John McCain and other Senators issue bipartisan press release confirming that Russia hacked our election process.

Courtesy of the United States Committee on Armed Services:

U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), Senate Democratic Leader-elect, and Jack Reed (D-RI), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services released the following joint statement today in response to news reports on the CIA’s analysis of Russian interference with the 2016 election:

“For years, foreign adversaries have directed cyberattacks at America’s physical, economic, and military infrastructure, while stealing our intellectual property. Now our democratic institutions have been targeted. Recent reports of Russian interference in our election should alarm every American.

“Congress’s national security committees have worked diligently to address the complex challenge of cybersecurity, but recent events show that more must be done. While protecting classified material, we have an obligation to inform the public about recent cyberattacks that have cut to the heart of our free society. Democrats and Republicans must work together, and across the jurisdictional lines of the Congress, to examine these recent incidents thoroughly and devise comprehensive solutions to deter and defend against further cyberattacks.

“This cannot become a partisan issue. The stakes are too high for our country. We are committed to working in this bipartisan manner, and we will seek to unify our colleagues around the goal of investigating and stopping the grave threats that cyberattacks conducted by foreign governments pose to our national security.”

You know there are very few times these days that I wish I could be a bug on the wall in Sarah Palin's house.

But I would LOVE to have seen her face when she read this.

Remember these are the Senators that first received that CIA briefing way back in September. And they are very likely the ones who argued against keeping it under wraps until after the election.

Apparently even Mitch McConnell recognizes that he cannot just sit back and do nothing:

McConnell said he wanted a “bipartisan” congressional investigation into Russian interference, ruling out a special committee and instead saying the Senate Intelligence Committee could proceed with the probe.

“The Russians are not our friends,” McConnell said at a news conference, embracing a probe. “I hope those in responsibility in the new administration share my view.”

I think that this is likely only politically pandering on the part of McConnell, but if it results in some investigations that will have to be good enough.

For now.

I think McConnell (sp?) is having his "deer in the headlights" moment and realizing there is no way he can get out of this with any credibility without looking like he is totally on board with this investigation. Yes - he knew about this back in September and threatened Obama if he (Obama) exposed it McC would claim it was a partisan move. Uhhh...well here we are and now everyone knows about it.
Is there enough dirt - I mean good soil - to cover all of the crap this "not even in office yet" administration has created for all of us to deal with?

That will keep her busy, instead of wondering what Mitch is up to with his young MALE aides. Her family has high stakes in businesses which her new job will be able to expand. ANOTHER conflict of interest. Mitch and his beard had dinner with the incoming First Lady, Ivanka recently.

Then they should declassify the information and explain to the American people why they and Pres. Obama didn't do anything about it if it's true, they knew about it before the election and they didn't do anything. This is disgusting. The White House put out a statement the day after the election that it had been fair. If it wasn't, show the proof and they've got some splaining to do. Comments from "anonymous sources" doesn't cut it.

Love him, but Obama was being too diplomatic. I get why he was, but he could have come right out and done something to get this whole thing looked into right away instead of letting it bleed like this for a month. All the Dem statements hinting at what happened were too gentle. And that fucked-up "The American people have spoken" makes me sick, and I hated hearing it from Obama when half the country--more than half--was upset and knew they'd lost because of so many things having been done to make their votes not count.

      President Obama is a lawyer.

He knows he HAD to let them commit the crime (hacking the election) so we can throw the whole bunch of them in jail and have an investigation. President Obama gave them more rope to hang themselves.

If he had stopped the Russian interference before the election, no crime would have been committed by the Republicans. Trump had a 50/50 chance of winning anyways. If Hillary had won, there would be no need to do anything because the Russian hack didn't work. Now that it worked, it's time for the investigations. If Hillary lost AND President Obama tried to stop the Russian interference before the election, he would have been partly to blame for her loss. This way, it's all on the Russians and Republicans who knew about it and didn't stop it.

John McCain Says There Is No Doubt That Russia Hacked The Campaigns

During an interview on CNN, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said that there is no doubt that Russia hacked the campaigns, and suggested that the investigation will focus on whether or not Russia tried to tip the election to Trump.

McCain was all about an investigation into Russian hacking and election meddling, “Well, I think it deserves examination. I don’t think there’s any doubt that the Russians hacked into the campaigns, probably of both. Although, it’s not evident yet it was the Republicans as well. Although, I would think so. They hacked into my campaign back in 2008, but I think the key to this is to try to find out what the Russians’ intentions were. Were they intending to change the outcome of our election? If so, it’s very serious. The pillar of our democracy is free and fair elections.”

Harry Reid: The Trump Campaign ‘Was In On’ Russia’s Election Hacking

The outgoing Senate minority leader says the Electoral College has a “tremendous responsibility” on its hands.

“Someone in the Trump campaign organization was in on the deal. I have no doubt. Now, whether they told [Trump] or not, I don’t know. I assume they did. But there is no question about that,” Reid said in an interview with The Huffington Post. “So there is collusion there, clearly.”

“Don’t put blindfolds on,” he said. “Here is the deal: We have a situation where during the campaign, especially the last few months of the campaign, WikiLeaks was heavily involved in trying to hurt Hillary Clinton and it helped Trump. And you have Trump who said he likes Putin better than he likes Obama.”

    Trump battles for legitimacy

A leaked CIA report backs the president-elect into a corner as Democrats pounce.

Donald Trump thinks they’re out to get him.

The president-elect is mounting a furious public defense of his legitimacy, charging that his political adversaries are trying to undermine him before he even takes office -- and they’re using bogus intel to do it.

Pushing back on the CIA’s leaked conclusion that Russian intelligence services had meddled in the Nov. 8 election expressly to help him win, he’s still questioning whether Russia even hacked Democrats’ email accounts at all. His aides bristle when anyone points out that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by more than 2.7 million. And they dismiss the rearguard calls for recounts and Electoral College revolts as the work of sore losers who still can’t accept his upset victory.

“Imagine,” Trump asked his 16 million Twitter followers on Monday morning, “if the election results were the opposite and WE tried to play the Russia/CIA card. It would be called conspiracy theory!”

The leaks, spokesman Jason Miller told reporters on the transition team’s daily conference call, are nothing more than “an attempt to delegitimize President-elect Trump’s win.”

The president-elect’s skepticism and protestations come amid a fresh wave of concern over Russian cyberattacks targeting the American election system. The intelligence community officially blamed Russia in October for hacking attacks against prominent U.S. political institutions and individuals, an assessment Trump decried at the time as “public relations.” He has continued to express skepticism that Russian hackers were behind the attacks, despite copious documentation from independent cybersecurity analysts and the full consensus of 17 American intelligence agencies.

Concerns over Russian interference were reopened last week when the White House announced it was conducting a review of the evidence -- a surprise move that was quickly followed by a drumbeat of stories revealing the intelligence community’s fierce backstage debate over the Kremlin’s motive. In a nutshell: Was it just to create chaos, or did Russia actually hope to elect Trump?

The CIA’s view, according to a bombshell report in the Washington Post, was Russia’s aim was clearly to put Trump in the Oval Office. In its own report, the New York Times said U.S. intelligence agencies have “high confidence” in their conclusion that Russia sought specifically to boost Trump.

Oh sure, now that their VP is safely in office, they'll decide to spill the beans about Trump and the Russians. And if they both get impeached because of this, then the whackadoodle Tea Party House of Representatives gets to pick the new president.

It's a win-win situation for the Republicans.......unless the Senate Dems feel that they can suffer through four years of Trump and then use him as the poster boy of why nobody should ever EVER vote for a Republican again.

I just hope the country and the planet can survive the likes of Donald J. Trump.

But yes, that is the longest shot in the universe.

More than likely it will go to the House to choose a president. They may choose Kasich to save face and try to clean the stains off the rug.

The Senate? They have to choose a VP. Who the hell knows which way they'll go. Ted Cruz? Jeb Bush? If they really want to "heal" the nation, they'll choose Tim Kaine as a compromise.

It was that close because the Russians pissed off the Bernie supporters with the hacked DNC e-mails.

Hillary made a huge gaffe with her "Deplorables" remark. That's all on her.

They did not campaign enough in the swing rust belt states. They assumed support that wasn't there. They didn't address the issues of the people because they didn't listen.

But that only tightened the race. The tipping point was Comey and for that he should be prosecuted.

Who do we have to thank for the Russian ability to hack our election?

Why those very same rethugs who promised to block everything the O administration tried to pass. Who voted down every bill to fund the agencies and techs who could have stopped it.

The news has to come out that they are 100% responsible for the hacking.

The Trump campaign kept telling him "Don't worry,Mr Trump. The election is rigged" Donald was too stupid to figure it out and went out to his rallies and told everyone he knew the election was rigged. Now that he knows what they meant,he can't admit it.

This is what the Republican Party has come to. They chose a conspiracy artist named Donald Trump to be their presidential nominee and this man, when he wasn’t hosting a third rate reality TV show big in flyover country, was a prominent pusher of the fake “birther” conspiracy, which accused sitting President Barack Obama of being illegitimate.

The birther conspiracy contented that Obama was ineligible to be President of the United States because he was born in Kenya. The fringe people behind the birther movement were subtly and not so subtly encouraged by some elected Republicans, who expressed skepticism about the President’s citizenship.

So it’s very fitting that evidence has surfaced that Donald Trump is possibly illegitimate, courtesy of the Russians.

No way @12:57 you take and keep Sarah Palin.

The inbreds, white trash, KKK and Neo-Nazis in the lower 48 were chanting her name in 2008. No where will you will find any history of Alaskans chanting her name, crying, carry signs with her name on it and buying her red 2008 campaign monkey shoes on Ebay that Sarah or her niece hawked.

No you take her, she quit on us 1/2 way through her term as governor for reality shows. We don't like quitters up here, we like strong women, we don't like Sarah Palin.

Sarah always wanted the easy money. Sarah Palin's Alaska was easier than governing a very small populated state.

Sarah Palin is nothing more than a fucking bitch - Alaskans can have her!

Americans unsuspectingly trained terrorists on how to fly airplanes and they used that knowledge to attack us on 9/11.

Who trained the Russians and gave them the computer knowledge which eventually led them to cyber attacking America and other countries?

Did they get student Visas and were trained in our colleges?

  44. Yeah, they should release all of the documents and then try to explain to the American people why *we* weren't told about it all *before* the election.

Then they better get Trump's entire financial records and tell us who he owes money to. The American public is entitled to know exactly how much he owes to Russia, China and any other foreign governments or foreign banks. Then they can explain why we weren't told *that* before the elections.

By keeping silent and failing to disclose all of these compromises and conflicts, the American people did NOT have all of the facts they needed to make a fully informed decision.

When you add everything up, this entire election has been DISASTROUS! It is appalling the extent of corruption and incompetence that has permeated this election cycle.
