Mitch McConnell met by nearly a thousand protesters in his home state.

Courtesy of WUKY:

Nearly a thousand people have crowded behind a chain link fence to try to catch Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's attention as he made his first stop on a tour of Kentucky during the congressional recess.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell fielded a series of heated questions during his first speech in a tour of Kentucky during the congressional recess.

McConnell did not answer questions about the deadly raid in Yemen or coal jobs continuing to disappear, and instead thanked the questioners for their "speeches."

One woman shouted, "if you answer that, I'll sit down and shut up like Elizabeth Warren." She was referencing the now-infamous event on the Senate floor earlier this month when McConnell ordered the Democratic senator from Massachusetts to sit down during the fight over Jeff Sessions' confirmation as attorney general.

The protesters on Tuesday chanted, "No ban, no wall, Mitch McConnell take our call," a reference to the senator's clogged voicemail system during the first month of Donald Trump's presidency.

This of course is only one example of the many protests and contentious town halls that are happening around the country.

The election of Donald Trump has inspired a kind of fervent activism unlike anything I have every seen before. And I love it!

And of course he hates it.
Nice try, but I think that will only make these people even more passionate.

And it is not only happening in public, behind the scenes there are e-mails being sent and phone call being made on an almost continuous basis to just about every Senatorial and Congressional office in the country.

In some cases they are even going old school.

Courtesy of Five Thirty Eight:

On Feb. 1, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Maine Sen. Susan Collins gave back-to-back speeches on the Senate floor stating their intention to vote against the confirmation of Betsy DeVos as secretary of education. This was a big deal: If one more Republican came out against Trump’s nominee, DeVos would be voted down, unless a Democrat also broke ranks. That’s when the faxes really started to pour into Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey’s Washington office. He’d already been averaging a few hundred a day ever since President Trump was inaugurated; that afternoon, the number shot up to more than 300 an hour.

Really? Faxes? I don't even have a fax machine anymore.

But you have to admit it is certainly hard to ignore 300 faxes coming into your office every hour.

That is the kind of pressure that changes votes.

Not surprising considering dictator trump lost the popular vote by 3 million and only won the Electoral College by 80,000 votes. That leaves a lot of “liberals” out there who are against the GOP “policies” or lies as I like to call them.

Actually you don’t need a fax machine, I can send faxes from my computer.

An America You Can Be Proud Of As Tens of Thousands Storm Town Halls to Demand Answers

Here's a round up of patriots of whom you can be proud, storming town halls to demand answers from Obamacare to Russia's influence over our election.

...Paid protester? Not so much. Try these are real people with real problems, and they aren’t buying the Republican lies about Obamacare or excuses for letting Russia undermine our country via the Republican President.

Republicans thought they could curl their lips at the people who pay their bills, but they are getting a lesson in accountability that has been a long time in coming. The smug contempt of assumed privilege isn’t disappearing just yet, but give it time.

American patriots are out in force, and they don’t show any signs of weakening their objections and protests.

The only real question left is why don’t Republicans care one whit about this country, the integrity of our elections, an aggressive and antagonistic foreign power interfering in our election, and Donald Trump’s clear connections to Russia. America first? Not by a long shot.

The narrative of angry Americans demanding answers from cowardly, dodging Republicans is sticking because with winning elections comes accountability, and governing is not something this modern day Republican Party does well.

How people in Kentucky can vote for this useless lump is beyond me. He does nothing for the people who vote for him. From day one he has been lining his own pockets. He KNEW about tRump and the Russians last year, yet refused to have hearings on it. Then his "wife" got a cushy job in this administration as payback no doubt. Time for new, fresh ideas in office. Get the old gop guys OUT.

By popular vote we should have a Democratic House of Representatives.

Seen this? by What Do I know blog today: http://whatdoino-steve.blogspot.ca

"A Mark Butler FB repost got me to a Slate article on something I'd never heard of in terms of gerrymandering. Since I got pretty involved in blogging the last Alaska redistricting process, I figure if I didn't know about this others don't either.

"The article talks about a challenge to the Wisconsin state redistricting process that successfully used this concept of "efficiency gap." The case has been appealed to the US Supreme Court, so it's something to pay close attention to."

GOP Lawmaker Ignores Her Own Advice About Engaging Millennials Through Town Halls

As chairwoman of the House GOP’s millennial task force, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) issued a report last week urging her Republican colleagues to hold town halls to engage and win over millennial voters.

But Stefanik isn’t taking her own advice.

The second-term Republican has no current plans to hold a town hall meeting in her district during this week’s so-called “district work period,” even after pushing out a 22-page report last week that strongly advises members to be accessible to millennials and other voters.

“Millennials are a generation that expects their government to be open and honest, even if the message they deliver isn’t what they want to hear,” Stefanik writes in the first section of the report.

She later names four “best practices” for engaging millennials: hold roundtables with them, establish a youth advisory group, use social media and hold town halls.

Stefanik notes that House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) held a town hall event at Georgetown University last year, and she advises House Republicans to organize similar events at local universities or high schools in their districts.

But Stefanik isn’t doing that. She was a no-show at events she was scheduled to attend once protesters showed up, according to local news coverage in her upstate New York district. Her critics charge that she’s going back on a campaign pledge of transparency by posting her schedule only after the days have come and gone.

And, I'm of the sound opinion that NONE of the protestors were paid to appear as the Republicans are indicating! They, as a group, will throw anything they can out there to obstruct the REAL truth and PURPOSE of things.

Hurrah for the Kentucky woman who told McConnell some of what he needs to hear. Personally I would never have thanked him for his years of service. He's spent that time raking in the dollars from the insurance industry, the coal and gas industries, and any other lobbying firms that would give him the money. He's never really represented the people of his state or the people of the country.

And, when Trump taps out "Sad!" at the end of his tweet, he's not indicating that he's feeling sad. That's simply how he describes the people who are protesting. Trump thinks protesters are pathetic and beneath the dignity of his attention; they (we) are all losers.

Trump and the GOP members of Congress do not care at all about the situations many of their constituents find themselves in. All they care about is who can give them the most money.

A Catholic high school in Louisiana has apologized “to anyone who was offended” after a racist essay about Black History Month went viral.

WBRZ reported that St. Michael the Archangel in Baton Rouge explained in a letter to parents that an essay making the rounds on the internet was “contrary to the teachings of the church.”

According to WBRZ, the essay was written by a white student who said she was “unpleased” by the Black History Month assignment.

“I’m not fully racist but I hate almost every black person,” the essay begins. “They think they run everything but in reality are an embarrassment to this country.”

The student goes on to justify slavery based on misconceptions about the Bible.

“Think about it though,” she writes. “None of the apostles were different ethics [sic]. They were all white. There was [sic] no black nor Hispanic [sic] mentioned really back when Jesus time was. All the stories we hear in the Bible are about like mainly white people. So since God knows everything that is going to happen than [sic] he would have done something about that.”

The student explains that she cannot support Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s message about equality because black people make her “petrified to leave my house.”

“But we are supposed to give them a month right?” the essay continues. “When they cannot even wear pants that fit them? When they shoot cops for protecting people?”

“Sad to say this but maybe things would be better if they would have stayed slaves,” the student concludes. “I should not have to be scared for my life when I see them in my sight.”

The Movement Resisting Donald Trump Has A Name: The (Local) Democratic Party
While outside groups are getting the attention, local Democratic parties nationwide are seeing a surge of interest.

...All across the country, party meetings that had once been sleepy affairs, dominated by Robert’s Rules of Order and a handful of graying activists, have become standing room only. The overflowing crowds have sent stunned party regulars scrambling to find new venues, while the surge in interest, and the coinciding fundraising boost, is enabling local chapters to hire staff and build infrastructure in previously unthinkable ways. On the national level, Democratic politicians have been rushing to respond to the sudden outpouring.

“I’m as busy this year as I was at any time last year in the heat of a huge election,” said Mark Fraley, chairman of the Monroe County Democratic Party in Indiana.

Fraley said he received 65 emails in a single weekend from people requesting to become precinct chairs, a thankless job that normally requires begging and pleading to get someone to fill. The county party has restructured and added five deputy chairs to channel all the energy, and created six new committees.

“What’s very different is that it’s made the party younger. Young people never really wanted to have as much of a meaningful part in the Democratic Party infrastructure. Now that doesn’t seem true anymore,” he said.

The resistance to President Donald Trump has taken a variety of forms, all of them well chronicled by the media. The Women’s March, which saw some 5 million people take to the streets in a single day, helped fuel the growth of Indivisible chapters around the country, and has itself continued organizing meetings and protests since. The groups Swing Left, Flippable and The Sister District Project are routing people to swing districts where they can be most effective, and groups are forming to challenge Democrats in primaries. Amid it all, observers and participants alike have wondered what the name is for this nascent movement. The Resistance? The Opposition?

But if the swelling ranks of county-level meetings are an indication of things to come, the grassroots movement underway already has a name. It’s called the Democratic Party.

Oklahoma releases emails between new EPA head and energy firms

Emails released by the Oklahoma attorney general’s office show a cozy relationship between energy companies and Scott Pruitt, who was the state’s top prosecutor before being sworn in last week as the new chief U.S. environmental regulator, a media watchdog group said on Wednesday.

.... The attorney general’s office released more than 7,500 pages of emails late on Tuesday, holding back an unknown number of documents it called exempted or privileged. Oklahoma Judge Aletia Timmons is reviewing those documents, but there is no set time for when or if they would be released.

Among the documents released were communications between Devon Energy and Pruitt’s office that suggest the company gave the Oklahoma officials language on limits on methane emissions at oil and gas operations. Pruitt’s office then used this language in suing the EPA over the regulations, the documents suggest. (http://bit.ly/2lFEymC)

Nick Surgey, a research director at the Center for Media and Democracy, called the document release a “major breakthrough” that revealed a close and friendly relationship between Pruitt’s office and the oil and gas industry, with frequent meetings, calls, and dinners.

The center said before the release of the emails that Pruitt’s office had violated Oklahoma’s Open Records Act by delaying their issuance.

Critics of Pruitt’s nomination to head the EPA were concerned over his record on the environment – he sued the agency more than a dozen times on behalf of his oil-producing state and has doubted the science of climate change – and Democrats in the Senate held an all night debate last week trying to stop his confirmation vote until the emails were released. He was confirmed on Friday with two Democrats from energy-producing states voting for him.

A spokesman at the Oklahoma attorney general’s office would not say how many documents were sent to the judge for review or how it decided which ones to fully release. The office went “above and beyond” what is required under the Open Records Act by producing records that would typically be considered ones outside the law’s scope, the office said in a release.

Another Democrat Hands Over the Reins to Republicans

...Why? With Republicans in control of everything, isn't this precisely the time when Democrats should want to retain as much power as they can muster for as long as they can? Ravel's resignation will break the FEC's frequent deadlocks, but it will break them by almost certainly giving Republicans total control over election policy. This is precisely the thing that Ravel has been fighting for the past three years.

I don't get it. What am I missing here?

She was on Rachel last night and I was confused. Revel (I think that's the spelling) said her leaving wouldn't really make a difference. Rachel said something about it being a tradition that Senate Dems would pick her replacement, although this was not a rule/law and Trump could just go ahead and appoint who he wanted. Then the guest said that some of the others in the FCC actually want to become a part of the Trump admin, so Trump might end up with four seats to fill. I guess this meant that he could just choose them all and could choose four GOP, and the Senators, both Dem and GOP, wouldn't choose the replacements, so Trump could choose the GOP he might prefer over who the GOP Sens would pick. And she said something, too, about Trump maybe moving someone else who's already there into her seat and then filling that person's seat with a new person. I didn't know what difference it made. I assumed it meant that she held some higher position than others. All around it was, for me, a head-scratching segment. I haven't read the MJ yet. Maybe that will clarify some things for me.

So, technically Ravel's (sorry, had the spelling wrong before) right when she says that her leaving won't make a difference. But she was chairwoman and Trump can slide a GOP into her spot. He also doesn't have to go along with the tradition of accepting the Dems' own recs for their slots. He can appoint his own Dems, very conservative ones. This article also says he could try appointing an Independent who he favors.

A Trump Rebellion Is Reported to be Brewing Among The Intelligence Community

"Rebellion is brewing in Washington," Schindler warns of the spy war on the Trump administration. Contrary to Trump's claims that this is a partisan war, "Behind closed doors, plenty of American intelligence experts believe that President Trump is the pawn of the Kremlin..."

...“The Russia angle is most troubling to the IC. Behind closed doors, plenty of American intelligence experts believe that President Trump is the pawn of the Kremlin, wittingly or not, and assess that it’s only a matter of time before unseemly Moscow ties are exposed and the White House enters unsurvivable political crisis,” Schindler writes.

“Rebellion is brewing in Washington. The resignation of the CIA’s spokesman, a career intelligence analyst, is a sign of how fragile IC morale has gotten under the new administration.”

Schindler seems to be referring to former intelligence analyst and National Security Council spokesman Edward Price, a man who has worked in the Central Intelligence Agency for more than a decade under both George W. Bush and Barack Obama, who quit the agency because of Donald Trump. This troubles people who aren’t knee-jerk Trump defenders, because a careerist is not a partisan position. It would be a relief if this were a partisan issue, but instead, it is a deeply threatening issue that has already undermined our democracy and made us a laughing stock around the globe.

“If President Trump keeps upping the ante in his war on the spies, he can expect more damaging leaks to reach the media,” Schindler writes menacingly. “Leaks happen in every administration, and Nixon’s ignominious fall ought to serve as a cautionary tale to any president who thinks he can find the right ‘plumbers’ to fix the leaky faucet.”

Appearing on MSNBC Tuesday night, a psychologist warned that fellow doctors have a responsibility to point out that President Donald Trump exhibits clear signs of mental illness and shouldn’t be trusted with the nuclear codes.

Speaking with host Lawrence O’Donnell, Dr. John Gartner claimed, Trump is a “paranoid, psychopathic, narcissist who is divorced from reality” who will put the nation at risk.

“If we could construct a psychiatric Frankenstein monster, we could not create a leader more dangerously mentally ill than Donald Trump,” Gartner began. “He is a paranoid, psychopathic, narcissist who is divorced from reality and lashes out impulsively at his imagined enemies. And this is someone, as you said, who is handling the nuclear codes.”

It has long been a policy within the psychiatric community to not diagnose individuals without personally interviewing them, but Gartner — who works as a therapist in Baltimore and New York City — warned that, in the case of Trump, that should be set aside because there is ample evidence based on Trump’s public utterances.

“I would argue to my colleagues that those who don’t speak out are being unethical,” he stated. “If we have some knowledge and understanding about the unique danger that Donald Trump presents through our psychiatric training and don’t say something about it, history is not going to judge us kindly.”

Trump Administration Set To Rescind Protections For Transgender Students

Fight Erupts in Trump Administration Over Transgender Students’ Rights

A fight over an order that would rescind protections for transgender students in public schools has erupted inside the Trump administration, pitting Attorney General Jeff Sessions against the secretary of education, Betsy DeVos.

Ms. DeVos initially resisted signing off on the order and told President Trump that she was uncomfortable with it, according to three Republicans with direct knowledge of the internal discussions. The draft order would reverse the directives put in place last year by the Obama administration to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms of their choice.

Mr. Sessions, who strongly opposes expanding gay, lesbian and transgender rights, fought Ms. DeVos on the issue and pressed her to relent because he could not go forward without her consent. The order must come from the Justice and Education Departments.

Mr. Trump sided with his attorney general, these Republicans said, telling Ms. DeVos in a meeting in the Oval Office on Tuesday that he wanted her to drop her objections. And Ms. DeVos, faced with the choice of resigning or defying the president, has agreed to go along.

The White House Demands That You Applaud Trump For Taking Away Your Health Care

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told the American people that they should be applauding President Trump for taking away their health care and replacing it with nothing.

During his daily briefing with reporters, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said, “I think the idea that we have to remember is that the American people got sold the Affordable Care Act. It’s neither affordable nor accessible. They’re losing their coverage and premiums are spiking, and so if people are truly worried about losing their coverage, they should be applauding the President’s action for wanting to make sure that we put a system in place that does what they were promised a while back, and that’s what I think has been missing from this dialogue.”

Spicer also claimed that there is a blurring of the facts and that some of the people protesting weren’t “on Obamacare.” They are on Medicare, Medicaid, or employer-based health coverage.

JHC are Republicans nuts! They think the majority of Americans believe them with regard to The Affordable Care Act?

It's them who are the fucking idiots! Get a grip Republicans! You guys are going DOWN in the next election! Count on it!

Any honorable representative would be proud to face their constituents and defend their actions, IF they believe that what they are doing is the correct thing to do. These cowards are hiding, because they are ashamed of the screwing they KNOW ordinary people are about to get. Wait until Lyin' Ryan starts on Social Security privatization. Then the do-do will hit the fan.

If they are so convinced they are right, show us the plan!!

They don't have a plan and now they are lying more with the "paid protesters" crap.

Well let them keep thinking that, they are only fooling themselves and what a surprise it will be in 2018.

As for Spicy Boy, he has lied so often that he is no longer credible, like his boss.

My coward of a rep held a 'phone town hall' a week or so back. I got a call about it the afternoon before, and was not available when it happened. Nor is there any record of it being held on his web site. He does NOT hold live events here in his GOP hometown. There are too many of us ready to counter his lies, so he stays in the boondocks where they buy every word.

America Is Getting Friendlier to Immigrants, but Republicans Aren't

...This is no brief spasm. The country as a whole may be getting friendlier to immigration, but Republicans decidedly aren't. If Democrats ever want to pass some kind of comprehensive immigration reform, they're going to have to figure out some way to get Republican votes for it, but that's not going to happen as long as the entire GOP—not just diehard Trump fans—is dead set against it.

This Isn’t Just Trump. This Is Who The Republicans Are.

So far President Trump has signed very few bills. One lets coal companies dump waste into streams. The other lets oil companies bribe foreign dictators in secret. And he is moving to block a Labor Department "fiduciary rule" that requires financial advisors to act in the best interests of their clients when advising on retirement accounts.

Here's the thing: this isn't just Trump doing this. The Republican House and Senate passed those two bills, and the Republicans have been fighting that fiduciary rule tooth and nail.

It's not just Trump, Republicans as a party are using Trump to engage in a general assault on protections from corruption, pollution, corporate fraud and financial scams.

    This is who they are.

"We Just Need A President To Sign This Stuff"

This is not just Trump. What we are seeing happening to our government is the end result of a decades-long effort by the corporate-and-billionaire-funded "conservative movement" to capture the Republican party, and through them to capture the country -- for profit. And here we are.

Are Republicans dismayed that they have put a loathsome, deranged, misogynistic, racist, psychopathic, uninformed, self-promoting, corrupt, insulting, genital-grabbing, conspiracy-theorist, Jew-baiting, narcissistic, country-destroying, Putin-loving, generally disgusting, fascist, loofa-faced sh*t-gibbon into power in our White House?

No, they are not. They like it that he is there.

Grover Norquist, one of the key leaders and strategists of the conservative movement, worded it clearly and succinctly, "We just need a President to sign this stuff." "Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become President of the United States."

The gop does not want to elect an intelligent president. That is for democratic voters to do, to clean up the mess their brain dead fools do. They covered up for Saint Ronnie when he had Alzheimers, now they are covering up for the mentally ill tRump.

OFF-TOPIC COMMENT: At CPAC on Saturday is a panel discussion title something like "Heaven has a wall, why can't the US?"

    http://www.rawstory.com/2017/02/conservative-cpac-gathering-gets-hilariously-mocked-for-heaven-has-a-wall-why-cant-us-panel/?comments=disqus

    Much hilarity has ensued.

CPAC has really gone downhill since they stopped inviting Sarah . . . don't you think?

Meanwhile, at the Iron Dog, Palin and Quam have checked in at Nome and are hanging in there at 13th place. Dumbkota, however, is content so sit home in Wasilla and take the kid to Lowe's.

None of this is going to change the thinking, or votes of these Republicans. It might change the vote in the mid term elections by the people. One can only hope the vote might be as in 2010 and leave Trump with a Democratic majority in Congress!!

Trump and the rest of them are trying hard to delegitimize the crowd, insisting that they're astro turf tea party crowds shipped in.....

BUT THEY'RE ALL RUNNING LIKE FRIGHTENED RABBITS FROM THEM.

McConnell especially because he deserves special derision.

I dunno where the Fright-wing got the idea that Democrats won't get down in the dirt with them. Those Republicans haven't seen anything yet, wait until summer- their hair will be permanently blown back.

You rile up the Right-wing and you know those fucking idiots will immediately threaten you with their pet guns because they know they'll lose any battle of wits. You rile up a Democrat and there's no telling what might happen to you.... as these chickenshit Republican politicians are about to find out.

They can run but they can't hide. We know where they live.

Really? Faxes? I don't even have a fax machine anymore.

You don't need a fax machine to send a fax. Senators and Congressmen still use fax machines, just as some military departments still use IBM 5081 punch cards and their related machinery, i.e. card sorters, card readers, etc.

    https://freefaxes.com/

Free Faxes is technically not free but it's not expensive and a solution to the problem "I don't have a fax machine."

Check it out! Flood your senators and congressman with faxes!

Do you realize it's the taxpayers who pay for his/Congress's health care?

WE PAY FOR THEM TO HAVE HEALTH CARE.

And they won't allow single-payer health care for US. They wouldn't expand the ACA, or improve it.

If WE can't have a taxpayer supported health care program that works for the citizens who pay for it, then those assholes should pay their own way. They can afford it, I cannot.

  33. Darrell Issa made the news for actually meeting with protesters outside his office for an informal Town Hall. Yes, Darrell Issa talking to constituents made the news.

Then he made it again later that night when he ditched a town hall meeting. Said he had a previous commitment to visit a homeless shelter. Yeah, right.

Issa is a turd and he *will* be replaced in 2018. His opponent lost by a hair. This time Issa will be out on his ear. He is a major piece of shit and his former supporters are starting to turn on him.

The Democrats are not being let off either. Both of the locals had very crowded and spirited town halls. People are angry and demanding they grow a pair and do MORE. They consider them weak and not listening to the people or doing enough to fight the Republicans. All true.

So the Democrats are as much in the hot seat as the Republicans.

So far it is a minor and polite pre-"revolution." But both parties better be very careful.

People are pissed and it isn't going to take much to push them into full on revolt.
