Anti-science Christians sign petition urging future VP to ban the teaching of Evolution.

Here is the petition in question:

To Mike Pence, Vice-President of the United States of America:

We the undersigned note that, when you were a member of the U.S House of Representatives, you spoke out on the subject of science education and for presenting students with all available information. Recently, we have seen the passage of academic freedom bills in Louisiana and Tennessee which have allowed for critical evaluation in the classroom and improved educational standards. However, whilst an important development, they were only enacted owing to the need to protect students from indoctrination. We object to the teaching of the very controversial theory of evolution as part of the K-12 science curriculum which we regard to be unnecessary and unhelpful.

It is obvious to us that Evolutionism-Darwinism is an anti-Christian atheistic dogma masquerading as science. According to renown philosopher of science, Professor Michael Ruse, himself an ardent evolutionist, there is no doubt that the theory of evolution represents a philosophical worldview: “Evolution is promoted by its practitioners as more than mere science. Evolution is promulgated as an ideology, a secular religion—a full-fledged alternative to Christianity.”

Evolutionists, indeed, themselves speak about their “theory” with an unmistakably religious fervour.

The petition then goes on to trip all over itself misrepresenting, and misunderstanding the science in order to claim that Evolution is false and should not be taught to children.

Now this would usually be dismissed as laughable as Mike Pence really does not have the power to simply strip the teaching of Evolution from school books in every classroom, and in every state, in the country.

However the signers of this petition clearly recognized that if Mike Pence could, he would do just that. It is a new dawn in America my friends.

A dumber, religiously fundamental, scientifically illiterate, new dawn.

With Trump the knuckle draggers feel empowered. They are just bursting with the stupidity they want us all to see. Of course, they don't think it's stupidity. They think they are special. Superstitious children is what the are.

Are the petitioners using English spelling and terminology to seem educated and sophisticated? Sorry, didn't work.

I can't prove it, but I think that religion of any kind makes people dumber. And Mike Pence is probably the dumbest of the dumb.

As this petition makes clear, many fundamental religious people (that is, uneducated people) regard science as the religion of atheists. Facts, logic and critical thinking are antithetical to their faith, for these are threats to their own ignorant views of the world.

  6. There has never been nor will there ever be a shred of evidence for the existence of God. Conservatives use God for control, intimidation, and humiliation.

If Pence wants to teach all theories of creation, that could take quite a while. There are numerous theories from Native American traditions along with Buddhist, Hindu, and many others.

    1. Not only does Pence only want taught Christianity but only HIS brand. His personal beliefs. He's the kind of Christian that believes only he and his kind are going to heaven and if you don't believe exactly what he believes exactly the way he believes it, you are burning in hell.

      Not exactly the tolerant kind.

Pence would have been one of the first to volunteer for the crusades. Too bad really. Might have taken him out of the gene pool quickly.

I have a friend whose father is so frightened to die because he's a "believer" and thinks there's a chance he may go to hell (he's 90 and was an asshole so his fears may be justified). I am so relieved I'm not at the mercy of those fears. It's very liberating.

This asshole punishes himself because he thinks his religion condemns him to eternal suffering because he was an asshole (read btwn the lines-probably treated other people and animals like sh*t)?

      Ok.

      With.

      Me.

    2. Apparently didn't stop him from being an asshole. (Like the religious claim being religious does.)

Maybe he should convert to Catholicism. Then he can confess, say a few Hail Marys, be forgiven and still go to heaven. After some purgatory, of course.

God is man made. Made up by man to keep the willfully ignorant people in line and oh so scared. The so called xtians are STILL to this day using their so called god to threaten others.

My favorite: Oh,I just can't wait till god gets ya. Fucking idiots. Is there any difference in their so called god and Jim Jones or any of the other control cult mongers, Graham, Oral, Jerry, Pat, Manson, (Way too many to list.) ALL they care about is money, control, and power. And we can't forget fear. BOO! Sorry, hope I didn't cause any pussies to piss their pants.

I think your comment only seems powerful in your head. Frankly I laughed at your sputtering nonsense, thinking to myself, what a dumbass. Thanks for the laugh at your expense.

    2. Let's tell them God punished Tennessee with that fire for voting for Trump.

And he punished Kentucky by taking away the coal miner's health benefits by turning the Republicans' hearts cold. It was only the Democrats that stood up to save them. But God took away their health care for voting Republican and electing Trump.

      Use their superstition against them.

Dakota is being punished by God with oil spills.

  14. Following is a quote re John Glenn:

"He set an example of someone whose faith began before he became an astronaut, and whose faith was reinforced after traveling in space.

"To look out at this kind of creation and not believe in God is to me impossible," said Glenn, after his second and final space voyage.[80] He stated that he saw no contradiction between believing in God and the knowledge that evolution is "a fact", and that he believed evolution should be taught in schools.[81] He explained:

I don't see that I'm any less religious that I can appreciate the fact that science just records that we change with evolution and time, and that's a fact. It doesn't mean it's less wondrous and it doesn't mean that there can't be some power greater than any of us that has been behind and is behind whatever is going on.[82]"
