Paul Ryan claims he has no problem with Donald Trump tweeting lies and conspiracy theories so long as he fixes this country's "big problems." Boy do I have bad news for Paul Ryan.

Courtesy of HuffPo:

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has no problem with President-elect Donald Trump tweeting lies and conspiracy theories, including dangerous allegations of mass voter fraud in the recent presidential election.

In an interview that aired Sunday on CBS’ “60 Minutes,” Ryan said he could not prove Trump’s baseless claim that “millions of people voted illegally,” which the president-elect tweeted to his millions of followers last Sunday.

“I don’t know. I’m not really focused on these things,” Ryan said when anchor Scott Pelley asked him about Trump’s blatant lie.

“I have no way of backing that up. I have no knowledge of such things,” he said.

When Pelley continued to press him, Ryan said that the fact that the president-elect of the United States circulates false information on social media is not a concern to him.

“It doesn’t matter to me. He won the election,” he said. “The way I see the tweets you’re talking about, he’s basically giving voice to a lot of people who have felt that they were voiceless. He’s communicating with people in this country who’ve felt like they have not been listened to. He’s going to be an unconventional president.”

“Who cares what he tweeted, you know, on some Thursday night, if we fix this country’s big problems?” he added. “That’s just the way I look at this.”

If you ever wondered if there is an ounce of integrity remaining in the Republican party I think Paul Ryan just answered that question for you.

No.

Perhaps the most chilling part of Ryan's response is the "I have no way of backing that up" statement.

Because that signals once again that we are living in a fact free world in which Paul Ryan either does not know who to trust for accurate information or is too afraid to learn that his party's president is pulling "facts" out of his ass.

This also signals to the American people that the Republican establishment cannot be counted on to keep Trump in check, and will instead give him carte blanche to do as much damage to the country as he sees fit while they sit on their hands. Just like they did when George W. Bush was in office.

In short, we are fucked.

Ryan is every bit as horrible as is Trump! Lying is OK? Fuck him and the Republican party. They truly are the most deplorable humans we have in our country!

They feel operating w/no facts and lying is the way to handle our government? At least, they are all being up front about it!

Time to go after their crap every time they lie, cheat and steal from us on the national, state and city levels! They ALL make me sick to my stomach!

Yep. Suddenly, everything the GOP side thinks and does is okay. There is no responsibility, no right and wrong, no struggle with conscience, no belief in accountability (remember how W would always say people had "to be held to account"? no more), and so on. They just accept everything that aids their selfishness. I've been saying all year that Trump could rape a small child in front of his voters and they'd be fine with it, and I think now that Ryan and just about every Repub in Congress would be okay with it, too.

Just a month ago, it looked like the Republican established as a whole had major issues with Trump. Ryan was among the most critical.

I actually had hope that Ryan might stand up for what he believed in. Even though I've never agreed with Ryan, I thought he at least had an ounce of integrity. So WTF happened? Why's Ryan now doing this?

I think the Republicans have struck some sort of a deal with Trump since the election. Trump gets tweet his BS and pretend to lead. The GOP will play along, as long as Trump keeps the corporate welfare coming.

I never thought the GOP would manage to become even more soulless. As usual, Trump helps set the bar a little lower.

These republicans all belong in the loony bin, just as long as they win, anyone can say or do as they please.

Normally I don’t believe in stooping to their level, however being Mr. Nice Guy doesn’t work with these thugs, I think it is time some conspiracy theories are begun about them.

Ryan should be kicked out of Congress for saying it is OK for the president to lie to the American public.

Also the Democrats had better grow a spine and block everything. It may not stop them completely but at least they go on the record as opposing the madness.

Every day I am thrown sideways when I hear how many white educated men and women voted for this clown. Educated? Where? How? They all profess that Drumpf is a billionaire. He is not! If he were wouldn't he pay the German, Russian and Chinese banks what he owes them? How is he managing to carry that much debt? No look into his tax returns because it would make us throw up.

We must fight every step of the way to make certain no US banks give him a loan of any kind.

Don't you have to wonder how many times those voters have been bilked out of their own finances or other deals? If they were stupid enough to vote for Drumpf that may well explain why they have no job or whatever it is they are searching for.

Lol. You need to learn you some math.

About 64.7 million people voted for Hillary, out of approximately 325 million people, around 19.9% of the US. Trump voters comprised about 19.2% of the US population.

Alas the electoral college is all that matters in the end, as I'm sure you are aware.

      Delete
    3. No, it's not.

First, half the country didn't even vote.

Of those that voted, 46.2% voted for Trump and 48.2% voted for Clinton. The rest either voted for one of the many third party candidates or left president blank.

All you can say is that the majority of those that voted did NOT vote for Trump. Trump has the support of barely 19% of the country and I suspect that is dropping daily as they regret their choice for various reasons including that he isn't going to build the wall or lock her up.

Trump will enter office with one of the lowest approval ratings and it will stay there until he leaves or is impeached. No matter what Kellyanne says.

    1. I've been in favor of this for months.

I thought Obama should give Congress, Mitch McConnell and the Republicans one last finger and just appoint Garland. Then let them embarrass themselves "taking it back" when they convene after the inauguration.

But I like the idea of having Biden do it IF he can get the votes. Biden is a nice guy but he is much more likely to embrace the idea of sticking it to the Republicans. After all, he's had to deal with the obstruction for 8 years.

"On January 3, 2017, Democrats will hold the majority in the Senate for a few minutes, until the newly-elected Senators are sworn in. Biden could convene the Senate in those few minutes and call for a vote. The majority could then suspend the rules and vote in Merrick Garland."

"The key here is that VP Biden would have to be willing to convene the Senate and recognize Senator Dick Durbin instead of Mitch McConnell. Durbin moves to re-nominate Garland, and Senate Democrats then vote to confirm him. They will have a quorum for those few minutes."

"It’s bold. Garland would be confirmed by 34 Democrats and no Republicans. It will certainly enrage Republicans, but they’re already enraged and full of hubris about how they’re going to screw Democrats anyway, so what do they really have to lose?"

Yeah, that would be a nice "Fuck You" parting gift for 8 years of obstruction.

But no, I doubt the Democrats have the balls to do it. They're already planning on rolling over, playing dead and collecting their tax payer funded paychecks.

It’s Pay Back Time: Senate Democrats Will Delay And Obstruct Trump Nominees

............. There are legitimate questions that Trump’s controversial and unqualified nominees should have to answer, and those Republicans who are ready to rubber stamp questionable nominations should be held accountable. Because only 51 votes are required to confirm the nominees, Senate Democrats can’t completely obstruct Trump’s cabinet, but they can make life miserable for those who spent the last eight years obstructing President Obama.

The shoe is now firmly on the other foot, as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is about to get a taste of the consequences for his treatment of Obama. Democrats haven’t forgotten, and many of them are out to make the Republicans pay for their refusal to govern.

Trump’s first hundred days may go up in smoke as Senate Democrats are going to do their best to make Trump a one-term president.

Pence to keynote Heritage Foundation event at Trump’s D.C. hotel

The Heritage Foundation has reserved the “presidential ballroom” at President-elect Donald Trump’s Washington D.C. hotel on Tuesday for an event to honor some of the group’s top donors — those who give at least $1,000 annually.

And who keynoting the evening event at Trump’s hotel? None other than Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

Trump’s hotel, in the renovated Old Post Office Building only blocks from the White House, has become a symbol of the potential financial conflicts for the incoming president, as two foreign nations have already scheduled events there.

The Azerbaijani embassy will be co-hosting a Hanukkah party there this month. And the day after the Heritage event, Bahrain has booked the hotel for a “national day reception,” according to an invitation.

The Heritage Foundation and Trump’s transition team did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Trump initially said he will deal with conflicts by creating a “blind trust” and having his children running his multinational, multi-billion dollar empire. Financial and ethics experts say that arrangement would not amount to a blind trust, nor assuage concerns.

On Nov. 30, Trump tweeted he would be leaving his business “in total” but he has not elaborated, saying he will discuss more at a Dec. 15 news conference, which would be his first since the election.

Well, as Paul Ryan sees things, the "big problems" facing this country is that anybody has health insurances, that retired Americans and those with disabilities receive help from the federal government in the form of Social Security and Medicare, and that a lot of poor people receive healthcare through Medicaid. He also doesn't approve of most of the Constitution, except for the Second Amendment, and he doesn't want any millionaires to have to pay taxes. There are other things that Ryan thinks need to be fixed in this country, like ending public education and closing all state institutions of higher learning, but those listed above are certainly the biggest obstacles he sees to a sunny future for himself and the rest of the GOP. He and Donald Trump don't disagree on much.
