Leave it to the Canadians to show us how we should respect our President.

Watching all of Prime Minister Trudeau's remarks as he introduces the President is an inspiration, but I would advice that you have your tissues handy around the 7:18 mark.

"These are the kinds of stories that I will think of when I consider President Obama's time in office. History books will record the signature policies. But I will remember, what I hope we all will remember, are the lessons you taught us, not by executive order, but by example. That we are accountable....(Hold for extended applause) The lesson that we are accountable to each other. That we are stronger together than we are apart. That we are more alike than we are different. And that there is a place in this world for politics that is hopeful, hard working, ambitious, and kind. Mr. President in your last state of the union address you said of the American people that they are clear eyed, big hearted, undaunted by challenge, and optimistic. I can think of no better way to describe their leader."

Hearing that made me incredibly proud. Incredibly proud.

And the Prime Minister was clearly not the only Canadian who had such a high opinion of our President, just get a load of the response in that chamber after the President finished up his remarks.

Gonna need more tissue here.

I've always thought Canada was what America could have been if only we'd get rid of our racism, had saner gun laws, if our conservatives were slightly right of center instead of a bunch of extremist nut jobs, and if we stopped feeling like we have to meddle in the affairs of every other country on earth. Alas, but I'm beginning to doubt if we'll ever get there.

Thanks to all our Canadian friends for continuing to inspire us and for the wonderful example you, your PM and parliament set for us. I hope you all realize just how lucky you are.

We used to live close to the Canadian border (near Windsor ONT) and always enjoyed our visits to Canada. We went to the theatre in Stratford, we watched Ontario's public television, and listened to
Canadian radio. I miss those days much as I love where we live now.

Hillary could become Barack 2.0. Maybe with Bernie Bro pressure and a Democratic majority in Congress, Hills will turn out to be more progressive than we thought. Everyone lauds Obama for the long game maybe Hillary has one too.

“One more time ‘fore I go,” Obama raps in the wonderfully diced-and-spliced viral video that almost seems to reference his limited time left in the White House.

That was such a beautiful introduction by Prime Minister Trudeau. And I loved the "four more years." In our hearts, many of us feel the same thing. But I think that Hillary Clinton will be a worthy follower.

  4. Thank you Canadians for showing our president the reverence he has earned and is too little and infrequently accorded by the people who owe him the most. I do not in the least mind you shaming us. This is exactly what the orange freak craves and thinks he's due just by demanding it. It doesn't work that way.

Cheer up. With Hillary we get Bill back too, and he didn't do the 90s too bad himself. Surely as well, Obama - only in his mid-50s - will be eager to assist his former Secretary of State in any capacity he can. Despite the ugly noise of this summer, there is cause for continued optimism.

That was absolutely beautiful what PM Justin Trudeau said. It brought me to tears.
What a good man. Canada is so blessed to have PM Justin Trudeau. I have never heard any American say such touching words about our President Obama.
We are so blessed to have President Barack Obama, he also is a good man, and I am so emotional right because he is coming to the end of his terms in office.

I am in tears right now. President Obama is such a good man, and he has worked so hard for the American people. And has been treated so terribly by many Americans. Seeing Canada treating our President Obama so wonderfully has brought me to tears of joy,
Thank you to PM Trudeau, who said what many of us fell about our President Obama.

It's really wonderful to see President Obama receive such appreciation from Canada. He so deserves it. Made me cry too.

I too cried--as a Canadian--because he has deserved such treatment for the entirety of his two terms as President.

  10. Obama is the true statesman and no one can take that away from him or our country's heritage. We are so lucky to have this wonderful leader in our midst.
Canadians have my admiration for their genuine warmth and spirit.

The President received many standing ovations throughout his speech - from ALL Members of the House of Commons (Liberal AND Conservative) as well as the many guests who attended. The House recessed earlier this month and nearly all MPs returned from their home constituencies to hear the President.
As many of us have said "Americans (not all, but too many) just don't recognize goodness and greatness -- until they don't have it anymore". Let's hope President Obama continues to use his powerful personality and his many assets to benefit all of us - the world needs him.

Trump got a field full of golf balls emblazoned with swastikas, protest flags and a chorus of "BOOs"
President Obama gets a warm welcome, many standing ovations, a gracious introduction speech and the chants of FOUR MORE YEARS!
What a difference in the reception between an orange faced buffoon and a total gentleman.
It appears that Obama can also easily serve as Prime Minister in Canada where he would win an election in landslide.... But it's my guess with the love the Canadian people have of him, they would forego an election and simply appoint him to be their Prime Minister.

Many of us here in Canada--myself included--admire your Mr. Obama. He is your rock star, and finally, we have one of our own once again. I cannot wait for Mr. Trudeau and Mrs. Clinton to meet in the near future as figureheads of progressivism.

What a fantastic introduction! Troudeau was genuine and thoughtful, and it's the same in other countries as well. I watch RAI, the italian station, and when they speak of our POTUS and First Family, it's with genuine respect and with honor and eloquence. They did a special on Malia being accepted to Harvard and their plans on sticking around so Sasha can matriculate with her friends. There aren't enough superlatives for this president.

I watched and was impressed by all three leaders. This week I also watched Cameron, after the Brexit vote, talking to Parliament. When you watch other leaders you can't believe that millions of people here in the US re going to vote for slop, for Trump. It's mind-blowing. On Chris Hayes' show tonight he played some old footage of a younger Trump being so smarmy when at a Congressional inquiry and talking over the congressman. He was a fucking no-nothing punk then and still is, only fatter and very dated looking. I can't wait to see the October debates.

President Obama is well liked and respected in Canada. I'm so glad our Prime Minister gave him such a glowing introduction and the House of Commons welcomed him warmly. It was well deserved. Truly a great man.

it's too bad, Mr. Obama could not do what Justin does, dump the rcmp and go for a paddle down the Ottawa river in his dad's old canoe, two guy's on the river, working out the worlds problems

I would not be surprised if President Obama joins our Prime Minister for a canoe trip and even some white-water rafting when his term is over. They seem to have a genuine connection and the same world vision especially on the issue of climate change. Who best to discuss world affairs with?

did you notice, that in our house, your President did not need 20 bodyguards around him? That's how we roll, everyone there on the floor of the house would have his back

  20. I got goose bumps and cried like a baby watching that the other day. I love our president so much, and for so many things.

It saddens me that the Republicans have treated him so badly. He doesn't deserve their wrath.

I also have to mention my great love for Joe Biden. What a team they made.

I want "FOUR MORE YEARS!", too.

Too bad Biden can't run for president with Obama as his VP. Wouldn't that be a wonderful hoot?

How I wish they were personal friends of mine. I would sit for hours listening to them talk. (And, I'd shower them with hugs & kises, too!)

    :sigh:
