I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Mocking religion? Always a good thing in my book.

Starting another new religion? NEVER a good thing.

I mean sure right now everybody understands that it's a parody and probably attend the services with their tongue firmly implanted in their cheek, but fifty to a hundred years down the line this could be the next tax exempt place of worship fighting to get their creation story taught in middle school science classes.

You know I bet those early Christians thought it was all for shits and giggles too.

But then the next thing you know you have some guy building a tax funded amusement park in Kentucky paying homage to a children's story about a giant boat.

Slippery slope my friends.

It may be Iowa's first but FSM has been a "thing" for many years. A Pastafarian won the right to wear a colander on her head for her driver's license photo in Massachusetts in 2015.

I would love to see this new 'church' use their gathering to do what all churches are supposed to do...help people.

Charge a nominal fee for the pasta dinner and donate the funds to a worthwhile charity.

Isn't providing a free dinner helping people? Why should it just be turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas?

Disneyland already has the boat ride associated with the Pastafarians. (AKA Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster"

BUT one of the "I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts" from the Gospel of FSM is "I'd really rather you didn't build multimillion-dollar synagogues / churches / temples / mosques / shrines to [His] Noodly Goodness when the money could be better spent ending poverty, curing diseases, living in peace, loving with passion and lowering the cost of cable."

Sooo.. they SHOULD have a free pasta dinner, they just SHOULDN'T call it a "church." Call it a "Pasta Bowl" to extend the parody. House of Pasta, Int'l House of Pasta, Pasta Bell, McPasta, Pasta King, Pasta Hut, ChiPastle, etc..

Darn! I thought you were going to say they'd be hosting massive spaghetti feeds. I'd love an amusement park that featured 1,001 ways with spaghetti. MMMMmmmm!!!

What fun to eat your way through all the different recipes!

    Oh, well, guess not. Bummer!

Former Iowan here. I'd also like to know where this is taking place, so I may participate the next time I visit the state.

A spaghetti dinner fund raiser? What's this world coming to? Soon they'll be playing bingo as well. And what comes next, garlic bread and wine. I wish them luck, but no one beats my home made marinara sauce. Wonder if I can sell it in Whole Foods with a photo of FSM on the label? Or maybe trader joes..... hmmmm.

I thought I read somewhere that a guy in one of the military branches was allowed to put Pastafarian as his religion.

I think some of the FSM "ministers" can perform weddings. There may even be a tax exempt "church" which is probably someone's house.

Why shouldn't the be able to work the system just like the other "religions"?
