The Green Party's Jill Stein offers to step aside so that Bernie Sanders can run against Hillary Clinton again.

Courtesy of The Guardian:

Bernie Sanders has been invited to continue his underdog bid for the White House by the Green party’s probable presidential candidate, who has offered to step aside to let him run.

Jill Stein, who is expected to be endorsed at the party’s August convention in Houston, told Guardian US that “overwhelming” numbers of Sanders supporters are flocking to the Greens rather than Hillary Clinton.

Stein insisted that her presidential bid has a viable “near term goal” of reaching 15% in national polling, which would enable her to stand alongside presumptive nominees Clinton and Donald Trump in televised election debates.

But in a potentially destabilising move for the Democratic party, and an exciting one for Sanders’ supporters, the Green party candidate said she was willing to stand aside for Sanders.

“I’ve invited Bernie to sit down explore collaboration – everything is on the table,” she said. “If he saw that you can’t have a revolutionary campaign in a counter-revolutionary party, he’d be welcomed to the Green party. He could lead the ticket and build a political movement,” she said.

According to Stein she has already e-mailed her offer to Sanders.

You know I am really starting to dislike this woman.
And it really seems that she is driven more by her intense hatred toward Hillary than by any desire to win an election or make a political point.

Besides she MUST know that if Sanders were to actually take her up on this offer that it would literally be handing the election to Donald Trump.

“Ma’am, keep your hands where they are,” ONE officer says to Reynolds.

“I will sir, no worries, I will,” Reynolds responds, before calmly explaining to the Facebook livestream viewers that the cop “just shot his arm off.” It’s not until several minutes later, sitting in the back of a police car, that Reynolds finally breaks down.

“I can’t believe they just did this I’m—,” Reynolds says before letting out a scream.

In the link you posted, Stein acknowledges the importance of vaccines and accepts the science. She has also said the same elsewhere. Her (arguably dumb) point in the linked convo above is that Big Pharma shouldn't be deciding how the vaccines themselves are tested/designed.

Some people are so blinded by hatred that they would rather leave a scorched earth after them than let go of their hatred. Nothing would convince them that another person is not the evil that they imagine. Bernie Sanders has already indicated that he would endorse Hillary. It would be quite the flip-flop if he would accept Jill Stein's offer. She seems like a very bitter person intent on causing as much trouble as she can just for the satisfaction of getting back at someone else. I hope Bernie doesn't fall into that trap. He can always voice his opinions if he doesn't agree with Hillary. He doesn't need to stab Hillary in the back to make his point. If he did that, it would show that he is in it for his own vanity and is not the honest man that he says he is.

Received from Hillary Clinton on July 8, 2016:

Like so many people across America, I have been following the news of the past few days with horror and grief.

On Tuesday, Alton Sterling, father of five, was killed in Baton Rouge -- approached by the police for selling CDs outside a convenience store. On Wednesday, Philando Castile, 32 years old, was killed outside Minneapolis -- pulled over by the police for a broken tail light.

And last night in Dallas, during a peaceful protest related to those killings, a sniper targeted police officers -- five have died: Brent Thompson, Patrick Zamarripa, Michael Krol, Michael Smith, and Lorne Ahrens. Their names, too, will be written on our hearts.

What can one say about events like these? It’s hard to know where to start. For now, let’s focus on what we already know, deep in our hearts: There is something wrong in our country.

There is too much violence, too much hate, too much senseless killing, too many people dead who shouldn’t be. No one has all the answers. We have to find them together. Indeed, that is the only way we can find them.

Let’s begin with something simple but vital: listening to each other.

White Americans need to do a better job of listening when African Americans talk about seen and unseen barriers faced daily. We need to try, as best we can, to walk in one another’s shoes. To imagine what it would be like if people followed us around stores, or locked their car doors when we walked past, or if every time our children went to play in the park, or just to the store to buy iced tea and Skittles, we said a prayer: “Please God, don’t let anything happen to my baby.”

    ReplyDelete
  8. Anonymous6:53 AM

Let’s also put ourselves in the shoes of police officers, kissing their kids and spouses goodbye every day and heading off to do a dangerous job we need them to do. Remember what those officers in Dallas were doing when they died: They were protecting a peaceful march. When gunfire broke out and everyone ran to safety, the police officers ran the other way -- into the gunfire. That’s the kind of courage our police and first responders show all across America.

We need to ask ourselves every single day: What can I do to stop violence and promote justice? How can I show that your life matters -- that we have a stake in another’s safety and well-being?

Elie Wiesel once said that “the opposite of love is not hate -- it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death -- it’s indifference.”

None of us can afford to be indifferent toward each other -- not now, not ever. We have a lot of work to do, and we don’t have a moment to lose. People are crying out for criminal justice reform. People are also crying out for relief from gun violence. The families of the lost are trying to tell us. We need to listen. We need to act.

I know that, just by saying all these things together, I may upset some people.

I’m talking about criminal justice reform the day after a horrific attack on police officers. I’m talking about courageous, honorable police officers just a few days after officer-involved killings in Louisiana and Minnesota. I’m bringing up guns in a country where merely talking about comprehensive background checks, limits on assault weapons and the size of ammunition clips gets you demonized.

But all these things can be true at once.

We do need police and criminal justice reforms, to save lives and make sure all Americans are treated as equal in rights and dignity.

We do need to support police departments and stand up for the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect us.

We do need to reduce gun violence.

We may disagree about how, but surely we can all agree with those basic premises. Surely this week showed us how true they are.

I’ve been thinking today about a passage from Scripture that means a great deal to me -- maybe you know it, too:

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.”

There is good work for us to do, to find a path ahead for all God’s children. There are lost lives to redeem and bright futures to claim. We must not lose heart.

May the memory of those we’ve lost light our way toward the future our children deserve.

    Thank you,

    Hillary

Bernie Sanders Scores A Big Win For 62 Million Americans With $15 Minimum Wage Victory

The difference between what former Sec. Clinton proposed and what Sen. Sanders proposed was $3/hour. Either way, Democrats are supporting a big raise for minimum wage workers.

What is just as important as the dollar amount in the Democratic platform is the fact that the minimum wage will be indexed to inflation. This small but major step would end the cycle of stagnant wages that keeps American workers perpetually behind rising prices.

If Democrats keep the White House and take back Congress, it will be interesting to see if there is enough support to get a $15/hour bill passed. The suspicion is that the number that Congress is most likely to agree on remains $12/hour, but it is important for the Democratic Party to set the bar high.

The choice for American workers is clear. Donald Trump thinks wages are too high and need to be lowered, while Democrats understand that a minimum wage increase is long overdue.

Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton have come together on a platform and the big winners from their efforts will be the American people.

Is dislike of Stein personally based on facts, or because she represents values, opinions and a vision for the future that the mainstream parties beholden to corporate money and influence can't or won't deliver? Facts and analysis, not purely emotional responses are needed now more than ever.

IMO, it is counterproductive to smear Stein simply because of disagreeing with her views, for example that Hillary has been held to a different standard under the law than others on the email issue--or because of disagreement with the programs and values the Green Party espouse.

Substantive info on Stein as a candidate and a person would be a better way to find out how creditable she is. Better to leave ad hominem attacks, smears and character assassinations to people like Trump.

I agree with the Green platform, but Stein is a lunatic. One can disagree that someone had the temperament to be president, or even run for the office, while still accepting one holds the same basic policy stances. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Perhaps more importantly, asking for Stein to be given a "fair" hearing on issues independently of her (questionable) character and suitability for leadership is pretty rich from someone who just implied that the double standard against Hillary doesn't exist.
You're trying to sound logical, but your point is invalid and unfair.

@7:40, If you are addressing my post (7:22) let me clarify--I do think a double standard exists for Hillary as opposed to others accused of lesser offenses re classified material: Others have paid steeply--some have even been jailed such as whistelblower James Kirakaou, and even on circumstantial evidence like Jeffrey Sterling.
Hillary was given a pass when others were not, in short.

This is evidence of a two-tiered justice system with the powerful skirting onerous and career destroying penalties that are imposed on the less powerful--a dangerous and unfortunate lesson since confidence and faith in government and its institutions is already damaged in our country.

If justice is to be upheld then since Hillary was shown leniency all others who have done less re classified material-- from whistleblowers to those who made mistakes-- but have had their careers ruined and even seen jail time should be shown similar leniency. When and if that happens we can say the double standard is being negated and justice is being upheld.

    7. Anonymous9:42 AM

Most folks on here cannot differentiate between e-mail classification mishaps and using a private e-mail address, let alone a server. I wonder what those folks say about the 30,000 Bush-Cheney e-mails on a private RNC server deleted without investigation? Were you protesting that in 2008? Talk about a double standard.

      Delete
    8. Anonymous6:39 AM

@9:42 The point I made is that Hillary was held to a different standard under the law than less powerful individuals-- who also did less regarding mishandling classified material.

We can't go back in a time machine to see what crimes Bush Jr. may have done besides the biggest and most damaging of starting a war based on lies and invading a country, Iraq, where the death toll is now in the millions of innocents if you count back to the first invasion by Bush Sr. (And I did protest the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 before it happened as it was clear Bush and Tony Blair were lying but the press and media, including the NY Times page one, trumpeted the lies and cooked intelligence that Saddam had WMD). Not to mention that Bush and the neocons' wars and military actions have destabilized the Middle East and parts of Africa now littered with failed states like Iraq and Libya that have become magnets and training grounds for terrorists where there were none before US military invasion and intervention.
I think Bush Jr., and Cheney should be charged with war crimes under international law, as may happen to Tony Blair after the recent Chilcot report.

Here's a link to exactly what I mean by saying Hillary has been held to a different standard and gone unpunished where others have been persecuted and had their lives ruined because they were not part of the elite, and in the case of whistleblowers like John Kirakou were reporting government crimes.

How disgusting. Anyone watching the hearing day before yesterday learned that about 3 of "more than" 30,000 emails had classified information. The emails were supposed to be marked as classified on the subject line, but they weren't. So it was impossible to tell they were "classified" unless the reader saw the term (c) hidden down in the text, not in the subject line. Looks like it's over for fat boy Ailes:

Six More Women Allege That Roger Ailes Sexually Harassed Them

...In recent days, more than a dozen women have contacted Carlson’s New Jersey-based attorney, Nancy Erika Smith, and made detailed allegations of sexual harassment by Ailes over a 25-year period dating back to the 1960s when he was a producer on The Mike Douglas Show. “These are women who have never told these stories until now,” Smith told me. “Some are in lot of pain.” Taken together, these stories portray Ailes as a boss who spoke openly of expecting women to perform sexual favors in exchange for job opportunities. “He said that’s how all these men in media and politics work — everyone’s got their friend,”

    Hillary, Get Your Sh*t Together

...But she has this blind spot, and it just has to change before she gets to the White House.

Clinton should spell out what specific steps she’d take as president to ensure that something like this doesn’t happen.

HRC is qualified to be pres. The others, not so much.

Those who throw their vote away on non electable candidates are the ones who will be responsible for the next 4 years of hell if dRUMPf wins.

Bernie Sanders cannot endorse Hillary Clinton if he wants to retain credibility in the movement he created.

...She also said what many Sanders supporters are saying: She doesn’t like Trump, but she’s tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.

The 2016 presidential race is set to go down in history as the one in which Democrats missed a golden opportunity to make things right with the American public and instead, chose to stab them in the back for greed, power, and status quo.

If Bernie chooses to endorse Hillary Clinton and urge supporters to vote for her, all of his talk of a political revolution will ring hollow and he will be seen as just another cog in the wheel of a corrupt political system. His revolution will continue, of course, because now the American people are awake, and they’re not going back to sleep.

It wouldn't hurt HIllary, the Bernie bots that will vote against the Democratic Party are never going to vote for the Democratic candidate in Nov. anyway. In fact, the only way this would hurt Hillary if they have Bernie within finger flailing distance of her during Presidential debates. Oh, and would that mean Bernie wouls show us his tax returns? I think it would be an eye opener to those that think "free college" will work since Jane grifted plenty of bucks from Burlington on that model.

For the record, on Election Day 2012, Jill "Look at me! Look at me!" Stein received 469,501 votes (0.36% of the popular vote). A little over a third of one per cent of the vote. FWIW, a few years ago I was watching Green congressional candidate vote totals as a friend was running in one race, and most of them appeared to get at least 3% of the popular vote.

Jill has complained that Bernie doesn't return her calls. Smart of him.

Jill Stein could totally be a secret Republican punking us by and we'd never know. She's a Harvard educated doctor - it's not that far fetched.

She's one of the Republicans' best assets. They are surely funding her by now.

OMG this is why I'm #NeverStein! She is the Green Party Establishment $hill in the pocket of Big Homeopathy and the healing crystals industry! The delegates don't even vote until August. This is why I'm supporting a true Green Party candidate, Darryl Cherney. If he doesn't win, I'm voting for Hillary in protest. #FeelTheChern #ChernTheConvention

"Besides she MUST know that if Sanders were to actually take her up on this offer that it would literally be handing the election to Donald Trump."

Really? I thought Hillary had it in the bag. I thought she was so far ahead of Trump that nothing could prevent her from winning. I thought Bernie and his supporters were insignificant (fucking children) that had no influence and their votes didn't matter because Hillary had sooooooo many and was soooooo far ahead. She won, she won, she won.

Are you now telling me that the votes of Bernie supporters do matter? That without them Hillary might lose?

Are you implying that all of the vitriol, insults and derogatory epithets and bullying aimed at Bernie voters might encourage them to vote Green rather than vote for Hillary?

    Wow.

    Gee.

Maybe some people shouldn't have been so condescending and juvenile in their opinion of how other people choose to vote.

Even if Bernie Sanders fails to take up the Green Party on their offer, that is no guarantee his supporters won't still vote Green, given how they've been treated by certain Hillary supporters.

It's not just the Republicans who would like to suppress and control our Constitutional right to vote any way we choose. Bullying and vitriolic insults are just as bad as voter suppression and election fraud.

What a nice reality check Jill Stein has given us.

I guess Bernie isn't so inconsequential after all.

Keep in mind, the more insults your hurl at Bernie supporters, the more you bully them, the more you are playing into the hands of Jill Stein and ultimately Donald Trump.

    Let the bullying insults begin!
