In the wake of Trump's vow to repeal Obamacare, California flirts with single payer system.

Courtesy of LA Times:

With President Trump now vowing to put forward a replacement for the Affordable Care Act in March, some California politicians and healthcare advocates are once again promoting the idea of a state-run “single-payer” system that operates like Medicare.

Backers say the uncertainty surrounding Trump’s promise to repeal Obamacare presents California with a chance to rethink how healthcare is delivered to its 39 million residents.

“Why wouldn’t we take this as an opportunity to create what we want in California?” Dr. Mitch Katz, head of L.A. County’s health department, said at a conference in December. He mentioned a single-payer system as a possible solution.

Other suggestions for how California can capitalize on the threat to Obamacare include creating a public option, a state-run health plan to sell on the state’s insurance exchange, and mimicking how Massachusetts provided universal healthcare.

And it is not as if California does not have reason for concern.
Courtesy of Vox:

Republican replacement plans for Obamacare would lead to significant declines in the number of Americans with health insurance coverage, according to an analysis presented Saturday at the National Governors Association and obtained by Vox.The analysis includes graphs on what the Republican plan to overhaul Obamacare’s tax credits, generally making them less generous, would do. They are based on the recent 19-page proposal that Republican leadership released about their plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.

The report estimates what would happen in a hypothetical state with 300,000 people in the individual market that has also expanded Medicaid. In the individual market, enrollment would fall 30 percent and 90,000 people would become uninsured.

California has almost 39 million people, that means multiple millions would potentially lose their coverage.

By the way yesterday Trump said that "Nobody knew that health care could be so complicated."
Actually EVERYBODY knew. Except Donald Trump apparently.

And if he listened to those who knew this (The Democrats.) he might understand that the best thing he could do would be to leave the Affordable Care Act in place and work to improve it.

Socialize healthcare. American Healthcare System. Eliminate insurance and issue the American healthcare card. With this card and photo you are covered. All usa citizens are covered from birth to death. We eliminate the middle man. We own all healthcare facilities, research, pharma and genetic test everyone. From there we develop and produce the highest quality, cost saving, advanced treatment and cures on earth. Bingo we have control of cost disease and outcomes. It is not about private for profit, it is about saving America from disease and unnecessary suffering. Take money out of healthcare, education, prisons, war and elections. Watch the transformation of a humane civilized healthy society.

It is the "American Healthcare System Photo ID Card" that is needed and issued for citizenship status, healthcare, social security retirement and education. With this card you will receive healthcare from birth to death, A public education and what social security benefit that you have worked for in your lifetime. You will begin to receive your usa ss ck at age 60. A flat income tax of 10% from EVERYONE to cover all usa socialized benefits. Take the profits out of healthcare. And put it into cures, research and outcomes. A healthier USA. Ultramanure profits should come from luxury businesses/corporations and hospitality. NOT from health, utilities, food, energy or necessaries.

A flat income tax of 10%.

How much would Bill Gates have to pay compared to the rest of us?

I'm not sure a flat tax of 10% would cover all the expenses, but I agree with the concept of flat taxation.

First, however, we need to change the definition of INCOME. Right now there are far too many. There's regular income which all normal workers pay (also known as earner income). There's corporate and business taxation which all business are SUPPOSED to pay (but many don't). There's UNEARNED income. The number of definitions is staggering - and confusing. Define income as any monies brought into one's "wallet" and the tax laws would be drastically simplified.

Make a large HONEST, non-political study of what would be fair deductions (cost of living, cost of dependents, college costs for children, actual provable charitable donations, medical costs, etc.) for ALL, regardless of the amount of income a person(s) has and tax at a reasonable level for EVERYONE. For businesses, PROVABLE business expenses could be deducted.

And to reduce the cost of the tax SYSTEM, change the dates the taxes are due. If the population was split into twelve approximately equal groups then each group would be due in a different month. That and a newer efficient computer system would go a long way toward equalizing the population's taxation.

And before any trolls jump in, TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS DOES NOT WORK! The argument that the rich would invest more if their taxes were lower is
BS! Anyone with that kind of money is going to invest. PERIOD. That's the only way they can get more. Or at least, the fastest.

Warren Buffet is right. There is no good reason his secretary should pay a higher rate than he does. Unless you count greed, which I am sure Humpty Trumpty does.

And Bill Gates would pay the same RATE as the rest of us.

That's just ONE set of ideas, BTW. I'm sure there would be others.

Dmitry Rybolovlev, who keeps flying in to meet Donald Trump, owns Russian money laundering bank

Over the past weeks, Palmer Report has been reporting on the mysterious round-the-world gallivanting of Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, who spends most of his time at his home in Monaco but has a habit of flying into whatever city Donald Trump happens to be visiting at the time. And thanks to an exposed multibillion dollar money laundering scheme on the part of a bank that’s closely tied financially to both Rybolovlev and Trump, we think we know why.

As we’ve been documenting this month, whenever Donald Trump has left the White House and ventured anywhere, Dmitry Rybolovlev (aka the “Russian King of Fertilizer”) has tended to show up in the same city. It happened during Trump’s victory tour in Concord, North Carolina, a place Rybolovlev had no legitimate reason to be. It happened again when Trump vacationed in West Palm Beach, even though that required Rybolovlev to fly all the way in from Switzerland. That was also the time that Trump deposited reporters in a semi-submerged basement of his resort with black plastic covering the the windows.

That only leaves two possibilities. One is that Trump and Rybolovlev just happen to have a remarkably coincidental travel schedule, and that while Rybolovlev was in West Palm Beach, Trump went out of his way to make sure the press couldn’t see what was going on at his resort for no real reason. The other is that Trump and Rybolovlev have been meeting up whenever Trump ventures away from the White House. The latter possibility has long been bolstered by the fact that Trump sold Rybolovlev a mansion a few years ago that neither of them lived in nor cared about, suggesting the sale was mere cover for shifting money from Russia to Trump. And that theory just got bolstered significantly, thanks to a new breakthrough.

...It turns out Deutsche was funneling that money through Bank of Cyprus. Guess who owns a 9.9% share in Bank of Cyprus? Dmitry Rybolovlev. So we can now draw a direct line of more than a billion dollars flowing from Russia, through Rybolovlev, to Donald Trump.

Rachel Maddow Connects How the 'Kremlin Clan' Came to Be

...The most galling is that the new commerce secretary Wilbur Ross is at the nexus between Trump and a Russian oligarch trying to avoid paying out a $4.5 billion divorce settlement. The report even includes the 35-page dossier about Trump’s 2013 trip to Russia and blackmail concerns.

Above all, the video clips raise questions about how this “Kremlin clan” got to be part of Trump’s inner circle. Trump has insisted he had never met Manafort, for example, until he became his campaign adviser. It’s interesting to note how many of this inner circle he claims he had never met before …. dementia? A lie? A cover-up? Just how “business is done?”

  5. Health care, like education, is incredibly complicated because each person has individualized needs. One size can only fit ALL when every person's needs are met. Unfortunately, the GOP only see dollar signs, gargantuan profits, and untold riches for them and their corporate masters. We can and must do better, by demanding that Obamacare cannot be repealed without a replacement, and that the only acceptable replacement is single payer.

Paul Ryan: 'We are hosed' if we don't tackle entitlements like Medicare. Someone needs to tell this POS Ryan that Medicare and Social Security are NOT entitlements _ we have paid into both for our ENTIRE working lives. An entitlement is Ryan's healthcare which he has and won't ever pay a nickel.

  13. Trump has made a lot of promises about healthcare.

The only thing he can replace the ACA with and still keep every promise he made is to make it universal single payer. Anything less breaks one or more of those promises he made.
