President of Mexico tells Donald Trump to build his own damn wall. Trumpo responds like the child that he is.

Courtesy of CNN:

"Mexico does not believe in walls. I've said time again; Mexico will not pay for any wall," he said in a video statement posted to Twitter and translated by CNN from Spanish.

Trump's response was of course all too predictable.

Holy shitballs!

So Donald Trump's vaunted negotiating technique boils down to "You do what I want or I will not invite you to my birthday party?"

President Nieto did in fact cancel his upcoming meeting with Trump, however earlier today Trump tried to spin it that the cancellation was mutually decided.

Anybody buy that?

I think our new question about Trump is to ask if there is any test of leadership that he WON'T fail?

Go. I live in New York City and see hundreds of Muslims every day, either tourists or residents, and they don't look particularly anxious here.

The people of Mexico who rely on tourist dollars could care less about any saber-rattling by their president--particularly one who was considered a wimp and had an approval rating of 12%. Should it come as a shock he is now acting like a tough guy.
He's just trying to get his numbers up. Pena Nieto knows that having America as a trade partner is indispensable to Mexico's economic security. Put another way, He needs us far more than the U.S. needs Mexico.

It turns out Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner is also registered to vote in two states

Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law and one of his closest White House advisers, is registered to vote in both New Jersey and New York, according to elections officials and voting registration records, another high-profile example of how common it is for voters to hold dual registrations.

With Kushner, The Washington Post has now identified four Trump family members or top administration appointees who were registered in two states during the fall election. The others are chief White House strategist Stephen K. Bannon; Tiffany Trump, the president's youngest daughter; and Treasury Secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin, as first reported by CNN...

After just five days on job, Donald Trump is already plotting a vacation for next week

“Mr. Trump is in the meantime pondering his first break away from the White House, a potential trip to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, Fla., possibly the weekend of Feb. 3.”

That’s right, Donald Trump has been on the job for all of five days, and he’s already announced that he’ll be taking a Florida vacation next week.

Carl Bernstein: Republican leaders privately questioning Donald Trump’s mental state

Over the past few days since Donald Trump took the oath of office, his behavior has gone from his usual erraticism to something more objectively disturbing. He now appears to be basing White House policy entirely around his own inability to accept that he had a small inauguration crowd and that he lost the popular vote. Quite a large number of Americans have been questioning Trump’s mental state on social media. And now it turns out some Republican leaders are privately doing the same.

The bombshell came from legendary Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein, who made an on-air appearance on CNN on Wednesday evening. He revealed that even as Republican leaders gather in Philadelphia for their retreat, they’re privately discussing Donald Trump’s mental state. According to Bernstein, one of the Republican leaders described Trump as “delusional.” This means the GOP Congress has a real problem, because although anyone with clear eyes could see during the campaign that Trump had psychological issues, the Republicans had been hoping to use his presidency to ram through as much of their legislation as possible. But now it may be a different matter.

With Trump’s approval rating having already plummeted into the high thirties before taking office, historically low for a new president, and his public behavior growing more unnerving, he could end up being an albatross around the GOP’s neck. Carl Bernstein’s on-air revelation on CNN that Republican leaders think he’s “delusional” hasn’t yet been posted online, but it caused enough of a shock wave that it’s already being discussed on Twitter. If even the Republicans in Congress fear their own president’s mental state, what will they do about it?

It may be a honeymoon period, Jessie, but despite the million-woman march and protests from all different directions, The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 59% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Forty-one percent (41%) disapprove.

Maybe the sampling is biased but, comparatively, President Obamas approval rating was at 66% for the same time period in 2009.

Now, I know, depending on one's perspective, the glass is either half empty of half full. Pundits like those at Five Thirty Eight are more interested in his unfavorable rating, which is somewhat confusing, because elections swing on who registered the most "thumbs up" votes at the polls, not those who voted "Nay!"

Surprisingly, also, Five Thirty Eight relies on a poll of ALL Americans ( rather than "likely voters") and that in itself should be a red flag. It's the likely voters that go to the polls and in 2016 only 55% of voting-age Americans did.

Is it a coincidence that his disapproval rating of 45% is precisely that of the the per cent of Americans who chose not to vote? I don't think so. People stayed home because they either usually do or were not motivated enough by either candidate to get out to vote.

It could also mean that those on the left thought Hillary had the election in the bag and decided they needn't vote because others would seal the deal (diffusion of responsibility), and those on the right thought Trump had no shot so stayed home.

Either way, an approval rating of 59% in light of the protests is surprising and I doubt any truculence from the Mexican president will impact that rating.

      http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2017/01/americans-think-trump-will-be-worst-president-since-nixon.html

It showed 44% approval, 44% disapproval.

The parts of this poll that asked people what they believe about facts (like the crowd size at the inauguration and the women's march) are very interesting. There appears to still be a sizeable portion of the Trump voters who believe the "alternative facts" provided to them.

Democratic countries do not build walls. We take them down. Only totalitarian states, which are most afraid of their citizens learning how other people live, build walls. The Russians did it and the Nazis armed their borders so completely that they were tantamount to walls.

Everyone in the United States should be opposed to building a wall between this country and Mexico. How un-American of Donald Trump. We have always welcomed people from other places, understanding that generations ago or just decades ago, members of our own families sought opportunity and freedom here.

It makes me sick how Trump is talking about using tax/fee threats left and right. Mr. anti-taxes is using these as punishments. He's been talking about taxing remittances to pay for his f'ing wall. The person earning money here and who sends money to family is already pays taxes. Why should people sending their already-taxed money be penalized? And just to certain countries, or is Trump going to tax money going to Europe and all over? He's also now talking about a 20% import tax. He is really trying to squeeze and humiliate Mexico. He's inhumane.

Of course, his family can just do whatever the hell they want to and keep raking in the dough, and even though Trump said they'd not take advantage of being in the WH--but they are, like with that doubling of Mar a Lago's annual fees from 100,000 to 200,00 a year. And of course the DC hotel is booked because of people trying to curry favor. And so on. Yesterday, too, there was a story in the news about how Trump is going to crank out hotels here in the US. It's all about taking advantage of his new position.

God, I just want this POS to die.

Petition Demanding Donald Trump Release His Tax Returns Breaks White House Record

A petition on the White House website asking President Donald Trump to release information about his tax returns has now received more signatures than any other petition in the system’s five-year history.

The petition demands that the federal government explain what it is doing to “immediately release Donald Trump’s full tax returns, with all information needed to verify emoluments clause compliance.” It garnered over 100,000 signatures within 24 hours of the president’s inauguration and has become the subject of a New York Times editorial.

“The unprecedented economic conflicts of this administration need to be visible to the American people, including any pertinent documentation which can reveal the foreign influences and financial interests which may put Donald Trump in conflict with the emoluments clause of the Constitution,” states a brief description of the petition.

As of Thursday afternoon, the petition had over 368,000 signatures, surpassing the previous record of 367,180.

I don't see how adding a 20% import tax can be seen as making Mexico pay for the wall. First, it will cut down demand for Mexican goods, which will reduce Mexico's ability to pay. Second, the 20% added costs will be paid by the purchasers of the goods. Mexico will suffer due to decreased demand for its products, but any taxes added to the cost of the remaining sales will be paid by Americans, not Mexicans.

We get very few cars from Mexico, most of the autos produced in there are for overseas.

      i agree on the food.

WE'LL be paying that extra 20%, not Mexico. The costs will be passed on.

No wonder he's had so many bankruptcies. He doesn't understand economics. I'm not sure he knows how money works.

We will pay 20% more for food and many mfg goods.Mexico will also seek to find other trade partners, like China. That will reduce the amount of food and other goods sold to the US,and create supply and demand price increases as well. Just wait.

The bigger picture is he has put Mexico on notice. The US holds all the cards and they know it and Trump knows it. Liberals are the only ones that don't seem to understand America first.

69% of the fresh vegetables and 37% of the fresh fruits we consume in America come from Mexico, that is NOT counting the frozen vegetables and fruits, canned ones, seafood, and other food commodities we in the USA consume. Probably the wrong country to pick a fight with. Not only will food costs go through the roof, there will be shortages if Mexico really says fuck you.

Trade wars are a two way street and Trump has his sights on Mexico, China and likely Canada. He doesn't care one little bit about how this impacts the lives of the working class.

But if y'all think Trump's trade wars are a problem, just wait until he starts a real one.

He's a horrible horrible mean evil corrupt made in America Hilter wannabe. He is despised and hated around the world.

I imagine there is going to be a lot of similar sentiments being expressed by other world leaders toward the overinflated Cheeto in the Oval Office.

No one is going to want to play with him. Watch him blubber.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/mexican-president-says-not-attend-170038112.html

"Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto canceled a planned Tuesday meeting with President Donald J. Trump on Thursday, signaling a remarkable souring of relations between Washington and one of its most important international partners just days into the new administration."

Considering Mexico is one of our number one buyers of exported goods and Trump wants to slap a 20% tariff on imported goods, Trump is royally screwing with our economy.

Judy Woodruff just smacked down kellyann’s lie, to her face, about trump being the first to back out of the meeting. It was the Mexican President that told trump to go to hell first.

One huge issue that trump has not addressed because he is fixated on his damn wall is the problem of people overstaying their visas, like his wife.

I know first hand, working as immigration paralegal that there are Indians on work visas that disappear or are not working (they are suppose to leave the country if they are not working).

There were also Nigerians, that were suppose to leave and didn’t. In fact one had to go back home, get a new visa and re-enter the country. She left her children in the USA and took their passports to Nigeria and got them stamped as though they were in Nigeria.

Basically consumers are going to pay for the wall. But it won’t matter because they are first going to use our TAX money, then they will hope everyone will have moved on to trump’s next crisis and forget that we were never paid back.

I doubt will never pass since American’s with foreign investments will get hit, ie trump.
    ==================

How a tax could make Mexico pay for the wall

Press secretary Sean Spicer walks back endorsing a House GOP tax proposal that could make Mexico pay for a border wall.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer suggested Thursday that the Trump administration backs a controversial House GOP tax proposal that could make Mexico pay for a border wall. He later walked back that endorsement, saying it's just "one possibility."

Such an endorsement, less than two weeks after Trump dismissed the idea as “too complicated,” would have been a major coup for House Republicans. Senate tax writers are leery of the idea, known as a border adjustment tax. It has also drawn opposition from retailers, oil refineries and free-market advocates.

    How would it work?

Under the House GOP plan, a 20 percent tax would apply to goods and services sold and consumed in the United States, whether they’re manufactured here or abroad. Exported goods would be exempt — their tax would be “adjusted” as they crossed the border. Companies also wouldn’t be taxed on profits they earnd abroad.
U.S. corporations would not be able to deduct the cost of products they import from other countries
    .
How would retailers and consumers be affected?

Retailers warn the tax would ultimately raise costs for consumers. But economists have said it’s more likely to come out in the wash, since the value of the dollar would theoretically rise because of the increased demand for U.S. exports and decreased domestic demand for imports.
The effect on the dollar, in theory, means U.S. distributors and consumers would not actually bear the cost of the tax. But Americans holding foreign investments would be hit.

What are the advantages of the proposal?
The plan’s appeal is that it would shift taxes to where sales are made, rather than where profits and losses are booked. This would eliminate the incentive for corporations to use tricky accounting maneuvers to list profits in tax havens and avoid U.S. tax. It would also limit the incentive for companies to move abroad.

It would raise over $1 trillion in revenue, which House Republicans want to use to balance losses from lowering tax rates overall. In some ways, it’s also simpler than the current system. There would be no need to calculate foreign credits, for instance, and there would be no point in profit-shifting shenanigans, since interest would no longer be deductible under the plan.

No sense getting worried at this point, trump and the republicans have no idea what in the hell they are doing. They make a statement and change it in an hour. In fact from listening to the PBS news about their little conference, it sounded like chaos.

Trump has his slogan build the wall, with no thought processes behind it.

    ==================================
Trump team walks back plan to fund wall with import tax

White House press secretary Sean Spicer suggested a tax on imports could fund the border security measure before backing off the proposal.

..... Spicer's initial statement about a proposed import tax drew criticism on Twitter from two Republican Senators.

"Tariffs are a tax on American families," tweeted Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.).

"Border security yes, tariffs no. Mexico is 3rd largest trading partner. Any tariff we can levy they can levy. Huge barrier to econ growth," Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) tweeted.
Graham then took a lighter approach: "Simply put, any policy proposal which drives up costs of Corona, tequila, or margaritas is a big-time bad idea. Mucho Sad," he wrote.

Not so fast, there, Gryphen. This ain't over.

Remember, we no longer have that weak so-called leader in the White House. Finally we have a president who is unafraid to keep nookular on the table when dealing with our lessers to the south.

THANK YOU LORD JEEBUS FOR PRESIDENT DRUMPF!

Do I think Mr. Drumpf is going to nuke Mexico to encourage them to pay for his magnificent wall? Well... no, probably not.

But, did I cancel my luxury golf getaway in El Paso later this winter? Of course, I did! I may be stupid enough to vote that lunatic, but I'm not crazy!

The sooner the rest of the world comes to fear our president as many Americans are beginning to fear him now, one week into his god-forsaken term of office, the happier and more peaceful the world will be.

    Until it isn't.
