Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton's town hall gets a little....let's say energized.

"Well what kind of insurance do you have?"

Damn! When I heard this last night I thought that Tom Cotton's face might have been scorched by this woman's anger and frustration.

And she was certainly not alone.

Courtesy of Arkansas Online:

U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., faced a loud and angry crowd of about 2,000 Wednesday at an auditorium in the usually safe conservative enclave of Springdale.

Often interrupted by shouts and boos, Cotton's longest and quietest exchange was with a young Springdale woman on the verge of losing her health insurance.

"Without that, I will die," said Kati McFarland of Springdale. Cotton said the GOP replacement plan will cover that. "With what?" McFarland demanded, seeking details.

Currently watching these town halls is the most entertaining thing going on cable news.

Watching them gives me real hope that the Republicans are going to have a VERY hard time repealing Obamacare, or getting other items on their agenda passed as well.

And if this energy continues I see the 2018 election cycle as potentially very bad news for the GOP's plans to hang onto the Senate, or even the House.

Gryphen, I share your optimism but winning back the Senate or House is a very long shot.

The gerrymandering and domination of elections and Governorships in the USA by the R's is a huge obstacle.

I know a lot could happen between now and elections in 2018, but even if Trump got impeached, we'd still have the Pence to deal with.

Resisting is good, and I am doing what I can. Bottom line is that we have a formidable enemy that wants a Christian fascist state, and they aren't giving up easily

Louis Gohmert Won't Hold Town Hall Because Look What Happened To Gabby Giffords!

It should surprise no one that the Stupidest Man in Congress would try to hide from his constituents by cowering behind a woman.

But even I was surprised that the woman Louis Gohmert (R-Deliverance) would try use as human shield would be Gabby Giffords. From The Hill:

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) on Thursday invoked the 2011 shooting of former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz.) at a constituent event as a reason not to hold a public town hall.

"At this time there are groups from the more violent strains of the leftist ideology, some even being paid, who are preying on public town halls to wreak havoc and threaten public safety," Gohmert said in a statement.

"Threats are nothing new to me and I have gotten my share as a felony judge. However, the House Sergeant at Arms advised us after former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was shot at a public appearance, that civilian attendees at Congressional public events stand the most chance of being harmed or killed—just as happened there."

You may remember, that less than a month ago, Louis Gohmert was so overcome with concern with guns and public safety that he a co-sponsored a bill to make it easier for mentally ill people to buy an arsenal.

Because like any other vermin infestation, when you let Republicans run wild. this is just what they're gonna do.

--The five Donald Trump – Russia scandal plotlines playing out behind closed doors

The biggest Trump-Russia blips you’ve heard are still playing out in private

Every few days yet another leak, revelation, or accusation surfaces in public in relation to the scandal between Donald Trump and Russia. Some of these leaks, despite being reliable and important nuggets of information, seem to fade right back into the ether. But that’s only because we don’t know how they’re being pursued behind closed doors. Here are the top five Trump-Russia plotlines that are still surely playing out in private, despite having only made a brief blip in the public eye.

    https://www.palmerreport.com/opinion/the-five-donald-trump-russia-scandal-plotlines-playing-out-behind-closed-doors/1640/

--Mike Pence is positioning himself for Donald Trump’s demise. But Pence can also be taken down.

Trump and Pence each have their own vulnerabilities and scandals

We may never know precisely when he made the conclusion. But over the past ten days, Mike Pence’s words and actions have made clear that he expects to become president before much longer. He’s used the Michael Flynn fiasco to try to insulate himself from the Russia scandal. He’s aligned himself with the one cabinet member whom everyone respects. He’s even running his own foreign policy. Pence no longer expects Donald Trump to last. But Pence can also be taken down.

Take a close look at Mike Pence’s actions since the day Flynn resigned. He’s publicly insisting that Flynn lied to him, and he’s publicly demanding to know which of Donald Trump’s advisers made the decision to keep Flynn’s lies from him. In so doing, he’s casting doubt on everyone who’s loyal to Trump, and likely by design. Pence also used his speech in Germany to unveil his own aggressive policy toward Russia, which stands in stark contrast to Trump’s Russian lovefest. And Pence appears to be aligning himself with the Secretary of Defense, General James Mattis, giving himself a key ally. All of these pieces fit together.

As I’ve previously pointed out, Pence isn’t even close to having the votes of enough cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump from office. But with the Russia scandal reaching the point this week that even the Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee are now aggressively moving forward with the investigation, Pence appears to believe he can just bide his time until Trump is either impeached or resigns. And Pence may be right. But that’s just the beginning of the battle.

Here’s what Mike Pence is hoping for: Donald Trump is ousted in disgrace over the Russia scandal. Pence then becomes president after having already publicly positioned himself as a victim in the Russia scandal, and having already established himself as holding anti-Russia views. Pence probably even asks Congress to approve General Mattis as his new vice president. And then as the nation breathes a sigh of relief that the Trump nightmare is over, and ceases caring about politics, Pence quietly moves forward with whatever politely-spoken extremist conservative agenda he wants. But that last part is a fantasy.

Mike Pence might well become president, and he might get Mattis as his VP. But what Pence isn’t counting on is that the public activism of 2017 isn’t merely a rebellion against Trump’s crazed behavior, or the illegitimacy of the election. It’s a wholesale rejection of the social conservatism that Pence stands for.

...So if Mike Pence wants to help nudge Donald Trump out of power so he can step into the White House instead, more power to him. He’ll be stepping into a political buzzsaw in the process.

Manafort faced blackmail attempt, hacks suggest

Stolen texts appear to show threats to expose relations between Russia-friendly forces, Trump and his former campaign chairman.

...The undated communications, which are allegedly from the iPhone of Manafort’s daughter, include a text that appears to come from a Ukrainian parliamentarian named Serhiy Leshchenko, seeking to reach her father, in which he claims to have politically damaging information about both Manafort and Trump.

Attached to the text is a note to Paul Manafort referring to “bulletproof” evidence related to Manafort’s financial arrangement with Ukraine’s former president, the pro-Russian strongman Viktor Yanukovych, as well as an alleged 2012 meeting between Trump and a close Yanukovych associate named Serhiy Tulub.

“Considering all the facts and evidence that are in my possession, and before possible decision whether to pass this to [the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine] or FBI I would like to get your opinion on this and maybe your way to work things out that will persuade me to do otherwise,” reads the note. It is signed “Sergii” — an alternative transliteration of Leshchenko’s given name — and it urges Manafort to respond to an email address that reporters have used to reach Leshchenko.

In the text to Manafort’s daughter to which the note was attached, the sender writes from a different address, “I need to get in touch with Paul i need to share some important information with him regarding ukraine investigation.” The sender adds “as soon as he comes back to me i will pass you documents,” but also warns: “if I don’t get any reply from you iam gonaa pass it on to the fbi and ukrainian authorities inducing media.”

Jackie Evancho, the sixteen year old former America’s Got Talent runner up, created controversy when she decided to perform for Donald Trump’s inauguration at a time when famous singers were turning him down left and right. Those who refused to perform cited everything from his racist views, to his status as a sexual predator, to his Russian treason, to his choice of an anti-LGBT extremist running mate. But now even Evancho is upset with Trump.

The singer launched a pair of tweets at Donald Trump today after his Justice Department moved sharply against the civil rights of transgender people. Evancho has a transgender sister, and even though her fan base tried to warn her last month that Trump’s administration would end up being fervently anti-LGBT, she now seems shocked at today’s development. OT
    trump's secret debt
"Among Donald Trump's debts—the source of some of his most intractable conflicts of interest—is a mystery loan that Trump has not publicly explained. And this means that the president could have a secret creditor to whom he owes tens of millions of dollars.

According to Trump's financial disclosure records and various news reports, Trump is carrying hundreds of millions of dollars in debt. These transactions could provide his creditors with leverage over the new commander-in-chief. Moreover, it would be difficult for Trump to refinance or modify the terms of his various loans without raising suspicion that he is receiving favorable treatment because of his position. (Imagine a bank gives him a good rate. Would this suggest it might receive preferential treatment from the US government Trump heads?) Because Trump has refused to release his tax returns, it's impossible for the public to know exactly how much he owes and to whom. And Trump never kept his campaign promise to reveal all his creditors and obligations.

The financial disclosure form he filed last year did note more than a dozen loans totaling at least $713 million. But the full amount could be more. And buried in the paperwork is a puzzling debt that ethics experts say could suggest that Trump has a major creditor he has not publicly identified."

Disaster For Republicans As Entire Crowd Stands Up When Asked If They Are Affected By ACA

The reason why Obamacare repeal has turned into a nightmare for Republicans was demonstrated at Sen. Tom Cotton's town hall when the entire crowd stood when a woman asked for anyone who was affected by the ACA or health care to stand.

...Republicans are discovering the real world limitation to arguing only that Obamacare is bad. The GOP has reached the real world now what stage of repeal and they are trapped.

People see ACA repeal for what it is. Affordable Care Act repeal is literally a life and death matter for tens of millions of Americans.

Republican Senator Torn To Shreds At Town Hall Over His Support For Betsy DeVos

Republicans are learning that they can't defend the indefensible.

At a boisterous and jam-packed town hall event on Wednesday, Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana faced a fuming crowd of constituents expressing outrage over the senator’s decision to support Betsy DeVos’ confirmation as education secretary.

It was clear that Cassidy wasn’t prepared to field questions on this topic because his reason for supporting the unqualified DeVos was stunningly bad.

The Louisiana senator said, “I asked Mrs. DeVos, ‘Will you enforce the law?’ ‘Absolutely’ … ‘Do you support public education?’ She goes ‘Absolutely.'”

The crowd’s response to Cassidy’s non-answer was simple: DeVos lied.

...During one moment of the proceedings, Cassidy made a shocking – though unsurprising – admission to the crowd that he wasn’t even present for the entirety of DeVos’ confirmation hearing.

Voters have repeatedly rejected the theocratic agenda of the Religious Right. Each of their candidates went down to resounding defeat in the 2016 elections. In the end, they placed their hopes on Donald Trump, even anointing him as their messiah.

And yet thanks to Trump’s rejection of judicial review as so forcefully expressed by Stephen Miller and by Trump himself, they may win in the end.

A new report by People for the American Way (PFAW), “Trump Attacks on Judiciary Could Be Religious Right’s Biggest Payoff,” warns that “Christian conservatives have long viewed federal courts as obstacles to their Christian-nation goals.”

The report’s author, Peter Montgomery, explains that,

“When Donald Trump sent White House adviser Stephen Miller onto the Sunday morning talk shows, Miller’s most chilling comments were his repeated attacks on the federal judiciary and his assertion that ‘the powers of the president to protect our country are very substantial and will not be questioned.’”

OMG it’s twitter tantrum time and time for another trump survey !!!
    ============================================

Trump's disapproval rating keeps creeping up

A majority of voters disapprove of Donald Trump’s handling of the presidency, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Less than five weeks into his presidency, Trump has an approval rating of 38 percent and a disapproval rating of 55 percent.

A majority of respondents said Trump is not honest (55 percent), doesn’t have good leadership skills (55 percent) or care about everyday Americans (53 percent), isn’t level-headed (63 percent), doesn’t share their values (60 percent) and is doing more to divide the country than unite it (58 percent). However, a majority also said they believe Trump is a strong and intelligent person (64 percent and 58 percent, respectively.

Half of respondents disapprove of the media’s coverage of Trump, but more than 6-in-10 disapprove of how the president responds. Sixty-one percent said they disapprove of the way Trump talks about the news media, which he tweeted last week is “the enemy of the American People!”

Despite Trump’s critical review of the press, which he repeatedly assails as “dishonest” and calls “fake news,” voters trust the media more than Trump. Fifty-two percent of respondents said they trust the media to tell the truth about important issues, while just 37 percent said the same about the president.

A whopping 40 percent, however, said they can hardly ever trust the president to do what’s right.

And while Trump gets warm marks on his handling of the economy, he faces high disapproval on foreign policy (56 percent), terrorism (49 percent), immigration (58 percent), Russia (57 percent), his currently blocked executive order travel ban — 53 percent oppose suspending travel from the seven predominantly Muslim nations and 60 percent oppose halting the entry of refugees (68 percent for Syrian refugees, specifically)
    .
“In all fairness,” Trump told reporters earlier Wednesday, “I’ve only been here for four weeks, so I can’t take too much of the blame for what’s happened.”

  19. Tom Cotton is a traitorous coward who was the ringleader and chief author of the letter to Iran's ayatollah during the Obama Administration. He is detestable, deplorable, and disgusting! So he was already on my reThug Radar. He & 48 other GOP backstabbers wrote to a foreign power in opposition to President Obama! Sinister, satanic, and seditious!

I am immeasurably uplifted to see the people in Red States (Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia) demanding that the GOP crooks and liars they consistently vote in office listen to their concerns. That's what we taxpayers pay them to do. When they disregard the wishes of the people, they need to be voted out of office!

There is nothing so wrong with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, or Obamacare (all programs implemented under Democratic presidents, oh my!) that they must all be discarded. Each needs tweaking, but not eradication (which is the trick these sorry @$$ reThuglicans are trying to do). Ryan & McConnell, at the behest of greedy pigs Koch Brothers, Sydney Adelson, Art Pope and the like, see the billions these programs have appropriated/generate & they are determined to channel those funds into someone's pocket! Shameful!

I myself am uninsurable, due to preexisting conditions. Except for Obamacare, medications and treatment would be unaffordable, most likely resulting in a serious decline in quality of life. As it is now, life is good. I would like the cost of my medications to be lower, but that is something I hope could be fixed.

No matter what, this battle is personal. It's not some war fought in a distant land. It's not another tank, ship, jet, or missile that may or may not work as designed. It's not an issue centered around some theoretical hard to understand idea. As hard as the housing crisis hit this country, this is not even about losing a house, and a house is definitely essential. This is real life-or-death. For many of us, if we don't have medical insurance, we will lose everything, our lives included.

They are going to quietly do nothing, because they are cowards and lazy. Just wait until the insurance lobby gets a hold of them.

They had 8 years to come up with a plan and they have nothing!!! So they are going to sit on Obamacare , wait until after mid-term elections and move on to something else.
