Courtesy of Bloomberg:
Vladimir Putin said the hacking of thousands of Democratic National Committee emails and documents was a service to the public, but denied U.S. accusations that Russia’s government had anything to do with it.
“Listen, does it even matter who hacked this data?’’ Putin said in an interview at the Pacific port city of Vladivostok on Thursday. “The important thing is the content that was given to the public.’’
“There’s no need to distract the public’s attention from the essence of the problem by raising some minor issues connected with the search for who did it,” Putin said of the DNC breach. “But I want to tell you again, I don’t know anything about it, and on a state level Russia has never done this.”
Okay well that last statement is factually inaccurate as I think we all know that both Russia and America engage in cyber espionage all of the time.
However I found his statement "does it even matter who hacked this data" to be especially troubling as it quite closely reflects the response from Wikileaks, the Republicans, and even some Bernie supporters.
I think the answer to the question "Does it matter if a foreign government is hacking into the computers of one political party to benefit the other political party" is fairly clear.
Hell yes!
And in this election cycle the very open manner in which Russia is supporting and even working as a surrogate for the Donald Trump campaign should make the hairs on the back of our necks stand on end.
I think the Putin connection with Trump is the most frightening of all of Trump's weird behaviors and attitudes. Why is the media ignoring it so? Why is the US media, in general, so cowed by Donald Trump? Did they all have to sign non-disclosure agreements before being able to mention his trademarked/copyrighted name?

Investigative journalism is dead, Beaglemom. The media is certainly not that of my youth!
DeleteI think media and people are so desensitized to the onslaught of social media, reality shows, and the shocking things Donald has said, that people are just shrugging off his buffoonery. You know Hitler was seen as a little clown until he proved to be a deadly one. I think that the reason Donald came back from Mexico all full of fire again that some part of him was inwardly humiliated by the Mexican president. Now he really wants blood so he can feel good about himself. He will try to gain power in this country to make himself feel big. Like all the other little mean leaders out there. Our world's sorrows are caused by little buttheads.
DeleteDonald was also very angry at Morning Joe Scarborough and the song that he released the day of the Mexico foreign opportunity to raise his international standing with American voters.
DeleteThe name of Joe's song is 'Amnesty Don' in which Joe Scarborough cowboy-themed recorded some truthful personal put downs about Donald Trump in a sarcastic (snarky) humiliating way, eg, Don is a flaccid coward.
By the time Donald spoke in AZ, he was angry and red-faced at the world. I feel certain that he heard the Joe Scarborough Face Book 'release' of the cutting parody that mocked Donald Trump himself. Joe teased the twitter hastag #amnestydon and it trended on twitter, and Don was livid and took the twitter bait, hook line and sinker.
By the way, both Donald and Hillary were invited by President Pena Nieto; Hillary graciously declined, Donald did not.
Roger Ailes advised Donald not to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.
Donald does not forgive those who humiliate him; he is not a good sport, and he does not forget (and avenges) any real or perceived personal affront to his own super fragile pitiful)ego.
Remember, Donald has never gotten over President Obama's 2011 surgical put down of 'the Donald' at the Correspondents Dinner.
No one 'one ups' Donald J. Trump, the short-fingered vulgarian demogue. *gack*
Donald J. Trump is not fit in temperament for POTUS. Period, forever.

they make a nice looking couple, don't they?
ReplyDeleteWho? Donald and the horse?

ReplyDeleteI'm concerned Hillary thought "c" meant something alphabetical and not confidential. Either the system is problematic or she's stupid.
ReplyDelete@3:11, "c" might mean many things.
Delete"Vladimir Putin said the hacking of thousands of Democratic National Committee emails and documents was a service to the public,..."
ReplyDeleteSure Vlad. Now tell us what you would do to a Russian citizen or foreign national who did that to your government? Execution at sunrise? Mysterious death on the subway? Tragic airplane crash? Hmm...
Poison appears to be Vlad's choice method of ghastly execution of his enemies, real or perceived.
Deletedowl
On the one hand, I would say to Putin that it's now time to hack the GOP's emails and documents but, frankly, no foreign country has the right to interfere with the election process of another country. Imagine what the emails and documents surrounding Putin's last "election" must look like!
DeleteBeaglemom
The idea of foreigners trying to affect our election really pisses me off. We have enough problems with our own people.
ReplyDeleteOf course Vlad doesn't say what happened to anyone who has tried to hack his secret files. Heck, just running against him can be considered a state crime.
ReplyDeleteI think he's right because all of the major world powers have access to all of the important for both their allies and their enemies, so really, what does it matter?
ReplyDeleteIn this brave new world there are no secrets, as many private citizens find out daily due to social media accounts that are easily accessed by others.
Governmental data systems, ours in America at least, are working from 10 year old technology at best.
The world's "secrets" are an open book for any young computer data technician with even a modicum of talent.
And the world will become a better place when HISTORY is set straight instead of SET UP!
DeleteTrump has made a mockery of our country. The Republicans have backed him on this. It's an asshole leading assholes. Just vote Hillary and let's get back to being America again. Not Putin's lil' soon to be bitch if Trump gets voted in.
ReplyDeleteOh Sarah knows what the Russian connection is about!
ReplyDeleteShe is just pissy because she got dumped by both!
Someone needs to tell Putin 'hey don't be naked'!
ReplyDeleteDoes it matter if the Russians, Republicans or Bernie Sanders supporters hacked the computers of the US defense contractors who are working on your future weapons?
ReplyDelete“Listen, does it even matter who hacked this data?’’ Trump supporter Putin said in an interview at the Trump Tower on Thursday. “The important thing is the content that was given to the public. Also Melania is not a ho, the past is the past.’"
Speaking of Melania, what happened to her immigration press conference?
ReplyDeleteShe has to renew her Visa Mastercard so she can reenter the United States.
