Samantha Bee laments the death of the once great GOP.

Good stuff.

However one part caught my attention last night, and I have to admit confused me a little.

You see around the 3:00 mark Bee refers to Sarah Palin as the "Arctic Maenad," a term I had not heard before.

So I looked it up:

Often, the Maenads were portrayed as inspired by Dionysus into a state of ecstatic frenzy through a combination of dancing and drunken intoxication. In this state, they would lose all self-control, begin shouting excitedly, engage in uncontrolled sexual behavior, and ritualistically hunt down and tear animals (and sometimes men and children) to pieces, devouring the raw flesh.

Yep, sounds about right. You may proceed.

  1. Not a fan of HBO's True Blood I take it..A maenad run amok pretty much so dominates season two. And yes said maenad's behavior is very much like SP. Chaotic, messy, living threatening and all to her own delusional greater glory.

  2. She is great. How Jon never decided on her as his follow up, is a true mystery. Give her the show and create a showcase, maybe, for the S.A. Kid. Maybe a show with an international bent to it. jus sayin'

Sam is one smart Canuck -- although she recently acquired US citizenship so that she could vote. Same with husband Jason Jones.

    2. Yeah. I was kinda hoping Jon would go with Samantha or even choose her and Jason as a team.

I wondered if Tina Fey would have taken it if offered.

I haven't watched since Trevor Noah has taken over and can't say I've missed it. But I have missed Jon.

I watch Colbert every night on the Late Show. He's really settled in and I like most of his schtick and his guests. But I don't care for the musical guests he chooses. I usually turn off when they're on. Thankfully only the last five minutes.

Looks like the root-word for the name Menard.

Love it! Palin is a Maenard Lovin' Raetard (in the Frenchest sense)

    2. Anonymous1:55 PM

LOVE Samantha Bee! Sarah has now added her to the top of that YOOOOOOOGE Enemies List.

    3. Exactly!! It's BIBLICAL!! Holy shit!!

  4. Anonymous1:14 PM

I read the True Blood series, so also knew what a Maenad was, and thought it was pretty clever.

I saw this last night............was hoping you'd run it. And I agree, I like Trevor Noah, but Samantha Bee really knows how to hit it home. Also John Oliver!

  5. I think Samantha Bee is the new Jon Stewart, hands down.

  6. Anonymous3:37 PM

I saw this description of Sarah a long time ago on another blog.It is so true and this could apply to Bristol as well.

She's like a booger stuck to your finger that you can't get rid of. You try to flick it off your thumb and it gets stuck to your index finger and back and forth. It's high time we wipe her on the underside of America's sofa cushion!

  7. Anonymous3:42 PM

I loved it! Samantha Bee nailed it! Maenad? I am jealous. I thought I know every palin vile description known to exist.

  8. Samantha is incredibly funny with razor sharp delivery! Just a great comedian with brains! Love it when a new face suddenly has everyone talking! And a woman really makes it awesome!

  9. Anita Winecooler5:13 PM

Maenad fits perfectly! And it kind of word salady rhymes with Menard! also, too!!!
Samantha Bee had me at "hello", love her timing. "The one who gave us Trump Version 1.0" She NAILED IT!!!! Don't soil your temple garments. The best the GOP could do was dust off George W, and roll out the loser of the last election.

  10. Anonymous6:31 PM

    I think I will be using arctic maenad......a lot.......really a lot.

  11. Anonymous7:25 PM

Maenads hunting down animals, ripping them apart and eating them raw....now we know what happened to Jill.

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
