's a Hell of a POTUS in spite of the asshole Republicans (U.S.Congress) continually trying to stop him throughout these two terms.

He has more smarts and balls than all those Republicans! Especially when it comes to McCain, McConnell and Ryan.
