House Republicans have become terrified of their own town halls.

Courtesy of Politico:

House Republicans during a closed-door meeting Tuesday discussed how to protect themselves and their staffs from protesters storming town halls and offices in opposition to repealing Obamacare, sources in the room told Politico.

House GOP Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers invited Rep. David Reichert, a former county sheriff, to present lawmakers with protective measures they should have in place. Among the suggestions: having a physical exit strategy at town halls, or a backdoor in congressional offices to slip out of, in case demonstrations turn violent; having local police monitor town halls; replacing any glass office-door entrances with heavy doors and deadbolts; and setting up intercoms to ensure those entering congressional offices are there for appointments, not to cause chaos.

“The message was: One, be careful for security purposes. Watch your back. And two, be receptive. Honor the First Amendment, engage, be friendly, be nice,” said Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker (R-N.C.). “Because it is toxic out there right now. Even some of the guys who have been around here a lot longer than I have, have never seen it to this level.”

He later added: “For those of us who have children in grade school and that kind of thing, there’s a factor in all of this, saying: How far will the progressive movement go to try to intimidate us?”

The conference discussion comes as Democratic activists around the nation ramp up protests against Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare. Protesters have disrupted town halls and other public events, jeering and yelling at Republicans just as conservatives did to Democrats when they were writing the law eight years ago. Conservative protesters in 2009 and 2010 were accused of spitting on and hurling racial epithets at Democratic lawmakers ahead of their votes to pass Obamacare. Republicans denied the accusations at the time.

Yeah like the article says Democrats have already been through all of this in 2009 and 2010.

And now it is time for the Republicans to learn the meaning of "What goes around, comes around."

The one part of the article that really  bothered me was this chairman suggesting that the children of these Representatives might be endangered or that there was a fear of violence concerning the passion coming from the Left.

We, all of us who attend these town halls, must take great pains in making sure that our justifiable anger and frustration does not present itself, or seem to present itself, as violent in nature or as anything that should be feared.

Yes we can be loud,

Yes we can be insistent.

Yes we can demand answers to questions from our Representatives in Congress.

But no we cannot threaten or harm these people, or their families, in order to further our agenda.

After all we are liberals, and liberals use facts to bludgeon our opponents into submission.

Let's just make sure we have plenty of facts in our arsenal.

These so-called "representatives" really should be required to visit their home turf every couple of months, to meet with their constituents. That way, they would be aware of how REAL people feel about their actions. As it is, they are insulated in DC, being brain washed by people like Mcconnell, Ryan and other right wingers. People voted them into office, we can vote them OUT. So, they have young kids. So do many of their constituents, who worry about losing health insurance plus many other hard fought for "rights" These self important politicians get too many perks paid for by the citizens. Where in a private sector does a comany pay for cadillac health insurance, plus a PENSION with full benefits after 4 years? THESE are the laws that should be taken back. Let them put in their time workng hard like the rest of us d.

Our new Congressman, Jack Bergman, refused to meet with his opponent repeatedly during the campaign in what, to me, was extreme cowardice so I doubt very much that he will be willing to meet with constituents any time soon. He is all about eliminating the ACA, Medicare and Social Security. He doesn't believe in bureaucracy or in handouts. Oh, by the way, he's a retired Marine general (not sure of his specific rank) so his own generous benefits are locked in tightly and paid for - by we, the people.

    1. Hi Beaglemom, Bergman promised a followup to his form email reply to me, but he was too gutless. I guess he didn't like me telling him he was not fit to call himself a Marine, having sworn to defend the US, and instead doing his best to kill US citizens by taking away their healthcare, Medicare, and Social Security. He's a mister, not a general, in my book.

Shouldn't he be able to explain how right he is and educate me if I am wrong?

I ABSOLUTELY think they should have fear of us. NOT for the safety of themselves or their families but for the things that they really care about - their jobs and their money.
ONE problem though, we may not be violent BUT those we oppose lean on violence to try to get their way. How long before the stormtroops from herr dumpster are coming for us? Look at the appalling tactics from the amped up militarized forces in Standing Rock as an example of what is coming. We will NEED leaders in the vein of MLK and John Lewis. No dangling teabag tri-corner hats for us - just the facts, loud and proud.

Isn’t that an interesting remark! Not, maybe we should listen to our constituents, maybe we are lying and nothing is wrong with obamacare, maybe we are suppose to be working for our constituents not OUR interests. Maybe these aren’t all progressives either.

It never occurs to them that everyone LIKES obamacare, are angry that they want to repeal it while not offering any viable alternative and are worried we are going to be left hanging with some stupid plan that favors the insurance companies.

NO, they are hell bent on repealing it because they hate President Obama.

Senate confirms Obamacare opponent Price to lead health department

Price’s confirmation came by a slim 52-47 margin

    No Democrats voted for him.

“I feel passionately about the fact that this is the wrong person to serve in that job,” Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) said during a Thursday floor speech. “He seems to have no higher priority than to terminate health coverage for millions of people across this country.”

....... using his administrative powers to ease Obamacare’s regulations and smooth the path for congressional Republicans to repeal and ultimately replace the law. That will likely start with relaxing rules for insurers, in hopes of soothing the industry’s nerves over participating in Obamacare’s insurance markets in the short term.....

Pence is guilty, knew Flynn contacted russians during campaign!!!
    ==================

General Flynn Reportedly Spoke To Russia About Obama's Sanctions After All

You may recall the vehement (and questionable) denials that came out of Mike Pence's mouth about how those phone calls made by General Mike Flynn to the Russian embassy did not concern the sanctions then-President Obama had put on Russia as punishment for their interference in our elections.

At the time, they sounded rather hollow and bizarre.

"I talked to General Flynn yesterday, and the conversations that took place at that time were not in any way related to the new U.S. sanctions against Russia or the expulsion of diplomats," Pence insisted.

Well, it turns out they are hollow and bizarre. The Washington Post reports that Flynn did have conversations about the sanctions.

According to the report, "Flynn’s communications with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak were interpreted by some senior U.S. officials as an inappropriate and potentially illegal signal to the Kremlin that it could expect a reprieve from sanctions that were being imposed by the Obama administration in late December to punish Russia for its alleged interference in the 2016 election."

Oops. That is a direct contradiction right there. This story relies upon nine sources inside the government. That's not exactly shaky ground, and here's what they say

“They did not discuss anything having to do with the United States’ decision to expel diplomats or impose censure against Russia,” Pence said in an interview with CBS News last month, noting that he had spoken with Flynn about the matter. Pence also made a more sweeping assertion, saying there had been no contact between members of Trump’s team and Russia during the campaign. To suggest otherwise, he said, “is to give credence to some of these bizarre rumors that have swirled around the candidacy.

Neither of those assertions is consistent with the fuller account of Flynn’s contacts with Kislyak provided by officials who had access to reports from U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies that routinely monitor the communications of Russian diplomats.

Nine current and former officials, who were in senior positions at multiple agencies at the time of the calls, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.
All of those officials said Flynn’s references to the election-related sanctions were explicit. Two of those officials went further, saying that Flynn urged Russia not to overreact to the penalties being imposed by President Barack Obama, making clear that the two sides would be in position to review the matter after Trump was sworn in as president.

“Kislyak was left with the impression that the sanctions would be revisited at a later time,” said a former official.

Someone -- or nine someones -- inside the intelligence community is/are throwing Gen. Flynn under the bus, and it's just a matter of time before Mike Pence backs it up over him.

The Deplorables may talk about staying peaceful, but what they say in the privacy of their own homes is brought to the school playground by their children who now feel they have carte blanche to grab little girls, taunt and tease anyone with skin darker than theirs and even commit physical violence where they think they can get away with it. Oh, and let's not forget vandalism.
