Super Tuesday Open Thread. Update!

Okay folks this the the big one.

As of this post the first polls are closing in Vermont, Virginia, and Georgia.

With Alabama, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and Tennessee following in about an hour.

Those will be followed by Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Texas within the hour following, and of course Alaska at the very end of the night.

Here is what the polls are predicting

While the polling varies by state, Trump and Clinton both look to be leading in a number of states across the map. For Republicans, Trump looks to be leading in Virginia, Georgia, Oklahoma and Vermont, among others. As for Texas, Cruz leads in some polls while Trump leads in others, so it could be a very close race.

On the Democratic side, Clinton leads in most states that will vote on Super Tuesday: she is up by double digits in Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Arkansas and Alabama, according to recent polling. Sanders leads big in his home state of Vermont; he's close or slightly ahead of Clinton in Massachusetts and Oklahoma.

It is going to be a long evening for the political junkies among us.  So get your popcorn and the beverage of your choice ready and let's see where the night takes us.

Update: So early returns show Hillary winning Georgia and Virginia, with Bernie taking Vermont.

Update 2: Okay so Trump has won in Georgia, but Virginia and Vermont remain too close to call.

Update 3:  MSNBC is now projecting that Donald Trump has won Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Alabama. Hillary has also won Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Alabama.

Oklahoma is too close to call for both parties.

Update 4: In no surprise to anyone, Hillary is projected to win Arkansas. But it is too close to call between Donald Trump and ted Cruz.

Update 5: So it looks like Hillary takes Texas for the Democrats, and Ted Cruz captures it (His home state.) for his side of the aisle.

Also it looks like Cruz also won Oklahoma, as did Sanders.

Super Tuesday should be pretty super for Hillary Clinton -- apparently Democrats aren't buying the socialist's claims that she's corrupt! Now he wants transcripts. Poor Bernie.

I live in Oregon and our primary isn't until May. Never understood that....why have one at all?

At least they changed to vote by mail. Before then, many didn't vote in the general because they had already called the election by the time most people were just getting off work.

Be lucky you even have a primary, we don't even have a Democratic primary here in AK we have a Caucus, which is just a lot more trouble than simply casting a ballot.

    2. Anonymous5:07 PM

Caucus here in Colorado which I am missing right now because it's on a Tuesday night, need to line up by 6:30 after a long day of getting the kids off to school, going to work, after school activities, husband out of town, need to try and get child care on a Tuesday night from 6:15 to 9:00, etc..

Even if I could get someone to watch the kids, I would have to sit through speeches and listen to people rant about their chosen candidate. If I could walk in, fill out a ballot and leave, it would be great. I've done my research and I'm not going to be swayed away from my candidate and I can't afford to waste 2 hours of my time.

I moved here from a primary state and right now I'm really missing it. I love that we have all mail-in voting for general elections, but caucuses suck.

    Here's how Hillary does it.

She pretty much ignores Trump(which will make him crazy with him being such a thin skinned, narcissistic, toddler), sticks to sharing her plans, thoughts, ideas with the American people, staying cool, calm, and collected (like POTUS). Then once Trump is foaming at the mouth, begging her to engage, she wallops him, bigtime, and doesn't stop til he's on his 'electorial knees.

Trump's Achilles heel is his need for worship, adoration, attention, flattery. He HATES being mocked, laughed at, talked down to, but most of all he hates being ignored.

But she should not let him lure her anywhere near the gutter he's been wallowing in. She will 'sting like a bee' for the final KO, most likely the debates.

That's of course if they are the candidates in the general.

    11. The debates will be interesting. If Trump indulges in his usual rude habits such as yelling over the other candidate or lobbing personal insults, I don't think it will go well for him.

He will be determined to run the debate and be in charge because he can't stand anyone telling him he has to follow their rules.

I think many would be sympathetic to the Democratic candidate if he is disrespectful. On the other hand, we will also expect them to not let him get away with what he will surely try to do.

I think the posters above who suggested that laughing contempt and dismissal will be a good weapon for getting him to blow his top are correct.

Check out Trump's face in the clips from the WHCD a few years ago. Google Seth, Obama, Trump, WHCD.

For Americans with an IQ above a potted plant, the debates will also be striking in that any Democratic candidate will discuss issues with multi-syllabic words, assuming that the audience has the brains and knowledge to understand. Listen to Trump. His language is at a "See Spot run. He runs and runs. See Spot. Spot runs." level. He uses one syllable words and repeats them over and over again. I can't help but picture my hardback first-grade reader with the plaid cover. If you took the duplicate sentences out of any of his yammerings, his speeches would be cut in length by two-thirds.

Second Amendment teenager defends himself in bid to stay in bed, shoots family. Only hits three of five.

"An argument over getting out of bed for school Tuesday morning led a teenage boy to open fire on four family members, including his grandmother and two young children, in an East Nashville home, Metro police said."

"There was a quarrel about getting up and getting ready for the day when (at some point) the 16-year-old ran to a closet, got a 9 mm handgun and started firing," Mumford said.

Bullets struck the teen's 67-year-old grandmother twice, and his 12-year-old sister and 6-year-old nephew were both grazed by gunfire. The teen's nephew is his older sister’s son, Mumford said.

The teen also tried to shoot his 42-year-old mother in the living room of the home, but Mumford said the woman ducked behind a couch and avoided being hit.

The teen's 2-year-old sister was also in the home when the gunfire broke out but she was not struck by bullets, Mumford said."

    Buzzfeed:
Donald Trump Secretly Told The New York Times What He Really Thinks About Immigration

The details? Release the transcript. UPDATE: Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have called on Trump to ask for the tape to be released.

The New York Times is sitting on an audio recording that some of its staff believes could deal a serious blow to Donald Trump, who, in an off-the-record meeting with the newspaper, called into question whether he would stand by his own immigration views....

Neither Baquet, Collins, nor various editorial board members I reached would comment on an off-the-record conversation, which the Times essentially said it cannot release without approval from Trump, given the nature of the off-the-record agreement.

Times editorial page editor Andrew Rosenthal told me he would not comment "on what was off the record at our meeting with him."

"If [Trump] wants to call up and ask us to release this transcript, he's free to do that and then we can decide what we would do," Rosenthal said.

Trump, whose spokeswoman didn't respond immediately to an email, can resolve this mystery: He can ask the Times to release the tape. Will he? ...

Even if he goes away after the election, they will still be out there, living among us.

What the hell has happened to my country????

They were always out there. Now they've just become emboldened to take off their masks, is all. Or their hoods.

I feel exactly the same way you do.

Six N.J. newspapers call on Christie to resign

The six newspapers including the Asbury Park Press, the Cherry Hill Courier-Post and the Morristown Daily Record — all Gannett-owned papers that are part of the USA TODAY NETWORK — were apparently spurred to editorial outrage by a Monday press conference in which Christie refused to answer questions about anything other than his nomination of a state Supreme Court judge. Asked why, Christie replied, "Because I don't want to."

"We’re fed up with Gov. Chris Christie’s arrogance," the papers wrote. "We’re fed up with his opportunism. We’re fed up with his hypocrisy."

    Oklahoma for Bernie!
"As Oklahoma goes, so goes Vermont."
American history buffs will recognize that from the 1936 Presidential campaign of Alf Landon and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who won all but two states in 1936.

Will have to read some analyses tomorrow about what happened in that outlier state. Yeah, Bernie.

Donald Trump Destroys His Campaign With Disastrous Press Conference Full Of Gibberish

Donald Trump burned his presidential campaign to the ground with a delusional press conference full of gibberish which proved that the Republican frontrunner is unfit to be president.

Politicususa is often very off about many things. They don't get that a good chunk of Americans are redneck dunces and don't see the world they do. I would bet his braindead supporters thought his press conference was amazing!
I stopped reading this site because they are so far left it is as bad as reading the far right stuff. It is too bad because I do like Sarah Jones's articles, especially when she writes about Sarah.

  42. The election proves what the polls have been showing; Democrats are not coming out to vote. If that is the same in the general election in November, Trump will be president.

Looking at the map, its a little scary that Hillary hasn't taken ANY northern state by more than .2 percent to 2 percent.

Are there enough southern states to give her the upper hand here?

If Hillary picks one of the Castro brothers as her running mates she will take Texas and every other state with a high Hispanic population. As it stands now Hillary has 453 delegates to Bernie's 2824. Also, Hillary has taken Massachusetts which is a Northern State and will take New York.

Well apparently not you since running mates aren't picked at this moment. And by taking Texas, I meant in the general election not the primaries. Maybe you should not post so early in the morning.

Well that's the Daily Kos for you. Bernie isn't actually hanging on to anything meaningful. Oklahoma is the reddest state in the union.

And here's a little secret: Democrats could make Georgia blue if they wanted it. In 2008 it wavered in purple land for weeks.

Didn't Bristol tell Levi and Sadie she had BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY??

You CAN NOT BREAST FEED after this surgery. I know this is true. Two friends who considered surgery in ther twenties, one went for it , one didn't. Breastfeeding issue was the show stopper for the latter. She waited til her forties after her kids.
