The AP and USA Today combine forces to study just how any children are dying from gun violence in this country every year.

Here is what the study found as reported by the New York Daily News:

The findings: During the first six months of this year, minors died from accidental shootings — at their own hands, or at the hands of other children or adults — at a pace of one every other day, far more than limited federal statistics indicate.

Using information collected by the Gun Violence Archive, a nonpartisan research group, news reports and public sources, the media outlets spent six months analyzing the circumstances of every death and injury from accidental shootings involving children ages 17 and younger from Jan. 1, 2014, to June 30 of this year — more than 1,000 incidents in all. Among the findings:

— Deaths and injuries spike for children under 5, with 3-year-olds the most common shooters and victims among young children. Nearly 90 3-year-olds were killed or injured in the shootings, the vast majority of which were self-inflicted.

— Accidental shootings spike again for ages 15-17, when victims are most often fatally shot by other children but typically survive self-inflicted gunshots.

— They most often happen at the children's homes, with handguns legally owned by adults for self-protection. They are more likely to occur on weekends or around holidays such as Christmas.

— States in the South, including Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia, are among those with the highest per capita rates of accidental shootings involving minors.

In all, more than 320 minors age 17 and under and more than 30 adults were killed in accidental shootings involving minors. Nearly 700 other children and 78 adults were injured.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 74 minors died from accidental discharges of firearms in 2014, the latest year for which comparable data are available. The AP and USA TODAY analysis counted 113 for that year, suggesting the federal government missed a third of the cases.

Great, so now we know that the information that we had which horrified us concerning the number of children dying due to gun violence, is actually watered down and the REAL numbers are even more horrific.

And all it does is to reinforce the knowledge that the guns people buy to protect their families actually put their families at greater risk.

Just try to imagine how many more children would be alive today without the 2nd Amendment to protect us in this country.

So how many Americans were killed in this country by ISIS this year? By Muslim extremists? By proud NRA 2nd amendment nuts? By RW card-carrying militias who want to take down our government?
Yeah, GOP, spin that however you want. YOU are killing our kids.

You know why I think more people would vote for Bill over Hillary today?

Because Bill comes across as genuine. He's an asshole for sure and I'm not excluding him as a person who hires hitmen. But he's genuine as fuck.

Hillary is faker than Kim K's Paris robbery.

The one time she was filmed showed a silly sense of humor by exaggerating startled reflex by jerking her head back and forth, you drumpfers claimed she was sick with paarkinsons or brain damage. Plus a woman in public must always act the lady. Double standard since male repubs aren't required to be gentlemen. The louder and more outrageous the more you think they are strong leaders.

Callous response: At least, so many less future welfare recipients, and so many fewer mouths to feed.

But: dammit!!! What does it take to get these statistics lowered? Because - for sure! - we cannot take any or all of those guns away from people once they own them legally. I wish there was something, where you just wave a wand, and all the guns become inoperable, FOR GOOD!

This is horrifying and can only get worse as sales continue to increase for hand guns over long guns. How does this happen in the land of the brave? What kind of country is it that is unable to apply 21st century reality to 18th century language?

Yes and what about the non-fatal injuries? This week in the county next to mine, a two year got ahold of a loaded 22 and shot 4 month old baby sister in the arm.

OT? VOTE OUT little donnie no longer Young "wetback" prick Congressman. started in congress in 1973 >Never left..
"He is the longest-serving member ever of the United States House of Representatives" He first ran for Congress in 1972, but lost to incumbent Democrat Nick Begich, who disappeared in a plane crash days before the election. Begich was declared legally dead in December 1972 and Young won the resulting special election in March 1973. Young has been re-elected twenty-one times"
in 2004, Young was answering questions about cutting federal funding for the arts. He said that such funding had "photographs of people doing offensive things," and "things that are absolutely ridiculous." When asked for an example, Young quickly replied "buttfucking", in reference to Robert Mapplethorpe's photographic exhibition The Perfect Moment.[91][92] After receiving criticism for the use of that obscenity, Young explained his choice of words by saying he had tried 'to educate' teens.
"I am profoundly and genuinely sorry for the pain it has caused the Alaskan people." NO HE IS NOT!
Young made sure to clarify he does not "deeply respect the press at all on this issue," comparing the crowd of reporters working late into the night as "crows leaning over the edge" from the press gallery above the floor."

I have never understood the trend this last few years on gun fetish and the extreme paranoia. Yes our country is threatened not only by foreign enemy but enemy living within our borders. And the odd fetish of flooding our streets with assault weapons and putting extra threat to our law enforcement is OUTRAGEOUS. Wake up. Stop the sale of military weapons to public. If you buy a gun you must go through intensive hoops to own. etc etc. And face it, morons, abusers, liars must not be permitted to own a gun.

"A judge on Friday dismissed a wrongful-death lawsuit by Newtown families against the maker of the rifle used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting massacre, citing an embattled federal law that shields gun manufacturers from most lawsuits over criminal use of their products."

Only in America can a killing device be so honored that people must keep their guns close to them despite easy access by children. It is like a religious icon in some homes, prominently displayed and worshiped as coming directly from God.

It also sends innocent people to God at an alarming rate. However, the Second Amendment right to "bear arms" is sacrosanct and must never be changed.

I hope they can actually do this study, just the amount you post here is enough to make you sick, imagine what the real stories are. Guns became absolute necessity when Obama was elected, Tea Party rose up and all greatly encouraged by Fox. The lie of Obama taking your guns away was all they needed to expand the fear and give the manufacturers a huge win....backing the NRA machine. The last debate is here in Las Vegas and of course these rednecks have open carry. I watch for them where ever I go and leave if I see any. The 2nd amendment clearly says a well armed militia...period.

One of the true obscenities is that our elected officials put lobbyists and partisanship over the wellbeing of the citizens of this country when they made it illegal for the gun studies.

It is beyond time that that law is overturned and we gather as much data as we can as quickly as we can.

I'm sick and tired of reading it, and suspect it's more than one every other day. We have crazy people with road rage and weapon grade ammo only a soldier should have, we can't even converse with these people because they let their finger do the talking, and it's the innocents that are hurt or die. Until they listen when mothers and fathers of the loss grieve and see what toll it takes can they understand the loss.
