Just a reminder that Bernie Sanders still has Secret Service protection, which is costing taxpayers $40,000 a day. Why?

2 million dollars to protect a guy who is NEVER going to be the Democratic nominee, simply because he refuses to end his campaign?

Oh I am dying to hear how the Bernie-bots are going to defend this.

I'm pretty sure Bernie does it so that his supporters get their voices heard at the democratic convention.

You know... where they agree on the party platform & stuff.

The thing about politics is that there is power even for minority positions... if you know how to play your cards. Like Obama, Bernie is about hope and change, not just being President. He's about his ideas, not his own personal glory.

I find that admirable. U think all three of them are, actually.

Just as Barack Obama received early SS protection due to threats against him so has Bernie. If it was okay for Obama it's okay for Bernie. Once a person puts himself out there in that capacity there are always those who wish to do him harm.

Even if he were to concede today, he still deserves protection from the crazies who are stirred up by media outlets and private bloggers that like to stir up hate against him.

Our government certainly wastes a lot more money on less important things.

All candidates are entitled to protection until the party has an official nominee. Normally, party loyalty combined with a lack of insane narcissism will cause a losing candidate to get his bloated carcass off the road once his dreams of glory have definitively died, thus leaving tens of thousands of taxpayer bucks per day unspent. However, this candidate isn't normal in any way, so to the convention his SS agents will go.

Once he concedes? He "deserves" as much protection as he cares to pay for himself. Maybe he can use some of the $10 million he insisted his campaign save for him (and yes, it's legal for him to spend this on himself). Or perhaps he has a personal nest egg left over from paying 13.5 percent in taxes while calling on others in his income group to pay much more.

Sanders: FBI decision won't affect my campaign (Snuff Sniff)

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says the FBI’s actions regarding Hillary Clinton have no bearing on his presidential campaign....

Sanders, meanwhile, has repeatedly refused to concede the Democratic presidential nomination to Clinton. He insists his campaign will continue to the Democratic National Convention later this month in Philadelphia.

Still, Sanders has said he plans to vote for Clinton and acknowledged in an interview last month that he is unlikely to be the nominee.

Repeating the same accounting lesson from a couple of weeks ago:

Despite being able to assign cost/hr of agents and travel cost for Bernie's Secret Service detail, ending Bernie's protection will not result in $40,000 a day savings to the taxpayers. That's because no additional money was requested and allocated to the Secret Service budget to hire agents to protect Bernie, buy equipment to protect Bernie, travel with Bernie. No one was hired to protect Bernie. No one will be fired when his protection ends. The agents and equipment will be reassigned. Therefore, taxpayers won't save a dime. "It's a farce that "no one is above the law" and my heart goes out to all who've been unjustly accused and destroyed over much lesser crimes than Hillary's."

How about billionaire rapists? Are they above the law?

  32. Honestly this blog has become more like a World Net Daily High School chatterbox. Thanks everyone for the polite discourse and respect that at least as Progressives we thought we believed in.

And exactly when did you start reading here? Many of us have enjoyed this blog for years. The recent onslaught of right-wing and Bernie-bot commenting has been unfortunate for all of us.

I have every confidence he'll do the right thing and pay it all back. Say what you want about Bernie, HE knows the right thing to do would be to pay it all back, every dime. Along with his dropping in the Vatican (just happened to be in the neighborhood, and Jane suggested we come here for some conversation and free espresso).

The Secret Service is funded to provide security details for candidates. if you don't like it, petition your government instead of defaming Bernie.

But let's get back to the real news of the day after this attempt to distract:

Unless James Comey is himself a liar, Hillary has been blatantly lying to the public about several key issues about her email for over a year.

Well, in all fairness Comey said as much; he left it hanging saying that she and her staff were careless, reckless and ignorant of the implications of the technology they were using.

I think most of us can read between the lines.

It's no accident that the Air Force One Hillary Clinton Tour commenced today, as both Obama and Hillary know that although she was not indicted, the whole incident cast doubt on her suitability to serve in this new and complicated technological frontier. It's also no accident that this news was broken on the first workday after a long holiday weekend. These people know how to work it.

Well, in all fairness, the FBI never said a peep when the Bush administration illegally destroyed tens of thousands (minimally) of documents in its last days. Who knows what they destroyed throughout those disastrous 8 years.

And, in all fairness, what Hillary Clinton did was just what Colin Powell and C. Rice and lots of others did. None of those people got dragged through the mud.

I applaud @HillaryClinton for the very bold initiative she has just brought forth for the financing of higher education.

Bitch don't get too excited that Hillary threw you a bone. She did it to get your followers votes even though she knows Congress won't pass it.

  37. Even he if doesn't become the Democratic nominee, he can still run for President. He still should get the same protection as the other canidates. I can't understand why this riles you up so much.
