John Oliver comes up with perfect way to troll, and educate, Donald Trump.

Courtesy of NBC News:

Comedian John Oliver's politically-charged HBO series "Last Week Tonight" returned to the airwaves for the first time this year on Sunday night — and the show seems to have discovered a creative new way to troll President Donald Trump.

On the show, Oliver highlighted just how much the president appears to absorb and parrot information he gets from early morning cable news broadcasts, and other, even less reliable sources.

So Oliver and his staff came up with a potential way to capture the president's attention (since, the host conceded, Trump doesn't watch "Last Week Tonight," which has been on hiatus since the Sunday after the election).

They bought ads, in the style and tone of medical catheter commercials which frequently air on networks like Fox News, meant to "educate" the president on crucial issues like the nuclear triad.

"And that little fellow there is what we call the clitoris."

Damn did I miss this show!

And this idea of the ads is perfect, because not only do we KNOW for a fact that Trump will see them, but he might actually learn something which might help to keep us all safe.

Educate Trump? I don't think it is possible. He is like a RW troll, unable to discern reality but big on conspiracy theories and other alt-reality nonsense. He reflects his base. Cretins.

THE THREAT DRUMPF NEVER SAW COMING
As the Democratic Party remains mired in its own existential crisis, the resistance to Donald Drumpf is being led, in part, by an unlikely group of attorneys general—starting with Maura Healey.

The morning after Donald Drumpf was sworn in on the Capitol steps, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey looked out over a massive crowd of her own. Some 175,000 demonstrators had gathered on the Boston Common to protest the new president, and Healey—flanked by Massachusetts senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey—was prepared to stir their fervor. She vowed to fight the administration on topics ranging from women’s issues to corporate interests, and declared an unequivocal warning to the famously litigious new president. “The message from the people of Massachusetts is: We’ll see you in court,” Healey said.

The Democratic prosecutor got the fight she was looking for faster than she could have possibly fathomed. On January 31, Healey joined attorneys general from three other states to sue the U.S. government after the Drumpf administration closed America’s borders to refugees and non-U.S. citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries.

    White House Knew

The Washington Post article published less than an hour ago is devastating, and much less for Michael Flynn than his boss, President Trump. The post I published below suggested that the most obvious explanation of the progression of the Flynn story is that President Trump knew about the Flynn/Russia back channel all along.

Now we have a big new piece of the puzzle. On Monday January 30th, President Trump fired Acting Attorney General Sally Yates for refusing to enforce his immigration executive order. Only days earlier, Yates and what the Post describes as a "senior career national security official" told White House Counsel Donald McGahn that Michael Flynn has lied about his communications with the Russian Ambassador and that he was potentially vulnerable to Russian blackmail.

It's not clear what if anything the White House did with that information. A story published by Politico minutes before the Post story says the White House is acting searching for Flynn's replacement.

What the Post article also reveals is that Flynn's deception became a topic of active concern in the final days of the Obama administration. What they knew was that Flynn's public claims about his contacts with the Russian Ambassador were false and suspected that he had misled at least incoming Vice President Pence. Yates, CIA Director John Brennan and DNI James Clapper discussed the matter repeatedly. They recommended briefing the new President so he could decide himself how to deal with the situation. But this: "FBI Director James B. Comey initially opposed notification, citing concerns that it could complicate the agency’s investigation."

Just how much info has Flynn been passing on the the russians?
    ======================================

Report: Acting AG Sally Yates Warned Trump Administration About Flynn (UPDATED)
Why did Donald Trump fire Acting Attorney General Sally Yates? Was it because of her refusal to defend his indefensible executive order, or was it because she warned Trump and his senior staff that General Michael Flynn could be vulnerable to Russian blackmail?

The Washington Post's bombshell report tonight brings back Sally Yates again, this time warning the Trump White House that Michael Flynn could be compromised as a consequence of his conversations with Russian officials.

The acting attorney general informed the Trump White House late last month that she believed Michael Flynn had misled senior administration officials about the nature of his communications with the Russian ambassador to the United States, and warned that the national security adviser was potentially vulnerable to Russian blackmail, current and former U.S. officials said.

The message, delivered by Sally Q. Yates and a senior career national security official to the White House counsel, was prompted by concerns that Flynn, when asked about his calls and texts with the Russian diplomat, had told Vice President-elect Mike Pence and others that he had not discussed the Obama administration sanctions on Russia for its interference in the 2016 election, the officials said. It is unclear what the White House counsel, Donald McGahn, did with the information.

So Yates warned this White House that Flynn was vulnerable and likely compromised, and in the process of issuing that warning made it pretty clear they knew Flynn had, in fact, discussed the sanctions imposed by the Obama administration on Russia.

According the sources talking to the Washington Post, James Clapper and John Brennan were both concerned enough about the possibility of compromise that they asked Yates to inform the Trump White House. In other words, these concerns did not come from low-level spies, but instead emanated from the highest levels of the U.S. intelligence community.

And just to further drop your jaw, there's more.

The current and former officials said that although they believed that Pence was misled about the contents of Flynn’s communications with the Russian ambassador, they couldn’t rule out that Flynn was acting with the knowledge of others in the transition.

    Including, perhaps, Trump himself.

Yates was so disturbed over the reports she "considered Flynn’s comments in the intercepted call to be 'highly significant' and 'potentially illegal,' according to an official familiar with her thinking, the Post article also reports.

    Update:
This sums it up pretty well.

Quite a problem for the White House with Flynn: Keep a Russian agent in charge of national security or fire him and he spills on everyone
    — Brandon Friedman (@BFriedmanDC) February 14, 2017

UPDATE 2: Look who opposed Yates' decision to tell the White House!

Comey, whose agents were conducting the actual investigation of Flynn, stood alone in opposing Yayes/Brennan/Clapper plan to tell WH.

Well looks like Omarosa has gotten a swollen head from all “her power”.
    ================================================

Omarosa threatens reporter: Trump officials have incriminating ‘dossiers’ on journalists

Omarosa Manigault, the former Apprentice star turned White House communications official threatened American Urban Radio Networks’ White House correspondent April Ryan last week insisting Donald Trump officials have “dossiers” of incriminating information on her and other journalists, the Washington Post reports.
    .....
Ryan said during the altercation,Manigault “stood right in my face like she was going to hit me.”
“I said, ‘You better back up,’” Ryan added. “She thought I would be bullied. I won’t be.”
She also reportedly told Ryan she was among several reporters the administration collected “dossiers” of information on.

Manigault has a history of threatening people—particularly those critical of the Trump administration. Discussing Trump critic Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) at Trump’s election night party in New York, Manigault told the Independent Journal Review, “it’s so great our enemies are making themselves clear so that when we get in to the White House, we know where we stand.”

“Let me just tell you, Mr. Trump has a long memory and we’re keeping a list,” she added.

Manigault made similar comments even before Trump’s election. In September, she bragged that, “every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump.”

”It’s everyone who’s ever doubted Donald, who ever disagreed, who ever challenged him,” Manigault added. “It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”

    Michael Flynn resigns

He leaves his post as Trump's National Security Adviser.

National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has resigned, a Trump administration official confirmed Monday evening.

Keith Kellogg, the chief of staff, will be the acting head of the National Security Council.

A number of President Donald Trump's top aides urged him to force Flynn's resignation, but Trump privately wavered, even as he criticized Flynn after news reports indicated Flynn wasn't honest about his communications with Russian officials.

He said the general was loyal to him during the campaign, and he appreciated his strength and intelligence.

Earlier it was reported that President Donald Trump's adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was involved in a search for candidates to replace Flynn, according to sources close to the administration.

The husband-and-wife team driving Trump's national security policy

Before they became a Trump administration power couple, Sebastian and Katharine Gorka were prolific collaborators on research about the threat of Islamist terrorism.

Business partners as well as published co-authors, the Gorkas made successful careers out of their shared passion. “Our pillow talk is the Islamic State and Al Qaeda,” Sebastian Gorka, now a senior White House aide, said during a talk in Florida last November.

At times it can even be difficult to tell which Gorka is doing the talking. Several passages of Sebastian’s 2007 dissertation, on the rise of radical Islam, appeared almost verbatim two years earlier in an article for the conservative journal Human Events. The byline over an online version of the article, “ccornell,” links to an author page for Katharine Cornell — the maiden name of Katharine Gorka.

The dissertation, written for Sebastian’s doctorate in political science from Corvinus University of Budapest, does not credit either a Katharine Cornell or Katharine Gorka in its endnotes.

“We write together all the time,” Gorka said during an hourlong conversation with POLITICO. He brushed off the overlapping passages as “probably something I dictated or that we came up with together.” Much of his writing and that of his wife, he explained, is the result of a “collaborative effort,” even if that’s not clear to readers. “She’s my wife and she’s my closest collaborator,” he said.

In the decade since earning his doctorate, Sebastian has vaulted into the heart of the American national-security apparatus. At the White House, Gorka — who was born in Britain and became a U.S. citizen in 2012 — is a deputy assistant to the president. He reports to strategist Steve Bannon and includes the Strategic Initiatives Group, Bannon’s in-house think tank, in his email signature.

House Democrats Demand Investigation of Trump's National Security Adviser

The House Democrats' letter to Chaffetz notes that Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the ranking Democrat on the committee, has repeatedly asked Chaffetz to investigate Flynn's contacts with the Russian government and put forward the case for an investigation:

.... It has now been reported that General Flynn took payments of an undisclosed amount to travel to Moscow to dine with Vladimir Putin and celebrate RT, which US intelligence officials warn is the "Kremlin's principal international propaganda outlet"; that he potentially failed to obtain the consent of Congress to receive those funds in violation of the Constitution; that he communicated repeatedly with Russian officials while that nation was engaged in an attack on our democracy and our presidential election; that he secretly discussed with the Russian ambassador, in possible violation of the Logan Act, sanctions imposed by President Obama in response to these Russian attacks; and that he may have lied about these discussions not only to the American people, but to his own White House colleagues, including the Vice President.

If you are not willing to initiate this investigation…then we ask that you not prevent us from calling up this matter at the next business meeting so we may request a vote on this and other proposals going forward on this matter.

We can now also see the outlines of another part of the story. It appears that repeated efforts were made to apprise President Trump or those around him of the situation with Michael Flynn. When those warnings were ignored, people in the national security and law enforcement apparatus went instead to the press to get the word out that way. Only now can we see some of the hidden actions which reveal the pattern and provide context to the leaks.

This is not some ill-considered discussion by Michael Flynn. The role of Russia in the 2016 election and the President's relationship to Russia has been the un-ignorable question hanging over President Trump for months. Flynn's resignation does not come close to resolving it. It is highly likely that the Flynn/Russia channel was authorized by the President himself. There's much more to come.

Donald Trump has just come up with a new way to make his failing administration even worse, and it’s going to make most Americans sick to their stomachs.

Trump is not only seeking to hire more horrible people to work for him, but what he wants these sought-after employees to do is even worse – he wants them to solely focus on his social media promotion. CNN’s Jim Acosta reported this horrifying new addition to the Trump administration on Twitter:

Donald Trump and his entire administration seem to be nothing more than Russian stooges. And no, this is not merely rumor; after all, even the intelligence community is so sure that the Kremlin has infiltrated Team Trump that they are withholding key intelligence from the White House. Now, it seems that things have gotten so hot that Trump’s loyal and treasured national security adviser, Retired General Michael Flynn, has resigned.

...This administration is clearly compromised by Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin. There needs to be a thorough vetting of everyone in the Trump White House, and if there is evidence of criminal activity of any kind, those people need to prosecuted – and yes, that includes the president, Donald Trump. Our very security and lives and the survival of the republic depends on it.
