I cannot think of a better way to end our day than with Michelle Obama's final speech as First Lady.

Courtesy of Politico:

“As I end my time in the White House, I can think of no better message to send to our young people in my last official remarks as first lady,” Obama said. “For all the young people in this room and those who are watching, know that this country belongs to you, to all of you, from every background and walk of life.”

“Our glorious diversity, our diversity as the faiths and colors and creeds, that is not a threat to who we are — it makes us who we are,” she said, after citing immigration and religious diversity as proud American traditions. “To the young people here, and the young people out there, do not ever let anyone make you feel like you don't matter, or like you don't have a place in our American story, because you do, and you have a right to be exactly who you are.”

“But I also want to be very clear,” she continued. “This right isn’t just handed to you. No, this right has to be earned every single day. You cannot take your freedoms for granted. Just like generations who have come before you, you have to do your part to preserve and protect those freedoms, and that starts right now, when you're young. Right now, you need to be preparing yourself to add your voice to our national conversation.”

Listen to that voice.

So filled with class, and hope, and inspiration.

The President, and essentially everybody who knows Mrs. Obama, says that there is no way that she will ever run for political office. And if that is not in her heart then of course she should not.

But when I hear her speak like this, I cannot help but think that her decision not to run is this country's loss.

She is amazing.

And they are both, she and her husband, perhaps better than we ever deserved.

She's going to be a very hard act to follow. It's no wonder that my President married her. I will miss this First Family.

    1. Presidents Obama and Bill Clinton both proudly acknowledge that they married up. It's a crying shame that Michelle won't run for office, and Hillary will not be President, but they'll continue to be heroes and forces for change.

I love listening to MO and BO. I love listening to people who think as they're finding the words (I love watching their faces as their minds are at work--the silences are anything but dead air time), and they have the capability to find the right words. Or should I say the best words. Trump, and whenever we hear from Melania, is going to be so many steps down that I don't even know where that flight of stairs ends. We will hear from the Obamas, and when we do it will make the Trumps and that presidency look so pathetic.

That 'flight of stairs" ends in Hell. Trump is Satan. Melania is not worthy to shine Michelle's shoes.

My very thoughts. She is truly the First Lady. What a great example of leadership and grace.

Quite a contrast, following a Palin post with this one.
    Total ass, meet pure class.

I have no doubt that the President and First Lady will continue to do great things for our country for many years to come.

Once out of the White House, they will have much greater freedom to do what they want, how they want, without obstruction from Congress.

And I think many former critics will begin to have a new appreciation for the Obama family over the next four years. I haven't watched "It's a Wonderful Life" for quite a few years, but I seem to remember a big contrast between Bedford Falls and Pottersville that I think we're about to witness in the White House.

  5. Ryan has said defunding of Planned Parenthood (40% of their budget) will be attached to the bill to repeal Obamacare.

I don't think this is going to gain them any votes. In fact af few more Republicans might cross the aisle and vote with the Democrats.

In other news, audio has surfaced of Trump saying his then mistress should have an abortion. Marla Maples chose instead to have Tiffany.

I wonder how Tiffany feels about a father who wishes she had never been born. Of course she is treated like she doesn't exist. I think Marla was smart to keep the two of them as far away from the family as possible.

Do you have a link for the Trump abortion audiotape? I feel very sorry for Tiffany. She is treated as though she's nonexistent and unimportant. I suspect she is the only decent human being in the family. I watched her speech at the Rep convention. She didn't have much material to talk about her dad but she was very poised and seemed very sweet. Plus, her boyfriend is a liberal Democrat so good for her.

I read that about the abortion last week but can't recall where.

People are bitching and miabing because the President attended a wedding this weekend in Florida. They are outraged that the taxpayers arevcovering the cist but seem to gave forgotten that we pay a million bucks a day for Melania and Barron the fuckup to stay in Drumpf Tower.

And people ought to keep in mind that the Obamas (and Clintons and others) have long donated money to charities nad many causes. They give back. Trump is a billionaire who has given peanuts, and he never loses money--he finds a way to make it back. He takes and takes. He'll never make up for all the millions he's costing NYC. He's arrogant and would have thought nothing of the taxpayers paying for his family to stay in Tweet Tower, but I think he's really loving what he's doing because they didn't vote for him and he's saying an f-you.

Since we have seen the current and past Presidents tax returns EVERY spring, I look forward to seeing TRump's this year, don't you? Or is that on the list of next week's congressional horrors-pass a bill that directs the IRS to NEVER release any returns related to a GOP President, er, emperor.
I have RW relatives, and I was commenting to one about the coronation of Tump. She went on about "now, you know they only have kings in England." Yeah, so why is Congress suddenly passing bill after bill to make him more powerful than any President ever?
We have exchanged CLASS for CRASS. Reasonable and Honest for Greedy and No Integrity. Way to go, Fox Noise watchers. If Fox ever crosses the new king, I will find it hard to feel sorry for their outrage at being shut down by the Whiner in Chief.

Every time I think MO can't look any more together, she looks even more together. I mean, that hair--sleek and shiny and swinging and sassy and classy--and the cut and deep color of that red outfit she had on. She was a dream yesterday. So cool. So gorgeous. The Obamas excel at bringing classy and hip together.

      Fabulous is it.

Her voice breaking and her tearing up. It's happened before, but there was so much in that yesterday. I cried too. And cried earlier in the week when our president was at the farewell ceremony with the military.

She doesn't need to run for office. I wish that people would let that go. She exemplified what it is to be a First Lady with such grace and class, stood beside her husband through all the crap they took for eight years, no scandals, and no doubt more in love than ever because they DID it as one.

Of course she isn't going to run for anything, she is a dumb POS that knows literally nothing.

"A Texas city violated the Voting Rights Act and the 14th Amendment by purposefully trying to dilute Latino votes, a U.S. district judge ruled Friday.

Pasadena, Texas, will become the first jurisdiction to have to clear changes to its election laws with the Department of Justice since the Supreme Court’s 2013 Shelby County v. Holder ruling, according to the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, which brought the Texas lawsuit.

The 2013 Supreme Court ruling freed states with a history of voter discrimination from having to get DOJ approval to change election laws. Following the decision, scores of states and localities rushed to pass voter ID and other measures that voting rights advocates say disenfranchise minorities.

The Texas lawsuit, filed on behalf of Latino voters in Pasadena, accused Mayor Johnny Isbell and members of the City Council of manipulating the districting system in order to keep Latinos from gaining seats on the City Council."

"In addition to requiring DOJ clearance, Friday’s ruling forces Pasadena to abandon the redistricting plan and go back to its previous system — a map used in the 2013 election made up of eight single-member districts."

"“Any new City Council voting map, plan, or procedure may be enforced before court review only if it has first been submitted to the United States Attorney General and the Attorney General has not interposed an objection within 60 days after submission,” Rosenthal ordered.

U.S. Attorney General. Hmm. Now who has Doofus Drumpf nominated for Attorney General? Could that be...Jefferson Beauregard Sessions?

Anyone think Jeff Sessions is going to fight for the rights of those brown people to vote?

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/jeff-sessions-confirmation-rigged-civil-174819039.html

"The confirmation process for Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is “rigged” and should be delayed in order to thoroughly vet Donald Trump’s attorney general nominee, a group of civil rights leaders said in a conference call with reporters Friday."

"The civil rights leaders also accused Sessions of hypocrisy for failing to disclose records covering many years. In 2010, he said one of President Barack Obama’s judicial nominees could be charged with a felony for doing the same thing."

Not vetted thoroughly? Failure to disclose?

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/apnewsbreak-several-trump-picks-ethics-reviews-incomplete-160244073--election.html

"Several of President-elect Donald Trump's Cabinet choices have not completed a full review to avoid conflicts of interest, the government's ethics office says, even as Republican senators move quickly to hold at least nine confirmation hearings next week.

In a letter to Senate leaders, the director of the Office of Government Ethics described the current status of several nominees, some of whom are billionaires and millionaires, in the ethics process and expressed concern about the lack of ethics reviews just days from committee hearings."

What a strange statement, why shouldn’t we deserve a president and first lady that are intelligent and gracious?
