Roger Ailes used part of the Fox News budget to fund a "black room" dedicated to digging up dirt on his enemies.

Courtesy of New York Magazine:

According to one highly-placed source, Solivan worked out of what Fox insiders called “the Black Room,” an operation Ailes established around 2011 to conduct PR and surveillance campaigns against people he targeted both inside and outside the company. The “Black Room” was located on the 14th floor of the News Corp building at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, a quiet part of the office that housed Fox News Latino and some marketing and promotions employees. Fox employees Ken LaCorte and Jim Pinkerton, veteran political operatives who’ve worked with Ailes since the 1980s, also worked with Solivan, the source said, adding that Ailes’s personal lawyer, and Fox contributor, Peter Johnson Jr. advised the team. (In an email, Peter Johnson denied any involvement in “Black Room” campaigns, saying, “The only online campaign I’m aware of is yours attempting to create a truth from a fiction with this account.”)

Targets of the campaigns included journalists John Cook and Hamilton Nolan, who have aggressively covered Ailes for Gawker. According to one source, private detectives followed Cook around his Brooklyn neighborhood and Fox operatives prepared a report on him with information they intended to leak to blogs. (According to the source, one proposed line of attack claimed that Cook — whose wife, Slate news director Allison Benedikt, is Jewish — was anti-Semitic.) “I’m honored to be among Roger Ailes’s enemies,” Cook said.

Ailes also used those resources to go after local journalists, Andrea Mackris (Who accused Bill O'Reilly of sexual harassment, and the author of this New York Magazine article, Gabriel Sherman, just to name a few.

I would not be at all surprised to learn that Ailes also used them to attack journalists or bloggers who reported negatively on other on air "talent," such as Sean Hannity, Eric Bolling, and of course Sarah Palin.

(Gee, that might help to explain who paid those assholes to make up stuff about me and put in on the web back in 2009.)

I have a feeling that this is just the tip of the iceberg over at Fox News and that the really terrible stuff  concerning Roger Ailes and others is still waiting to be uncovered.

You write about this but not that the Clinton body count has gone up 5 in 2 months?

    1. Because there is no "Clinton body count."

That is more bullshit made up by the Right Wing fringe who are terrified of Hillary becoming President.

This Ailes report is from a reputable media outlet with actual journalists on staff.

Gryphen, Frozen Justice -- featured on your "Alaska Blogs and Websites" list -- contains similar anti-Clinton allegations today. I know you oppose censorship, but it seems like promoting/giving a platform to sites airing these conspiracies is counter-productive.

Ailes and tRump are so much alike. Fat, disgusting and think that because they are wealthy, they can have any woman they want. Seems that they can, but (in tRump's case) they have to polish up the credentials of their gold diggers.

  4. Ailes is the type who spies on enemies and friends because he knows his friends could one day become enemies. . . .

    Sarah?

Politicians should expect ridiculous amounts of info on themselves that Ailes has squirreled away. And I know Rupert knew about it. He hacked, tapped phones and used PIs in the UK to get dirt on people. Who knew this wasn't going to happen?

No matter who you are, you can't run a corporation as though it was your own private fiefdom. Ailes has, in my legal opinion, wasted corporate assets to the tune of millions of dollars in harassing others, sexually and otherwise. These things have obviously harmed Fox's reputation, disparage its trademark, and have no legitimate business purpose. Thus, they may well be actionable by Fox's shareholders, who can (and probably will) petition a court to require Ailes (and perhaps others) to reimburse Fox for all related expenses. Such a corporate wasting lawsuit would be separate and apart from all the litigation Ailes faces for his illegal sexual activities; any signed non-disclosure documents Ailes is relying on are probably void as a matter of public policy.

For Murdoch to give this criminal a golden parachute to the tune of $60 million only makes me question the extent of Murdoch's own knowledge and involvement in these things, and the degree to which Murdoch felt it necessary to pay Ailes to not implicate him. This network was, loosely speaking, run like a criminal enterprise in the areas controlled by Ailes and the other men in cahoots with him. Legal discovery in any case (whether employee sexual harassment suits or shareholder corporate waste actions) should prove very interesting – and ultimately very damaging to Fox.

What are the odds he knows the truth about Shailey Tripp?

    2. He knows about Trig, at least. In the back room of a ninth floor office in that same building, there exists a large safe with paper copies and a flash drive of the "statement" from Sarah Palin in the event the truth comes out, and another statement "from" Bristol which I doubt she is even aware of. It basically states that she got pregnant with Trig as a result of rape, couldn't bear to have that information be public, and begged her mother to cover for her because "she knew this life, as every life, was precious and unique".

Make no mistake, she was not raped. Dylan Kolvig is the biological father of Trig, and the $70,000 the Kolvig family has received every year for the last six years (the payoff wasn't organized until Trig was already over a year old) has been provided by Ailes and probably will continue until God knows when.

The truly staggering thing is, so many people know about this. At least a dozen inner circle fox staffers had a hand in crafting these emergency use "statements".

What is most interesting to me is that Ailes had them tidied up and ready to roll after a few different blog posts right here at immoral minority. He was SURE it was all going to come out. He's always felt CBJ was the weak link, and when Gryphen posted evidence that CBJ was clocked in at a different hospital miles away at the very minute she was supposed to be delivering Trig Palin from the governor's long dusty uterus...Ailes was positive the gig was up. After about a week when nothing happened, he commented "gotti was the Teflon don, and Sarah is the Teflon mor-on".

  12. This seems familiar to a British reader who has seen the improper and probably illegal shenaniggans of the Murdoch empire here. The payoff to Ailes is clearly hush money since he knows exactly how much creepy Rupert knows.

This includes a whole dept. dedicated to bringing down HRC. They do not want a woman president. Women will start getting ideas, and men like Ailes, and Trump will no longer get away with shit. Within every 24 hour news cycle some other crazy thing is generated into the spin cycle about Hillary. Americans that watch Fox news are just too dumb to catch on. Or they don't want to. It's hard to realize that you're being duped by people you believe in. Fox news is a male oriented, propaganda machine. Always has been, always will be. Sigh.
