Here is George Clooney's MTP interview in its entirety.

This is important to share because since fairly early yesterday the only part of this interview that has been showing up repeatedly on the internet is this part:

CHUCK TODD:

Let me start with dinner you co-hosted on Friday night, a big fundraiser. I know that you have plans for later tonight. Do you look at how much is being raised and, I think the cost of the friday night dinner $353,000 a couple to be a co-chair, do you look at it yourself and think, "That's an obscene amount of money?"

GEORGE CLOONEY:

Yes. I think it's an obscene amount of money. I think that, you know, we had some protesters last night when we pulled up in San Francisco and they're right to protest. They're absolutely right. It is an obscene amount of money. The Sanders campaign when they talk about it is absolutely right. It's ridiculous that we should have this kind of money in politics. I agree completely.

That is the portion which has been pushed hard by the pro-Sanders people.

However as you watch Clooney's entire answer, and he is quite eloquent in his response, you learn that while he admits it is an obscene amount of money it is also a necessary amount of money as much of it is going to the Democratic party to support down ballot races.

Of the money collected, $2700 went to Clinton's primary campaign, $2700 went to her general campaign, and all the rest was divided among a large number of donw-ticket candidates and the DNC. In contrast to this, it has been reported that the Sanders campaign has given financial aid to all of 3 down-ticket candicates.

Senile Bernie most likely wants a chunk of the money Hillary raised.

I have hated hearing the one quote on TV. Today I heard a news anchor say that Clooney "admitted" it was an obscene amount of money, as if he had been hiding something!

What's obscene is that this much money has to be raised.

    1. Right, and Clooney's point about funding down ballot races in the hopes of taking back the Senate and confirming Supreme Court Justices that will overturn Citizen's United is the argument that ALL of us should be making.

He took a private jet to Italy and back. That is obscene. It most likely cost close to 1/2 million dollars for his folly to the Vatican ( and he isn't even catholic).

    2. Anonymous4:48 PM

Plus what a waste of carbons. For a jet to go back and forth across the Atlantic.

The fuel per gallon and carbon emissions must have been astronomical on a per person basis.

Not very environmentally friendly that move was.

    3. Anonymous5:00 PM

      Ha. LOL.

I tried to figure carbon footprint of Bernie's Fling Flight to be able to say he met with the pope.

Only problem is the calculators assume that you are one of a full plane of other passengers.

I guess they figure no one who claims to care about the environment would fly a basically empty plane to France and back.

(Now I realize there are times and reasons for flying an empty plane. And that politicians in the heat of it are doing lots of flying. I'm not complaining.

But, it seems to me that The Burn, or any politician who claims to want to represent the Democratic Party should factor the environmental cost into such a decision and have a ready answer.

Somethings being bigger than politics is NOT the correct answer.

He apparently decided that pretending to care about Catholics was more important than staying home and meeting face-to-face with a bunch of Catholics.

Oh, right. The pope "represents" Catholics, so he can see him and "count" as meeting with them all.)

I was raised Catholic and haven't gone to church in ages, but this whole go see the Pope thing really irritates me. Can you tell?

The big make-or-break primary coming up in just days and he stops everything to fly across the Atlantic to see a guy he doesn't even believe in or support?

Sounds like something Trump would do just for the response he'd get and the free publicity from the preperousness of it.

    4. Anonymous7:07 PM

Who paid for that trip? I hear his supporters say he went to "meet with the pope"? But Pope says no, he just greeted him, so WTF did bernie go there? In the middle of a campaign? Can you imagine if Hillary did that? They'd have a flippin cow!

  5. Anonymous12:13 PM

It's not "an obscene amount", it's many small amounts, the smallest being Hillary's.

That's what it cost for all the contributions to the various candidates across America- and the people attending the fundraiser can all afford it.

Sanders must be so jealous that all his Hollywood fans are happy to ride his bandwagon but he has to use campaign funds because they're not springing for a private jet to Rome for Sanders and his family of grifters.

"Hillary Victory Fund reported receiving individual contributions as high at $353,400 or more, "which is over 130 times the $2,700 limit that applies for contributions to Secretary Clinton's campaign."

"Bernie 2016 is particularly concerned that these extremely large-dollar individual contributions have been used by the Hillary Victory Fund to pay for more than $7.8 million in direct mail efforts and over $8.6 million in online advertising, both of which appear to benefit only HFA by generating low dollar contributions that flow only to HFA, rather than to the DNC or any of the participating state party committees," the letter says."

I remember the good old days when the media was accused of having a right-wing bias, a vast right-wing conspiracy, if you will.

Now I'm supposed to believe there's a Sanders media conspiracy on top of that? Where's my pearls? I feel the need to clutch. Frank?! Have you seen my fainting couch? I may need that too.

12:48 I took your comment as a suggestion to watch this and am glad I did. It was interesting and Clooney is so cool and thoughtful.

And his comments do seem to be taken out of context as he says it should cost so much to run for office, but it does and he's fighting to get rid of Citizens United by getting a liberal appointed to the Supreme Court.

He didn't mention it, but that would also go a long way to keeping Roe vs Wade safe in the Supreme Court.

$26 million went into the Clinton campaign before a single vote was cast.

Meh, rich people are always involved in politics. The rest of us only donate money to causes that are tax deductible, such as public radio or TV. Not many can afford to donate to political causes unless you are rich enough to not care that it's not deductible.

    TOTALLY O/T

False Delegate Counts, By Media Institution
(from most inaccurate delegate count to least inaccurate count)

Here’s how big a favor the media is presently doing Mrs. Clinton — who, again, leads Senator Sanders by just 194 delegates:
    CBS: 695 *
    Politico: 672 *
    NBC: 664 *
    ABC: 244
    Fox News: 244
    RealClearPolitics: 244
    CNN: 229
    New York Times: 220
    FiveThirtyEight: 206

    * Network falsely includes super-delegates in delegate count, against the express demand of the Democratic National Committee.
