Colin Powell hacked emails show him calling the Benghazi investigations a "stupid witch hunt" and referring to Donald Trump as a "national disgrace."

Courtesy of TPM:

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell dismissed the years-long Republican outcry over the 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya as “a stupid witch hunt” in leaked emails published by BuzzFeed News on Tuesday.

“Benghazi is a stupid witch hunt. Basic fault falls on a courageous ambassador who thoughts Libyans now love me and I am ok in this very vulnerable place,” Powell wrote in a December 2015 email to former Secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, according to BuzzFeed.

His email refers to Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, one of four Americans killed in the 2012 raid.

I think this is my favorite tidbit of information because it confirms what those of us on the Left have been saying for years.

However that was by no means the ONLY explosive bit of information exposed by this hack.

Courtesy of the Buzzfeed:

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a retired four-star general who served under three Republican presidents, slammed GOP nominee Donald Trump as “a national disgrace” and an “international pariah,” according to his personal emails seen by BuzzFeed News.

The remarks came in a June 17, 2016, email to Emily Miller, a journalist who was once Powell’s aide. In that same email Powell also said Trump “is in the process of destroying himself, no need for Dems to attack him. [Speaker of the House] Paul Ryan is calibrating his position again.

”In an Aug. 21 email from Powell to Miller, he blasted Trump for embarking on a “racist” movement that believes President Obama was not born in the US.

“Yup, the whole birther movement was racist,” Powell wrote. “That’s what the 99% believe. When Trump couldn’t keep that up he said he also wanted to see if the certificate noted that he was a Muslim.”

So apparently Colin Powell has the same opinion of Donald Trump as every other rational halfway intelligent person in this country.  Most of who are apparently NOT members of the Republican party.

In other e-mails shared by CNN Powell also expressed irritation with Hillary Clinton and her team for drawing him into the whole e-mail investigation kerfuffle:

"The only thing I would add is to simply say she had a private account on a public server before becoming SecState and continued to use it when she became SecState. On the other hand this might to lead to questions about the basement," Powell said.

His main point seems to be that he advised her to use a private e-mail address, but not a private server which in his eyes is completely different. However he also fails to mention that the entire Bush administration used the RNC's private email server and then deleted 22 million emails which was against the law.

Which does not do much to support his faux outrage over Hillary's choices.

It's definitely a witch hunt and I must say to maintain fairness that email critics are NO different from the obsessives who criticized Palin for yahoo acct, something most people do.

It depends on the rules/laws in place at the time. My understanding is that the federal government is way behind technology in regulations. I worked for a state college and we were told to do all communications with students on a college account so there was a record of the conversation.

      I didn't because I'm a rebel ;)

Donald Trump’s appearance at an African-American church in Flint generated attention on Wednesday — but probably not the kind he was looking for.

As the footage spread online of Rev. Green Faith Timmons stopping Trump for politicizing his remarks, the Republican presidential nominee was heckled online for what was called an attempt to exploit the city’s water crisis for the sake of a photo opportunity, as seen below.

How absolutely predictable that the Republican with the hacked emails is criticizing the Democrat with the NOT hacked emails.

Donald Trump filled out a survey about science reinforcing the fact that he is an uneducated, close minded, ignorant buffoon.

I'm only half way through and all I can say is Donald Trump is pretty pitiful when even Jill Stein has better answers than he does.

Of course, I imagine that military academy he was shipped off to was more concerned with his behavior than his scholarship. So two fails for them.

      Holy moly.

You can see his attention span evaporate as he answers each question. Not that there is any substance there to begin with.

I'm surprised he just didn't write "I have people to take care of that" for every question.

Interesting? If "they" hacked Powell's emails would he not have hundreds of republican emails and rnc on it too?

He was a part of the secret RNC email network that hid the criminal activities of the Bush administration. I'm sure none of them ever forgot which was the criminal activity email address and which was the government email address.

Powell didn't use an rnc address. He used an aol address from a desktop computer on a desk in his office.

Rice didn't send email at all.

AG Alberto Gonzalez didn't use it.

Gryphen's statement "the entire Bush administration used the RNC's private email server" is untrue. It was White House staff who used it. 88 accounts. Backed up by the report of the House investigation. When you find yourself using all, always, entire, everyone, never, nobody, it's a good idea to check yourself whether you can back up the extreme. Often not.

To be fair, he also criticized HRC also for doing dumb things. He also said he'd hope he didn't have to vote for her. I think he's in a jam on who to vote for. My guess he doesn't vote for Pres.

Oh my, I'm so surprised that you didn't include the rest of his remarks re HRC. They included words like "sleaze" and "hubris", and BTW, also put blame for Benghazi on her. Ya know, when you cherry pick stuff out of articles that we can also read, you just look silly.

It's time for Colin Powell to made a decision.

Who is he going to vote for?

What is most interesting of all is the anecdote he chose to illustrate how it shouldn't matter at all whether Obama is a Muslim or not.

It was the Khan's son's gravestone.

The family that Trump attacked so viciously.

"POWELL: I’m also troubled by, not what Senator McCain says, but what members of the party say. And it is permitted to be said such things as, “Well, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim.” Well, the correct answer is, he is not a Muslim, he’s a Christian. He’s always been a Christian. But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer’s no, that’s not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, “He’s a Muslim and he might be associated terrorists.” This is not the way we should be doing it in America.

I feel strongly about this particular point because of a picture I saw in a magazine. It was a photo essay about troops who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. And one picture at the tail end of this photo essay was of a mother in Arlington Cemetery, and she had her head on the headstone of her son’s grave. And as the picture focused in, you could see the writing on the headstone. And it gave his awards―Purple Heart, Bronze Star―showed that he died in Iraq, gave his date of birth, date of death. He was 20 years old. And then, at the very top of the headstone, it didn’t have a Christian cross, it didn’t have the Star of David, it had crescent and a star of the Islamic faith. And his name was Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, and he was an American. He was born in New Jersey. He was 14 years old at the time of 9/11, and he waited until he can go serve his country, and he gave his life. Now, we have got to stop polarizing ourself in this way. And John McCain is as nondiscriminatory as anyone I know. But I’m troubled about the fact that, within the party, we have these kinds of expressions."

I find it very hard to believe that Colin Powell would vote for Donald Trump.

Whether he votes for Hillary Clinton is another story.
