Trump just fired his acting Attorney General for refusing to enforce his Muslim ban. Update!

"The acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, has betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States."

No, in fact she refused to enforce an unconstitutional order that will do nothing but harm citizens of the United States.

And good for her for doing so.

Didn't Nixon also fire his Attorney General?

Yes he did.

Update: And the hits keep coming.
So now we know how Donald Trump handles dissent.

He can't.

You just showed again that you don't thoroughly read what you link. Sloppy. Nixon didn't fire his attorney general. Nixon wanted his attorney general Elliot Richardson to fire the watergate special prosecutor Archibald Cox when Cox subpoena'd the oval office tapes. Richardson refused and resigned in protest. Then Nixon ordered the Deputy Atty Gen. William Ruckelshaus to fire Cox. Ruckelshaus refused and resigned in protest. Nixon's solicitor general Robert Bork fired Cox.

      Let the telegrams begin!!!!!
      =======================

The Saturday Night Massacre was the term used by political commentators[1] to refer to U.S. President Richard Nixon's dismissal of independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox, and as a result the resignations of Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus on October 20, 1973, during the Watergate scandal.[2][3

On November 14, 1973, federal District Judge Gerhard A. Gesell ruled that the dismissal of Cox was illegal, in the absence of a finding of extraordinary impropriety as specified in the regulation establishing the special prosecutor's office.[8]

Congress was infuriated by the act, which was seen as a gross abuse of presidential power.

The public sent in an unusually large number of telegrams to both the White House and Congress.[9][10] Less than a week after the Saturday Night Massacre, an Oliver Quayle poll for NBC News showed that for the first time, a plurality of U.S. citizens now supported impeachment of Nixon, with 44% in favor, 43% opposed, and 13% undecided, with a sampling error of 2 to 3 percent.[11]

In the days that followed, numerous resolutions of impeachment against the president were introduced in Congress.

Well, I read that wiki article and it linked to this page:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethics_in_Government_Act

Seems that Nixon, the whole scandal and that Saturday Night Massacre lead to the Ethics in Government Act. That is the act that It created mandatory, public disclosure of financial and employment history of public officials and their immediate family. And, that is what is being short changed by Trump and his appointments who have NOT filled out the forms.

Time for the public to cry for another impeachment it seems to me.

And considering she has a LOT more knowledge of what is legal or not, I would tend to believe HER over that liar and his sycophant Bannon - who is defintely NOT qualified to participate in government.

There is a major difference between replacing people as all new administrations do and firing someone because they defied an illegal order.

“Based upon the Office of Legal Counsel’s analysis, which found the Executive Order both lawful on its face and properly drafted, I hereby rescind former Acting Attorney General Sally Q. Yates January 30, 2017, guidance and direct the men and women of the Department of Justice to do our sworn duty and to defend the lawful orders of our President,” Boente said in a statement. --

#MondayNightMassacre: Internet scalds Trump for firing ‘god damned America hero’ Sally Yates
    .....
In a statement, the White House said Yates “betrayed” the Trump administration with her decision.

“Ms. Yates is an Obama Administration appointee who is weak on borders and very weak on illegal immigration,” the White House said.

....The move prompted many observers to rail against the “fascist” undertones of Trump’s decision, with many using the hashtag #MondayNightMassacre to describe the events.....

The order is expected to commission several different reviews of the government’s offensive and defensive cyber capabilities, according to two other sources briefed on a draft of the order that circulated last week.

Nixon's resignation was forced by his fundamental error in making then altering the tapes of conversations between himself and others conspiring to obstruct justice.

The Saturday Night Massacre was more an indication that Nixon was loosing it than a contributor to his downfall. Woodward and Berstein DID "follow the money". But it's probable that without the tapes (and the missing 18 minutes) that Nixon would have finished his term.

Only the most ardent supporter of Trump can't see that he is loosing it. But we will need a fundamental error on Trump's part to be rid of him.

There is certainly some in this administration that will exploit Trump's weaknesses until he is no longer useful, then invoke the 25th amendment. It's possible that Trump won't be allowed to make a fundamental error until he's been exploited to the hilt.

Most of Trump’s executive orders aren’t actually executive orders. Here’s why that matters.

............Issuing orders without consultation may undermine implementation
The fact that many of the directives issued seem to have been drafted without input from the departments they affect will probably not help with their implementation. Normally executive orders go through a central clearance process managed by OMB. This is both to produce buy-in from the wider bureaucracy, and to protect the president against unintended policy consequences (and/or from the effects of sloppy or misleading language.)
Orders are also supposed to be reviewed by the Justice Department for “form and legality,” ensuring that they are consistent with existing law and presidential authority.

They’re not all executive orders. They’re mostly presidential memoranda.
One last point — on vocabulary. Though nearly every headline (and White House staffer for that matter) has trumpeted a spate of “executive orders,” so far these directives are mostly not executive orders but “presidential memoranda.”

Does this matter? Yes. Executive orders (EOs) and presidential memoranda (PMs) have slightly different purposes, though they blend together at the margins and have equivalent legal effect.

Orders do just that: they order people in the executive branch to act a certain way, normally by changing structure or process. They might delegate presidential power, or set up an interagency committee, or a process by which the costs and benefits of regulatory proposals should be evaluated, or conditions with which federal contractors must comply.

Memoranda tend to prompt action rather than to direct it. A president might use one to “suggest” to an agency with its own statutory power over a given area how that power should be used — that the agency should issue certain guidance about how a law should be implemented, or that it should come up with an action plan to review extant regulations and come up with new ones.................

Slowing but surely little impulsive donnie is undermining his legitimacy. Putting all ‘YES men’ in is going to be his undoing.
    ====================================

When Sally Yates was questioned by the Senate Judiciary Committee before her appointment as Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, III asked her a key question.

"Well, you have to watch out because people will be asking you to do things and you have to say no," Sessions admonished. "Do you think the Attorney General has the responsibility to say no to the President if he asks for something that's improper?"

He went on to use the Lynch nomination as an example of what he meant. "He appointed somebody who's going to execute his views. What's wrong with that?"

But, "If the views the president wants to execute are unlawful, should the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General say no?"

"Senator, I believe that the Attorney General or Deputy Attorney General has an obligation to follow the law and the Constitution, and to give their independent legal advice to the President," she answered.

Tonight she made good on that answer, and was fired for it.

Meanwhile, the new Acting Attorney General bows before Hair Trump:
WASHINGTON (AP) - New acting attorney general directs Justice Department to defend Trump's executive order on immigration and refugees.

.....Despite the obvious tension between the Koch network and Trump administration, Koch leaders say they're confident about their ability to shape the direction of the Trump administration's policies from the inside.

There is perhaps no bigger Koch ally than Vice President Mike Pence, whose staff and ideology has been in close alignment with the Kochs for years.

Koch spoke directly with the vice president on the phone days before his inauguration as Pence considered hiring a Koch communications staffer, Stephen Ford, to serve as his chief speechwriter. Ford was soon hired, along with former Koch chief Marc Short, who now serves as the White House legislative director.

"The reason we're optimistic ... is really Mike Pence," said Doug Deason, a prominent Trump supporter and major Koch donor. "If you think Cheney had power in Bush White House, just watch and see what happens with Mike Pence."

Trump had congressional staffers that worked on the muslin ban sign non-disclosure agreements swearing them to secrecy!
    ============================

    This is The Big Story

For all the pyrotechnics at the Justice Department today, this may be the bigger story. There's been confusion over the last three days over whether Republicans on Capitol Hill were briefed, consulted or involved in writing President Trump's now infamous immigration executive order. The White House has said they were. Republicans on the Hill said the first they heard of it was in news reports.

    Now we have an explanation.

According to this story in Politico, the White House worked with senior staffers on the House Judiciary Committee to draft the order. But those staffers, who work ultimately for Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), didn't tell their bosses. In other words, they secretly collaborated with White House staff without informing the members of Congress they work for. Indeed, the administration went so far as to have them sign non-disclosure agreements swearing them to secrecy!

This is quite simply unheard of.

To be clear, the executive works with Congress all the time to craft legislation. That's the President working with members of Congress, though much of the actual work is delegated to staff. All normal. It's congressional staff working for the executive without telling the members of Congress they work for which is the big deal........

Mystery Convoy Of 'Military' Vehicles Flying 'Trump' Flag Spotted In Kentucky

A convoy of military vehicles flying a "Trump" flag was caught on video driving through Louisville, Kentucky, on Sunday.

In the recording, four vehicles—the first flying a blue flag with "TRUMP" and "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN" emblazoned in white—drive down Interstate 65, according to a report by the Courier-Journal.

IndivisibleKY, a self-described activist organization formed after President Donald Trump's 2016 election victory, posted video of the convoy on its website on Monday.
Chris Rowzee, a spokeswoman for IndivisibleKY, said she was "disturbed" to see the flag on a military vehicle.

"To show a partisan political leaning on a military vehicle is very reminiscent of Nazi Germany," she said, as quoted by the Courier-Journal.

Defense Department spokesman Maj. Jamie Davis said that it would violate regulations to fly that flag on a military vehicle.

"That is not standard procedure,” he said as quoted in the report.

Davis said it would also violate regulations to run a military convoy with no unit markings on the vehicles, and said he did not think the vehicles belonged to any service branch. Per the report, he suggested that they were military surplus.

Tracey Metcalf, administrator for the Military Vehicle Preservation Association, said the color of the convoy suggests the vehicles did or do belong to the Army.

Patrick Hodges, a spokesman for Ft. Knox, told the Courier-Journal that the convoy was not theirs, as did Maj. Stephen Martin, director of public affairs for the Kentucky National Guard.

Army spokeswoman Lt. Col. Jennifer Johnson said that photos of the vehicles were "too blurry to say if they belonged to Army units," according to the report.

What Are These 'Trump Flags' About?

....But this is not the only appearance of the so-called "Trump flag." In Oregon, two men were arrested after circling a rally protesting Trump's Muslim ban executive order, while flying a Trump flag......

Trump flags are available on Amazon.com in two-packs for $10.99 on sale right now.

How long do you suppose it will be before Trump just hands them out free to his "private security" force?

To get a better understanding of what's going on, read the Daily Beast interview with President Bannon from 2013. He brags that he wants to tear down all the establishments, including the heads of congress. That would explain why Fat Donald picked Cabinet heads that are totally against what their department stands for. Education to a woman who hates public schools. EPA to a guy who's sued them dozens of times. Labor to a guy who doesn't believe in minimum wage, overtime, or actual human workers. HHS to a crooked MD who wants to dismantle ACA and Medicare. And of course, Rick Perry to the agency he wanted to abolish. And now President Bannon is on the National Security Council, setting policy, and we are so screwed. Write your Republican reps in DC. Call their local office. Every day. All day. Resist!

  46. "The term “regulation” is framed from the viewpoint of corporations and other businesses. From their viewpoint, “regulations” are limitations on their freedom to do whatever they want no matter who it harms. But from the public’s viewpoint, a regulation is a protection against harm done by unscrupulous corporations seeking to maximize profit at the cost of harm to the public.

Imagine our minority President saying out loud that he intends to get rid of 75% of public protections. Imagine the press reporting that. Imagine the NY Times, or even the USA Today headline: Trump to Eliminate 75% of Public Protections. Imagine the media listing, day after day, the protections to be eliminated and the harms to be faced by the public.

Congressional Republicans called for immediate elimination of regulations from the Food and Drug Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Security and Exchange Commission. What would be eliminated? Protections against cancerous poisons in foods, drugs untested for their safety, unsafe drinking water, air pollutants that get into your lungs and can’t get out, fraudulent stack sales, unscrupulous mortgages. That is what our president and Congress are proposing, hiding it behind the word “regulations.” Words have meanings with real effects.

Imagine reporters finding out and reporting all over America exactly what protections would be removed. Imagine Republican officials, and media in their districts (including social media) swamped with calls, letters, emails, and tweets from voters protesting the removal of such protections, day after day. That is only one example of shifting the frame — the word and the meaning of the word — to a public viewpoint."

    https://georgelakoff.com/2017/01/28/the-publics-viewpoint-regulations-are-protections/

"President Donald Trump signed an order on Monday that will seek to dramatically pare back federal regulations by requiring agencies to cut two existing regulations for every new rule introduced.

"This will be the biggest such act that our country has ever seen. There will be regulation, there will be control, but it will be normalized control," Trump said as he signed the order in the Oval Office, surrounded by a group of small business owners.

Trump's latest executive action will prepare a process for the White House to set an annual cap on the cost of new regulations, a senior official told reporters ahead of the signing."

Gregg Phillips, who originated the conspiracy theory that 3 million voted illegally in the November election, which Trump seized upon after he lost the popular vote, was registered to vote in Alabama, Texas and Mississippi, The Associated Press reported on Monday. Phillips only voted once, in Alabama."

  48. "White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said he found it quite “sad” that Senate Democrats are preparing to filibuster President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, without even considering his or her qualifications.

“He met with a bunch of Senate Democrats to talk about the qualities they want in a judge. And before they’ve even heard who this individual is, you’ve got some of them saying, ‘Absolutely no.’ That just shows you that it’s all about politics. It’s not about qualification,” Spicer told reporters in his daily briefing Monday.

“The president has a right to have his nominees taken up,” he added. “And so for them the default used to be, ‘unless qualified, confirmed.’ And it is now going to, ‘always no.’ I think that’s a pretty sad message.”"

To which I respond, why? Obama had the right to have Merrick Garland considered and yet his nominee was blocked for 10 months. Trump shouldn't have any expectation of being treated better than the man he claimed was born in Kenya and had no right to be president. Well, Trump, you are mentally ill and unfit for the office. You have committed impeachable offenses. I think the Democrats are more than justified in blocking your nominee given that you may be impeached at any moment.

So do something about your stupid threats! If you actually believe that is what is happening, report it. Only under a Humpty Trumpty administration would believe discussing history would be considered a threat.

Discussing possibilities and comparing things to previous historical events are NOT threats, stupid.

And if you think YOUR threats or pronouncements will deter a free discussion, your either haven't been around IM very long or are just plain STUPID! Like Humpty Trumpty.

First, 6:48 CLEARLY stated it is his/her FEAR that it will happen.

It's not enough that the Judicial Branch has disappeared from the White House.

Trump wants to be King. He wants to be Supreme Dictator.

He wants to "fire" anyone that crosses him and replace them with toadies and yes-men.

You can be sure any supreme court nominee he chooses will be loyal to TRUMP, not the Constitution and will vote however he tells them to vote.

At this point I'm thinking President Pence might not be so bad.

    That's how scary Trump is.
