Before he leaves office President Obama is determined to do SOMETHING to protect this country from gun violence.

Here is what the post says:

Today, I want to update you on some important progress we've made to protect our communities from gun violence. As I said in January, these commonsense steps are not going to prevent every tragedy, but what if they prevented even one? We should be doing everything we can to save lives and spare families the pain and unimaginable loss too many Americans have endured.

First, we've jumpstarted the development of smart gun technology. Today, many gun injuries and deaths are the result of legal guns that were stolen, misused, or discharged accidentally. As long as we've got the technology to prevent a criminal from stealing and using your smartphone, then we should be able to prevent the wrong person from pulling a trigger on a gun. So, my Administration released a plan today to expedite the development of smart gun technology, including by identifying the requirements that smart guns would have to meet in order for law enforcement to purchase and use them effectively - and keep themselves and the public safer in the process.

Second, we're doing more to make sure that those who are already prohibited from obtaining a firearm can't get their hands on one. Today, we’re announcing a rule to ensure that federal mental health records about individuals prohibited from buying a gun are reported to the background check system.

Third, the White House will convene state and local elected officials from all 50 states in May to discuss their efforts to prevent gun violence through legislative and executive actions. The goal is to figure out what works on the ground when it comes to keeping our communities safe, and then share those practices.

As long as I'm your president, I will do everything in my power to make our communities safer and keep guns out of the wrong hands. That includes calling on Congress to pass the kinds of commonsense reforms supported by the vast majority of the American people.

Making progress on these issues is how we honor the lives that have been lost by gun violence, and it's how we leave behind a stronger, more secure nation for our children.

Now I think it would seem like this technology would be a great compromise for the NRA to embrace since it would not hinder guns sales and also render them much safer.

But if you thought that you would be wrong.

Of course the NRA does not want a compromise, because the best way they can serve their gun manufacturing masters is to help frighten Ammosexuals into buying more guns by telling them the government is about to make them illegal.

And do you know what gets the government talking about making guns illegal?

More gun deaths.

Do you see a pattern here?

If we'd stop calling it gun control and call it gun safety, which is what it is, we might get something done. If nothing else, the NRA would look even more foolish trying to fight "gun safety"

That's a great idea. Words do matter and who's against safety.

And there's the bit, my wonderful President Obama. "That includes calling on Congress to pass the kinds of commonsense reforms supported by the vast majority of the American people."

Congress isn't going to do a darned thing. The NRA is in their pocketbook; verified after Sandy Hook. They don't care about the American citizenry and, quite honestly, it's spiraled so out of control that how would one ever get a handle on it?

Obama Blasts Senate Republicans: I’ve Done My Job, Now Do Yours

President Obama has unleashed a powerful election-year message by calling out Senate Republicans for their historic obstruction.

    The President said:

It’s now been 45 days since I nominated Judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court. Judge Garland is a man of experience, integrity, and unimpeachable qualifications. Judge Garland is someone who Senate Republicans are on record saying is “a man of accomplishment and keen intellect;” a man who’s “honest and capable;” a man whose “reputation is beyond reproach.” Those are all quotes from Republicans in the Senate.

But so far, most Senate Republicans have refused to even meet with Judge Garland. Which means they’ve also refused to do their job and hold a hearing on his nomination, or an up-or-down vote. But they’ve still found time to head home for recess over the next week.

This is an abdication of the Senate’s responsibility.

I hope he accomplishes something, anything to make all of us safer. He's so right, I can't start my work issued cell phone without my thumbprint and my passcode, same with my office door and computer. And these are tools we're all familiar with. Last I heard, no one was killed by a cell phone, lock, or computer, so the technology's already there.
OT Target has an AMAZING commercial, saw it for the first time today. It's close ups of women's faces speaking spanish saying "I am myself". High on fashion, very crisply filmed until you realize they're a mixture of females, transvestites, and transexuals. There's no toilet door, no hate, no anger, just a company supporting it's customers. Brilliantly done.
