A little good news for those of us living in Anchorage, it looks like our serial killer may have been neutralized.

A gun used to shoot a police officer Saturday morning was the same weapon used in at least five homicides in the city so far this year, including two unsolved double homicides, Anchorage police said Tuesday.

The Anchorage Police Department officer who was wounded, Arn Salao, was shot four times and underwent two surgeries after the confrontation, but was recovering and expected to survive. The suspect, 40-year-old James Dale Ritchie, was killed after Salao and Sgt. Marc Patzke — who arrived during the shootout — returned fire, police said.

"We know from our investigation in the last 78 hours that the gun used to attempt to kill officer Salao was the same gun used in five other homicides here in Anchorage in 2016," APD Chief Chris Tolley said at a news conference Tuesday.

The police are not yet closing the investigation, as there are still a few threads to tie up, but it appears that Anchorage residents can relax a little.

For now at least.

You forgot to include the 'snark' with your comment perhaps?
I have glaucoma, and even I can see that their sketch artist needs to be fired! That drawing looks nothing like the dude, saving for 1 white, 2 long haired, and 3 both faces have eyebrows. That describes quite a few humans out there.

I don't think there's that much likeness between the sketch and the photo. The bone structure of the sketched face is totally different. And the pose in the sketch looks more like a poorly-done holy card saint than a criminal.

The Arctic is warming twice as fast as any place on the planet. Can native villages in northernmost Alaska survive climate change?

No, you can tell by the clean looking nongreasy hair that it's not a Palin.

The police also apprehended the thug that beat 2 people in Mountain View and and nearly killed a man during a home invasion. They caught one of the dirtbags, hopefully he'll give up the other 4 shitbags; he gave police their "street names" so hopefully they will find them and lock them away forever, or do as they did with Mr. Ritchie, the serial killer, and just put a few bullets in 'em and remove them from the streets forever.

An upswing in gang violence partnered with the new lax sentencing structure is making Anchorage a pretty scary place.

They look similar enough, maybe some tweezing or waxing might help, maybe not, but it can't hurt more than the new buddies they'll be meeting up with.
