Well this certainly is not going to help Bernie Sanders.

Courtesy of Politico:

Bernie Sanders got props for his comments about guns during the debate—but probably not from the group he would like.

The National Rifle Association tweeted Monday praising Sanders’ comments on guns during Sunday night’s Democratic debate.

“Sen. Sanders was spot-on in his comments about gun manufacturer liability/PLCAA,” the NRA tweeted with a graphic of the Vermont senator’s quote that reads: “What you’re really talking about is ending gun manufacturing in America. I don’t agree with that.”

Somebody needs to tell Sanders that if you are running for the nomination to be the Democratic candidate for president in 2016, that the very LAST group you want agreeing with you is the fucking NRA.

Do you know who DOES understand that?

Hillary Clinton and her campaign.
Yep you guessed it, Ian Sams is indeed a Clinton staffer.

This cements my support for Bernie, I'm a liberal who is also an avid hunter and have a gun in my home for protection as well. Bernie 2016!

I agree with you, liberal have a shotgun for home protection, been an NRA member since childhood, and believe that the onus lies in Governmental regulation of WHO HAS ACCESS TO arms rather than litigation against gun manufacturers.

We as a country need to scrutinize the people purchasing the arms, rather than the arms themselves, and until that happens there will be crazy people with deadly weapons that harm others.

If you open the door to regulating things that are harmful to human life then we would end up with no fast food, no processed food, and most of the prescription drug industry would be kaput.

You can be a gun owner and still be against blanket immunity for gun owners and manufacturers. You can be a gun owner and still support the Brady Bill and longer waiting periods.

We do regulate prescription drugs. We also regulate fast food and processed food and cars and roller coasters and lots of things that are potentially harmful to human life.

Yet, you think we shouldn't regulate guns, something specifically manufactured as a deadly weapon?

2:52, regulating isn't banning. It's making sure that what you are selling or providing to the public is safe to a certain level. I wish we could regulate more in many areas.

I'm posting this again from the debate post.

Hillary is being disingenuous on the gun issue.

She is holding a fundraiser on March 21 that will feature as one of its hosts Jeff Forbes, who until the end of last year worked as a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association?

How is she being disingenuous? This is what she said:

“He has voted with the NRA, with the gun lobby, numerous times,” she said. “He voted for immunity for gun makers and sellers … There is no industry in America that was given the total pass the gunmakers and gun dealers were, and that needs to be reversed.”

An ex-lobbyist is raising money for Hillary Clinton.

The NRA is heaping praise on Bernie Sanders after his comments.

One of my favorite comments from the debate was Sanders on his blind spot about racism:

"When you are white, you don’t know what it’s like to be living in a ghetto, you don’t know what it’s like to be poor, you don’t know what it’s like to be hassled when you are walking down a street or dragged out of a car," Sanders said.

Yes, he did say the ghetto comment, which tells me he still doesn't understand nor connects with the "Black lives Matter" movement. I was waiting for Hillary to bite his index finger as he wagged it in her face "lecturing" her on his record. Did she say "Stop making and selling guns?"

Bernie boils everything down to 1)money in politics and 2) (related to #1) income inequality imposed by the greedy millionaires, billionaires and Wall Street. I don't think he grasps the complexities of racism (or any issue). He sees racism as a poverty issue. He did a good thing by referencing institutional racism but his context seems to be that it's limited poor, inner city poor neighborhoods and would be solved by income equality.

    1. Yeah I did. And it's a feeling I can't shake.

It's part of the reason that I want Hillary to choose Warren as her running mate and then step aside and let Warren run in 2020.

I realize that such a scenario is unlikely, but I think it could help to hold onto the White House for another twelve years.

By the way I think that Bernie is likely to be a one term President as well.

The only way that would not be the case is if the GOP nominates a Ted Cruz to run against him.

I don't disagree with that. Bernie does have his weaknesses as a candidate, but I do agree with most of his message. I hope our country makes the corrective turn of getting money out of politics within the next couple of cycles because I might not be around in another 20 years.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago, but it's worth repeating. Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton, said recently that "Hilary Clinton is the best candidate for the system that we have, and Bernie Sanders is the best candidate for the system that we should have." In all honesty, IMO, not trying to cheer-lead for one candidate or the other, the country is faced with a dilemma.

To do so would require something that would convince the electorate that the Democrats were either offering something new and different, or to be so incredibly successful that the country could not imagine electing anybody else.

I don't know if she'll be ready to run for the presidency in 2020 but she's got potential. Also, Warren could run even if she's not VP and might have a better chance if she's not VP. I can't think of a VP who followed up with more than a one-term presidency.

Poor Bernie had a bad night, it happens sometimes. He played into the NRA's hand, extrapolated that white people have no idea what living in a ghetto is like, don't know what it's like to be poor. Where does he come up with this stuff? I'm white, was raised in a ghetto, and was by no means middle class nor rich growing up. He just proved he has no idea of what the "Black Lives Matter" movement is about. He's a victim of white privilege, poor guy.

Finally, people are starting to talk about how there is no such thing as mental illness.

"The central point of this and my earlier posts is that there are no mental illnesses. There are problems of living – problems that human beings encounter, sometimes resolve, sometimes live with. The so-called mental illnesses are an attempt to explain or understand these phenomena, but as explanations they are spurious, unhelpful, and indeed, counter-productive. They are merely labels."

The glut of guns in this country has got to be dealt with sensibly. Responsible gun owners should pass tests and carry insurance - similar to the way we handle driving. The thought of random bullets and emotional triggers causing so much harm and heartbreak drives me mad. I'll defend Bernie on this front though. He has been representing the interests of his constiuents when it comes to guns, not the NRA. My suspicion is that any conservatives who are lauding Bernie for his gun policy, have come to bury Bernie, not praise him.

Sanders SUGGESTED Clinton wants to end gun manufacturing in the US.

Instead of vomiting out talking points, how about you use that brain of yours to really look at what's going on.

Clinton isn't saying gun manufacturers shouldn't produce their products in the US, just that they shouldn't have blanket immunity from law suits (which no other industry has).

Sanders says that lifting blanket immunity for gun manufacturers could ultimately cause them to stop making guns in the us.

So Bernie Sanders, the man who everyone claims is for the people and not for big companies, really loves the gun industry and wants to protect it from regulation.

That's sounds like the anti-regulation rhetoric we've heard from Republicans for decades. Since when did Bernie Sanders become a Republican?

6:55 are car manufacturers liable when someone purposely runs over another with a car? Are baseball bat manufacturers liable when a baseball bat is used as a weapon?

Gun manufacturers do not have 'blanket immunity'. Like other products, if a gun malfunctions and causes injury or harm due to product defect, they certainly can be liable as any other manufacturer. But they absolutely should not be held liable for someone intending to use it illegally.

Auto dealers can be sued if they don't do a good enough job making their product safe. They can be forced to add safety features. Not so with gun manufacturers.
