Bernie Sanders is not ending campaign, hopes to capitalize on any harm that Donald Trump can do to Hillary Clinton before California primary.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Defiant and determined to transform the Democratic Party, Senator Bernie Sanders is opening a two-month phase of his presidential campaign aimed at inflicting a heavy blow on Hillary Clinton in California and amassing enough leverage to advance his agenda at the convention in July — or even wrest the nomination from her.

Advisers to Mr. Sanders said on Wednesday that he was newly resolved to remain in the race, seeing an aggressive campaign as his only chance to pressure Democrats into making fundamental changes to how presidential primaries and debates are held in the future. They said he also held out hope of capitalizing on any late stumbles by Mrs. Clinton or any damage to her candidacy, whether by scandal or by the presumptive Republican nominee, Donald J. Trump.

After sounding subdued if not downbeat about the race for weeks, Mr. Sanders resumed a combative posture against Mrs. Clinton, demanding on Wednesday that she debate him before the June 7 primary in California and highlighting anew what he asserted were her weaknesses against Mr. Trump.

While Mr. Sanders says he does not want Mr. Trump to win in November, his advisers and allies say he is willing to do some harm to Mrs. Clinton in the shorter term if it means he can capture a majority of the 475 pledged delegates at stake in California and arrive at the Philadelphia convention with maximum political power.

Tad Devine, a senior adviser to Mr. Sanders, said the campaign did not think its attacks would help Mr. Trump in the long run, but added that the senator’s team was “not thinking about” the possibility that they could help derail Mrs. Clinton from becoming the first woman elected president.

There you go folks.

This is who people have been defending and arguing should stay in the race until the end.

Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat.

Bernie Sanders does not care about helping the Democratic party, or changing it for the better.

Bernie Sanders just wants to win.

And failing that leave a path of destruction in his wake.

Yes, 4:04 Sanders represents many Democrats that were shoved out and shunned by the party--especially since the Democratic Leadership Council and the Clintons reminted it as "New" Democrats in the 1980s. The party is now to the right of Eisenhower Republicans. Sanders also represents many young and first-time voters. He has a responsibility to keep fighting for voters who strongly disagree with policies foisted on the country for 20 plus years by the Clintons and establishment Democrats and their subservience to the moneyed interests who fund them; policies that have wrecked the US economy and increased economic injustice worldwide, not to mention increasing war and terrorism by following neoconservative policies.

Hilary was picked by establishment Dems because she is a political insider who will conduct business as usual in Washington--a cozy arrangement for the elites.
(Elizabeth Warren has spoken about Hilary's sellout to the banking sector.)
Sanders is raising valid issues that Hilary ignored and will ignore because her policies and affiliates are going to serve the wealthy not the working and middle class--no matter what her speeches say.

Hilary is a proven liar, an inept politician and was a lousy Secretary of State--her unfavorability rating is stratospheric. She is arguably one of the main reasons Bernie Sanders is doing so well. If she had a better record and didn't serve Wall St. bankers and the Washington war machine, and if her handlers weren't so arrogant, they might look in the mirror and see why millions of Democrats and others want Sanders not Hilary.

That she should announce to voters now that they should not vote for Sanders because she is already chosen reveals an arrogant disdain for both democracy and the voter.

(A reminder to the Democratic leadership and the punditocracy: the party IS the voters. Neither Hilary, the backroom dealers, the “chosen” superdelegates, nor the candidates are the Democratic party.)

To quote Yogi Berra, "It ain't over til it's over"

I find it funny that since before March Hillary's camp has been saying "Bernie can't win, he's not a threat, we're not worried about Bernie..." and at the same time in an apparent panic with regard to Bernie Sanders.

We're not even at the convention yet. Let him go until then. Only political junkies are really paying attention to the campaigns right now, so the only way that Bernie can hurt Clinton is by continually showing what a weak candidate she really is.

      Yup.
And another nugget from I believe it was Yogi:
"It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings"
      As in the FBI interview.

"It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings." is not by Yogi. The first recorded use appeared in the Dallas Morning News on 10 March 1976, by journalist Ralph Carpenter.

I said "I believe" because several people have been credited with coining the phrase, including Yogi.
After a quick google,I came up with this at the top of the page:
"The correct expression is that; "the opera ain't over till the fat lady sings." It is said that this expression was first used by a sports writer, Dan Cook, writing for the San Antonio News-Express, Texas, round about the year 1976."

      4:08 PM,

If Hillary Clinton is so "weak," then why isn't Bernie Sanders winning? Bernie Sanders still isn't a threat to Hillary Clinton winning the nomination. Hillary Clinton is going to be the democratic nominee. Deal with it.

Democrats aren't worried about Bernie Sanders winning the nomination. They're concerned that when Bernie Sanders doesn't get his way (win the nomination)he'll throw a giant tantrum and encourage the Bernie-bots to riot on live t.v., at the convention, instead of calling for party unity.

There's no way he'll say anything more in another debate. I'm all for debates. But he won't get anything out of another one. Trump benefited when the debates stopped. Bernie has too.

It sounds like he wants to Burn the Party down. Sanders is essentially trying to hijack the Democratic Party and if he is unsuccessful, he is going to do whatever he can to ensure that no Democrat is successful.

I had thought that Bernie would fight the good fight all the way to California and then suspend his campaign as Clinton did the day after California in 2008. But Bernie is not going to go quietly into the night. He wants to take the whole party down with him.

Perhaps we have some hope here. The comments on Talking Points Memo about Sanders campaign manager going on TV and saying that no one had the right to feel threatened are great. I read all the comments and not one was in support of Bernie. Indeed, there were many former Bernie supporters saying they support him no more.

It would be good if the voters of the upcoming primary states do us proud and not vote for Sanders. That might send the message that needs to be sent. That and no more contributions to the Sanders campaign.

Then we get back to hoping that the Dems take the White House, the Senate and at least shrink the Republican majority in the House.

Earlier this month, Sanders argued that Clinton's bad judgment called into question her qualifications for the presidency. Trump expressed admiration for that line of attack.

"He said some things about her that are actually surprising. That essentially she has no right to even be running. She's got bad judgment," the GOP front-runner continued. "When he said bad judgment, I said 'sound bite!' But Bernie has been treated very badly by the Democrats and Democratic Party. Frankly, he should run as an independent, I think."

I think 6:21 means Trump and Sanders have teamed up figuratively, in that it appears they have the same goals -- destroy Hillary's chances of becoming the first female President.
It's really past time for Sanders' supporters to consider what a race between Sanders and Trump would look like. Trump would demolish him with charges of "Socialist, Communist, he wants to take your money and give it to the poor" etc. Didn't you folks see that happening to Obama and the Dems in trying to bring in the ACA (remember "death panels" and "Obama wants you to start paying for your neighbour's healthcare").
Instead of thinking in the here and now, please, please think about not only after the Conventions (if Bernie becomes the nominee) but also after President Trump's fascist regime begins, and he nominates a Supreme Court justice who will side with the 4 rightwingers and demolish all the social progress that has been made over many long years.

It is exactly why Bernie is holding on, stronger than the DNC counted on, and while Hillary has held on, you are kidding yourself if it didn't have everything to do with being pre-ordained with a big DNC kiss and her superdelegates in her pocket.

Watch out in November if it is Hillary Vs Trump. My money is on the peoples candidate.

You bet your ass, it's Hillary Clinton's turn! She earned it, unlike Bernie Sanders, who wants the super-delegates to ignore the will of millions of democratic voters, and hand him the nomination!

      10:24 PM,

Shut the fuck up! Who is lacking "representation?" White people? Give me a fucking break!

Donald Trump isn't the "people's candidate," he the "WHITE PEOPLE'S" candidate! Both Bernie Sanders' and Donald Trump's candidacies are being fueled by angry, white men, who think they're entitled!

The majority of Donald Trump supporters are stone-cold, fucking racists! Donald Trump "annihilated" the rest of the republican field, because there is no down-side to being a racist, Muslim-hating, misogynist, in the republican primary! The republican primary, and the general election aren't the same, dumb-ass!

There aren't enough angry, white men to put Donald Trump in the White House, it's not fucking 1980, anymore!

The only reason Bernie Sanders is still "holding on" is because the democrats don't have a "winner take all" primary, like the republicans. If they did, Hillary Clinton would have put him away last month. And, "holing on" isn't good enough, because he's still going to lose! It's over!

Watch out in November if it's Hillary v.s. Trump. My money is on the white, brown, black, women, LQBT, Muslim, etc. people's candidate!

  16. (My Canadian comment)The popularity of Sanders and Clinton as individuals is not what is important. It is their ideas and their vision for the future of the Democratic party that deserves the real soul searching. Is the Democratic party a party of the left or of the right,of FDR or of Reagan, of Keynesian or of Libertarian economic policies? Before there can be unity in the party, and regardless of the chosen presidential candidate, Democrats need to decide what they believe in.

"Over $300,000 that was transferred from Hillary Clinton’s joint fundraising venture to state Democratic parties is unaccounted for, a review of campaign finance records by the Washington Free Beacon has found.

The Hillary Victory Fund, a joint fundraising effort between the Hillary Clinton campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and 32 state parties, allows Clinton mega-donors to cut much larger checks than what can be contributed directly to candidates or committees by law. A single donor can give upwards of $700,000 to the fund.

According to Hillary Clinton’s website, the first $2,700 from an individual is allocated to Clinton’s campaign, while the next $33,400 is given to the Democratic National Committee. Any additional amount is then supposed to be split equally among the Democratic state parties."

"Democrats still can’t decide if Hillary Clinton is electable — in fact, her support has diminished as the primary season has dragged on. There are fears of a party revolt by Bernie Sanders supporters at the July convention, and there’s a huge rift forming between two of its major factions. Plus, polls show that the supposedly can’t-possibly-win Donald Trump is now close to Clinton. The latest evidence of trouble came with Tuesday’s primaries, where Clinton beat Sanders by a mere half a percentage point — 46.8% to 46.3% — in Kentucky, a state where in 2008 Clinton walloped Obama by 66% to 30%. Sanders beat her in Oregon by an almost 10-point margin.
Of the past 20 primaries, Clinton has won only eight to Sanders’ 12. And as the accompanying chart shows, her vote average has dropped sharply in the second half of the primary season, while Sanders’ climbed. As a result, her lead among delegates today is actually narrower than it was back in late March.
To make matters worse, 150 “superdelegates” — who can pick their candidate independent of any primary — could put Clinton over the top right now by announcing their support for her but, as Bloomberg reports, they are still refusing to do so."

It wasn’t long before things took a turn. At 9:30, a full half hour before registration closed, Lange read the results of ballots that had been passed out to early arriving conventioneers regarding temporary rules for the convention, rules which would discount the results of the county convention (the second tier of the caucus process, where Bernie had won more delegates), rules which would require that all votes at the convention be decided by voice alone, and which ruled that the decision of the chairperson would be final. These temporary rules had passed by flying colors, which did not sit well with the Bernie delegates, many of whom had not been given ballots. Suddenly half the people of the room were on their feet, shouting “No!!!!” My son and I jumped to our feet as well, added our voices to the chorus. It felt good, all those voices of resistance vibrating through my body. I started to feel less like a cloud. I felt myself drop back into my body, surrounded by all these bodies yelling “No!”, feeling alive inside my skin.*

WHAT WE ARE LED TO BELIEVE:
Sanders is staying in the Democratic race to pressure the party to change its primaries in the future.

    QUESTION:
Sanders knows he's unable to win the nomination and knows the longer he stays in the race he is causing irreparable harm and damage to Secretary Clinton and to the Democratic Party in winning the presidency. So why stay in the race?

Why can't Sanders admit he can't win, suspend his campaign and help elect Sec Clinton. Afterwards Sanders can share what he learned about primaries with the Democratic Party and help make changes after the election?

All through his narrow political career Bernie Sanders has been a big fish in the very little pond called Vermont. He likes the spotlight he's been in this past year; gee, it even meant the private plane family vacation weekend in Rome. “Unfortunately, he’s choosing the path of burning down the house,” the ally said. “He continues with character attacks against Hillary. He continues with calling the Democratic Party corrupt, and he not only risks damaging Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party but he's currently doing it."

Clinton allies say Sanders is only piling on by insisting that Clinton join him for a debate ahead of California's primary on June 7. The debate would be aired on Fox News, a network Clinton supporters see as fanning the flames between Sanders supporters and the former secretary of State.

A second ally said Sanders should stop criticizing the party and the front-runner’s supporters even if he continues to fight for delegates through the six state contests on June 7.

“It’s inappropriate at this point, and I hate to tell him, it’s not helping him in the long run. It’s only hurting her,” the ally said. “The Republican Party has their nominee, and he’s free and clear of his Republican opponents and is taking shots at Hillary. We need to move closer to that process, and he’s not helping."

The four rallies, given permits Wednesday night, bring the total to five for approved rallies and marches during what is expected to be a bustling week of political activity in Center City and South Philadelphia. The convention officially runs July 25-28, but two of the five approved rallies and marches of more than 7,000 activists will be held July 24 -- the day more than 4,000 delegates arrive from across the country.
