California man sentenced to one year in jail for making anti-Islamic threats has an excuse, Fox News made him do it.

Courtesy of TPM:

The lawyer for a California man sentenced to one year in jail for making threats towards the Council on American-Islamic Relations said Tuesday that his client was provoked by alcohol and a week of binge-watching Fox News, local TV station KFMB reported.

La Mesa resident John David Weissinger pled guilty last year to making email and telephone threats to CAIR's San Diego and Washington, D.C. offices. His lawyer, Michael Malowney, attributed his behavior to alcohol abuse and to having spent a week watching Fox News coverage of the 2015 terrorist attacks at the Paris headquarters of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which left 11 dead.

Sounds like a reasonable defense to me.

Now CAIR should turn around and launch a civil suit against Fox News for instigating threatening behaviors toward them with their slanted Islamophobic reporting.

  1. Oh no they didn't! Fox was just 'asking questions' - that's how they do it. Try to lodge a civil suit at them Weissinger, and I'm sure their lawyers'll make that clear for you. Every Fox 'News' program should carry that boilerplate "For entertainment purposes only." Hell, maybe they do.

    Wow, first there was affluenza.
    Now there is Foxluenza.

Those people who demand self-responsibility from others sure do not want to accept self-responsibility for themselves.

Reminds me of the dysfunctional family members from Alaaaasssskkkaa.

Back in the day, it used to be "the devil made me do it." No, WE and we alone are responsible for every action we take and word we speak. Period.

Bullshit. What about the "twinkie" excuse?
Maybe he was watching Fox AND eating twinkies.

I would be willing to bet there is one other factor involved in his situation: The hate for Islam preached from his churches' pulpit!

I'm telling you, Leland, politics should NOT be preached from a pulpit ever!

It's bad enough that the church I used to go to, back when the Seahawks went to their first Super Bowl, had the children pray during the "young time" lesson that they would win. HUH???

Any church that preaches politics is one I stand up and walk out of post haste. Actually haven't been to one in months.

If you really dislike it that much, why don't you report it to the authorities? I believe the IRS would LOVE to have a good solid case to hit some churches with. I KNOW a lot of the people here would love to see it happen!

But I was talking about the hate speech pouring from the pulpits.

I recently went to a dinner at the invitation of my neighbor. It turns out it was also one of those things where you have dinner and then they try to proselytize with guest speakers. The lies and pure unadulterated HATRED for Islam was so disgusting I actually got up and walked out. When I was about half way out, the idiot at the pulpit asked me where I thought I was going. I told him I was getting away from his ignorant, despicable hatred and lies. He stammered and stuttered then said he wasn't lying. Quite calmly I said to those in the audience, "HE believes what he says, which makes him doubly dangerous. If you want to know which of us is correct, CHECK FOR YOURSELVES," and I left.

Several of the youngsters (16 and older) who were there found me on the streets one day and told me they HAD checked what was said and started spreading the truth.

NEVER try to convince a crowd of the rightness of your words. Ask them instead to search for themselves. It's far more effective.

And as for those who DON'T do it? They're already a lost cause. Like the above guy.

Just get FOX News off the airwaves. And, then make it a subscription only network, but to be allowed to subscribe, viewers would need to pass some sort of intelligence test -- one that proved they were smart enough to realize that what they were about to hear was all crap, paid for and spouted by crazies. That would cut down on their viewers substantially and we would have a nice, calmer populace at last. Take a long time, but it might work out for the rest of the country.

One more charter member of the Party of Personal Responsibility...

Fox made me threaten an Islamic organization.

Obama made me beat up my girlfriend.

The Democratic mayor whose authority we handed over to a Republican emergency manager caused the lead and other chemicals to poison the water.

The ACA made me forget to get health insurance for my family.

Hillary Clinton made the Republican Congress cut funding for the State Department so the embassy in Benghazi would be attacked.

The mean people who found me guilty of ethics abuses made me quit my job as governor.

The law enforcement agencies that caught me poaching deer on a wildlife refuge made me burn down hundreds of acres of federal property and almost kill firefighters.

The mean federal government that insists we pay the grazing fees established by law made me threaten law enforcement officers with weapons and start an armed takeover of federal buildings in another state where I don't even live.

It's HIS fault!! It's HER fault!!! It's never MY fault!!

"Personal Responsibility" never enters their lame excuses. No offense to lawyers, but coming up with schnazzie lines like "Affluenza" and "The twinkie" defense makes all of you look stupid.
What channel will this idiot watch for one year?
