The grownup has left the building. But not entirely.

Somehow I think that President and Mrs. Obama are going to accomplish more good with this center than the Trump administration will even attempt in the next four years.

Here is a longer message the President sent out to all of us:

My fellow Americans,

It's a long-standing tradition for the sitting president of the United States to leave a parting letter in the Oval Office for the American elected to take his or her place. It's a letter meant to share what we know, what we've learned, and what small wisdom may help our successor bear the great responsibility that comes with the highest office in our land, and the leadership of the free world.

But before I leave my note for our 45th president, I wanted to say one final thank you for the honor of serving as your 44th. Because all that I've learned in my time in office, I've learned from you. You made me a better President, and you made me a better man.

Throughout these eight years, you have been the source of goodness, resilience, and hope from which I've pulled strength. I've seen neighbors and communities take care of each other during the worst economic crisis of our lifetimes. I have mourned with grieving families searching for answers -- and found grace in a Charleston church.

I've taken heart from the hope of young graduates and our newest military officers. I've seen our scientists help a paralyzed man regain his sense of touch, and wounded warriors once given up for dead walk again. I've seen Americans whose lives have been saved because they finally have access to medical care, and families whose lives have been changed because their marriages are recognized as equal to our own. I've seen the youngest of children remind us through their actions and through their generosity of our obligations to care for refugees, or work for peace, and, above all, to look out for each other.

I've seen you, the American people, in all your decency, determination, good humor, and kindness. And in your daily acts of citizenship, I've seen our future unfolding.

All of us, regardless of party, should throw ourselves into that work -- the joyous work of citizenship. Not just when there's an election, not just when our own narrow interest is at stake, but over the full span of a lifetime.

I'll be right there with you every step of the way.

And when the arc of progress seems slow, remember: America is not the project of any one person. The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word 'We.' 'We the People.' 'We shall overcome.'

Yes, we can.

Hang on, there seems to be something in my eye.

And it looks like I'm not the only one.

Leadership of the free world? Sorry, President Obama, but the office is no longer that, and now, sadly and barely, and not for long, is it leadership of a free country.

Let me tell you about a sad little incident this evening. I am so distraught about T.Rump's usurpation of the White House, that I bought a US flag and shortly after noon today, proceeded to hang it up upside down on the front of our home. THis is a recognized (in the US flag code) sign of distress. (Flying the American flag upside down is an officially recognized signal of distress. § 8(a)The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property) I foresee the Constitution itself as in danger, as well as Western civilization values it was based on. (T.Rump's latest threat is to defund the NEA, NEH and public broadcasting.)

Yes, I feel that as a woman, as a middle class citzen, my life and property are in danger with uneducated, illiterate phiistine T.Rump illegitmately occupying the White House. My husband is (probably somewhat rightl)y concerned about atacks on our home; my children are concerned about their high school friends response (there are some T.Rump rich, greedy red hatters there.) I will not give up my right to free speech and experession.

However, if these attitudes of complacency continue, I'm off to Canada if even my family does not come around - mind you not one was a T.RUmp supporter, mostly Bernie. It will be a permanent move if Canada will have me. It isn't worth fighting for people, even family, who think that going along to get along and sacrficing rights by implied intimidation is OK.

I'm weeping for how close we came to a functioning society, a really free country. At how little itwill take to destroy it, because peopel will do nothing, before it becoems too late.
Whiel I remain here, I'll be organizing parties to call the Congress critters and let them know that the defunding and the stripping of rights, stealign of cash, and return to wage slavery will to be tolerated.

The moronic Trump voters in 2016 failed to realize that it takes much less time to destroy or tear something down than it does to build up or repair something. Case in point is all of the work and time that Mr Obama spent (and continues to do, though he's no longer President) to help and rebuild our country after the disastrous Dubya years. Unfortunately, we'll have to repeat the Bush years only I'm afraid the Trump years will be far worse.

He's going to be so involved in this admin. No way is he going to stop doing something because of the Sabbath. He'll get a blanket lifting of all restrictions for four years. But he'll still claim to be Orthodox. And if, as it appears, he's being groomed to run for pres one day, what, is he going to put his orthodoxy on complete cold for four years or possibly eight? If his religion is so important to him, he should have some real issues with the idea of not doing as he's supposed to to fulfill his responsibilities to his faith and his God.

They'll blame Democrats and President Obama, of course, but they will be the cause of the problems. As usual. This is how the GOP operates.

Good luck as you continue to work in a federal building. We have relatives who have been patriotic, serious federal civil servants for many years. We fear for their jobs and for the agencies where they, and so many others, have worked seriously on behalf of the American people over the past two centuries. The GOP and Trump will take the American government down brick by brick, employee by employee, until nothing remains. Remember that Republicans have sworn loyalty, not to the country, but to Grover Norquist for decades now. We are supposed to become the kind of mess Russia is today - full of hatred, drunkenness, pollution and jealousy directed at those with better lives.

No ACA repeal without a damn good replacement. Right now, the mortgage insurance thing is a problem. Doing something public and symbolic like an upside down flag is about using your First Amendment right. It gives others hope to see they are not alone. Enough go up and it will make the little Trumpkins wonder ... just how badly did they screw up? You see, like T.Rump, they've always been jealous of the cool kids, the witty kids, the people just having high quality pleasure. Yes, these individual signals of distress may not affect the political change RIGHT NOW, but until the next election (and short of violent revolution), you DO KNOW there is very little that will affect change at this point.

But, that's not a reason to not in some way register one's dissent. The protests tomorrow will at least show the rest of the world that we're not all insane in this country.

We must protest while we can, because if Trump has his way, these protests may ultimately have no publicity; no reflection of their even happening recorded in "the nasty, unfair press".

  13. Thankfully, Drumpf can only do some redecorating of the West Wing, with approval of the committee that's in charge of the White House. And unless he's willing to spend his own money, he's limited to $100,000.

That won't go far towards recreating his favored style: Versailles Vomit.

    http://www.mcmansionhell.com/post/156089992596/whos-style-is-that-louis-xiv-or-donald-trump-an

"The Trumps could do renovations to bring it up to their standards, but most of the ‘people’s house’ is under the control of the Committee for the Preservation of the White House. They do have a lot of lea way in redecorating the West Wing. It would be hard because the budget is set at just a measly $100,000 dollars of the tax payers money at present, but the President can spend more of his own money for improvements – subject of course to the Committee for the Preservation of the White House approval.

The committee is for the most part very accommodating to the new residents."

(But I have a feeling even they would put their feet down on some of Trump's style ideas. After all, it's the people's house. Not the people's whore house.)

Oh, and 2018 is TOO LATE. It needs to start yesterday. The current DNC leadership isn't prepared and none of those running for chair are inspiring or seem to have a plan to not only maintain the Democratic seats but start to gain them back. It's not just Congress, it's state too. There will be redistricting in 2020 and too many states are owned by Republican governors and Republican legislatures. The time is NOW, not in two years. In two years all you can do is make sure the lazy and stupid Democrats that skip the midterms because they don't think they're important get out to vote. But you can't gain anything relying simply on get out the vote. That LOST us 2016. That is a failed strategy.

Apparently (by way of Vogue magazine), Melania wants a "glam room" much like Kris Jenner has, a kind of glorified closet with special lighting for her to use as she spends over an hour to prepare her (or have herself prepared) for the day. She could use the First Lady's office. I cannot imagine why she would need that space to work on projects with her team to help Americans, as Mrs. Obama helped children both here around the world and US military families.

Get prepared to be arrested or shot because you don't' pledge allegience to our new fuhrer. Get prepared for the GOP to run America like Kim Jong runs North Korea. Maybe Sarah was accidentally prophetic when she said N. Korea was our ally. Anything is possible now in this upside down twilight zone. So many regret their Trump vote. This is what we get when democrats are too busy to pay attention, to fact check, to become involved, when we aren't active! This is the price we have to pay now. This is what dems get for playing "nice". We should have learned a few lessons from the extreme right that have been mobilized and super-actiive for years.

Our freedoms will be taken away one by one, including severe penalties for free speech:

Republican Lawmakers in Five States Propose Bills to Criminalize Peaceful Protest

In North Dakota, for instance, Republicans introduced a bill last week that would allow motorists to run over and kill any protester obstructing a highway as long as a driver does so accidentally. In Minnesota, a bill introduced by Republicans last week seeks to dramatically stiffen fines for freeway protests and would allow prosecutors to seek a full year of jail time for protesters blocking a highway. Republicans in Washington state have proposed a plan to reclassify as a felony civil disobedience protests that are deemed “economic terrorism.”

Why does it feel like LOTR, when they were leaving Lothlorien, but as they rounded the bend in teh river, there was that swan boat, with Celeborn and Galadriel, there to have one last picnic and talk with them.

Come all ye Frodos, it's time to see that the One Ring is thrown into Orodruinn and destroyed forever.

The gates or Mordor have come to us.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump didn't even wait a day to first step to repealing the ACA. He's for going to try to repeal every bit of progress that Obama worked for the last eight years. All because he knows he is NOTHING compared to Barack Obama.

Donald Trump is a national disgrace. Until he earns my respect, I will never refer to him as President Trump.

I didn't watch his inauguration speech but I heard it was hateful. How the Clintons and Obamas sat through that I don't know. Is it true he said something in his speech like he was going to work from day one to remove all of Obama's executive orders? How freaking rude! But then again NOTHING is beneath Donald Trump.

Years ago in my hippie days in New Orleans a handicapped friend of mine laquered in the bottom of his toilet a picture of Nixon. Well I'm thinking about doing the same thing with a picture of Donald so I can pee & shit on his face every day.

By the end several members of the audience (of a Democratic bend) had tears in their eyes. I'm glad I didn't see it; I wouldn't have slept a wink, much like election night.

If looks could kill, we would be have a funeral today, especially when he started in about the carnage: Obama, Biden, GW Bush all looked disgusted and Michelle was livid.
