Alaska Congressman for life Don Young has a new challenger.

Courtesy of KTUU:

Former journalist and non-profit executive Steve Lindbeck announced today that he’s running as a Democrat to unseat Young, saying it’s time for change.

“He’s been there a long time and as Alaskans we owe him a lot of respect for 43 years of service but things do change. The way things worked before may not work in the future. We’ve got to look ahead,” Lindbeck told Channel 2.

“Maybe it’s time for a fresh face,” he said.

Actually it is well past time for a "fresh face."

The question is will this Lindbeck fellow be it, or will he be crushed in defeat like so many who have gone before him?

Don Young is 83 years old and yet if he wants to be reelected, which he does, it is quite likely that he will be. Remember the Republican party still holds the reins of power in this state.

I know, I know, I'm cynical. But I have seen this movie play out so many times before it is all but impossible not to predict the ending.

So stop predicting, get out from behind the computer and GOTV as all of us need to do this election year and in 2018.

Maybe Stevens could be convinced to have $carah stump for him? Sure fire way of losing!! Maybe he could sober Bristles up and have her and all her kids on the campaign trail alongside him also, too.

I'm not trying to throw shade on your Dem up there in the frozen north or anything, but I'm about halfway through reading "Game Change" and - with the exception of Barack Obama - wouldn't it be nice if someone that isn't a douchebag would run for elected office once in a while?

President Obama seems to be the exception to that "douchebag" rule and maybe THAT'S why he won the last two elections by landslides.

Besides Barack, pretty much everybody - on BOTH sides - were (and ARE) assholes. Just festering assholes interested in winning and the power and riches that go along with it. DisGUSting.

    "43 years of service"
If he was drawing salary this was not 'service' it was a job.

The same goes for any politician, public servant or member of armed forces. If you get paid, it's your job. Just do it.

Hmmm...5:59. T.Rump has purportedly his own money, but yes, he is an ass, a douche and whatever other term deals deragotorily with human waste orifices. Bernie never seems to have been after $$. Hillary and Bill have cash, have the power of a past Presidency, so.......? Cruz and Goldman Heidi - yep. He's always wanted to play in the big leagues, but is really just a beer league brain. Lehman Kasich is the same, with a strong streak of lazy AND faux authoritarian when it suits him thrown in.

I can't figure out how "wetback" Donnie got elected so many times. I didn't know ANYONE who ever vote4d for him.

He always gets almost 100% of the native/rural vote. Plus all the super a-hole rwnj and military votes. Don't kid yourself; there are a lot of them up here, even if you (and I) don't associate with them.

    Lindbeck will get my vote!

Waaay past time to get the grumpy old man, Don Young, out of the U.S. Congress. He has done nothing while taking up a seat and is very much a part of the 'do nothing' Congress!

As much as I hate to say it, at this point in time, with the bottom falling out of the Alaskan economy, we need Don Young in Congress. We need his seniority to bring in whatever federal dollars he can in the coming years to help offset this huge recession we are about to experience.

  10. At 83 Don Young could die during the campaign. So his re-election is hardly a sure thing.
