Rachel Maddow sounds the alarm concerning Donald Trump's threat to the environment.

Courtesy of HuffPo:

Rachel Maddow said scientists who scrambled to save their data and copy it to non-government databases in the final days of the Obama administration weren’t being paranoid.

“Now we know, day four of the new administration, those people were not wrong to be freaked out,” Maddow said on her show Tuesday night. “And they probably, in the interest of science, were not wrong to be downloading and trying to save data privately because the data is disappearing.”

The EPA has been “effectively stopped” with no official announcement from the agency or the White House.

“The scientists are being told they are not allowed to speak or publish, it is already happening,” Maddow said. “It’s day four, it is already happening.”

I think this may be one of the most important stories that MSNBC is covering right now, and we all need to pay attention.

And it gets worse

A leaked copy of the Trump team’s plan for the EPA calls for slashing its budget, “terminating climate programs,” ending auto fuel-economy standards, and executing “major reforms of the agency’s use of science and economics.”

Donald Trump is a 70 year old conspiracy theorist with no respect for facts or science.

He is quite literally the WORST person to be put in charge of agencies that help to protect this planet.

And yet thanks to James Comey and Russia, there he is.

Trump Puts Fascism’s Implacable Foe George Orwell Atop the Bestseller Lists Again

...“The publisher of George Orwell’s “1984” is printing more copies after the book hit Amazon’s bestseller list.”

Orwell speaks to a new generation because the face of totalitarianism never changes. Orwell’s line, “Science, in the old sense, had almost ceased to exist. In Newspeak there is no word for science,” is as valid today as when he wrote it.

As Margaret Sullivan wrote at The Washington Post on Sunday, “when Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway told ‘Meet the Press’ Sunday that Spicer had been providing ‘alternative facts’ to what the media had reported,” it was made clear “we’ve gone full Orwell.”

FACT! "Political language — and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists — is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind."But there is actually another, more recent quote that more accurately describes the underlying issue at hand with Conway’s “alternative facts” phrasing. And of all places, it appeared on the British sci-fi show “Doctor Who” exactly 40 years to the day before Conway’s appearance on “Meet the Press.”
"You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don’t alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit the views."

Trump Abuses The Presidency By Demanding Executive Order Investigating Voter Fraud

Trump isn't just tweeting his bogus claims about voter fraud. He has ordered his White House to put together an executive order so that he can investigate voter fraud.

Trump has asked aides to prepare an executive action for his signature as soon as Thursday to order an investigation into voter fraud, two senior administration officials said Wednesday. The announcement is set to follow Trump’s public call for a probe in a pair of tweets Wednesday morning, and follows the White House confirming that the president still believes, without evidence, that 3 to 5 million votes were cast illegally in 2016 election, depriving him of a popular vote victory.”

The President is not going to sign an executive order to investigate voter fraud because voter fraud is a problem. The President isn’t taking this action because voter fraud is a crisis of national concern.

Trump is using the power of the presidency to launch a voter fraud investigation because he is mad that he lost the popular vote. America didn’t show Trump enough love at the polls, so the President Of The United States is going to prove that an election that he won was rigged.
Of all the important issues that the President should be focused on, Donald Trump is spending his time obsessing over the size of the crowd at his inauguration, and the fact that he lost the popular vote.

Donald Trump isn’t serving as president but is acting like the presidency exists to serve his egotistical whims.

Does Trump really want to lead this country into shame and barbarity, and undermine the values that have made us a great and respected nation? Does Trump really want to ignore the advice of U.S. military leaders who vigorously oppose torture? Does Trump really want to tell our military adversaries that, if America does it, they also have the right to torture captured American soldiers?

Fact Check: Trump Is Misleading America On The Cost Of His Immigration Executive Orders

Trump claimed that his immigration executive orders will save billions of dollars. An examination of the facts shows that Trump's plan could cost taxpayers billions, and economy trillions.

While speaking at the Department of Homeland Security, Trump said, “I just signed to executive orders that will save thousands of lives, millions of jobs, and billions and billions of dollars.”

    These statements are not true.

Donald Trump’s Supreme Court shortlist is reportedly down to these 3 men

There is news today that Trump has narrowed his list of possible nominees to fill Antonin Scalia's vacant seat on the Supreme Court to three people:
Judge Neil Gorsuch authored a book arguing against legalization of assisted suicide and euthanasia, arguing that "human life is fundamentally and inherently valuable, and that the intentional taking of human life by private persons is always wrong." As noted by Vox, this stance is a red flag for Gorsuch's attitudes on abortion.

He also sided with religious employers seeking to limit their employees’ rights to birth control coverage in the lower court decision in Hobby Lobby and is an outspoken proponent of limiting federal agencies’ authority to take regulatory action of any kind.
Judge Thomas Hardiman dissented from a decision by two of his colleagues upholding a New Jersey law providing that someone must demonstrate that they have a “justifiable need” before they can receive a license to carry a firearm in public.

Hardiman also holds the opinion that school officials may ban breast cancer awareness bracelets reading “I ♥ boobies! (KEEP A BREAST),” arguing that these bracelets fell within an exception to the First Amendment’s free speech protections for student speech that is “lewd, vulgar, indecent, or plainly offensive.” Nine of his colleagues disagreed.
Judge William "Bill" Pryor remains on the shortlist but there is strong opposition to him on the right because he joined the majority opinion on a case that protected transgender people from workplace discrimination. Don't feel bad for him though. Pryor is a forced birther and has attacked environmental protection laws, limits on privacy protection, and the reach of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
To build this list, Trump consulted with the ultra conservative, Koch-funded Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation. Democrats cannot allow anti-government, anti-science, anti-civil rights jurists to occupy the Supreme Court. They must use every tool they have to block any nominee that is ideologically opposed to progress and basic human decency.

...We don't yet know who the nominee will be but whoever Trump nominates will be positioned to shape U.S. policy for decades after his administration is dust in the wind. Democrats need to fight every unqualified nominee that comes before them, with every tool they've got.

But Emails! White House Staff Using Private RNC Email Accounts

Remember when George W. Bush "lost" 22 million emails that were hosted on a private server at the RNC?

      Yeah, me too.

And then remember how horrible and awful it was that Hillary Clinton had an outside server for her personal email and it was the topic of the "Lock Her Up!" chant at all of Trump's rallies?

      Yeah, me too.

Now Newsweek reports that much of the top-level White House staff has outside email accounts hosted at the RNC. I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you!
Senior Trump administration staffers including Kellyanne Conway, Jared Kushner, Sean Spicer and Steve Bannon have active accounts on a Republican National Committee email system, Newsweek has learned.

The system (rnchq.org) is the same one the George W. Bush administration was accused of using to evade transparency rules after claiming to have “lost” 22 million emails.
Making use of separate political email accounts at the White House is not illegal. In fact, they serve a purpose by allowing staff to divide political conversations (say, arranging for the president to support a congressional re-election campaign) from actual White House work. Commingling politics and state business violates the Hatch Act, which restricts many executive branch employees from engaging in political activity on government time.
But after then-candidate Donald Trump and the Republicans repeatedly called for “locking up” Hillary Clinton for handling government work with a private server while secretary of state, the new White House staff risks repeating the same mistake that dogged the Democrat’s presidential campaign. They also face a security challenge: The RNC email system, according to U.S. intelligence, was hacked during the 2016 race. “They better be careful after making such a huge ruckus over the private email over at the State Department,” says former Bush administration lawyer Richard Painter.

Is Judicial Watch on the job? Are they submitting FOIA requests right now to obtain all of those emails? Will they be publishing them in redacted tranches over the next four years?

      Well, WILL THEY?

Here's the crowd at the Republican National Convention shouting "Lock her up!" You think we'll hear it from them in 4 years when these staffers' emails land on Wikileaks? Doubtful.

Trump: Intel Community Told Me Torture 'Absolutely' Works

...President Donald Trump said Wednesday that "people at the highest level of intelligence" had told him within the past 24 hours that torture "absolutely" works.

In an interview with ABC’s David Muir, parts of which were published online Wednesday, Trump said he thought the use of waterboarding against ISIL would be justified, describing the practice as fighting "fire with fire."

"Would I feel strongly about waterboarding? As far I’m concerned, we have to fight fire with fire," he said. "Now, with that being said, I’m going with Gen. Mattis. I’m going with my secretary, because I think Pompeo is going to be phenomenal, I’m going to go with what they say," he said.

"But I have spoken as recently as 24 hours ago with people at the highest level of intelligence, and I asked them the question: ‘Does it work? Does torture work?’ And the answer is: 'Yes, absolutely,'" he continued.

...There is a wide consensus among diplomats and legal scholars, including in the United States, that waterboarding is torture. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Trump's nominee for attorney general, said that waterboarding is "absolutely" torture during a confirmation hearing.

Mattis wrote in a questionnaire for the Senate Armed Services Committee that "I fully support using the Army Field Manual as the single standard for all U.S military interrogations." The field manual prohibits waterboarding and other torture.

Mattis, Pompeo stunned by CIA 'black sites' report

The two officials in charge of Trump's terrorism detainee policies were 'blindsided' by a draft calling for the CIA to revisit techniques critics call torture.

....Sen. John McCain, who endured torture as a prisoner during the Vietnam War, said in a statement, “We are not bringing back torture in the United States of America.”

“The President can sign whatever executive orders he likes,” McCain said. “But the law is the law.”

Meanwhile, Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), the No. 3 Senate Republican, said he believes the issue is “settled law” and does not “anticipate that will change.”

“With respect to torture, that’s banned,” he said at the GOP’s policy retreat in Philadelphia. “The Army Field Manual makes that very clear and the law now is tied to the Army Field Manual.”...........

Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort hikes membership fees to $200,000

The Mar-a-Lago private resort owned by the Trump Organization in Palm Beach, Florida, hiked its membership fees to $200,000 in January after Donald Trump was elected U.S. president, a resort official said.

CNBC, which first reported on the joining fee hike, said members also pay $14,000 in annual dues to the club, which covers 20 acres (8 hectares) and features a private beach, beauty salon and ballroom. Trump has described the property as his “Winter White House.”

Fees had risen to $150,000 in June last year from $100,000 previously, said the official, who asked not to be named because she was not allowed to speak to the press. The fees then increased again effective Jan. 1, the official added.

Mar-a-Lago’s website calls the club “ultra exclusive” and says it provides “an elite lifestyle reserved for a select few.”

The Washington Post‘s Jennifer Rubin said in a column published Wednesday that she is genuinely concerned that Pres. Donald Trump is so out of touch with reality that he doesn’t know he’s lying.

Trump, she said, is clinging to obvious and easily disproven falsehoods in spite of the damage they are doing to his credibility as a leader. For instance, the belief that he only lost the popular vote because of “illegal voters.”

“The media, understandably, try to understand why Trump would tell such an easily debunked falsehood,” wrote Rubin, who strongly supported Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) in his run against Pres. Barack Obama in 2012, but did not support Trump in 2016. “Why lie when he is president anyway, by virtue of the electoral college? Why get this badly off track?”

“The supposition among pundits, elected officials and political insiders is that Trump, like his argument over the inaugural crowd size, ‘lies’ to make himself feel better. His staff salutes, repeats his lies and then gets bashed,” Rubin said.

“What if, however, he thoroughly, ‘honestly’ believes his crazy, unsubstantiated claims? When he denies saying something, what if he honestly does not, cannot recall statements that now come back to haunt him?” she asked.

I have no training in psychology and I am very wary of anyone's armchair diagnosis of the President. But let's stop and consider what he's implying. Our election system is in shambles. And that not only calls into question HIS election, but EVERY down ballot race. This would be a conspiracy of epic proportions. This is "we faked the moon landing" kind of stuff. Of course what this really is is pure and unadulterated horse manure. And everyone in Washington KNOWS it. That's what's so troubling. There are real issues around voting in our country but they mostly center on questions of fairness, access and intimidation. By all means let's investigate that.
As for the notions of 'VOTER FRAUD' (Mr. Trump's all caps) from what discredited blog or which unscrupulous advisor is the President getting this craziness? Or is HE just making it up? Does he really BELIEVE it? Is it just the height of cynicism and distraction? None of these options are in the least bit comforting. But most Republicans in Congress seem just fine silently nodding along as long as they get their “conservative” (reactionary, in the view of opponents) agenda enacted. On policy, they have every right. They won their elections and that merits respect, no matter how grudging. But the tone and content of the falsehoods and sheer propaganda originating from the White House is another matter - and that is NOT to be RESPECTed.
Is there a political price to pay for this descent into the Twilight Zone? Because in the real world, we are all being affected.
As I have said many times before, I believe the overwhelming majority of Trump voters are decent-intending people who love our country as much as I do. But with such things as the LIE about “voter fraud”, I don’t think the press should ask any of President Trump’s supporters--especially those in Congress--a question on any other topic - before they can answer, what the HELL is going on...and do they approve of it?"

"It is vital to be clear about the FACT that Trump is lying — intentionally, deliberately and consistently — about so-called “illegal” voting.
Trump’s popular-vote defeat is an obsession of HIS. He returns regularly to the issue of HIS missing mandate and the questions it raises about the legitimacy of his presidency."
" The reason that Donald Trump lost the popular vote is because most Americans don’t prefer him.”
" he is using the bully pulpit of the presidency to deliberately deceive the American people."

Protest Group Puts GIANT Sign On Crane Next To White House; Trump’s Gonna Lose His Mind (IMAGE)

If there’s one thing Donald Trump doesn’t like, it’s not being liked or loved. He seems to want people to only say nice things to him or about him, and only do things that are favorable to him.

The moment anyone dare criticize Trump, or write a bit of negative press about him, he flips out, becomes unhinged, and will go on a rant about how horrible those who dare criticize him are. Usually via his medium of choice — Twitter.

Well, one group doesn’t really seem to give a flying f*ck about what Trump thinks of them and are giving him the ultimate middle finger by placing a protest sign on a crane pretty much next to the White House, and definitely visible from the White House.

    That group? Greenpeace.

The Netherlands and Other Nations Offer to Fund Abortions Abroad to Make Up for Trump's Cuts.

According to the Dutch development ministry, as many as 20 other nations have indicated that they might support the country's effort to fund programs with about $600 million in total over the next two to three weeks. This would fill the predicted financial gap caused by Trump's policy change over the next four years.

We were just alerted that the White House sent out a blast to reporters today that THE WEEK calls a "propaganda-like email lauding Trump's accomplishments."

It's basically a series of flattering things (some taken out of context) that reporters, anchors and other media outlets have said/printed about the President in the last few days.

POLITICO notes: "Such emails are common during campaigns, but rare from the White House, as federal resources are rarely used so explicitly to promote praise of the president."

The Era Of Trump/Bannon "Managed Media" Begins

...Under Trump's new authoritarianism, it appears that federal agencies will be providing less and less information to the press, the public, and perhaps even Congress. hat information is provided will more and more "massaged" before it gets released. The administration's lies will continue so that it becomes harder and harder to decipher fact from fiction. Trump will have various propaganda outfits from which to create even more confusion and attack other, more traditional, media outlets. And Trump will have the bully pulpit to continue the lies and attack the media. In the end, Trump and his propaganda outlets will become the dominant media player.

If you doubt this result, take a look at how Putin neutered the Russian media. There was no mass shutdown of opposition media. Certain troublesome reporters were simply eliminated...

    People!

There are 194 Democrats in The House of Representatives. If 24 more are elected, then Democrats would have a 218 vote majority and would take control of The House, would appoint a Speaker of The House and would control all committees and sub-committees.

There are 48 Democrats in The Senate. If 3 more are elected then Democrats would have a 51 -49 vote majority and would take control of The Senate, would appoint a Majority Leader and would control all committees and sub-committees. Further, Democrats would have virtually total control over whether and when to bring Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominees and any pieces of legislation up for a vote.

These statistics are from this article:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/richard-greene/it-only-takes-286-people_b_14315334.html

We have work to do over the next 2 years. This should be our short-term and long-term goals. Work hard in your state to get the Democrats back in the majority. 24 and 3 seems very doable!

    1. We need to start NOW for 2018.

Can lose a seat and must GAIN seats.

Then the Oval Office in 2020.

But that's not enough. The Democrats MUST take back state legislatures starting NOW.

This is essential because of redistricting in 2020.

Look at the maps and realize how many R's are incumbents and will win their seats again in 2018.

2018 midterm is the one where Dems can't LOSE any seats but we are unlikely to win any.

2020 is up for grabs but we just need to stay the course in 2018, although those sorts of elections tend to not draw enough crowds on the D front so maybe expect a redux of 2010?

      It's up to you.

  32. You can't put it all on Comey and the Russians.

A great deal of the blame can be placed at the feet of the RNC. They could have stopped him in the primaries quite easily. But winning was more important.

Blame also needs to be placed at the gullible, uneducated Deplorables that swallowed every false story and ignored every blatant fault and shortcoming and voted for the stupid sonofabitch anyway.

Comey couldn't have done what he did without Trump running for president. The Republicans put him on the ticket.
