Trump gets handed his first defeat over Muslim ban.

So yesterday started out like this.

Courtesy of Slate:

There appears to be lots of chaos and confusion in airports around the world after President Donald Trump signed an executive order that effectively bans travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries— Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen—from entering the United States for 30 days.(Update at 4:30 p.m. Eastern: Contrary to initial reports, the ban is for 90 days.) It also places a four-month halt to the country’s refugee program. There are now scattered reports that the order is affecting those who already have green cards and visas.

Some travelers are being turned away at airports around the world and not allowed to board flights to the United States despite having valid travel documents. Reuters, for example, hears word from sources at the airport in Cairo that six travelers—five from Iraq and one from Yemen—were forbidden from boarding a flight to the United States even though they had valid visas.

Hours after Trump signed the executive order a mosque was set on fire in Texas.

All of this inspired multiple protests.

And caused world leaders to condemn his actions:

European leaders, the United Nations and international groups have condemned US President Donald Trump's measures against refugees and travellers from several Muslim-majority countries.

Oddly enough Trump's executive order only included countries that he does NOT do business with.

Interesting, don't you think?

Ultimately the ACLU and others filed a class action lawsuit, and this was the result:

The American Civil Liberties Union announced Saturday evening that a federal court in New York had issued an emergency stay on President Trump’s executive order banning immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries. The court’s decision, which will affect people who have been detained in airports, came after the ACLU and other activist groups filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of two Iraqis who were held at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York as a result of the order.

“I hope Trump enjoys losing. He’s going to lose so much we’re going to get sick and tired of his losing,” ACLU national political director Faiz Shakir told Yahoo News shortly after the decision was announced.

I think I agree with that statement.

The America people are fired up like I have never seen them before, and it seems very likely that they are willing to fight Donald Trump every step of the way on his agenda to destroy our country and undermine its values.

I just love what Bill Maher said about how Drumpf holds up those EO's (that BANNON writes) up after signing them; that he looks like a kindergartener saying to Mommy, "Look! I colored in the lines this time! Can you put it on the fridge?"

And I suuuure hope someone looks at the legality - or lack therof - of the ol' switcheroo they tried to pull re: Bannon and the higher-ups at the NSC. And DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

This has been killing me all week! So much so that I actually looked around online to see if there was video of Obama ever holding up something he signed. Nope. He'd sign and then close the cover. He'd hand it to someone or the person would take it from the table. Often, as the paper lay on the table signed, a camera would close in on it. WTF is with Trump having to hold up everything and show it like he's a first-grade teacher!

And the way he talks when he gets ready to sign. Ugh. That voice.

AND there's the hands. Those fat sausage fingers that are so smooth because he's never done a bit of manual labor or exercise all his life.

The problem is - it isn't a defeat. The Nazi's in the WH are defying the court order and the pussy men in congress are allowing the Nazi takeover.

Bannon is Rasputin. Trump has put him on the National Security Council and he will attend all the NSC Principals meetings. But he is limiting the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the Direct of National Security to only those NSC meetings that have to do with their areas. This is unprecedented and even john McCain is flipping shit about it. We were worried about his son in law being the proxy president but based on this decision and that bannon is actually writing the executive orders, we know who it really is.

    3. Anonymous4:56 AM

I agree that Bannon seems to be in charge. What I wonder is why has Trump turned over so much power to him? What does Bannon know about the 45th president that he is so afraid of having known publicly? Whatever Bannon is holding over Trump, it must be enough to bring Trump tumbling down into a blob of orange goo.

Hollywood reacted in horror to the news of President Donald Trump’s executive order blocking all refugees from Syria, as well as barring citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries for the next 90 days.

Many celebrities who have been actively challenging Trump’s presidency criticized the refugee ban by sharing personal anecdotes and calls to action on social media.

Pakistani-born “Silicon Valley” star Kumail Nanjiani, who was accosted by Trump supporters in a Los Angeles bar last year, posted a series of tweets that highlighted the ban’s fundamental flaw and pointed to the damaging effects the policy will have on Muslims in and outside American borders.

    1) It is clear that countries with whom he has business ties are exempt from the ban.

    2) He has banned only countries with whom he does not have business ties.

    3) The ban is allegedly based on increasing safety, yet no one who has attacked us came from any of the banned countries.

    4) People who HAVE attacked the US HAVE come from countries NOT on the banned list.

    5) Is the ban meant to pressure countries into sponsoring and promoting trump's business interests in order to get off the banned list?

    Is this constitutional?

This is OT, but I was just thinking about how today makes one week since Melania left DC. Tonight will be the 8th night since the Trumps spent the night together. It doesn't seem to bother either of them.

As of Thursday, Melania had still hired no FLOTUS staff. She finally hired someone on Friday, and events planner. No assistant or press secretary, etc.--none of the most important several jobs have been dealt with.

It's mind-blowing that she didn't know (unless she lied) that Barron didn't have school last Mon. and Tues. She said she had to leave Sun. because Barron had school. I wonder when she plans on bothering to make another DC trip.

Prevent Donald Trump from making a State Visit to the United Kingdom.

Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.

Donald Trump's well documented misogyny and vulgarity disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales. Therefore during the term of his presidency Donald Trump should not be invited to the United Kingdom for an official State Visit.

I think the chaos, confusion and outrage were absolutely planned and anticipated with two aims: first, sow ongoing outrage early and often with the intention of wearing people out; second, it created cover for a worse outrage which was the removal of the head of the joint chiefs and the director of national intelligence from the national security council and adding nazi Bannon. Trump and his enablers intend to act unconstitutionally and let others push back. If this was not enough to show our Dem senators not to normalize Trump, we are fucked.

And I don't believe the bs being offered by trump et al about this not being a Muslim ban when he ran on that for months and months.

I live in Canada and was SO PROUD of my Prime Minister who posted photos of him at the airport personally welcoming our new Syrian citizens to our country and this statement about Canadian values on Facebook and Twitter last night -

"To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada"

While I say this I am also impressed with the people who have gone to airports to protest and to welcome those who are released. It's horrifying to imagine what they've gone through and my heart breaks for those who were frightened into turning around and going back where they came from.

Nazi tactics are not American values and I can't believe that the Republicans are sitting by watching this without the appropriate reaction.
