In the first working week of his last calendar year in office, President Barack Obama defied Congress and pursued long-stalled gun control methods through executive action.
Obama gave a speech on his proposals at the White House on Tuesday, where he was joined by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who was shot in the head along with 18 others at a supermarket in Tucson five years ago this week. The president was introduced by Mark Barden, the father of one of the 20 children killed in the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
Tearing up during his remarks, Obama emphasized a point he's made after the many mass shootings that have occurred during his presidency, saying that America is "the only advanced country on Earth that sees this kind of mass violence erupt with this kind of frequency."
"Somehow, we become numb to it and we start thinking, 'This is normal,'" Obama said.
"Instead of thinking about how to solve the problem, this has become one of our most polarized, partisan debates," he added.
You cannot help but hear the pain in the President's voice, or recognize the sadness in his eyes.
You can even see him tear up when he mentions Sandy Hook at the 30 minute mark
And who can blame him?
After all it seems as if every week he is addressing yet another mass shooting. That is the kind of thing that would destroy a lesser man.
So I hope that he not only gets these guidelines in place, but that the next President is willing to not only support them but to strengthen them as well.
By the way some of those on the other side are already using this to fund raise.
Like Ted Cruz for instance:
Gee nothing histrionic about that!
Just another reminder of why it is so important for Democrats to get out and vote this November.
"FOX News host Andrea Tantaros responded to Obama’s tears today during his gun control push.
ReplyDelete“This is how many years? Eight years, he’s almost at the end of his term. And you haven’t heard him go to Chicago and speak out about this issue and he is uniquely poised to do so. But everything he’s doing won’t solve that problem. So I would check that podium for a raw onion. It's not really believable." Fox hosts agreed that Obama’s tears looked disingenuous.

Asswipes! This from the network that gave Vicks-under-the-eyes lover Glenn Beck a show for years.
Yeah, I went over to Fox to see what their idiots plus the so-called judge were saying. Everything is always anti-Obama and anti-Democrats, no matter what. Tantaros is one of the worst with her I'll-kick-your-ass attitude. How could Dave Navarro ever get involved with someone as cold and myopic as her.
DeleteI am deeply grateful for our president.
ReplyDeleteHeidiWY
My husband and I watched the whole speech. At the end we agreed that we would miss this great man when he leaves office.
ReplyDeleteRepublicans are nothing more than low-life fuckers! Screw them and vote them out of office every chance you get in 2016! They do not support or represent Americans!
ReplyDeleteScrew their asses to the wall - on national, state and community levels. Do NOT reelect any of them - especially in the U.S. Congress.
And, vote for Hillary Clinton! Experience counts and none in the Republican clown car have anything that compares to her abilities!
I agree to an extent. I will not vote for another Republican unless they cross their party lines on several issues or show some sense of moderation (I don't see that happening anytime soon).
DeleteHowever, I will also not vote for Hillary in the primary. Sanders all the way.
But... if she is our nominee, I will vote for her in the general, because there is no way in hell I'm voting for the insanity that is the current Republican party.
GOP: Why not enforce existing laws?
ReplyDeleteObama: We'll enforce existing laws.
GOP: Tyrant!!!
O/T Gryphen,I thought you might want to see this.
ReplyDeleteSarah has made a statement to ET:
"For many months we have been trying to reach out to Dakota Myers [sic] and he has wanted nothing to do with either Bristol's pregnancy or the baby," Palin told ET.
Also this: According to Bristol's rep, it's unclear where Meyer received the photo he posted.

Uh Oh. This is going to be a bit unpleasant. The problem, of course, is that the court is in Alaska and the Palins will do whatever it costs to prevail there.
DeleteSo much for Sarah Palin's resolution to stay away from the internet tubes.
Beaglemom
I would LOVE to know what Sarah was saying to Dah at the unwedding wedding reception. She can't dare go after Duh with the same vigor they did Levi. He's a metal of honor recipient, and a true patriot who got his flag pole polished by Revirginized Bristol.
DeleteFL Toddler Shoots Himself In The Face After ‘Responsible Gun Owner’ Leaves Weapon In Truck (VIDEO)
ReplyDeleteA Florida two-year-old is in critical condition after he shot himself in the face Monday night while playing with his “responsible” gun-owning grandfather’s unattended gun. WFTV reports that the unnamed child was riding in his grandfather’s pickup truck when grandpa parked and ran inside the family’s home, leaving the little boy to his own devices. Grandpa, whose name has not been released, also left his gun behind — because what’s the point in being irresponsible if you’re not going to go all-out?
The grandfather says he left the little boy playing with some tools in the back seat, but the child managed to climb into the front of the truck, where Granddaddy kept his .32-caliber Kel-Tec gun. The gun was “responsibly” kept in a holster, but the child removed it and shot himself in the cheek, near his eye. The boy was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where he remains in critical condition.

Rush Limbaugh Squirms And Stammers As A Caller Debunks His LIES About Guns And Obama (VIDEO)
Just about every day, Rush Limbaugh’s big fat lies are systematically exposed and debunked online by a variety of sources, and it never stops being awesome. But when it comes from one of his own dittoheads — and on his own show, no less — it’s especially entertaining. Not only is it fun to hear callers stick it to him, it’s even more fun to watch Limbaugh squirm and pluck his chest, desperately struggling to wiggle out of the call.
Such was the case on Tuesday following President Obama’s executive order to expand background checks and to provide additional funding for mental health treatment and new resources for the FBI and the ATF.
During the January 5 edition of his radio show, Limbaugh was ranting about something he yanked out of his diseased bunghole, suggesting that Obama’s executive order forces patients to tell their doctors where they’re storing their firearms and ammo. Of course, this is total hooey, and Limbaugh would’ve continued to elaborate on his lie if it hadn’t been for an industrious and “pro-gun” caller who totally undermined Limbaugh’s entire rant with the, you know, facts.
Hashtag flop-sweat.
The caller noted that there is, in fact, there are state-level statutes in place already that mandate doctors to ask mental health patients if they believe they’re a danger to themselves, but there’s nothing in either state law or Obamacare or in Obama’s executive order demanding that doctors known where patients are hiding their weapons. Nothing. It doesn’t exist. Limbaugh made it up.

40 Million Bad*ss Birders Just Declared War On Oregon Terrorists
ReplyDeleteAccording to an open letter addressed to the “Oregon Terrorists,” there are some 40 million nature photographers and bird lovers in the United States, and they’re pissed.
The letter, written by a wildlife tracker and nature photographer named Kevin, warns the militants who are currently holed up in Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge that “no small group of armed thugs is going to destroy the great wildlife and national park system that our great Republican President Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir put in place over a century ago.”
Writing under the name Norwegian Chief, the author states that the entire birding community is up-in-arms over what is going on in Oregon:
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2016/01/05/40-million-badss-birders-just-declared-war-on-oregon-terrorists/
8:39, while I must say I sincerely hope what is said in that letter is legitimate, there is absolutely NO evidence it is the attitude of 40million birders. The writer CLAIMS all sorts of things about the numbers of people watching groups like the Oregon attackers, but offers nothing in the way of proof.
DeleteI can agree that if anyone has the ability to know EXACTLY what is happening in "the woods", it would be this type of person. They are very good at everything the letter says they can do as far as stealth and concealment and patience. And it is true that a huge percentage of charges brought against violators comes with evidence from outdoor professionals mentioned in the letter.
I really hope what is said is true. It would go a long way toward changing the "uniforms" of the fools sitting there. But it would carry a helluva lot more weight if the author actually identified him- or herself and an official organization. I have a tendency to take statements made by those called "anonymous" with a rather large grain of salt.
Forget the Palin crap. I highly doubt that we will see a First Family like this in our lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI love this President. I love our First Lady. I am so grateful to them and their adorable daughters.
ReplyDeleteYes! He may not be *perfect* but he's the best we have ever had. Common sense, dignity and forethought are just a few of his outstanding qualities!
DeleteSorry to butt in but I can't even get to the end of the posts per the Meyer story....

"According to Bristol's rep, it's unclear where Meyer received the photo he posted."
Bahahahaha! Someone slipped him the pic and gave him a heads up on the date. "Blessing" indeed! llamf!
Besides the usual lump all mental illnesses together and prevent anyone with one from owning a gun, as well as (presumably) certain crimes, I hope that a way can be devised to prevent angry assholes and the criminally stupid and negligent idiots from buying guns. That carnage may be one body at a time, but it sure adds up.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see consequences for those deaths and injuries in the form of liability insurance requirements, homeowner's insurance premiums, criminal charges, and limitations on gun ownership and usage after demonstrated stupid, negligent, or anger bear use of a gun.
The President's actions are a good start.
Did you see that disgusting pig Andrea tantaros? A new low for fix news.
ReplyDeleteSo, when the Feds sell guns to drug dealers, do they need to register as licensed firearms dealers and do background checks?
ReplyDeleteAnd the good old US, the world's largest supplier of arms to other countries, are we going to stop exporting arms and start promoting world peace? Without the weapons out country sells to other countries (or gives in some cases) there would be a lot less dead people in the world.
