The Washington Post reminds us of the biggest news from this election, that the Russians helped to steal this election from us.

What is that I hear? The whining of Democrats over the fact that I undermined their democracy? Sucks to me you.
Courtesy of WaPo:

In assessing Donald Trump’s presidential victory, Americans continue to look away from this election’s most alarming story: the successful effort by a hostile foreign power to manipulate public opinion before the vote.

U.S. intelligence agencies determined that the Russian government actively interfered in our elections. Russian state propaganda gave little doubt that this was done to support President-elect Trump, who repeatedly praised Vladimir Putin and excused the Russian president’s foreign aggression and domestic repression. Most significantly, U.S. intelligence agencies have affirmed that the Russian government directed the illegal hacking of private email accounts of the Democratic National Committee and prominent individuals. The emails were then released by WikiLeaks, which has benefited financially from a Russian state propaganda arm, used Russian operatives for security and made clear an intent to harm the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.

From the Russian perspective, the success of this operation can hardly be overstated. News stories on the DNC emails released in July served to disrupt the Democratic National Convention, instigate political infighting and suggest for some supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) — without any real proof — that the Democratic primary had been “rigged” against their candidate. On Oct. 7, WikiLeaks began near daily dumps from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s email account, generating a month of largely negative reporting on Clinton, her campaign staff, her husband and their foundation. With some exceptions, there was little news in the email beyond political gossip and things the media had covered before, now revisited from a seemingly “hidden” viewpoint.

Russian (and former communist) propaganda has traditionally worked exactly this way: The more you “report” something negatively, the more the negative is true. Trump and supportive media outlets adopted the technique and reveled in information gained from the illegal Russian hacking (as well as many “fake news” stories that evidence suggests were generated by Russian intelligence operations) to make exaggerated claims (“Hillary wants to open borders to 600 million people!”) or to accuse Clinton of illegality, corruption and, ironically, treasonous behavior.

Part of the Russian operation’s success is that we cannot measure the effect. Did the DNC emails depress the Sanders vote for Clinton? Did the Podesta emails turn off independents? Would voters have responded differently if major media had reported the email releases not as legitimate news but as an intelligence operation by a hostile foreign power aimed at undermining the integrity of U.S. elections? There are no clear answers. But there are certainties: The email operation increased negative stories about Clinton, fueled an immense propaganda attack and diminished coverage of actual issues. The large polling lead Clinton gained after the debates slipped significantly under this barrage of negativity — even before FBI Director James B. Comey’s bombshell.

The Post goes on to ask why there are no Congressional investigations into this, or how the Republicans can possibly accept outside intervention into our most important national election?

The answer of course is obvious, the outcome benefits the Republicans. So they will do nothing.

The real question to ask is where in the hell are the Democrats?

If the shoe were on the other foot the Republicans would make it job one to discredit the president-elect, and undermine the process by which they were chosen. I mean hell they damn near destroyed Hillary over some fucking e-mails!

But Democrats? Nah, they are the party of let's do the right thing for the country, and let's heal the wounds before they bleed dissension to every corner of the continent.

Well you know what? I think we could use a little dissension right now.

P.S. Here are a few more facts for you to digest about how the Russians accomplished what they accomplished.

St Ronnie is rolling over in his grave; the republican party is the Evil Empire’s puppet.

Not only where are the Democrats, but where is the media?

The russians were in communication with the trump campaign, I don’t think they were exchanging recipes for borscht. That is treason, where is the outrage from of leaders?

I find it hard to believe that Obama's administration is going to say, oh well, the Russian's influenced our election, there goes my legacy. Can't their be a December surprise, where the DOJ can connect the dots and throw the orange con man in the Big House (not the White one) for treason? Or is it only a crime if a Clinton is involved?

    1. I don't think there are any laws in place to do anything about overthrowing the results of an election even if obvious, blatant fraud can prove the election was stolen. I've never heard of any.

I suppose the electoral college could, as that is what they were put in place as a safeguard to do, but I doubt at this point they would do anything. Not even if there was irrefutable proof Trump and the Republicans committed fraud to get him elected. They'd still confirm him.

The voting recount has absolutely nothing to do with changing the results of the election. Almost certainly, it will just reinforce what we already know and while some votes might shift one way or the other, it is highly unlikely that this recount will change anything. But it HAS to happen. When irregularities or inconsistencies are noted and the integrity of a voting system is in question, it is an absolutely necessary exercise of our voting process to audit the irregularities and insure both transparency and accountability.

Even if you're on the "winning side," as a voting American you should be encouraging this review of the votes because if we lose the integrity of our voting system and allow irregularities to pass unchallenged, we lose our faith in the system and render it untenable.

Let it work the way it's supposed to. It's not costing taxpayer money, it's not going to change the results, and it's going to help us maintain the validity of our voting process as a whole.
It's not some tantrum by the losing side or, if it is, it also happens to coincide admirably with more noble purposes such as making sure our votes are respected and handled responsibly, which matters to all of us.

Even if the recount does not alter the end result, let's hope that it will put to rest the falsehood that the GOP is always the victim in election fraud. In fact, the GOP is the perpetrator.

President-elect Donald Trump’s recent appointment of Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary again provides more evidence that this administration aims not only to undermine public education and the public sector at large, constituting a direct assault on democracy, but also to further a two-tiered society of haves and have-nots by making access to quality education increasingly inaccessible to the children of working-class and middle-class families.

MEET BETSY DeVos, PICKED TO BE DONALD TRUMP'S SECRETARY OF EDUCATION

    # Father-in-law co-founder of Amway

    # Billionaire?

True. DeVos (born Elizabeth Prince) is the daughter of the late Edgar Prince, a wealthy industrialist, sister of Erik Prince, founder of Blackwater USA, and wife of Dick DeVos, entrepreneur and heir to the fortune of Amway founder Richard DeVos, valued at about $6 billion. With her husband, she co-owns the Windquest Group, a technology investment firm

    # No education degree?

True. DeVos does have a degree, just not in education

    # No experience working in a school environment?

True. Apart from serving as chairperson of the investment business she owns with her husband, DeVos work experience has revolved around philanthropy and political advocacy, though much of that pertained to educational issues.

    # Never attended public school or state university?

Undetermined. We know that DeVos attended a private high school (Holland Christian High School in Holland, Michigan), and a private Christian college (Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan). We have not found a record of where she received her elementary and middle school education, though it's likely she attended Christian schools.

    # Never put her own children in public school?

True. (At least according to Associated Press, which reported that none of Betsy and Rick DeVos' four children attended public schools.)

    # Does not believe in or support public education?

Mixture. Based on her statements, DeVos advocates on behalf of "school choice," meaning she believes all families should have access to more educational options than just public schools. That doesn't, on the face of it, preclude support for public education, though DeVos' critics would argue that redirecting public monies to private schools via vouchers or other schemes is tantamount to defunding the public school system.

    # Supports for-profit education

True. At least, insofar as DeVos favors the proliferation of charter schools, some of which are organized as for-profit businesses.

    # Invested $200 million in Christian schools and organizations

True (though misleading). Through their nonprofit organization, the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation, Betsy and her husband have given hundreds of millions of dollars to a great many schools and organizations, some of which are identified as "Christian."

    # Doggedly advocates funneling money out of public education and into for-profit, Christian-based education

Partly true. As noted above, DeVos has long been an advocate for "school choice," which does involve, to some extent, funneling money away from public schools and toward private educational options, some of which may be for-profit, and some of which may be Christian-based.

  16. The Russians, Wikileaks, the FBI, the Board of Elections in North Carolina, the missing absentee ballots in Florida and now the discrepancies in four Wisconsin counties now corrected and being passed of as a clerical error.

You know why the Republicans do this shit? Because every time they get away with it. They became really bold this time. And why not?

The Democrats never question and never make waves. They just accept it even if the cheating is blatant. They go so far as to pledge to heal wounds, unite the country and cooperate with the winners. Give Trump a chance.

    Really?

    Fuck that.

This country has absolutely NO process in place for doing anything about a corrupt and fraudulent election. Nothing.

The only thing we have is the electoral college. They will simply rubber stamp the results because their guy won. So we might as well get rid of them too since they can't do the job they were set up for.

Mark my words, if every situation was reversed and it was the Russians hacking Trump, Wikileaks damaging Trump, the FBI releasing a letter about Trump's ties to Russia and that server and then the voting discrepancies favoring Hillary, they GOP would be screaming bloody murder and the Deplorables would be grabbing their guns and rioting in the streets. There would be civil unrest like we've never had before.

This is why they cheat. Because they know the Democrats will allow it and no one will do anything about it.

Let's face it. No one in the national media was the least bit interested in pursuing the Russian connection story late last spring. If the media even mentioned Hillary Clinton it was to whine about the emails. Week after week.

If President Obama had sought to do anything directly aggressive months ago about the strong suspicions that Trump and his cohort were too tied to Russia, the media would have done its best to destroy him for even raising the possibility. The media, from the NYTimes ("much ado about nothing") to Fox Fake News (which most of the country sees on live stream - at home, in every eatery, bar, doctor's office and car repair place they visit), made light of what was going on or accused the Democrats of being paranoid or lying. Remember that Manafort resigned (and supposedly disappeared) and CNN took on Corey Lewandowski when the story about his connections got a little too close for comfort for him and he "resigned" from the Trump campaign (but stayed on the payroll). I'm personally very glad that the Washington Post has pursued the story. Otherwise, we'd be totally in the dark.

The GOP should be mightily alarmed about what they have wrought.

What scares me is that, in less than two years' time, the new US will likely have made a total mess of international relations and Russia will have retaken the finally liberated and independent Baltic states, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Russia lusts after those three tiny countries. There will be only two world powers by then: Russia and China. God help us all.
