Rep. John Lewis, the Georgia Democrat and civil rights icon, says he does not see Donald Trump as a legitimate president.
“I believe in forgiveness. I believe in trying to work with people,” Lewis told NBC’s Chuck Todd in a segment set to air Sunday on “Meet the Press.” “It’s going to be hard. It's going to be very difficult. I don't see this president-elect as a legitimate president.”
Lewis argued that the suspected efforts of Russian hackers to tilt the election in Trump’s favor are evidence of “a conspiracy on the part of the Russians and others to help him get elected.”
“I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected,” Lewis said when asked why he does not believe Trump to be legitimate. “And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.”
Of course this angered Cheeto Hitler, who took to Twitter this morning in response:
Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to......— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 14, 2017
Damn do I love John Lewis!mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk - no action or results. Sad!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 14, 2017
Here is a man unafraid to speak truth to illegitimate power. And we all need to follow his lead and do the same.
This man will never, and I mean NEVER be my president.
Add to this Russian interference, the letter by James Comey, and you have everything you need to recognize that Donald Trump has not earned the right to plant his giant orange ass in the Oval Office.
Just like you would never give the title to the boxer who put the horseshoe in his glove, or the trophy to the runner to tied his opponents shoelaces together, you simply cannot reward those who cheat to attain victory in politics.
This election was supposed to be about letting the people decide who they wanted to lead this nation.
But the Russians and James Comey, manipulated their opinions and frightened them with lies about Hillary Clinton, to the point where they were casting their vote under a fog of confusion.
This goes far beyond campaign dirty tricks, or opposition research, this is about having a hostile nation, and an apparently hostile FBI Director, forcefully move the needle in ways that we have never seen before.
And in ways we must never see again.
I agree about Russia and Comey, but three people have got off scot-free in the blame game: Bernie Sanders, Jill Stein, and Gary Johnson.
ReplyDeleteThey were allowed to run as anyone else would be, like them or not.
Deletethe BERN was NOT and never will be a DEMocrat. I hold him PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FROM DAY 1.
DeleteSanders should have run as an Independent. He used the DNC for its resources and then cried like a common Trump when things didn't go his way.
DeleteThank you for correcting me on Sanders!
DeleteYou are all correct. I am just so mortified!
That perfectly describes the big liberal cry me a river bowel movement, "the blame game", cause that is all you have left after Hillary failed miserably is the blame game.
DeleteHillary did not fail. She was sabotaged by Putin and Comey. tRump must owe a HELL of a lot of $$$$ to Russia, for them to place the "useful moron" in our WH. He is a disgrace to civilized people worldwide. Perverted, low intelligence, self aggrandizing son of a bitch. His wife is a nude porn actress, with a questionable escort past. GREAT family values, those tRumps.
DeleteI also blame the DNC, if they would have thoroughly investigated Bernie's people when they hacked Hillary's DNC account the forensic investigation into the hacking may have exposed the Russian hacking at that time. But Bernie's staff members got off with no investigation being done.
DeleteThe politically un-savvy voted for Bernie, Jill, and Gary. I suspect most of them are young and idealistic and just don't understand how the real political world works. Now they have Trump like the rest of us. Now if they think Trump is a better choice than Hillary, they were born stupid and will die that way.
DeleteIn what way are any of them responsible for any of this? Because they exercised their Constitutional rights to run? They dared to challenge the chosen one?
DeleteIf you're going to spread the blame, blame the Democratic leadership for running a lousy campaign and ignoring the very people who voted for Trump.
They concentrated on the big cities and they won them. Unfortunately that just meant those 2.8 million votes but NOT the electoral college. They took votes for granted, assuming that just because people voted for Obama they would vote for Hillary. They were blind to the fact that being qualified an experienced was NOT enough. Hillary had a lot of baggage that is still not being acknowledged. It wasn't "her turn" and she didn't deserve the nomination just because she put her time in. It was a poor choice crammed down the throats of the party. Don't tell me potential candidates weren't warned to stay out of the race, that they'd get their turn next.
Bad decisions. Bad execution.
None of that are on Sanders, Stein or Johnson. The Green Party are responsible for choosing Stein and the Libertarians are responsible for choosing Johnson.
The Democrats are responsible for allowing Sanders to run on the Democratic ticket for the primaries. Probably assuming that he'd do poorly but Hillary needed someone to run against. Can't let it look like a sure thing, now, can we?
From what I read, the FBI knew the russians were hacking the DNC and didn't inform them for months.
DeleteBahahahaa. Hillary lovers still finding blame everywhere you look.
DeleteThe hubris. The hubris.
Hillary couldn't win against Obama, then she couldn't win against Trump. She was a terrible candidate that couldn't seal the deal against one of the most highly unfavorable opposing candidates ever!
She was old school establishment establishment establishment, that so much of America is sick of. And you are all just so surprised, because you, and her, and the DNC just felt she was entitled to the crown, and that she would have it. And you were all dumb enough to think that everyone thinks like you do. They don't.
Lazy entitled hubris. President Trump.
Trump's comments proved Lewis's point.
ReplyDeletePat Padrnos

9"09 Join the club! tRump seems to think he was elected KING, and his handlers are backing him up for now. Surely they can see what a lunatic he is? How could anyone respect him. Whatever is in that Comey report has to be HUUUGGE. It should be made public, we need to know just what kind of pervert is going to defile our White House. They went after Hilary like rabid dogs, for pretty much nothing, yet here is tRump, making himself vulnerable to blackmail by Russia, and they keep it under wraps.
DeleteI gave up on Joe and Mika long ago. Todd just infuriates me - he is so transparent. Like you I am worried. One of my main concerns is people "normalizing" the insanity of Trump. His transgressions are already piling up. Quite frankly - when does too much become too much?

ReplyDeleteExclusive: Steele was so concerned by revelations he worked without payment after Trump's election victory in November
However, say security sources, Mr Steele became increasingly frustrated that the FBI was failing to take action on the intelligence from others as well as him. He came to believe there was a cover-up, that a cabal within the Bureau blocked a thorough inquiry into Mr Trump, focusing instead on the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

ReplyDelete--------------------
Fucking racist moron doesn't know a damn thing about Lewis's district (let alone Lewis):
The Fifth Congressional District includes downtown Atlanta and much of central Fulton and DeKalb counties.
• The median household income is about $48,000. About 1 in 6 families in the district lived in poverty in the previous year.
• Nearly nine out of 10 residents of the district were high school graduates or had education beyond high school, and about four out of 10 residents had at least a bachelor's degree, according to Census estimates.
• The largest single chunk of employed residents in Lewis' district, about half of the civilian work force, worked in a field grouped "management, business, science, and arts occupations."
Lewis and his constituents are black, so his district must be a falling apart cesspool of crime and despair.
Fucking racist ignorant bigot.
Who knows what these people do, likely hiring women to pee in hotel room beds. SNARK. If any place is crime infested it is tRump Tower, where Russians, and Mafia rent rooms for gambling. I'm very liberal and haven't ever agreed with Lewis's very conservative and often times judgmental religious stance, nor his adherence to the "war on drugs" and while I have nothing in common with this man I DO understand where he's coming from and how he ended up being the man he is, and much of that is because he came from a world, and a time, that I could never hope to understand.
DeleteHe fights the good fight on a lot of fronts and I'm happy that he is on our side, however in some aspects he's more conservative than a lot of republicans.

Funny, nobody disputed the fact that he does nothing and has a low IQ.
DeleteJohn Lewis took beatings without retaliating or verbally responding so that the USA would end segregation, separate but (un)equal housing, education, employment, state-sponsored discrimination. As a college student, he was a national leader and successfully desegregated the lunch counters of Nashville, TN (Just think about that for a minute). As a young adult, he was one of the Big Six who organized and spoke at the 1963 March on Washington. He confronted Bull Connor and didn't back down. He was beaten so viciously that his skull was split! He almost died for freedom, justice, equality, American ideals. On the other hand, Donald Trump claimed bone spurs were disqualifying and he received several deferments, thereby avoiding serving his country and fighting in Vietnam. He said he fought not to get syphylis during that time. Donald trump is not worthy to even shine John Lewis's shoes. I live in Georgia, and I know personally of which I speak.

ReplyDeleteA Hacker Just Proved That Apple May Have Been Right About the F.B.I.
ReplyDeleteA major security breach reveals that phone-hacking company Cellebrite’s clientele ranges from the F.B.I. to the Kremlin—and that Tim Cook was right to worry about creating a backdoor to the iPhone.
Last year, when the F.B.I procured a court order forcing Apple to unlock an iPhone belonging to one of the San Bernardino shooters, C.E.O. Tim Cook refused, sparking a months-long battle between the tech behemoth and the federal government. Building a back-door would set a “dangerous precedent” and compromise the security of the iPhone, Cook argued in a public letter. After a tense showdown, the F.B.I. withdrew its case when it reportedly found another way to break into the iPhone: a private Israeli security firm called Cellebrite, which specializes in data extraction and had teamed up with the F.B.I. before. Cellebrite has received more than $2 million in purchase orders from the F.B.I. over the past four years.
Now, it appears Cook may have been right to worry about the iPhone’s security. A new report from Motherboard says Cellebrite has been hacked, and its data—including highly confidential customer information, databases, and technical details about Cellebrite’s products—has been stolen. The same technology built by Cellebrite to allow the F.B.I. to unlock iPhones could now be sold to the highest bidder.

DeleteHhhmmm. Didn't the republican party and the Democratic party Switch their philosophies a couple of times over the 200+ years we've been around?
DeleteHistory is what it is and cannot be denied. Contrary to your false belief, MOST African Americans know Democrats were ORIGINALLY the party of the kkk. During Reconstruction, freedmen ran and were elected as Republicans. Most Blacks aligned with the GOP until John Kennedy came along, then when LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, African Americans switched to the Democratic party. The Dixiecrats had begun their party realignment back in 1948 when Democratic president Harry S. Truman integrated the US military. Most white Demicrats started switching to GOP in 1968 with Nixon, and that became a deluge once Ronald Reagan announced his presidential candidacy at Philadelphia, Mississippi, site of the murder of three civil rights organizers/workers. Oh yes, history definitely tells a story, most likely though, not the one you think!

The shadow of illegitimacy stalks President-elect Donald Trump. Those are not words to be written lightly. But they are becoming harder to avoid as Trump’s presidency-in-waiting becomes increasingly mired in scandal before it’s even begun.
ReplyDeleteCivil rights hero John Lewis shocked the world on Friday by saying bluntly that Trump is not a legitimate president (Trump responded in a Tweet on Saturday, hitting Lewis for the state of his Georgia congressional district). Lewis put his considerable moral authority on the line to make such a bold statement – though anyone who knows his history knows that he’s always been bold. But he is hardly the first person to think it: that this president increasingly lacks the core element required for a broad sense of legitimacy: strong public confidence that he was honestly and fairly elected, and will act in the national interest, and not some other interest – financial or worse – as president.
It’s not that Americans, including Lewis, are refusing to accept that Donald Trump will be the president once he’s sworn in, the way birthers, including Donald Trump, did to Barack Obama. But birthers were a tiny fraction of the public, and their insane theory of Obama’s secret Kenyan birth remained confined inside the Republican Party base. Obama entered office with approval ratings approaching 70 percent, and with even some Republican voters basking in the glow of his election as the nation’s first black president.
Trump, on the other hand, is now officially the most unpopular President-elect in modern American history.

Donald Trump, you need a history lesson. John Lewis almost died taking action with regards to civil rights in America. He has done more for this nation than you could ever dream of doing. If you want your approval ratings to go even lower, keep going. Rep. Lewis is not afraid of the likes of you. ReplyDeleteFor the first time, we have a woman of color featured on coins here. She portrays Lady Liberty on a $100 225th Anniversary Gold Coin, which commemorates the founding of the U.S. Mint. It’s a reflection of the “cultural and ethnic diversity of the United States,” and honestly, it’s about damn time. She is absolutely gorgeous on the new coin:

Even White Nationalists Are Turning On Trump
ReplyDelete...So odd that a businessman who brags about his international business ventures would hire globalists. Who could have seen that coming? Anyone who paid attention, that’s who, but cheer up our neo-nazi brethren, there’s hope for you still (just not for the rest of us). Trump still has his (bad pun ahead) Trump card: Jeff Sessions, who’s been tapped for Attorney General. They also like Rex Tillerson, Trump’s pick for Secretary of State.

Another day, another assault on the First Amendment from the “freedom-loving” Republican Party.
ReplyDeleteIn Arizona, a state facing an unprecedented teacher shortage, the Republican-led State House has introduced a bill to ban social justice courses, lectures and events from public schools, including state universities.

A member of the Idaho House of Representatives has been punished for making absolutely offensive accusations against every female lawmaker.
ReplyDeleteAfter Rep. Judy Boyle was named the chair of the House Agriculture Committee, Rep. Heather Scott remarked that Boyle got the position because female lawmakers “spread their legs” to rise in rank, suggesting that women perform sexual favors to get leadership positions.
The incident occurred on December 1st in the House lounge and the remark was said loudly enough that several witnesses heard it.
Scott then repeated the remark in the House chamber, not only upsetting female lawmakers, but male lawmakers as well.

Every decent Republican should come forward today this minute in defense of Senator Lewis. It is beyond shameful that THE REPUBLICAN party have allowed this man to insult and harm the America People. And sit silent. Disgraceful and Evil

Trump slammed for attacking civil rights icon Rep. John LewisDonovan Slack | USA TODAY
ReplyDeleteUpdated 3 hours ago
It’s almost as if they were surprised...
Rep. Kevin Yoder, R-Kan., said he disagrees with Lewis’s questioning of the presidential election, but said he is a “hero & icon.”
“He deserves all of our respect,” Yoder tweeted. “He's earned it.”
NAACP President Cornell Brooks demanded that Trump apologize and said that by disrespecting Lewis, Trump had "dishonored Lewis' sacrifice & demeaned the Americans & rights, he nearly died 4."
Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele had some concise advice for Trump.
“Number one, don’t tweet that. Number two, don’t go there,” he said on MSNBC, adding that the attacks were “unnecessary” and “unfortunate.”...

Trump will be going to the National Museum of African American History and Culture on Martin Luther King Day. Don't know if he'll dare show his face at the ceremony.
ReplyDeleteOur great current president suggested that he go to the museum. BO suggested it back in September when Trump said that now is the worst time ever ever ever to be black in America. BO said that even an eight-year-old would know this is not true.
Well, Trump will see pictures of John Lewis in the museum. Wonder if that will change his mind on anything.
Let's time how long he stays in the museum.
Good shortish article with its comment on Trump not understanding at all what MLK was about.

What many people fail to remember or know is that the simple acts taken for granted by most Americans were a never ending source of humiliation, belittlement, and harassment. Yes, today it may be easy to eat at a restaurant and to be treated in a decent, respectful manner. But 50 years ago, African Americans would have to go to a separate window or the back door. It's easy today to shop at Target or Walmart or JC Penney but 50 years ago in the stores that deigned to serve them, African Americans had to be waited on last. Who was instrumental in compelling these dramatic changes? Among others, namely, JOHN LEWIS.
