Guess whose campaign manager may have taken secret payments from a pro-Russian group in Ukraine. Did I make that too easy? Update!

Courtesy of the BBC:

The New York Times article says Mr Manafort and his business played a key role in advising Ukraine's former pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych, who fled after an uprising in November 2013.

It said Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau had discovered the listed payments in the ledgers of Mr Yanukovych's then governing Party of the Regions - allegedly part of "an illegal off-the-books system".

The bureau is also investigating business deals worth millions of dollars put together with the help of Mr Manafort's business.

However, the bureau is yet to determine if Mr Manafort actually received any of the $12.7m.

The Times quoted Mr Manafort's lawyer, Richard Hibey, as saying his client had not done so.

"It is difficult to respect any kind of allegation of the sort being made here to smear someone when there is no proof and we deny there ever could be such proof."

You know I'm no lawyer but it would seem to me that listed payments in a ledger, constitutes at least some kind of proof.

As you might imagine the Clinton team is demanding that the Trump campaign come clean with all of their ties to Russia.

Here is how Howard Dean responded to the news.
I am not sure that this can be categorized as a "smoking gun" until there is proof that Manafort took those payments.

But I think we're all pretty sure that he did.

Gee I wonder what's next?

My money's on a Vladimir Putin/Donald Trump sex tape.

Though I am really, really hoping that's not it.

Update: Sorry I was wrong about the sex tape, the next thing is that Trump's daughter Ivanka is vacationing with Putin's girlfriend.

Courtesy of Gawker:

This weekend, Ivanka Trump and Wendi Deng Murdoch went “sight seeing” in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Deng Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wife, is reportedly dating Vladimir Putin.

Does WTF even cover this anymore?

To be unbiased, Wendy introduced Ivanka to her husband well before she started to date Putin so this one is sort of a lame tie. they have been pals for quite some time.
It was pretty damned dumb for Ivanka to pick NOW to go for a visit but who said she was smart? Seems like all the Trumps are pretty stupid when it comes to shit like this.

It's typical of how the Trumps go through life. They do WHAT they want to do WHEN they want to do it without any consideration for how it may affect anyone else.

I'm sure the campaign staff strongly suggested she put off her little trip until after the election, but none of the Trumps have listened to the staff before so why start now.

It's not as if they're on a tight budget and can't afford to change their travel plans!

I have no doubt that Donald Trump is a bigger con artist than Madoff. It's just a matter for time before it is exposed that he's broke as his debts are much greater than his assets.

I wouldn't be surprised if this campaign is designed not only to cover up that fact and distract his creditors, but he's praying if he wins he can somehow get the money to pay everyone off and still have plenty to live on. I think he's really in it for the money and the misdirection.

“The war is a total disaster…there’s only one person who you can blame, and that’s our current President [George W. Bush]. Obviously Rumsfeld was a disaster, and other people that are giving him advice are a disaster.” Trump’s record on the Iraq War is about as fluid as you can get – in 2002, he was for the war; in 2007 he was against it. In 2008 he was for withdrawing our troops, and in 2016 he was against it. It’s just more evidence that Donald Trump has no concrete convictions or beliefs; that he will simply say whatever pops into his head, and everything that came before it no longer exists.

So my guess is that Trump will simply blame the news media here, stick by Manafort, and pretend this is a non-issue. I also think that he will largely get away with such an audacious gambit.

Here's some commentary by Charles Lipson of RealClearPolitics.
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2016/08/15/election_shift_from_mad_as_hell_to_is_trump_qualified_131507.html

Now, in the early stages of the general election, that strategy is faltering. Why? Not because

Potential Trump oters are not suddenly happy with the status quo. They are still disgusted with established politicians, insider deals, slow economic growth, and rising dangers at home and abroad. They still don’t trust Washington insiders to solve those problems. They still think those insiders are cutting special deals for themselves and cutting out ordinary people.

But those anxieties are now being eclipsed by another, even larger one. Voters are increasingly worried Donald Trump is not stable enough to be entrusted with the vast powers of the presidency, not prudent enough to make life-and-death decisions, and not respectful enough of constitutional limitations to head the executive branch.

Trump is in deep trouble, not because he's an outsider, not because of his controversial views on trade and immigration, but because the American public increasingly sees him as erratic and undisciplined. They see his attacks on John McCain, Megyn Kelly, and others as worse than "mistakes." Voters are beginning to think they reveal deep-seated character flaws—flaws that he would inevitably bring to the Oval Office. For Trump, that perception is disastrous.

Hillary Clinton is certainly painting him that way. She's getting a lot of help from a friendly media (who are less pro-Clinton than anti-Trump), and, most of all, from Trump's own impromptu remarks on the campaign trail. In her narrative, Trump is beginning to resemble the Glenn Close character in “Fatal Attraction,” whose weekend fling with a married man (played by Michael Douglas) turns into his nightmare as it dawns on him that, however enticing she was at first glance, she’s really irrational, obsessive, and dangerous.

Once voters believe that about Trump, their views are likely to stick. Like red wine spilled on a white carpet, you can scrub and scrub, but you cannot erase the stain. To be considered erratic and impulsive, driven by pique and personal grudges, is just such a stain. Voters know, in their guts, that all presidents must make momentous decisions under great stress and great uncertainty. They want stability, careful consideration of alternatives, and calm, prudent judgment."

Donald is bringing himself down because he's realized that selling out his country to the Russians might not go well with Americans, after all. Plus, he's dumb and can't do the real work. It got real for him when he tried to get Kasich to run with him, then he got Pence. Or rather Pence was put to babysit that fat baby with a big mouth. That's why Trump goes off "message" and says crazy shit, cuz he resents the hell out of the fact that he has to be watched.

The true nutcase core won't care. But that core does not make up his entire 35-40% based of support. Doubling down on the cray-cray has given pause to some of his supporters, and done nothing to expand his core base. So, yeah, his supporters will keep screaming, and he'll keep believing he's on the right track because a few 1000 nutcases show up and scream for him at his campaign stops.
What say we keep him talking?

He can't win with just his core nutcase supporters. There simply aren't enough of them.

To win whoever is running needs to woo independents, non-partisans and undeclared, plus any iffy registered party people who have a history of swinging or voting a mixed ticket.

Not only is Trump not gaining any of these people he is losing Republicans and no Democrats are crossing the line.

I wouldn't be surprised if registered Green, Libertarian and other parties would vote for Hillary just to ensure Trump was defeated.

When Trump does these teleprompter Xanax speeches of his, his mouth contortions are even uglier. I mean, it's one thing when he's all hyped up and yelling and his ugly mouth gets uglier then, but who talks like he's medicated and still makes those freaky shapes happen where his mouth stretches down to his chin over and over and he exposes that hideous underbite of his. He is so fucking ugly!

Conservative Pundit Owns Up To Role In Trump’s Rise: We 'Created This Monster’

“When this is all over, we have to go back. There’s got to be a reckoning on all this,” Sykes said, according to an interview excerpt Darcy tweeted on Sunday. “We’ve created this monster.”

“And I am feeling, to a certain extent, that we are reaping the whirlwind at that. And I have to look in the mirror and ask myself, ‘To what extent did I contribute?’” he continued.

In response to Sykes remarks, conservative blogger Erick Erickson also took stock of his role fostering a movement that led to Trump’s candidacy.

“For some, like me, perhaps we pushed too hard on issues and held too many people to many promises we took more literally than we should. Perhaps we encouraged activists to have too little grace for others,” Erickson wrote at The Resurgent.

It’s worth reading the full excerpt, via Oliver Darcy:

"...[P]erhaps we pushed too hard on issues" is a curious thing to say when Republicans in recent decades have had virtually nothing to say to the American public about proposals to make life better for the working class, for the elderly, for those needing health care, for those needing education, etc. They have totally ignored the realities of living in the modern world in favor of fear mongering and starving the government which has become their arch-enemy. No one who hates the very concept of government should have a right to participate by being in office, at any level.

Oh, in related crazy GOP news, last week the Grand Traverse County (MI) GOP threw former (and much esteemed) Governor William Milliken out of the Republican Party because he has refused to endorse Donald Trump. He is the last moderate Republican of the Old School alive in the country. The Grand Traverse GOP is controlled today by the Tea Party and is hard at work destroying everything in the county. Now they're worried because so many essential county employees are leaving their jobs. Well, if you could go elsewhere and get decent pay and benefits, why shouldn't you? The county, and local municipalities, owned lock-stock-and-barrel by the Koch brothers, are starting to reap what they have sown and it's not pretty for the rest of us.

Nationally the GOP has to do a lot of soul searching. I doubt it they will. There's always someone else to blame. Somehow, this will all be President Obama's fault over the next several months.

Well, it's about time someone took responsibility.

Summary of Trumps foreign policy speech (which just ended a little while ago)- bashing Obama and Clinton, and fear mongering, empty promises to keep America safe etc etc - but no real policy or plans - not much substance - basically a robot delivering a speech written by some one who on his staff - the audience was small (30 to 50)

There is a small faction of Trumpettes who adore Putin and who might see this connection as a plus. Nothing will deter those die-hard Trumpers but this steady drip, drip of outrageous soundbites from The Donald, along with these continual revelations such as the Manafort connection to Putin will seriously impact those undecideds who will either hold their noses and vote for Hillary and cast their vote for one of the third party candidates.

Note that the lawyer did not say that his client had never received the amounts of money listed in the ledger, just that there is no proof and that his client is confident that no one will ever be able to find such proof. I gave out medications for decades as a nurse. No Xanax is likely to sedate Drumpf to the degree that he was today. No teleprompter is going to slow him to the degree that was evident. Don't know who is in charge of slipping him the "Mickey" but why not up the dose so he can lay down and read off the ceiling?

Hope all the effort possible is used tracking the Russian connections, the illegal Melabnorma and anything possible on Ivana who is considered an advisor to the campaign.

"Some of the soldiers were violent as they sexually assaulted women, said the woman who said she was raped by 15 men. Others, who looked to be just 15 or 16 years old, looked scared and were coerced into the act.
"One in particular, he was calling you, 'Sweetie, we should run away and get married.' It was like he was on a first date," the woman said. "He didn't see that what he was doing was a bad thing." "During the attack on the Terrain, several survivors told the AP that soldiers specifically asked if they were American. "One of them, as soon as he said he was American, he was hit with a rifle butt," said a woman."
