Did you ever hear the one about the old Jewish Socialist who walked into the wrong party?

Courtesy of CNN:

It's been a while since Bernie Sanders has attended the weekly Senate Democratic lunch in the Capitol.

So long, in fact, he forgot where to go Tuesday and headed -- with his large Secret Service detail in tow -- into the Republican lunch instead.

He quickly realized his mistake and turned around. When a reporter noted, "wrong room," Sanders replied, "Thank you" as he made his way to the Democratic gathering.

It could happen to anybody. Well not really but I'm trying to be nice.

In other news it appears that Sander's attempt to hire new interns for his return to the Senate was met with some rather pointed criticisms:
In even other news it appears that Sanders will get that prime time speaking slot at the DNC conventions. Well maybe:

Former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton’s still-to-be-selected running mate are also expected to have prime-time slots. First lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden could also make the case for Clinton, and Bernie Sanders is expected to deliver a prime-time speech if he concedes before July 25.

"If he concedes before July 25."

Oops.

Well if he cannot bring himself to do the right thing before the 25th, I understand that there is a fart-in that would be thrilled to have his participation.

That's if he can find his way there without getting lost.

This is just another smear of Bernie Sanders. Sanders doesn't set the pay rate for Senate interns.

Senate interns are federal employees. All federal employees' pay is set by the Office of Management and Budget's General Schedule Pay Scale.

Unbelievable how ignorant you Clinton-ites are about your government that you fall for this bullshit.

Absolutely untrue, 8:57, and it's hilarious but unsurprising that you would lecture others for "ignorance" when you're flat-out wrong -- or simply lying.

Senators have total leeway over whether or how much to pay their interns. Many don't pay at all -- but, before you start braying that Sanders should be applauded for paying SOMETHING, consider the optics of his making a $15/hr minimum wage a centerpiece of his campaign, then blithely stiffing college kids. What a douche move.

Actually, Bernie is free to pay his interns more, it all comes out of their Senators allowance. And considering it's DC and the cost of living, the need for short term housing, I would think you would need a minimum of $20 to scrape by.

      Delete
    8. 66gardeners3:21 PM

To suggest that Bernie Sanders could/would not personally see to it that his interns make at least $15/hour makes you look pretty stupid.

This when you consider Sanders well publicized presidential platform issues in a campaign in which he is still engaged with Secret Service detail for more than a month. Indeed, Sanders (he says) is going to the convention as a candidate to make sure the issues so important to him get put into the DNC platform.

So to say this is a big nothing burger is really undignified

The company I work for sets the salaries and pay. Minimum wage is like the 55 mph speed limit.... a suggestion.

Poor Bernie, it happens to everyone, especially a senator who doesn't know his way around those huuuuuge buildings.

8:57/9:20, someone else provided the link to a story explaining how congressfolk decide if and what to pay their interns. You will find other sources confirming this fact if you simply Google it.

Of course he's getting a prime time speaking spot. Clinton supporters' insistence he won't is laughable and obtuse.

Sanders is getting more influential and relevant not less. In the Quinnipiace pool that showed Clinton and Trump tied in OH & PA, Sanders led Trump by 10 points and 7 points. This is probably giving the Clinton team and the DNC loose bowels.

Reality check, 8:44, Bernie Sanders was NEVER vetted, was never spoken ill of by the Republicans in the hopes that the Dems would nominate Bernie. If he were the nominee he would be another Eugene McCarthy but you're too young to remember that shellacking the Dems took by picking the "pure" candidate with the correct ideology. Your dreaming and thank God we'll never get to test your idea of running the guy that is a "winner" according to the polls. He would drop like a lead balloon before the campaign got started and I think you know it. Most of his ideas are too pie-in-the-sky. If we can't even get good gun legislation with 90% Americans approving of that then how the hell are you going to get free college tuition for everyone and how do we pay for that? Ridiculous!!!

President Obama and VP Biden have done such a better job than McCain ever could or would have!

McCain's pissed too that President Obama's approval rating is above 50%. Remember, the Republicans (starting w/McConnell from Kentucky) are trying to make the world think President Obama was never POTUS for two terms!

What jokers! A wonderful black man, who is part white, that has done an outstanding job in spite of all the obstructions Republicans put in front of him!

I give all the Republicans in Congress the big finger. They are going down in November - if they are up for reelection! They've done NOTHING for America - absolutely NOTHING except spread hate, fear, racism, want more wars, block funding in Congress for things President Obama wanted to accomplish throughout the country for the benefit of Americans and on and on!

The accusations he was a "deadbeat" or "chose" not to support Levi are unsubstantiated and based on not finding a custody/support case in the Vermont court records. Levi says he had a good relationship with Sanders and Sanders had an informal custody agreement with his mother. His mother has declined interviews. They're the only people who could say for certain. So the deadbeat label is just a smear.

Since Levi was raised on the public tax dollar anything under the table to the mother would have been illegal. Bernie was a deadbeat and Levi Sanders only saw your hero 2 or 3 times before reaching adulthood. Fact, Bernard Sanders was a deadbeat father, or should we say sperm donor. And it's also a fact that he only got his gf knocked up to avoid service to his country. Too bad he was married at the time he knocked up his gf, because that FACT doesn't speak well to his character either.

Sanders rented a small brick duplex at 295 1/2 Maple Street that was filled with not much furniture and not much food in the fridge but stacks of checked-out library books and scribbled-on legal pads. His son, who called his father “Bernard,” had an upstairs bedroom.
“Pretty sparse,” Gene Bergman, an old friend, said about the apartment.
“Stark and dark,” said Darcy Troville, a fellow Liberty Unionite who lived around the corner and shared with Sanders homemade jellies and jams.
“The electricity was turned off a lot,” Barnett said. “I remember him running an extension cord down to the basement. He couldn’t pay his bills.”
He worked some as a carpenter, although “he was a shitty carpenter,” Bloch told me. “His carpentry,” Morrisseau said, “was not going to support him, and didn’t.”
He worked as a freelance writer, putting intermittent pieces in the low-budget Vermont Freeman, a Burlington alternative weekly called the Vanguard Press and a glossy, state-supported magazine called Vermont Life.
The standards of the Freeman were not strict. “It was always fun to see what came through the mail,” said Jennifer Kochman, one of the editors when Sanders was a contributor. The recent uncovering of something he wrote in an issue from February 1972 created a burst of news coverage. It was a jumbled rant about gender roles that mentioned masturbation and rape, but even in Sanders’ commentary on the sexes he reverted to his central theme of injustice: “Slavishness on one hand breeds pigness on the other hand. Pigness on one hand breeds slavishness on the other.”
His writing wasn’t a living. The Vanguard paid as little as the rest. “It would’ve been not more than 50 bucks,” said Greg Guma, a former editor. Vermont Life? “Our rate was 10 cents a word,” said Brian Vachon, a former editor.

      http://www.snopes.com/bernie-sanders-loser-meme/

It is sad how many people continue parrot disproven smears. It's like you don't care about the truth as long as it might hurt Sanders.

The one about Levi only saw Sanders 2 or 3 times is pure, debunked horseshit.

It's been widely reported that Sanders and Mott shared custody of Levi. So widely reported, in fact, that I believe you know you're spreading falsehoods but don't care.

      See the politico article above:
      "Levi had a room upstairs."

"Martha Abbott, a founder of the Liberty Union party and longtime political ally, recalls that Sanders was devoted to Levi. He had partial custody of his son, and as a single father he struggled to make ends meet — he wrote freelance articles for publications and was for a time unemployed.

“He was very committed to being a parent,” Abbott said. “And he scraped together the money to take care of him.”

Sanders was very employable at the time, she says, but for a few years “he was trying out different things.”

“He wanted to do more writing, and I think he wanted to be there for Levi and spend time with him, and there were some choices involved,” Abbott said."

You should hang your head in shame, @Gryphen.

You're now in bed with Anti-Semites, and using the tactics of FOX news.

Hope you're proud of yourself when you look back at this one day.

      Is he not a Socialist?

What about the title is in any way anti-Semitic?

I know you Sanders supporters are a little sensitive, but let's keep things in perspective shall we?

5:03 - Sorry, it was just not politically correct and as the blogger, Gryph should pay more attention to that. And if you don't like political correctness then you should go join the Trumpeters. I'm not a "bernie bro" whoever they are.. just a middle aged woman who cares about how people speak to and of each other. After being a regular reader of this blog for a long time, I gave it up for a while when the Palins got boring and recently got back on, so I have missed the apparent insult slinging from "Bernie Bros". All I can say is most of the invective now seems to come from you guys.

And in terms of "hate," are you one of the Bernie people who called me a whore, a shill, a bitch, a c#nt, a dipsh#t, stupid, dumb, etc. for supporting HRC here in the comments this year? If not, I thank you.

Are you one of the Clinton people who called me "Bro", asshole, stupid, for supporting Sanders? If not, thanks.

Of course Clinton supporters want Sanders to concede. Duh. But he doesn't have to. Just because Clinton did in 2008 doesn't make it a requirement, a tradition. Clinton conceded so long before the convention in 2008 because her platform was almost identical to Obama's and she wanted to protect her political chances in 2016. Sanders' situation is completely different from Clinton's.

He is going on the campaign trail for HRC in the fall.
      http://www.politico.com/story/2016/06/hillary-clinton-millennials-young-voters-224507#ixzz4CKbrFtM8

He has to officially concede by July 25 in order to speak at the convention:
      http://www.politico.com/story/2016/06/clinton-democratic-convention-hamilton-224583

And he did start his concession tour today on C-SPAN:
      https://twitter.com/cspan/status/745670852851568641

He's SLOWLY doing it. By July 25, he will do it. Or he won't have a speaking slot.

As a longtime reader (and supporter)of the Immoral Minority and as a Jew, that headline is not cool. Not cool at all.

Besides the fact that we Jews don't claim Bernie. He married outside of the faith and has taken no interest in the Jewish community or Jewish charities.

    Not cool, Gryphen.

House Democrats Stage sit-In On House Floor Over Gun Bills
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/house-democrats-gun-bills-sit-in_us_576ab443e4b0c0252e77ecb8

John Oliver had a great segment on how the NRA keeps their members ready to go and active - there are only a few thousand !!! I wish I knew how to start a non-profit and had money for lawyers and paperwork - would start one and do the same as the NRA but for sane gun control laws ! I bet the membership would be triple -- just make it easy for members to keep up a constant and consistant CALLING of their representatives so their voices are heard (the way the NRA does)

  26. In the past, my opinion of Bernie Sanders was favorable. My knowledge of him was limited to interviews with Rachel Maddow and other intelligent liberals.

During his campaign, he revealed his weaknesses. Even worse, he didn't seem to recognize his shortcomings or try to correct them. He's a one-trick pony, and he devolved from an apparently sincere and honest advocate for the common man, to a slightly-deranged fanatic, disheveled in appearance, pointlessly flapping a limp index finger, and clueless on essential issues such as foreign policy.

I read today on HuffPo that he has finally acknowledged that he won't be the Democratic candidate, a fact that has been apparent to most people for some time.

Bernie has admitted he won't be the nominee. He should have immediately conceded. Now about 40% of his crazy supporters have said they will vote completely against their principles (if they have any) and vote for Trump or the libertarian. Whut??? Dumbasses should be voting for an independent, Green Party, Hillary, or no one if they had ANY principles. Shows how low info they are.
