A deeper dive into the FBI's investigation into these "new" e-mails.

Courtesy of Newsweek:

This new evidence relates to how Abedin managed her emails. She maintained four email accounts—an unclassified State Department account, another on the clintonemail.com domain and a third on Yahoo. The fourth was linked to her husband’s account; she used it to support his activities when he was running for Congress, investigative records show. Abedin, who did not know Clinton used a private server for her emails, told the bureau in an April interview that she used the account on the clintonemail.com domain only for issues related to the Secretary’s personal affairs, such as communicating with her friends. For work-related records, Abedin primarily used the email account provided to her by the State Department.

Because Clinton preferred to read documents on paper rather than on a screen, emails and other files were often printed out and provided to her either at her office or home, where they were delivered in a diplomatic pouch by a security agent. Abedin, like many State Department officials, found the government network technology to be cumbersome, and she had great trouble printing documents there, investigative records show. As a result, she sometimes transferred emails from her unclassified State Department account to either her Yahoo account or her account on Clinton’s server, and printed the emails from there. It is not clear whether she ever transferred official emails to the account she used for her husband’s campaign.

Abedin would use this procedure for printing documents when she received emails she believed Clinton needed to see and when the Secretary forwarded emails to her for printing. Abedin told the FBI she would often print these emails without reading them. Abedin printed a large number of emails this way, in part because, investigative records show, other staff members considered her Clinton’s “gatekeeper” and often sent Abedin electronic communications they wanted the Secretary to see.

This procedure for printing documents, the government official says, appears to be how the newly discovered emails ended up on the laptop shared by Abedin and her husband. It is unclear whether any of those documents were downloaded onto the laptop off of her personal email accounts or were saved on an external storage device, such as a flash drive, and then transferred to the shared computer. There is also evidence that the laptop was used to send emails from Abedin to Clinton; however, none of those emails are the ones being examined by the FBI. Moreover, unless she was told by Abedin in every instance, Clinton could not have known what device her aide was using to transmit electronic information to her.

The article goes on to say that the only way there would be any criminal charges here is if there were proof that Abedin intended to disclose what was in classified documents, or purposefully mishandled classified documents, which is highly unlikely since she has already provided testimony to Congress about this same topic.

Besides if none of the documents are considered classified, which is the most likely scenario, then none of this even warrants an investigation at all.
Simply put, this is another nothing burger that Donald Trump and the Republicans get to exaggerate all out of proportion during the final days of a presidential campaign, with the added ingredient of Anthony Weiner to make it seem all the more unsavory.

Well how's this one thing for starters: Huma Abedin testified under oath that she'd turned over every device that contained State Dept-related work product.

Why could what Huma Abedin did be a black eye to Clinton? Huma is Clinton's closest aide and confidante. The two ride in a separate section of the campaign plane, separate from even Mook and Podesta. If it's emails on this computer, sure many of them could be duplicates. However, if any of them are among the ones that contained classifed information when they were sent, it could jeopardize Huma's security clearance. How can someone without security clearance be a key advisor to a president? Clinton would have ot cut her loose. It would be embarrassing and personally difficult for both of them. Which would be sad because in the deposition for the FOIA case, Huma came across as quite sincere and honest.

It would be so wonderful to live in a country where the media didn't just go into a tizzy ever fifteen minutes. I understand that the reporters out there are bored but, really, why couldn't they ask a few questions and learn some facts before making up headlines. We were out of town for the last two days. I only saw some NYT headlines. One would think the sky had fallen. I was pleased to be reassured by Policiususa and other "friendly" sources that the sky was still up there.

Anon at 2:31 pm. Part of me is "lovin' the tizzy" when there's negative stuff in the media about Trump but a larger part of me would like the media to focus on what the candidates' proposed policies are and how they would affect most Americans. All of this has become pretty insane and I just want it all to end. Of course, I want it to end in a resounding victory for Hillary Clinton, but I want it to end nonetheless.

I would like laws passed that would force candidates of both parties not to announce their runs for the White House until January of the election year, for the primary debates to be limited to three and the nominees' debates after the conventions also to be limited to three, all over before the last month. I'd also like a media blackout for the last week. It will, of course, never happen because we have round-the-clock news on radio, television, and internet. Too much time and money are needed in today's world for presidential campaigns.

1:58 the problem with "friendly" sources is that a lot of Americans don't read them to know the other side of a story.

No, you're wrong. Actually, I cringe every time there's a new 'tizzy' about Trump because it horrifies me that someone like him could be the GOP candidate for President. Every new revelation or scandal demonstrates how incredibly dangerous it would be for that man to become President. It also clearly shows how low our political system has sunk that millions of people think he's qualified and thousands of Republican politicians KNOW he's a direct threat to the safety and security of our country but are endorsing him anyway.

No longer is the United States' electoral system held up as a model for the world, except as an example of what NOT to do.

Back in the mid 90's I worked with a woman that would print out her emails so she could read them. She just didn't get it, she just would not embrace technology.

We didn't get it then and I certainly don't understand it now. Wasting paper to read digital communications is something that your grandmother does. It is very odd and hopefully Hillary has a new understanding of how it all works.

Many people find it easier to read and annotate a piece of paper rather than reading and annotating using a screen, mice, and keyboards. It doesn't have anything to do with age or "wasting" paper.

I agree, Nefer, and I think your daughter is right. My husband's been working on a long article and, when he nears the end, he prints it out to read it carefully and make his major textual edits. It's also the best way to find where you may have been repetitive, or contradictory or made another kind of error. it's not so easy to compare the first ten pages of a 30 to 40 page document and the middle section and the final section and conclusion when you're simply reading the pages on a screen.

I can certainly understand why anyone in a sensitive position would want to have an entire document in hand to consider it seriously.

sting paper", what a yawn you are. pulp used to make paper is made from trees with a short growth time and thus are a renewable resource and thus is not a "waste" since there is no shortage.
BTW if you ever get a job that does not consist of asking "do you want fries with that" you would then learn that having hard copies of any communications is a common thing. Servers can go down or be infected but paper, if stored properly, can last for thousands of yrs.
More than once having a paper copy has saved a customer money as well as those times it has saved a company from getting know what those are.
Now run along and get my damned order right next time.

Come into at least the '90s with your thinking on resources, 4:45. It takes more than trees to make paper, dumbass. And storing on paper? In 2016? Warehouse-fuls of paper fit on a portable hard drive. You know what that is, don't you?

It's 2016 and you believe storing paper in case of a server crash saves customers money? You just don't know how backups are done by serious companies, how they've been done since the '90s.

Judging from your obvious lack of knowledge about modern technology, you're probably not qualified to take orders at a 2016 McDonalds.

I have exactly zero books in my home at this point and it feels so good as they were just dust collectors and space hogs.

Same with digital media, we found a DVD the other day under the couch while moving furniture and we had a good laugh about it.

There used to be so much "stuff" required to read or watch movies but now it's all on the cloud or through your subscriptions and there is zero tactile mess involved, which feels really good.

I do not lament the demise of physical books or DVD's and CD's, it was a lot of wasted material resources and life is so much cleaner with everything being amorphously stored digitally and accessible from anywhere, anytime. I love it!

I think Comey got the word that if he didn't inform Congress, people within the FBI were going to leak it. So better to write an ambiguous, uninformative letter to Congress followed by leaks, than leaks followed by Comey having to 'splain why he didn't inform Congress that his testimony that the email investigation was complete was no longer true.Maybe better for no one but Comey, but I think he knew the info was coming out whether he informed Congress or not.

Comey’s October Surprise Blows Up In His Face As Democrats Drop The Hammer On FBI Boss

Senate Democrats aren't playing around with FBI Director James Comey. Four top Democrats sent Comey and Attorney General Loretta Lynch a letter demanding details on the emails that the FBI is investigating by Monday.

...Senate Democrats aren’t fooling around. They want answers, and they want them right now. As more details become known, FBI Director Comey’s motives have come under criticism. Comey was advised by Attorney General Lynch not to send his letter until after the election, but he sent it anyway.

Comey worried to FBI employees that his letter would be misunderstood, but he could have easily avoided any misunderstanding by either being specific in his letter or not sending the letter at all. It is becoming difficult to look at Comey’s actions in an objective manner and not see partisan political motivations.

TEN DAYS TO GO, THIS IS WHAT AMERICA SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT

    Raw Story-
10 Ways Trump Broke the Law and Got Away with It: Putting the Latest Clinton Email Media Frenzy in Perspective

With 11 days to go before Election Day, the FBI’s announcement Friday that the bureau is reopening its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while Secretary of State may be 2016’s October surprise, inflaming an already scorched race.

But nobody should confuse Clinton’s unfortunate use of a private email system in which a handful of classified messages seeped into the tens of thousands sent and received with Donald Trump’s lifetime of borderline criminality, as evidenced by being sued more than 4,500 times for his business practices, his extensive bilking of small businesses, his deliberate tax evasions, and his on-camera boasts of sexual assaults....

.... What’s lost in the media frenzy over the FBI investigation is that Clinton’s mishandling of several dozen emails simply cannot be compared to Trump’s outrageous history of bending or breaking the law, and getting away with it.

“Trump launched his campaign with fraud, as the Trump Tower crowd that interrupted him 43 times with applause on June 16, 2015, consisted of actors paid fifty bucks apiece,” David Cay Johnston, an investigative reporter who has covered Trump since the 1980s and is the author of The Making of Donald Trump, wrote earlier this week. “For his whole life, Trump has cheated workers, shortchanges small business owners and ripped off investors, as courts have determined in some of the 4,500 Trump lawsuits.”

Here are 10 examples of Trump’s borderline or admitted criminality, all taken from The Making of Donald Trump, a book with 44 pages of source notes, and subsequent articles and interviews with Johnston....

    WHY? WHY COMEY? WHY FBI?

THESE PEOPLE STILL DON'T HAVE A WARRANT TO LOOK AT WHAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE

9 DAYS TO ELECTION AND THE FBI THROWS THIS OUT THERE

    Raw Story-
‘We do not have a warrant’: FBI admits Comey jumped the gun with Clinton email announcement

As of Saturday night, the Federal Bureau of Investigation still did not have a warrant to view the emails it is purportedly investigating in the reopening of its case regarding Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State.

Yahoo News reporter Michael Isikoff attempted to question FBI officials about the contents of the emails alluded to by Director James Comey on Friday, but found that the officials themselves have yet to view the emails. So far, they’ve been unable to obtain legal authorization to do so.

An official told Isikoff that Comey “had no idea what was in the content of the emails” when he sent his letter to Congress on Friday advising them that he is reviewing new materials that may prove pertinent to the investigation against Clinton.

The Justice Department has not granted approval for FBI agents to examine the materials, so FBI officials have no idea whether the emails contain sensitive or incriminating information or anything investigators have seen before.

“We do not have a warrant,” a senior law enforcement official told Isikoff. “Discussions are under way [between the FBI and the Justice Department] as to the best way to move forward.”

The new emails were found during an investigation into disgraced Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner (NY) and his sexting relationship with a teen girl.

Isikoff noted that the fact that the FBI has no idea of the contents of the emails is important because members of Donald Trump’s media team have insisted that the FBI would not be reopening the investigation if it hadn’t found something significant.....

    Raw Story:
‘Think of the bunker right before Hitler killed himself’: Insiders say Trump’s campaign is imploding

In a revealing behind-the-scenes look at the chaotic Donald Trump campaign, insiders describe a floundering operation with a feckless egomaniac at its helm who has no grasp of how badly things are spinning out of control.

“Think of the bunker right before Hitler killed himself,” said one anonymous campaign staffer to New York Magazine’s Gabriel Sherman. “Donald’s in denial. They’re all in denial.”

The mood in Trump Tower, Sherman reported, has vacillated between gloom, rage, denial and then brief glee on Friday when the FBI reported that the agency is reviewing new materials in the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State.

The New York article details what many observers have long suspected. Trump’s inability to discipline himself as a candidate has ultimately been his undoing. Advisers and aides can offer advice, but as one Republican donor said,

“Trump has the following personality: NIH-NFW, meaning ‘If it’s not invented here, not invented behind these eyes, then it’s no fucking way.’ ”

Trump batted aside suggestions that he should not have attacked the Khan family, Muslim-Americans whose son perished in Iraq.

“You do know you just attacked a Gold Star family?” one adviser reportedly told Trump.

The candidate had no idea what a Gold Star family is: “What’s that?” he asked.

As Trump has trended downward in the polls, conservatives both for and against his presidency have looked on with a mixture of pity, disappointment and despair.

New York Times conservative columnist echoed the adviser who compared the situation to Hitler’s bunker. In a tweet on Friday, he said, “In Trumpworld as Hitler’s Bunker terms,” the re-opening of the FBI investigation is “like when Goebbels thought FDR’s death would save the Nazi regime.”

The article also said that Trump TV is becoming less and less of a foregone conclusion.

“It’s too expensive. Trump won’t put his own money in,” said one prominent Republican to Sherman. Campaign CEO Steve Bannon said that the launch of a new media venture seems unlikely and that he plans to return to Breitbart.com after the election.

Key media adviser Roger Ailes has walked away from the campaign last summer, citing Trump’s inability to focus on debate preparation and stay on message.

Another key indicator that things are going badly for the campaign is the fact that advisers, spokespersons and other campaign staff are positioning themselves for what they will do after the election loss.....

More than likely this is a assage and snowdin hack job for immunity from trump if elected. Huma should resign anyway and take care of her personal life. It is one less headache for Hillary. Huma is a rump card. She must go along with comey if he too has personal problems.
