Chris Wallace to Reince Priebus: "Barack Obama whined about Fox News all the time, but I gotta say he never said we were an enemy of the people."

Courtesy of Raw Story:

The Fox News Sunday host, who earlier attacked Trump over referring to the media as “the enemy of the people,” went after Priebus early, at one time lecturing him, “You don’t get to tell us what to do any more than Barack Obama did. Barack Obama whined about Fox News all the time, but I gotta say, he never said we were an enemy of the people.”

Addressing a New York Times report that claimed that top Trump operatives were in contact with the Russians prior to the election, Priebus complained about the media using “anonymous sources,” before calling it “fake news.”

“I can assure you, and I’ve been to say this, that the top levels of the intelligence community have assured me that that that story is not only inaccurate, but it’s grossly overstated and it’s wrong and there’s nothing to it,” Priebus asserted. “If I can say that to the American people, then what does it say about the story?”

“I get the fact that you don’t like some stories,” Wallace replied. “You say, because you weren’t part of the campaign before so that you can’t speak to that, you say that the intelligence community says that there were no contacts between anyone in the Trump campaign, no associates of Mr. Trump and anybody involved as a Russian agent, as to the campaign and collusion in the campaign.”

“They made it very clear that that story in the New York Times is complete garbage,” Priebus replied. “Quite frankly they used different words than that, okay?”

To his credit Wallace pointed that Priebus, who had just complained about "anonymous sources," just did the same exact thing to argue that those news stories were incorrect.

It is interesting that Reince "once and " Priebus planted this flag so firmly in this absolute certainty that the intelligence agencies are not going to reveal that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Especially since these investigations are ongoing, and nowhere near completion yet.

That is unless Priebus knows the fix is in and that with Trump's new people in place there is simply no way that anything untoward will be revealed.

Things that make you go "Hmmm."

On the campaign trail, you can say the most outrageous things — as Donald Trump established, you can even tell daily lies — and get lots of attention, and never be pushed too hard on “Just how would you go about doing that [insert dumb idea] in power …?”

You drive the establishment candidates wild with the double standard that they must answer serious policy questions, and you don’t. The crowds grow more adoring with every swipe at the conventional politicians and their “responsible” politics. The price is, of course, no one takes you seriously as a contender. What’s the worst thing that could happen?

    You could win.

Then, yikes, reporters haul out those early campaign promises to lock up Wall St. executives, provide nukes to Japan, quit NATO, crush Iran, build a wall, create millions of jobs and balance the budget “Really. How exactly?”

Of course, you don’t have a clue. This is the shambolic Trump administration’s fate. Never expecting to win, until it was too late to stop being outrageous, they are now the victims of the expectations they fanned, and never had any intention of having to meet. Having rejected all the experienced GOP bench as senior staff and agency heads, their collection of amateurs and third-tier players, came stumbling and colliding out of the gate. Gen. Flynn’s three-week career is only the beginning of the pratfalls to come from this crew.

"A week before Michael T. Flynn resigned as national security adviser, a sealed proposal was hand-delivered to his office, outlining a way for President Trump to lift sanctions against Russia.

Mr. Flynn is gone, having been caught lying about his own discussion of sanctions with the Russian ambassador. But the proposal, a peace plan for Ukraine and Russia, remains, along with those pushing it: Michael D. Cohen, the president’s personal lawyer, who delivered the document; Felix H. Sater, a business associate who helped Mr. Trump scout deals in Russia; and a Ukrainian lawmaker trying to rise in a political opposition movement shaped in part by Mr. Trump’s former campaign manager Paul D. Manafort".........read on

I suspect at some point Trump will will even turn against Fox News. They are slowly beginning to stand up to Drumpf, e.g. Shepard Smith, Chris Wallace.

Secondly, it looks to me as though Drumpf has gained weight since he took office. I certainly hope that he has and that he continues to do so. The more overweight he becomes, the sooner he will drop dead in office. Yeah, we'll get Pence, but he's basically co-President along with Bannon. So the quicker we are rid of Drumpf, the better off our country and the world is.

Swedish paper mocks Trump: A moose fell in love on Friday, weather closed roads but no terror attack

Trump has been mocked by Internet users and even the Swedish embassy in Washington for pointing to “what’s happening last night in Sweden” during his rally in Melbourne, Florida on Saturday as an example of what happens in countries that allow Muslim refugees to settle within their borders.

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet responded to Pres. Donald Trump’s assertion that a terrorist attack took place in Sweden on Friday night with bewilderment, but went on to offer Mr. Trump a helpful list of “everything that happened last night in Sweden,” according to The Independent...

...Trump later admitted on Twitter he’d gotten confused and thought that a segment on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show was actually a report about a terrorist attack.

Leaks, grudges and ‘tremendous uncertainty’ have slowed Trump admin’s hiring to a crawl: report

...The New York Times reported Sunday night that the administration’s inability to let go of grudges it has carried since the 2016 campaign means that many qualified applicants get rejected out of hand while others are wary of signing on with a chaotic and unstable administration that could potentially tarnish their careers forever.

Meanwhile, the Times said, many of the officials who have been hired feel like they’re “home alone” without deputies and subordinates with whom to begin the work of governing.

Early on, the Trump organization reached out to longtime Republican operative Elliott Abrams for help selecting nominees for cabinet posts and other appointments. Abrams reportedly brought long lists of nominees only to have the president and his staff veto them because they had said something critical of Trump in the past.

"...Mr. Trump remains fixated on the campaign as he applies a loyalty test to some prospective officials. For their part, many Republicans reacted to what happened to Mr. Abrams with dismay, leaving them increasingly leery about joining an administration that cannot get past the past,” said the Times.

    http://www.rawstory.com/2017/02/leaks-grudges-and-tremendous-uncertainty-have-slowed-trump-admins-hiring-to-a-crawl-report/

Trump, an Outsider Demanding Loyalty, Struggles to Fill Top Posts

...One by one, the answer from the Trump team came back no. The reason was consistent: This one had said disparaging things about Mr. Trump during the campaign; that one had signed a letter opposing him. Finally, the White House asked Mr. Abrams himself to meet with the president about becoming deputy secretary of state, only to have the same thing happen — vetoed because of past criticism.

Mr. Abrams’s experience has become a case study in the challenges Mr. Trump still faces in filling top positions a month into his presidency. Mr. Trump remains fixated on the campaign as he applies a loyalty test to some prospective officials. For their part, many Republicans reacted to what happened to Mr. Abrams with dismay, leaving them increasingly leery about joining an administration that cannot get past the past.

...That does not even begin to cover the rest of the more than 4,000 appointments that a president typically makes. In some cases, the Trump administration is even going in reverse. A senior political appointee at the housing department, who had already started the job, was fired this past week and marched out of the building when someone discovered his previous statements critical of Mr. Trump.

    http://mwr.gtm.nytimes.com/2017/02/18/us/politics/trump-candidates-top-posts.html

    Comments:

--And here, Trump, yet again comes up short against President Obama. Trump wants personal allegiance and a history of unwavering support in his appointments. President Obama placed two former competitors, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, as VP and Secretary of State, respectively.
President Obama, unlike Trump, was big enough to understand that an administration is about serving the country, not stroking his ego.

--Wow, its tough isn't it? If you want to work for the Trump administration you might be asked to do immoral, if not illegal things, or look the other way when they happen. The Administration has to make darn sure you'll be loyal.

On the plus side, if like Flynn you lie to the FBI, you can count on Trump to tell Sessions not to prosecute you. And apparently Americans are too distracted to scream about it.

--Today's Nuremberg-style rally, the attack on the "enemy" press, the effortlessly lying staff, and the bizarre press conference speak to a type of leadership that should concern every American.

Trump "Considering" Intriguing New Way to Lie With Statistics

The Trump administration is considering changing the way it calculates U.S. trade deficits, a shift that would make the country’s trade gap appear larger than it had in past years, according to people involved in the discussions.

The leading idea under consideration would exclude from U.S. exports any goods first imported into the country, such as cars, and then transferred to a third country like Canada or Mexico unchanged, these people told The Wall Street Journal.

Economists say that approach would inflate trade deficit numbers because it would typically count goods as imports when they come into the country but not count the same goods when they go back out, known as re-exports.

While we're at it, let's change our new jobs report to show all the people who have gained a job but not the ones who have lost a job. That should make the economy look great, just like Trump wants it.

--Russian mafia figure Felix Sater now appears to be blackmailing Donald Trump on Putin’s behalf

    Trump-Russia rabbit hole grows deeper

In a bizarre new twist to the deepening Trump-Russia scandal, it appears Vladimir Putin is now using a Russian mafia figure – who once stabbed a man in the face – to blackmail Donald Trump into ousting the president of the Ukraine so his replacement can surrender Crimea to Russia. That’s the upshot of a new revelation which also involves Trump’s previously Russia-implicated implicated attorney Michael Cohen, and naturally, the recently exposed Russian operative Michael Flynn.

Just before Michael Flynn resigned as Trump’s National Security Adviser last week, Donald Trump’s longtime attorney Michael Cohen hand delivered a written policy proposal to Flynn’s office. It proposed that Trump use Russian blackmail material in order to take down current Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko. The policy seems to have come at the behest of the Kremlin, and only benefits Russia while accomplishing nothing for the United States – suggesting that Russia is now exploiting the control over Trump. The policy was crafted in part by Andrii Artemenko – the Ukrainian politician who appears to be a Kremlin puppet, as he wants to become the next Ukrainian president and promptly cede Crimea to Russia. But the policy was also crafted in part by Felix Sater, a Russian who has previously done business with Trump and whose criminal history is stunning.

    https://www.palmerreport.com/politics/russian-mafia-figure-felix-sater-donald-trump-putin/1607/

--Russia used Michael Flynn to deliver plan for Donald Trump to blackmail the Ukrainian president

Tangible evidence Russia is trying to get Trump to do its bidding

And this proposal delivered by Cohen to Flynn, which would have been a gift to Russia while not helping the United States at all, appears to have come from Russia itself. The proposal passed through the hands of Russian businessman Felix Sater, who has done financial business with Donald Trump in the past, and Andrii Artemenko, a Ukrainian politician whose positions suggest he’s under the thumb of the Kremlin. Meanwhile Michael Cohen, who delivered the proposal to Flynn, is the same Michael Cohen who was previously accused by the MI6 Russia dossier of having met with with Russian representatives in Prague before the election to work out the terms of Russia’s supposed blackmail of Trump (Cohen denies this).

Michael Flynn resigned to due to his role in the Russia scandal being exposed, shortly after Cohen brought him the Russia-Ukraine proposal, as detailed by the New York Times in this intricate expose.

--Donald Trump attorney, accused of negotiating Russian blackmail, was colluding with Michael Flynn

    What fresh hell is this?

This new revelation requires some prior context. Shortly before inauguration day, a Trump-Russia dossier assembled by a former MI6 agent was leaked publicly. That dossier consisted of thirty-five pages of accusations and assertions – not all of them provable – about how Russia rigged the election for Donald Trump, and how Trump was supposedly in on it. One of those claims was that Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen traveled to Prague before the election to meet with Russian government representatives, in order to negotiate the terms of the “pee pee tape” blackmail material Russia was holding on Trump.

Cohen has firmly denied this claim, and it never has been proven. But it’s notable that his name is once again being connected to the Trump-Russia story, and this time in a way that is verifiable. One week before Michael Flynn unexpectedly resigned, Cohen hand delivered a proposal to Flynn’s office which laid out how Donald Trump should go about lifting sanctions on Russia. In other words, as the New York Times is reporting, Cohen was trying to collude with Flynn to convince Trump to soften American policy toward Russia.

It was announced over the weekend that media provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos would be headlining the American Conservative Union’s CPAC — Conservative Political Action Conference. The announcement was controversial.

Things would take a turn on Sunday morning when an unflattering video of Yiannopoulos went viral.

...Many, after viewing the video, are suggesting that Yiannopoulos is defending pedophilia. In the video, he says:

In the homosexual world, particularly, some of those relationships between younger boys and older men — the sort of ‘coming of age’ relationship — those relationships in which those older men help those young boys discover who they are and give them security and safety and provide them with love and a reliable, sort of rock, where they can’t speak to their parents.

An off-screen voice (possibly that of an interviewer) is heard commenting, “It sounds like molestation to me. It sounds like Catholic priest molestation to me.” Yiannopoulos is quick to reply, “But you know what? I’m grateful for Father Michael. I wouldn’t give nearly such good head if it wasn’t for him.”

Things would take a turn on Sunday morning when an unflattering video of Yiannopoulos went viral. Conservative media group The Reagan Battalion was the first to post video to their Twitter page. The conservative group would also take the opportunity to take a shot at the American Conservative Union.

Many, after viewing the video, are suggesting that Yiannopoulos is defending pedophilia. In the video, he says:

Later Sunday afternoon, Yiannopoulos took to Facebook to voice his disdain for the video making the rounds on social media as well as to defend himself.

Six hours after that post, Yiannopoulos would take to Facebook, again, in an effort to clarify and defend himself further.

Deeply unamused by all of this is CNN anchor Jake Tapper, who took to Twitter after being reached out to by a concerned friend, who also allegedly happened to be a victim of sexual abuse as a child.

Trump’s Trade Policies Are Already Hurting Texas Ranchers

...The online version of the Dallas Morning News reports that cattle ranchers in the Lone Star state are facing a devastating downward “slide in cattle futures,” loss of a “long-sought after” access to the Japanese markets, and crippling requirements of increased “collateral for loans for ranchers.” All because of Donald Trump’s “blustering, blundering” trade policy and the mere threat of a trade war with Mexico and canceling the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

First, cattle ranchers across America were anticipating an opening for their product placement in the highly lucrative Japanese market courtesy of the TPP. That market loss is going to be taken up, with heightened enthusiasm, by Australian cattle ranchers. What is curious indeed is that ending the Trans-Pacific Partnership before it was implemented was very popular among Trump’s supporters, but it was “not a popular policy with the nation’s cattle ranchers” who were also Trump supporters.

Those cattle ranchers, in Texas and across several states, have spent the past several years building up their herds in anticipation of shipping their superior beef products to Japan as tariffs under the TPP were set to fall from 38.5 percent to a little over 9 percent. Now that Trump scuttled the TPP, that lucrative opportunity vanished along with reasonable interest rates for cattle ranchers and the futures market that devalued the price of American beef. All that damage is the result of Trump’s first 20 days in office.

It is a sad fact of life, but red-state Texas ranchers are not alone in suffering Trump’s boneheaded trade policies. It is going to affect:

“Beef producers from Nebraska to the Dakotas, grain farmers in Kansas, corn fields of Iowa, tomato farmers in California and Florida, autoworkers in Michigan, longshoremen at ports along the East, West, and Gulf Coasts, truckers and railway workers in Miami and Houston and Long Beach.”

Although those industries and states will be the first to feel the effects of an ignoramus setting trade policies, they are only the first casualties of Trump’s trade policy and war. The downstream effects will touch every American not only in job losses, but in the cost of living hikes as a result of higher prices and supply shortages when America’s trading partners take their business elsewhere. It will also have an adverse effect on the international community and that is not just this author’s opinion.

He gave all the evidence necessary to convict him of treason and espionage. He is a worthless pos that con coxed a binder of crimes against Americans. Him and his staff are guilty, reckless along with disgusting. Call your senators and representatives and DEMAND immediately resignation of this mess.

"House Judiciary Chair Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) announced today that the impeachment proceeding against President Hillary Clinton would proceed directly to a vote of the full House.

“We know everything we need to know,” said Goodlatte. “This woman belongs in prison, or worse, for the high crime of treason.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan added, “We knew Hillary Clinton was incompetent and we knew she was corrupt. But trading favors with Vladimir Putin to throw the election, and to enrich the Clinton business interests, is a new low, even for the Clintons.”

“I don’t want to pre-judge this, since the Senate still needs to vote to convict,” added Senate leader Mitch McConnell, “but her behavior makes Benedict Arnold look like a patriot.”"

    *IF* she had won.

Instead we get their double standard hypocrisy.

"A curious question for this Republic is whether it’s better or worse that our would-be dictator is so thoroughly incompetent and disorganized. You might say that a more competent demagogue would do even more damage. By now, he would have a fully staffed administration in place. There would be less chaos, less infighting, and a more consistent game plan.

At the same time, Trump’s very weirdness makes him that much more dangerous. Trump’s approval ratings keep dropping, but it’s a long way to 2018. The question is which pays the price first – the Republicans or the Republic."

More competent demagogue? That would be Mike Pence.

I think it is totally ironic that Trump is blaming his fake news story about an "attack" in Sweden Friday night on something he saw on "Faux News." Many of us for years have thought that Fox News was full of lies. And now the man who complains about fake news coming from legitimate news outlets admits that he gets, and mangles, his very own "fake news" from "Faux News" itself. if it weren't the ominous intentions of the Trump administration it would really be funny.
