Did the RNC suggest that Donald Trump was the second coming of Christ? On Christmas? Maybe.

The above was Trump's season greetings to his deplorable followers.(Yes I know he has decreed that we all say "Merry Christmas," that's why I didn't!)

As you might imagine he was mocked mercilessly over that tweet, as well he should have been.
However even more disturbing was this message from the RNC:

In a holiday message sent out by the GOP, Reince Priebus, the outgoing RNC Chairman and incoming chief of staff, wished a "Merry Christmas to all!"

"Over two millennia ago, a new hope was born into the world, a Savior who would offer the promise of salvation to all mankind. Just as the three wise men did on that night, this Christmas heralds a time to celebrate the good news of a new King," the message said. "We hope Americans celebrating Christmas today will enjoy a day of festivities and a renewed closeness with family and friends."

"Just as the three wise men did on that night, this Christmas heralds a time to celebrate the good news of a new King."

 Say what?

Now I don't know about you but that seemed to say that not only does Donald Trump want to take ownership of the phrase "Merry Christmas," but that he would like to co-opt the entire season and make it all about him.

"Who needs that Jesus Christ dude now that you have a new savior in town?"

Spokesguy Sean Spicer was quick to correct the record.
Yeah, fuck us for simply using reading comprehension and NOT utilizing our Republican to English phrase book.

So according to this guy Donald Trump is NOT trying to replace Jesus in the hearts and minds of the American people.

At least no yet, but I think we all know that is on the agenda.

This may sound strange - but my initial reaction was disbelief. Then - after reflecting I realized I truly felt downhearted - because I think they meant exactly what their words said.

Okay, let's look at it this way from a Christian standpoint. The basis of Easter: Christ died and rose again, ascended into heaven, and "is" seated at the right hand of God. Meaning: alive and well. So what's with this "new" stuff? It should be taken exactly as you say, Gryph, and as dumpster's chief of staff, Preibus expected otherwise?

    1. yes, if you are christian and you believe in all the doctrine, you believe in 1 jesus, a newborn king (really born in about march because that was when the census took place), but you also believe that he died, rose and ascended bodily to heaven. so it's not tolkien - there is no return of the king (a new king from the same line). but as i say, this is if you follow all the doctrine. i'm sure priebus at least wants to give the impression he does. so what's with this new king? he may like gold decor, but a king he is not and will never be. i guess president of the US was next best...

Did Priebus leak to us that his new King Trump will be assassinated like Jesus?

Will this happen after Trump is sworn in and the Republicans will get what they want? Vice president Pence will become president?

I had a very depressing Xmas dinner, spent with a bunch of old (SS and Medicare recipient) bible thumpers, whose whole lives revolve around church. No, church wasn't the depressing part.

It seems these people view dRUMPf as the one person who can save the US. That he will speak softly and carry a big stick, ala Teddy Roosevelt (as if they really know ANYTHING about Teddy, since he isn't named in the KJ version). And since when has dRUMPf spoken softly?

These were mostly educated, and all white oldsters. Half had worked for the Fed government.

I do not and did not participate in any political discussion over dinner, so did not bring up all the SHIT they are going to endure over the next 4 years. Nearly swallowed my tongue keeping quiet, which resulted in significant indigestion.

If they voted for the orange shit-gibbon, then they deserve every last thing they are going to be dealt. WE The Rest Of The People do not deserve their fate, but will have to endure it anyway.

I had to get this out or spend the day turning the air blue in my house about how stupid supposedly educated people can be.

    Thanks for listening.

They wanted to stop him from getting a second term. Fucking lost, didn't you Republicans? Too, too bad!

With One Pen Stroke President Obama Protects Non-Believers from Religious Republicans

President Obama signed into law the Frank Wolf International Religious Freedom Act that, among many other things, “protects atheists, humanists, and other freethinkers around the world [including America] from religious persecution.” What that means for American Secular Humanists, agnostics, atheists and other nonreligious persons is that they are now explicitly named as “a class” protected by an “Act” that was quietly and unceremoniously signed into law last week. The new law was an update, and a much-needed upgrade, to the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act that states:

“The freedom of thought, conscience, and religion is understood to protect theistic and non-theistic beliefs as well as the right not to profess or practice any religion.”

Of particular note is the Act’s explicit condemnation of any group or government entity that specifically “targets non-theists, humanists, and atheists because of their beliefs” as well as attempts to forcibly legislate or compel “non-believers or non-theists to recant their beliefs or to convert.”

...If anything, the business community should have understood that Trump will swindle any and everyone he can and they were duly “conned” because they believed they were smarter than regular folk. Now that it appears the pledge to impose tariffs is a reality, the business community should be alarmed that maybe Trump’s promise to punish companies outsourcing jobs will also come to pass. He may also stop immigration that provides the business community with all that cheap, disposable labor force; another boneheaded move that will damage the economy, and businesses.

The Decline of Empathy and the Appeal of Right-Wing Politics

What child psychology can teach us about the current GOP.

...Adults, like children, try to cope with the stress of failures of recognition in the best ways they can. They certainly get anxious and depressed and may turn to drugs and alcohol to manage these painful feelings. In addition, when social trust is weakened and people are isolated, they try to find ways to belong, to be part of a community. The Tea Party is one such community. Others turn to their church communities. Their social brains seek an experience of “we” and often do so by creating a fantasy of a “them” that they can devalue and fight. Tribalism draws from our need for relatedness but, tragically, can also pervert it. Rejected by employers and government, they reject and demean others. All the while, they are trying to deal with the pain, powerlessness, and lack of empathy that they experience in their social lives.

Donald Trump clearly spoke to this pain. He empathized with the traumatic losses and helplessness of the white middle and working classes. He helped them feel part of something bigger than themselves, a “movement,” which combatted their isolation. And he helped them restore a feeling of belonging by positioning them against demeaned others, primarily immigrants and countries on the other end of “horrible trade deals.”

Trump and the GOP knowingly and deliberately used people's prejudices and ignorance, that's all, much as the 20th century fascist leaders did. No one should try to gild it over. It's despicable today as it was in the 1920's and 1930's.

  36. It's phrased poorly.

They are going to walk it back and say they are referring to Christmas Day and being free to once again celebrate Jesus' birth.

But it reads that they are heralding Trump as their new King, on par with Jesus.

Deplorables have terrible critical thinking and problem solving skills. They don't score well in reading comprehension. (Or spelling and grammar for that matter.)

But that is exactly the take the majority took. That Trump was being declared the new King and the savior of "Merry Christmas."

Reince Priebus is educated enough that he should have been able to clearly convey the message he wanted readers to understand. He didn't. Fail. Disaster. Loser.
