NRA members wondering why Wayne LaPierre issues statement of support for police officers shot in Dallas but not a word for the black man killed by police for possessing a legal firearm.

Courtesy of Fusion:

Absent from the statement is any mention of the protest where the shooting occurred or the reason for that protest: the killing by police of two black men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Castile was reportedly a licensed gun owner. His disclosure to the officer that he had a gun in the car led the officer to shoot him, according to Castile’s girlfriend who made a Facebook Live video shortly after the shooting.

It’s exactly the sort of case that you might imagine would outrage the NRA, an organization dedicated to protecting the Second Amendment right to bear arms. But despite rushing to mourn the death of police in Dallas, the NRA was silent in the days after Castile’s death.

That hypocrisy did not fail to catch the attention of some NRA members who took to Twitter and Facebook to express their outrage.

Uh oh, it appears that certain NRA folks are starting to notice a rather unsettling pattern.

Gee, it certainly took them long enough.

After LaPierre's response to Sandy Hook, I certainly wasn't expecting anything profound. I'm surprised he said anything at all.

They also didn't comment when Tamir Rice and John Crawford were shot by police as soon as they arrived for openly carrying guns....in an open carry state. (Both guns actually being an air soft guns.) So, I'm not holding my breath.

I wonder if Wayne LaPierre would be such a fierce advocate for gun rights if someone came up behind him and shot him in the neck unprovoked? I think the answer would be "no".

Maybe some of these yahoo's will wake up. The NRA is not for gunow owners, it is for gun manufacturers. As long as the gun owners run scared into a gun shop every time there is a massacre, the NRA and it's corporate masters are happy. Gun owners getting g shot while black and exercising their 2nd amendment rights... not so much.
They should know that if the victim had been white henvelope would be alive right now.

My dad is an NRA member. We got into a "discussion" on my last visit because he said the NRA exists to support legal gun owners and takes no money from manufacturers, thus doesn't benefit from the sale of firearms and has no political agenda other than defending gun ownership. This is a man with a master's degree in engineering -- not a stupid person at all-- but 25 years of a steady diet of Rush Limbaugh has eroded whatever critical thinking skills he may once have had.

And the NRA has done such a damn amazing job of indoctrinating its followers that any time I've asked any of the responsible gun owners I know (and I know several), "What's your solution to the problem of toddlers getting hold of guns and shooting each other?" the response is an immediate, hysterical, "STOP TRYING TO TAKE MY GUNS, YOU COMMIE LIBRUL!"

The wake of Reaganite, trickle down economic Conservatiism & the rise of Trumpian National Populism. A fascinating conundrum that is the GOP. Like a punch drunk boxer, it staggers around the ring unable to focus on the needs of the USA & its paramount objective is not to get knocked out before the end of the round in November. Let's give them each a gun and tell them to form a circle and kill the real American enemy.

For the "saint" he is held up to be, Reagan was a dumbass and did as his corporate masters told him, much like Dubya.

I was in my 20s at the time, still a little wet behind the ears, and even I knew that "trickle down" was stupid. Overlords sharing the wealth?! Yeah, right.

The above unholy mixture of trickle/Trump is bad enough, but we're also dealing with an evangelical invasion of the Republican party that has corrupted what politics and government should even be about.

The religious far right is full of fanatical theocrats like Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, MIke Huckabee, and a slew of others who will do anything they can to force the USA to create laws based on their mythology.

Barry Goldwater saw this clearly when it was in its infancy, and said this:

      Quote:
“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”

The evangelicals have gone so far overboard, that you had Ted Cruz cooking bacon on the barrel of a rifle to prove his bona fides with the NRA and gun crowd.

Since the Orange Asshole recently met with 300 evangelical pastor/preachers, he's now supposedly a "born again baby Christian", according to colossal bigot Charles Dobson.

      http://www.npr.org/2016/06/21/482981933/donald-trump-meets-evangelical-leaders-in-new-york

It's now come to the point where the Christian Taliban leadership has endorsed a 3 time married adulterer, who is accused of child rape, is a classic sociopath, and a man who is patently and obviously an immoral bastard.

The conflation of evangelicals, NRA sycophants, white power crowed, and a viciously racist ignorant candidate like Trump for President does not bode well for our nation, or the world.

I need a 3rd-grade-level rebuttal to the argument that the shootings were all staged in order to pass laws and divide the country.

The relative needing the rebuttal does not know exactly who is putting forth all this effort for those reasons (sigh).

    READ THE HISTORY>
"Dr. Carl T. Bogus wrote for the University of California Law Review in 1998, “The Georgia statutes required patrols, under the direction of commissioned militia officers, to examine every plantation each month and authorized them to search ‘all Negro Houses for offensive Weapons and Ammunition’ and to apprehend and give twenty lashes to any slave found outside plantation grounds.”

It’s the answer to the question raised by the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio in Django Unchained when he asks, “Why don’t they just rise up and kill the whites?” If the movie were real, it would have been a purely rhetorical question, because every southerner of the era knew the simple answer: Well regulated militias kept the slaves in chains."
"By the time the Constitution was ratified, hundreds of substantial slave uprisings had occurred across the South. Blacks outnumbered whites in large areas, and the state militias were used to both prevent and to put down slave uprisings. As Dr. Bogus points out, slavery can only exist in the context of a police state, and the enforcement of that police state was the explicit job of the militias."
"This was not an imagined threat. Famously, 12 years earlier, during the lead-up to the Revolutionary War, Lord Dunsmore offered freedom to slaves who could escape and join his forces. “Liberty to Slaves” was stitched onto their jacket pocket flaps. During the War, British General Henry CLINTON extended the practice in 1779. And numerous freed slaves served in General Washington’s army."

The GOP 2020 Presidential Campaign has officially begun!

Let’s be clear. The 2016 general election is over. The GOP lost. Hillary Clinton is the president-elect…. and there is nothing that can be done to stop that. Don the Con is floundering while Hillary Clinton is straight-up knocking shit out the park with speeches like this one at the African Episcopal Methodist Church in Philadelphia. The GOP jumping ship over Don the Con’s candidacy shows that they are already preparing for the inevitable loss. The car has rolled off the cliff at this point. The GOP has stopped desperately pumping the brakes and is now just bracing for the impact.

Right now the GOP’s strategy is just attacking Hillary Clinton while remaining distant from Trump. Why? Because the GOP has given up 2016 and is now preparing for the 2020 presidential election.

A new satire website, full of comedy about Trump and his campaign, has just launched at www.dingbatdonald.com. “Dingbat” is the theme because some people say Donald is batty and not qualified to lead the nation. Dingbats are nitwits, loony and laughable.

On seeing the website, Donald complained, “Unfair! They have the best words!” and vowed to end that First Amendment, free press thing when he’s elected. “It’s been around, what, 200 years? Time to go, okay?”

Trump’s supporters are said to be angry at Washington, but it's hard to stay angry as a voter when you are laughing out loud. The website aims to make people chuckle a bit and think twice before voting for a dingbat. This approach to Trump mixes satire with seriousness, drawing on his own words and actions.

Dingbatdonald.com features nationally-known cartoonists and writers. Site visitors will find Trump satire from the Onion, Slate, YouTube, and Cagle Cartoons, made available in one place that is not like any other on the Internet. The site has original articles and cartoons as well, including “Swipes”—a series of, well, swipes at The Donald. All in all, it’s a Trump campaign comedy tour.

Creators of the website are not affiliated with any campaign or PAC. They are concerned Americans who want to do more than the usual canvassing and campaign donations this year.

    Obama and Trump After Dallas

...In fact, Obama, before the Dallas shootings, made clear in the first of his statements in Warsaw that to be critical of police abuses and to cite evidence of racism in no way constitutes an anti-police campaign. Rather it is a call for reform, for legislation, for more training, and for deeper understanding. Obama exhibited respect for law-enforcement officials—for the vast majority of officers who do their difficult job with care and respect. But, he said, “If communities are mistrustful of the police, that makes those law-enforcement officers who are doing a great job, who are doing the right thing, it makes their lives harder.” He continued, “When people say ‘black lives matter,’ that doesn’t mean blue lives don’t matter. … But right now the big concern is the fact that the data shows black folks are more vulnerable to these kinds of incidents. … There is a particular burden that is being placed on a group of our fellow-citizens.”

As a state senator in Springfield, Illinois, Obama worked on these issues. Calling on the testimony of both civil-liberties groups and police associations, he helped craft anti-racial-profiling measures to combat the phenomenon of officers pulling over disproportionate numbers of black and Hispanic motorists. It was also part of his personal experience. Speaking last year, in Chicago, to a gathering of fourteen thousand police chiefs, Obama recalled, “There were times when I was younger and maybe even as I got a little older, but before I had a motorcade, where I got pulled over. … Most of the time I got a ticket, I deserved it. I knew why I was pulled over. But there were times where I didn’t. And as a report that came out just this week reminded us, there are a lot of African-Americans, not just me, who have that same kind of story of being pulled over, or frisked, or something. And the data shows that this is not an aberration. It doesn’t mean each case is a problem. It means that when you aggregate all the cases and you look at it, you’ve got to say that there’s some racial bias in the system.”

You Do Not Represent Us: An Open Letter to Donald Trump

“We, proud students, alumni, and faculty of Wharton, are outraged that an affiliation with our school is being used to legitimize prejudice and intolerance,” the letter reads. “Although we do not aim to make any political endorsements with this letter, we do express our unequivocal stance against the xenophobia, sexism, racism, and other forms of bigotry that you have actively and implicitly endorsed in your campaign.”

As of Saturday morning, the letter had garnered over 600 signatures from current and former Wharton undergraduate and graduate students.

The 2nd Amendment Is So White: What the Past 24 Hours Have Taught Me About Black People’s Right to Bear Arms

In less than 24 hours, two black men have been killed by police officers even though the Second Amendment indicates that they should have been protected. Black America yet again bears witness to state-sanctioned violence at the hands of trigger-happy rogue cops—one in Louisiana, a state that has open-carry laws, and the other in Minnesota, where the victim had a permit to conceal and carry firearms. The truth, however, is that the Second Amendment (and subsequent open-carry laws) does not apply to black people in America.

This past Monday, America celebrated its 240th birthday. We rejoiced, we attended cookouts and we were hopeful that equality could be within reach. Then, the next day, with the senseless killing of 37-year-old Alton Sterling—a black man who was shot several times while being held on the ground by police outside a Baton Rouge, La., convenience store—we realized yet again that “liberty and justice for all” does not apply to black and brown people.

I watched the killing of Sterling on Wednesday morning. I rarely watch these videos because they are triggering and it immediately becomes traumatizing to see unmovable, bloodied black bodies, but because it was shared so many times, I felt it was for a reason. It wasn’t.

    The facts appear pretty clear.
