More infighting among the GOP crowd as the hard right "Freedom Caucus" goes after establishment Republicans in new documentary.

Courtesy of TPM:

Hard right members of the House of Representatives have picked a new venue for fighting with their GOP leaders: a soon-to-be-released documentary film.

Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), an outspoken member of the House Freedom Caucus, touted the documentary produced by The Blaze that he and fellow caucus member Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) participated in Monday. The documentary “District of Corruption," premieres later this week, and judging by the trailer, it takes some serious shots at current and former Republican leaders who have long been in the House Freedom Caucus' line of fire.

The documentary will examine the "establishment" promises made by Republican leaders like former House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Majority Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) after the Republican sweeps in 2010 and 2014, according to the trailer.

The thing the teabaggers never seemed to understand is that the "will of the people" that they complain is not being represented in Washington is just the will of THEIR people, just like the will of the far left is never represented completely either because policies that they support are shot down by the more conservative politicians.

The whole idea of politics is that each Representative or Senator is elected to represent the wants and needs of their constituencies, and their job is to attempt to get those needs and wants met, realizing of course that there will be compromises that will disappoint those that put them in office, just like there will be disappointments for the people who put their ideological counterparts in office.

If you want a more conservative agenda you elect more conservatives.

If you want a more liberal agenda you elect more liberals.

However if you elect strict ideologues, unwilling to compromise even a little, then essentially none of your policy ideas will succeed because they will always run into a brick wall which will refuse to budge too far in either direction.

By the way the teabaggers are not the only group having trouble understanding that simple truth.

  1. Most of those trolls got elected because only 25-30% (if that) of eligible voters actually voted!!! We do this to ourselves when we don't show up and do our part.

Yep, the teabaggers came to power because the dems were too pissed off at President Obama for not fixing every problem Bush created in 8 years during the first 2 of his presidency. Firebaggers and their ilk, lazy dems, are the reason we have teabaggers at all. Without dems staying home out of pique in both 2010 and 2014, we would not be where we are today.
You watch, if Sanders is elected the same damned thing will happen to him. You read it here first.

While I agree that national legislators have an obligation to their immediate constituents, they also have an obligation to the nation. Too many of the Tea Party and conservative legislators never seem to put the country, or its citizens, first. They seem to think that GOP absolute unity is all that matters because Republicans elected them. Their oath of office goes far beyond immediate constituencies and party interests.

Gryph, I agree that they don't get that the "will of the people" they're upset about not being represented is their own will of the far right, those representatives heavily courted the far right and made them promises in their churches. They take that shit seriously.

The R's could have waited for things to take their natural course and compromised on some things and still got what they wanted. But they didn't want to wait for natural results, they wanted VAST numbers in our government. They stirred the abortion pot and stirred the family values pot amongst people who have trouble keeping a one track mind straight, then they drove them to the polling places from church.

BTW, isn't this how we ended up with "Citizens United" - A negative film about Hillary being released by one of their extremists in an election year? They've got jack shit to cry about. Maybe corporations won't be people, after all.

Hmmm... Hubby said something that many of the GOP are considering NOT to attend their convention this summer.
WTF ARE WE PAYING THESE CLOWNS FOR??? They refuse to do their jobs - yet get paid anyway, and once they are out, they get a very, very generous retirement package, which cannot be taken away from them. These last seven years, they have learned their lesson very well.mthere never has been a do-less Congress than we have had the last time and especially this time around.
I am really pissed off here. Wish there was something I could do to influence our government.

You can vote in midterm and local elections. That's how to affect government and make your voice heard.

Also, you can encourage other people to vote as well.

But a question: What makes you and "hubby" think the elected members of Congress are REQUIRED to go to their PARTY'S convention as part of their elected job?

O/T, sorta I always felt Eric Cantor lost his seat when he presented President Obama & Vice President Biden a Crystal Vase for an Inaugural gift in 2013, the hard right of the top resented this.

I don't know what they consider "the will of the people", when President Obama was twice elected by a landslide, the Republicans did nothing for their pay, zip, zero, nada except accepting the teaparty with open arms.
The will of the people was and is being done, by President Obama Despite it all and against all odds.
