President Obama's entire speech from the Democratic convention last night. If you have not heard this yet, well you need to.

It is very hard to list all of President Obama's greatest speeches in any kind of order, but I would argue that this speech would certainly have to be in his top five, if not top two.

It is inspirational, patriotic, optimistic, and literally EVERYTHING that Donald Trump's speech last week at the RNC was not.

And if you are not fired up to vote for Hillary Clinton after hearing it you might want to check your pulse.

For those who do not have the time available to hear the entire speech, here is the transcript.

But let me suggest that reading the words on your own is nowhere near as inspirational as hearing them  coming out of the mouth of this great man.

There was not a dry eye anywhere in that Philadelphia auditorium last night. And I bet there was not a dry eye among the millions of us who watched on television. I suspect, however, that someone in Wasilla was pitching cans of fruit at the refrigerator. She'll really be doing it tonight when Hillary Clinton accepts her party's nomination.

This was a brilliant speech on so many levels, but
the most brilliant thing about it was that after years of being painted as "the other", Barack Obama showed that it is truly Donald Trump and his supporters (mostly white people who think of themselves as the "real Americans") who are out of step with the long, storied, revolutionary American idea of self-governance, of the people working and striving to build the nation through years of advocacy, compromise, and genuine struggle. An autocratic demagogue who says only he can identify and solve our problems is the real outlier in the American experience, the real break with American tradition. It was a bravura performance, a speech for the ages.

  5. Obama The Orator
Obama won the presidency because of his oratory. He reminded us of that tonight. He knows what to say, and how to say it. Where I come from we would call that speech, a barn burner. The best political speech I've heard, and I've heard the best. Defining his ideology logically, with impeccable delivery, passion, and surpassing his goal.
I was never an Obama-maniac, but I've never liked Hillary, so Obama was my option. I'm sure his oratory played a big part in my decision. When McCain picked Palin, I voted for Obama the second time. I disagreed sharply with a lot of his decisions, but I have respect for him, I even like him. If he goes on the road for Hillary and keeps giving those kind of speeches, she will win the presidency, just as he did.
Obama will go out of office as a popular president, while the Congress is more unpopular than changing diapers.
Obama can talk all the optimism he wants. But the future looks dim no matter which candidate wins, although, one candidate is far better than the other.
Obama deserves kudos for pulling us out of the mess the Republicans left us/him. With a little help he could have done so much more. Obama has been treated outrageously at times, just proving racism and nasty politics are still alive.
So on with the election and the dripping hate on the blogs, from both/all sides.

Just one correction, the second time you'd have been able to vote for Obama was in 2012 when Romney/Ryan were running against him. McCain/Palin ran against him his first term in 2008.

The future only looks dim if we let the GOP continue to control Congress. Vote them out. I'd love to see Ryan lose the gravel back to Pelosi, and McConnell go hide under a rock. You can bet traitor Norquist has his new pledge forms all ready to be signed. The GOP will lose the WH. Let's make sure they lose everything.

He voted for Obama over Hillary in the 08 primary, then for Obama over McCain/Palin in the general. That's two in 08.

On Thursday morning’s Morning Joe, Wallace was discussing the foreign policy chops of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, and after agreeing with host Joe Scarborough that Palin was “woefully ignorant” on the subject, she asserted that Palin was better than Trump because she was at least willing to learn.

Wallace got a big laugh when she described Palin as going to bed every night “with an open highlighter smeared on her face” from trying to learn, but her prescription for Trump shows Wallace has learned nothing from the near-disaster she participated in:

...Do you think Nicolle Wallace can actually hear the words that are coming out of her own mouth? She just got finished explaining how Sarah Palin was a foreign policy disaster even after cramming intensely on the subject, and then concludes that Trump could successfully mitigate his foreign policy deficits by reading five books.

Wallace is a shill. Why MSNBC has gone with her, that abominable Hewitt man, and so many others is beyond me. At least they have Rachel covering this every night. I did disagree with her opinion on Bill's speech, but so what. She's probably heard the stories before; I had not.
But President Obama will be remembered as one of our greatest Presidents. I am so glad to be alive with him leaving office as a young man, and available to Hillary for advice and counsel as needed. And who knows? Maybe the wonderful Michelle will run for Senate next.

I became very disappointed with MSNBC and stopped watching them. They once were a channel I tuned into daily. But, no more!

Rachel Maddow has disappointed me the most as to her joint coverage (can't think of the guy's name she has been broadcasting with, but he's an old timer!) of the Conventions. Rachel use to be my favorite, but is no more!

She's played dirty as to her reporting (got in the gutter!) on President Bill Clinton immediately after his wonderful speech about his wife, Hillary Clinton. She latterly shocked me - no kidding - and of course, Wallace totally agreed with Rachel's nasty statement!

Rachel showed herself to be going for ratings! Nothing more and nothing less. She never use to talk like that!

Vote Hillary Clinton and use the internet as your source for news, etc. Stop watching CNN and MSNBC - the viewership, for both, has dropped considerably over the past year.

Definitely top 5 for me. I'd put the 2004 DNC Speech, the Mother Emanuel Eulogy, and the Beau Biden Eulogy above this, and probably his 2008 DNC Speech, too.

This is not to damn last night's speech with faint praise! It was a damned fine speech, rhetorically gifted, powerfully delivered. It was on the quintessential Obama theme -- America's founding principles and whether or not we are doing all that we can to fulfill them. He is, almost certainly, the great orator of our time.

And, as so many have noted, we are lucky to have had him in office, and we are unlikely to see his like again.

Spectacular love fest at the DNC. Could not have asked for more. I love my President. I love him unconditionally, forever. The emotion, the love, the gratitude in his voice — towards me, towards us — just tore at my heart. He cannot leave me because he has played such a big part in almost a decade of my life.

...Every sentence of Obama’s speech was a history lesson, a description of how we got to where we are today, and a map of how to move forward while leaving the fetid dross behind us. It was a good bye speech for sure, though. It was his exit interview with the people that hired him, that love him, and that he loves. Listen to it and share it from demconvention.org or c-span.org or even YouTube. The history of this country is literarily in our hands. So far I’ve heard 12 of the most inspiring speeches I’ve ever heard in my life.

Steve Schale, an aide on Obama's two presidential campaigns, said the speech would serve to build the bridge toward unity in a splintered Democratic Party — in a way only the president could do.

"President Obama had two jobs tonight: set the table of the stakes of this campaign, and pass the torch of an energized, enthusiastic, and unified party to Hillary Clinton," he said. "In both cases, the speech was an unqualified success."

And so Obama wound down his political career by attempting to expand that beyond the party, to "show the world we still believe in the promise of this great nation."

He was played off, as he has so often, to Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered."

He might have just done that for Hillary Clinton.

"Eight years ago, you may remember Hillary and I were rivals for the Democratic nomination," Obama said. "We battled for a year and a half. Let me tell you: It was tough, because Hillary was tough. I was worn out. She was doing everything I was doing, but, just like Ginger Rogers, it was backwards and in heels. Every time I thought I might have that race won, Hillary just came back stronger."

... Obama and Clinton were thought to dislike each other — as evidenced by the moment during a debate when Obama said snidely, "You're likable enough, Hillary" — but their relationship has warmed since Obama tapped Clinton to be his first secretary of state.

"After it was all over, I asked Hillary to join my team," Obama said. "She was a little surprised, and her team was a little surprised, but ultimately she said yes — because she knew that what was at stake was bigger than either of us."

Yes, President Obama and Hillary Clinton were rivals. Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders were rivals.

Too bad Obama and Clinton are grown up. They could have carried on like the bashers attacking Bernie now. To think Obama could have made up garbage and lied about Clinton and instead he took the high road, because that is who he is. The rivalary had passed.

I can understand Bernie people feeling disappointed and butthurt for a time. If the idiots that keep making up stuff, misinforming and all the trash they sling at Bernie keep that up... yes, the hurt will last longer and never benefit anyone. Democrats can be petty and fooled like anyone else. The few petty fools reflect poorly on the whole party. Clinton and Sanders are fine now. Let the lies and bashing end. They are no longer rivals. If you need to bash either Clinton or Sanders keep it honest and more relevant.

The only ones to benefit from petty bashing of Bernie now are the Trump people. They love when Democrats look ignorant, dumb and mean.

There will always be those that don't believe Hillary when it comes to what she did with Iraq vote. I still can't believe she was so stupid. Why didn't she keep up with the available information of that time? Information that was honest and verifiable.

The primary issue for Republicans at this point is actually trying to reconcile and rationalize that their Party nominated a truly disgusting person in terms of ethics, morals, integrity, and scruples, and most importantly, who is so eminently and utterly unqualified to be Commander and Chief of the greatest country on earth. GOP party liners, members of Congress, and most elected politicians are contorting and writhing when asked why they support the Donald. Heads are exploding all across GOP land. I listened to a short interview with the Senator from Oklahoma who, when asked what he thought about Trump asking Russia to hack a major political party, and befriending Putin (a corrupt dictator), could only attack Hillary for her emails. When pointedly asked to answer the question about Trump, he still could not even utter his name. This is indicative of the turmoil and angst going on in the GOP. They are compelled to support their nominee, but are swallowing their own vomit when they have to say it. But I don't feel any compassion for the lot of them. The GOP is entirely responsible for the Donald. As my ole Grandpa used to say: "They sh*t in their own nest, so now they have to sit in it."

You can only give a speech like that if you've been working your ass off trying to make something better. The reason the Republicans couldn't do that last week in Cleveland is because their list of accomplishments for this century is empty. Mitch McConnell can't brag about not holding hearings for a nominee to the Supreme Court. Paul Ryan can't brag about holding a position he doesn't want and only took because no one else wanted it. Trump has waged a slash and burn campaign that alienated McCain, Graham, Kasich, Cruz and most of the sitting Republicans. You can't uplift people when you're busy tearing them apart.

I also think that the tax rates are fairly fair, President Obama has been able even with a hostile congress to lower the annual debt.
As far as TPP, like it or not commerce is done on a global scale now. Mostly because the American people do not buy American made products. Poll: Clinton leads Trump by 9 in Pennsylvania

President Barack Obama sent a simple message Wednesday night: Yes, we still can.

Obama’s convention speech in Philadelphia framed the 2016 election in a very Obama way: the audacity of hope over the politics of fear, optimism over darkness, solutions over slogans, togetherness over division, a supremely qualified public servant in Hillary Clinton over an amateur-hour con artist in Donald Trump. America, he declared, is already great, and Clinton will make it greater.

Ironic that, while Trump would never be the solution, his stance that our country was on the brink of wreckage was exactly where we were before Obama got to work.

The past three days of convention have really filled me with pride. The Bernie stuff and all. Well, except for the interruption last night during Leon Panetta's speech, and there's concern about it happening tonight during a military speech.

I want to paste in this link to something I heard Trump say yesterday. I didn't see anything online about it yesterday, but it turns out that Vox had reported on it. I'm surprised there's not more out there about it. This clip perfectly shows what a douche Trump is. He just doesn't get, at 70 years old, why so much of what he says reveals that he is unfit for the office.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it. He said that Putin had called the president the n-word. Then he said Putin didn't respect Pres Obama and that he would respect Trump and Trump hoped Putin would like him. Trump acted like Putin using the n-word was acceptable because Putin doesn't care for Obama. There's not evidence that Putin ever said the n-word about Obama, but that isn't the point. The point is that Trump seemed to rationalize the use of the word, like it was okay given the circumstances.

Obama’s Powerful Message: Donald Trump Is Un-American

...Watching the President, you got the sense he had been waiting to deliver this speech for a long time. Yes, he was carrying out a political mission, but it was also personal. Trump hasn’t just insulted Obama personally: Trump’s entire candidacy represents an affront to everything that Obama stands for and got elected on—hope, inclusiveness, reason, and faith in a democratic political system .

Obama Praises ‘The America I Know,’ Says Hillary Clinton Is The One To Lead It
Optimism versus pessimism. Hope versus despair. Light versus dark.

And that is what it has come down to. Hope versus depression.

I was so depressed when Bush won a second term. I was sad and negative and just pissed it seemed for four years. Depressed that our country was going to hell and nothing could be done.

It was a ray of sunshine when Obama announced his decision to run in 2008. Yes, cliche but I had hope again. I was ecstatic when he won. He was the first president I voted FOR. Prior I had simply voted against the other guy with whoever was on the ballot. Yeah, I wasn't even enthusiastic about Clinton except that he was better than his opponents.

I've been so encouraged and happy these last 8 years, even though Arne Duncan is an asshole and I don't agree with some of his other appointments and positions. He should have made more use of his 2 year supermajority before losing it, should never have compromised as much as he did and Lieberman should have been punished for his treason. He eventually saw the light on gay marriage and the XL pipeline. Not on board with TPP. But on balance way more positives than negatives.

And that is the bottom line. With Trump everything will be a negative. This country will enter a dark, dark tunnel from which we may not escape. The GOP is like a dark cloud that swallows everything and drains all of the color out of life.

Yes, I'll be voting AGAINST Donald Trump. But at least the odds are much better this country will stay on track and in the light.

Now that is the face of someone that tortures and murders animals.

They are simply desperate to smear the Dems as misdirection for their huge failure.

Jr. should be careful or they'll be picking apart everything he says for signs of plagiarism.

Barack Obama’s Transformational Success Is Only Beginning to Come Into View

...The breadth and depth of the transformation wrought by Obama’s presidency is vast. The evidence for that transformation continues to build, largely out of sight and ignored by the political debate. Consider three of Obama’s largest areas of achievement: economic recovery, health-care reform, and a response to climate change.

Hillary Clinton Is Running Not Just As the Democrat But As the Candidate of Democracy Itself

...The election is not fundamentally about whether a Democrat will beat a Republican. It is about whether a small-d democrat will defeat an authoritarian, and her election should be the cause not only of Democrats but anybody who cares about democracy.

The thing I noticed about Republicans is that they all blame. Right down from their children to their preachers. They play the blame and fear card so well. And the Democrats have all come off humble. They know this democracy thing is something that cannot be accomplished by oneself. It has to have the cooperation of the People. And they respect that. The thing that I detest to my heart and soul, is when a Republican minded person goes on tv and spout their values and say the people have spoken. No, we all haven't. Some of us are not with you on this. Just your' party affiliation have spoken. Democrats never use blanket statements like that. They leave it up to their party to come forth and use their own voice. The Republicans even speak for God. God said this, and God said that. God wants this and God wants that. If you don't you'll go hell and burn like hell. And if you don't you won't be rewarded on this earth in prosperity. It's a game to enable their party to lord over the rest of us through guilt trips over our souls. Obama personified all the Democratic people think that's why we liked his speech. He said what we think and know already. Just like Donald who says exactly what his party thinks. There's no way around that. We have alot of Nazi minded people in our country. If Donald every gets elected and years after his madness, because it's obvious they are going to let him say and do anything without pulling him back, history will have to record another episode of Hitlerism from Donald, and Stalinism from Putin. The world tends to repeat itself which leaves me to wonder, are we the most intelligent thing on this earth? I doubt it.

Top third for me. What an eloquent, brilliant man. I've been working in center city Philly all week, and I think all democrats are starting to get on the same page. Today was the first time the remaining Bernie folks didn't block traffic, and if Bernie had anything to do with it, I thank him. so I hope this is a good sign. We've all got to get over this petty nonsense and GOTV.
